The Kingdom of Shadows
« on: March 05, 2013, 04:06:02 PM »
The Knight quickly rushed to the Royal Chambers to see what the Princess was in aid for. The Knight was young and still a rookie but well trained and strong, he was twenty years old, he had short black hair, dark brown as, no facial hair, didn't show much muscle and was a bit on the scrawny side and was wearing his armor, past by his family through many generations proving great use each time worn. He carried his sword made by his great grandfather and was said to be made of the strongest of steel. The young knight finally arrived to the Chambers
"My Princess, you requested for my assistance" He said bowing to his feet in front the princess.

The Princess stood, looking at the young knight before her.  Her long blonde hair falling around her shoulders as she walked gracefully forward.
The deep blue of her dress matching perfectly the colour of her eyes, eyes that were at once enticing but strangely cold.

"Father tells me that you are one of his best men, well of course he means that was not sent to deal with the wyvern infestation of his favorite hunting wood" the Princess said as she circled the knight, so that she had seen him from all sides.

"i have need of a knight to escort me to the village of Dunholm, are you familiar with it, I would hate to be in the hands of a knight that delivers me to my fathers enemies because he has no sense of direction".

Everything about the Princess' demeanour screamed inpatience borne out of a life of being totally spoilt and pampered.

"Well do I have to wait until the hunting oarty returns for a knight that moves faster than a rock"

"No need to wait my lady, I would be honored to escort you to the village of Dunholm, I can quite familiar with it, I have traveled their many times on my own when I was younger, you will be in safe hands"
Although he said the he was thinking of something completely different "Spoiled little brat, I ought to throw you in the serpent river, and let the lake beasts have at you" he thought in the back of his mind

Ten minutes later, the Princess and her maid arrive at the stables, where jet black stallion and a palamino pony waited.  The stallion saddled for side saddle and the pony with a standard saddle.

"Come on, if we are to be there and back before dark we must hurry" the Princess says to the knight and maid, as the stable boy assists her into the saddle and she kicks the mighty stallion into a slow walk.

The maid's pony having to trot faster to keep up with stallion, but both are heading towards the postern gate of the castle and the road out of town.

"Yes mistress as you wish." The young knight said, saying good bye to the stable boy and following the two on foot, every time he would try to mount a horse, the horse would become startled a go into a panic, which he knew why. He kept his distance from the horses but did his best to remain close to the princess and her maid, he kept out his sword just in case of any sort of surprise attack.

As the Princess and her maid passed out of the castle and into the town, the vast majority of the population bowed as they went by.  However they were being watched.

Several cloaked bodies were shadowing their movement, as they past through the crowded village.  When they reached the old slave market, the trap snapped shut.

Four large figures in dark blue or black cloaks rushed from the press and head for the two women.

The maid screamed, and the Princess drove her horse at the nearest attacker.

The stallion reared, frightened by something unseen.  The Princess, despite her skills as a horsewoman was unable to stay seated in her unconvential saddle.

The young knight had to act fast, he quickly ran toward one of the attacker with his sword, and quickly swung it toward their head but unfortunately missed.
He looked around seeing the other three knowing this fight would be to risky for the maid and princess and quickly reached down his armor pulling out what looked like small white balls
"Both of you, hold your breath!" He shouted
After that he through the balls to the ground causing them to explode into a giant mist of white smoke which clouded their sight a bit, the knight did his best to guide the maid and princess out of the smoke away from their attackers

The maid had jabbed one of the attackers in the stomach with a short staff.

The two women were guided away from this attack by the young knight.

Not that the Princess showed any gratitude, "where were you when we were attacked" she haughtily asked, completely ignoring the fact that it was her that gone on ahead, rather than wait.  It was her that had been on horseback, while the knight was on foot.

"Who were those men, your Majesty?" the maid asked.

A question that the Princess could not answer.  The two women looked toward the knight to see if he had an answer.

"Those attackers did look somewhat familiar to me, but unfortunately i can not but my finger on it" the knight said sadