The League of Justification
« on: April 02, 2013, 03:57:58 PM »
Over HERE Interested is recruiting for a group superhero game called "Heroes of the New World", which you're encouraged to check out. The character creation system he's using is ingenious, in my opinion. I quote here:

Click the Random Page Button three times. Those Super Powers are your powers. .... I will allow most powers, as long as they are not overly strong. As for what's Overly strong .. . no omnipotents or omniscients. Or even omnipresents.

http://powerlisting.wikia.com/wiki/Superpower_Wiki

So what powers are yours?

This seems like a fun creative exercise to me. Given three completely random superpowers, what kind of cohesive character can you create? I expect some of the combinations to be quite silly, but that seems to me to be part of the fun. Not everyone is Justice League material; some heroes would barely make B-List guest stars on The Tick.

So this thread is for people who'd like to play around with making characters according to this system, but who don't have the time or inclination to join Interested's game. This is just for fun.

I'm going to add my own rules to this. Of course, nobody's going to arrest you if you break them.

1) You must 'roll' three times. Use the "Random Page" button on that site.
2) From each page you must pick at least one power, or aspect of power. You don't need to use everything on the page; in fact, that's probably a bad idea.
3) You must give your hero an appropriate comic book name.

Anything else is up to you. Origin story, secret identity, battle cry, modus operandi, costume, whatever. Supervillians, sidekicks, etc. are all fair game. The goal here isn't to come up with the most powerful combination, it's to happen upon interesting characters by sheer synchronicity.

So Roll -- and then Justify!

Here's my first go. Remember, no re-rolling to get better results.

http://powerlisting.wikia.com/wiki/Neurocognitive_Deficit
http://powerlisting.wikia.com/wiki/Speed_Theft
http://powerlisting.wikia.com/wiki/Memory_Erasure

Holy cow. That's actually coherent. So we've got the ability to shut down people's brains, slow them down, and erase their memories.

Clearly what we have here is:

The Neuralyzer!
Not a front-line hero by any means, though he has been deployed into combat in the past, The Neuralyzer is still a valued member of League. It's his job to wade into the aftermath of battle, round up the eyewitnesses, and use his prodigious mental powers to make sure there is no record of exactly who caused all of the property damage. It is estimated that The Neuralyzer has saved the League over 47 million dollars in potential lawsuits just last year alone.

Ok, me next.

http://powerlisting.wikia.com/wiki/Chronokinetic_Combat
http://powerlisting.wikia.com/wiki/Primordial_Dragon_Physiology - has to be my new all time favorite super power.
http://powerlisting.wikia.com/wiki/Wood_Mimicry

I think here I have the making of a super villain, the kind you think is dead, but comes back even stronger than before and kills off several of the main cast members.

The Dragon!
A bane unto the world and to all those who exist in it. From world domination, to simple street crime, The Dragon controls it all. Arch nemesis to all super heroes, heroines and even other villains. He sits at the head of a large criminal empire that has in the past, toppled governments, created war, turned good people into monsters and has corrupted the the same heroes who fought against him, to fight for him. He is suave, a gentleman, cruel and a master liar.

I liked Interested's RP, but I want to see what else  I would get here! <3

Let's see, I got:
http://powerlisting.wikia.com/wiki/Enhanced_Investigation
http://powerlisting.wikia.com/wiki/Wallcrawling
http://powerlisting.wikia.com/wiki/Druidic_Magic

Hell. I'm like if Spider Man and Batman had a baby and raised it to be a D&D Druid.

(Had to give thsi some thought)...Okay, so my persona would be....

Tracker
Nothing escapes the Tracker. His ability to seemingly climb anywhere, make lightning deductions about mysteries and his prey, and his strong magical abilities make him a shoo-in as a healer/doctor. His ability to find just about anything makes him invaluable in tracking down villains.

(( This is the actual "Random Power page link"  http://powerlisting.wikia.com/wiki/Special:Random ))

Evil has come...

Powers:
  • Hollow Skeleton - bones are hollow, making them lighter, faster and more agile than they appear.
  • Mathematical Intuition - Users of this ability have intuitive understanding about math and capability to perceive and comprehend the fundamentals of probability. In any given situation, the user could calculate the accelerated probability and apply it in a predicament. Users of this ability are also able determine the motion of a projectile through the work of physics.
  • Identity Dominance - The ability to have total control over any living being who knows the user's true name/identity.
Lady Domino
She is an alien being that came to this world to play with the hearts and minds of mankind.

Her alien physiology gives her extreme agility and light weight bone structure.

In her home world science, math, and education are valued above all else. This has given her a mathematical intuition that is unheard of by human standards. It allows her to calculate all probabilities before they occur and she can use this to manipulate the outcomes of almost any situation.

However, her most fearsome power was extracted from the manipulation of magic. On the discovery of a strange magical creature, her colleagues thought it was worthless (their value of science over magic blinded them to the possibilities.) Domino saw the possibilities, using science she extracted the essence of magic and forced the creature to pass it's powers onto her. Now fused with this magic energy she has the power to simply tell you her name and take you under her absolute control. Only an indomitable will or the wiping of your memory can help you.

She has come to Earth, now fear and bow before the might of Lady Domino!

... Because it's so much fun. I made a 2nd character

Powers:
  • Multi Strike - can generate multiple attacks in a single instant or repeatedly numerous times and the enemy has no way of defending against it
  • Weapon Physiology - can become any kind of weapon the user chooses, The user can transform any part of their body into a weapon to achieve a offensive or defensive mode. The user can even transform into a full weapon and let others with weapon proficiencies wield user in battle.
  • Spring Form - can transform completely or partially into springs, aiding their jumping capabilities and granting ability to absorb attacks.
Rainbow Six (Sometimes just called "Six")

Six was born, Svetlana Oleskya. She was raised until the age of ten in the Ukraine but her family emigrated to the USA. While working as a teenager as a cleaner in the Baxter Building (Where the Fantastic Four make their home.) She was exposed to a dose of radiation and temporarily absorbed the powers of Reed Richards, "The Elastic Man."  Reed was able to reverse the damage caused by the radiation and he thought he had removed all the effects.

A few days later, Svetlana started to develop odd symptoms. At first her fingers would flatten paper thin. She was frightened but too scared to return to Reed she made peace with the fact that she was going to die from her exposure. Not wanting her family to see the horrific effects it was having on her she ran away from home.

After months on the streets of the city she had repeated episodes and painful body changes. Then she found herself springing up high when she ran from a group of gangers. It wasn't just a jump but her feet actually turned to springs and allowed her to jump incredibly high.

Then in another instance a thug tried to mug her and her hand turned into a hammer as she struck him with it. She ran away with the help of her spring feet.

Before long she was gaining mental control over the abilities and turning her hands into all kinds of ancient weapons then soon she started to begin to emulate basic revolvers. It's possible that she'll be able to someday emulate fully automatic weapons or even missile launchers but for now it's easiest to make ancient weapons.

Another side benefit is that she can on occasion move her hands with lightning speed, making several attacks almost instantaneously.

On the streets she started calling herself "Six" because she thought it made her sound tougher. However, the runaways she hung around with called her "Rainbow Six" because of her multicolored hair.

http://powerlisting.wikia.com/wiki/Expanding_Energy_Bolts

and....the last and creepiest one that is my favorite!

http://powerlisting.wikia.com/wiki/Osteokinetic_Creature_Creation

....but I have no clue how to combine that up into a coherent hero.

Maybe a space necromancer of some sort?

I think that's a great idea.

He(or she) wields Stellar Magic and the power to bring to life bone creatures! And Expanding Energy Bolts are just some sort of DNA ability to shoot magic missiles. hehe

Very cool works, everyone. (And special kudos for finding pictures to match, Moraline.)

Have to try another one now...

http://powerlisting.wikia.com/wiki/Science_Combat
http://powerlisting.wikia.com/wiki/Mysticism
http://powerlisting.wikia.com/wiki/Twilight_Infusion

YinYang
Zheng Wei and his twin sister Zheng Mei grew up as privileged children in the city of Shenzen, China. Mei was a bona fide engineering genius who transformed the family basement into her personal workshop, while Wei found himself drawn more to the study of the ancient Taoist mysticism. Each year, on New Year's Day, they would meet, drink tea, and debate philosophy until the sun rose the next morning.

One year, when they were both only twenty years old, the close of their annual celebration was disrupted when the sun failed to rise fully above the horizon. A demon prince had arisen, and threatened to hold the sun hostage unless its evil demands were met. Armed with Mei's prototype weapons and Wei's sense of self-righteousness the twins confronted the demon, only to be instantly blasted into dust by his Twilight Energies.

Incredibly, the dust from the two siblings reformed into a single combined entity, fusing their minds and personalities. This combined form attacked the demon and slew it, freeing the sun to rise. The hermaphroditic being, now known as YinYang, pledged theirself to defending their home city against all threats, whether scientific or magical, using the combined talents of the two souls within and the Twilight Energies absorbed from their foe.

Now this has been a lot of fun. Great thread! Here's the most interesting combo that popped up for me  8-)

I was a bit concerned about this one. Chastity and virginity are often used and considered to be interchangeable, and the whole concept of power through virginity has the potential to be problematic and offensive. Virginity is also a social construct that doesn't have a clear definition anyways, so I decided to define chastity as abstinence from sexual or erotic activities and illicit substances such as alcohol or illicit drugs. In other words, so long as the character remains chaste they find themselves empowered by if. If they engage in anything "unchaste" they'll find themselves depowered. I think it would suck to have the character permanently lose power because they had sex or had a beer or something, so I decided the depowerment is temporary. If they resume and dedicate themselves to their chastity, they'll find themselves empowered again. Of course, I ran into the issue of what exactly is being empowered or depowered? Luckily, my next refresh answered that!

Now this one is just too fun. There are so many possibilities on how to portray it I’m having trouble deciding. I think I’d definitely have the character be a doodler or painter or comic artist. The visual aspect of it would be neat. The application of the power I’m most endeared by is creating alternative universes or entirely new dimensions through art. There’s some sweet symbolism in that. After all, artists are often considered the god of their work and this makes it literal. In regards to how this functions wit Chastity Empowerment, I would say that the character’s ability to have their art be “enchanted” would hinge on them being chaste. If they’re unchaste their art will just be regular art, but if they’re in a period of chastity than they can create new realities or dimensions through their artwork.

Having this one pop up as the third power was a stroke of sheer luck and cemented this combo as my favorite. The character having the ability to induce chastity in those around them safeguards the artist’s own chastity to a certain degree. Though, I’m not exactly sure how Chastity Inducement would work. It could be a form of mental/emotional domination that influences others to refrain from sexual activity or alcoholic/drug consumption. There’s a lot of ways it could work. Just from being in the artist’s general vicinity, through touch, or from the artist concentrating on a nearby specific person and inducing chastity in them. Perhaps it affects other characters as a sort of temporary, but strong internal epiphany. I’d have to give this one some more thought.

I only have a general character idea for now, no superhero name or backstory yet, but I hope it’s still okay that I posted my musings. A name seems like it’d be pretty tricky to come up with. My first thought was something about virgo or kanya, though I think it’d want to stay away from any virgin associations. I was thinking about depriving the name from a saint or mythological figure regarded for their self-imposed chastity or something, but it is something I’d have to do some more research on. Also, I think I’d probably make the character male. From what I’ve seen chastity as a source of power is usually attached to a female character, so seeing a male character portrayed as empowered by his chastity would be something new.

I think I'll probably be back later to post up the other interesting combos I got, and of course to check out any new characters that others come up with.

Invulnerability -- Unable to be physically harmed.  Nice.
Alternate Self-Absorption -- Can absorb the existence and powers of other versions of one's self, from alternate timelines or worlds.
Mind Control -- A la Professor X of the X-Men.

This is a crazy-powerful hero.  A mind-master who is immune to physical attacks and can multiply his power by defeating his alternates like Jet Li in The One?  Then again, this sounds more like a solo villain...heroes this powerful pretty much run the table, rendering problems in a plot moot.  It would take a pretty strong team of superheroes to take this guy down.

Gots ta roll another...too much fun...

Devic Phsyiology -- That's right.  She's an angelImmortalDemigodlike sixth sense.  Sensing the forces of the universeSupernatural physical strength.  Can generate and manipulate massive energies.  Shapeshifting.  Need I roll more?  Yes...

Divine Ingestion -- Now this is getting just ridiculous.  She's also a god-eater...who absorbs the ingested's powers. ^----above to the nth power!!!

Energy Blasts -- Overkill?  Now this angelic, god-eating annihilator can release galaxy-destroying emissions of her self-generated universal energies.

Kaeda Kaer, First Order Archangel, Universe of Secra

Okay, the first character I made...I said he needed a superhero team to combat?  I take that back.  This angel will pwn anybody, hands down.  Game over, dude.

Here's another run at the random grab bag:

http://powerlisting.wikia.com/wiki/Manifested_Attacks
http://powerlisting.wikia.com/wiki/Power_Activation
http://powerlisting.wikia.com/wiki/Air_Manipulation

Hmmm....

Zephyr

In a post-apocalyptic future, the man known as Zephyr roams the wastelands. He is an enigmatic figure, an elderly man dressed in sky-blue rags, his skin chapped by the weather and his eyes grown milky white from exposure to the radiation of the war-torn lands. It is said that he can command the winds; at the crook of his finger the gentlest breeze can transform into a slicing sword of solid air, eviscerating any who are foolish enough to attack him. Only in an airtight room can he be rendered powerless. Zephyr travels from outpost to outpost seeking others like himself with latent mutant abilities. Those he judges worthy are uplifted, their own powers unlocked, and are made to swear allegiance to him and his growing army. Those who are unworthy seldom survive the encounter. Zephyr's ultimate goals are unknown, but he has attracted the attention of many powerful warlords who fear his growing power base.

Roll 1

http://powerlisting.wikia.com/wiki/Fatigue_Manipulation

http://powerlisting.wikia.com/wiki/Nature_Embodiment  Nature communication and animal manipulation

http://powerlisting.wikia.com/wiki/Dimensional_Awareness

Pathfinder

I think this name would fit the character, I mean with the abilities that I rolled it seems legit.  With the fatigue ability he/she could remove the need for sleep or rest during travel and it would be a non violent way of taking out enemies.

Roll 2

http://powerlisting.wikia.com/wiki/Sky_Father_Physiology

So, I guess Odin is out of the question so... Hmm.  I think I'll call him Belzec.  He'd be a neutral party as his abilities are kinda out there.

Some of these are more challenging than others...

http://powerlisting.wikia.com/wiki/Perfection
"The wielder of this form can accomplish anything without limits. Generally they are omnipotent and have a fundamental role in their universe."

http://powerlisting.wikia.com/wiki/Balance
"This ability allows the user to be in balance with all forces of universe itself and transcendent areas or location and control to its will. This ability grants infinite power and can adapt to any thing."

http://powerlisting.wikia.com/wiki/Adhesive_Secretion
"User is able to secrete adhesive substances from their body, possibly from skin, saliva, or some other way."

Duc-Ta-Pe
A power older than the cosmos. An entity worshiped by vast multitudes through infinite names, none knowing Its true and perfect nature. A force which literally holds the Multiverse together, without whom all would dissolve into chaos. In the beginning Duc-Ta-Pe brought together the shards of the previous shattered infinite dimensions and bound them together through the force of Its all-powerful Will. Some maintain that Duc-Ta-Pe has both a Light Side and a Dark Side, others maintain that this is only a construct we impost on the Perfect Being in an attempt to understand It more fully. A foolish task, for the mysteries of Duc-Ta-Pe will never be comprehended by the mind of mortal man. It is, and always will be, Perfect.

:o  I LOVE this game!!  I remember the first time I did this game (it was only one ability though).  I was able to control magma.  Anyway, let's see what powers I have:

Scale Manifestation

Sleep Manipulation

Animation

Okay, this is rather interesting.  Let me see what I can do with this....................

Name:  Tobias Weatherfield
Hero Name:  Nightmare

Tobias lives during the day as a therapist, secretly using his abilities to hypnotically place his patients to sleep while he soothes their minds with happy dreams.  During the night, he becomes Nightmare, a cloaked demon of justice.  Using his armored body as a shield, he animated nonliving targets such as cars, even the guns of bad guys, and uses that to stop crime.  Because of his armored hide, he is hard to kill and his ability to control non-living targets makes him difficult to pin down.  Luckily, he cane completely retract every trace of his scales when he is at work, otherwise, he cannot work in the day safely anymore.

So, how does he manage to do this all?  Because he can manulate sleep, he can work for 23 hours a day after making it so that one hour of sleep is equal to 8 full hours.  Does this mean he is unstoppable?  No, for he is a mild mannered hero and will always people the benifit of the doubt.
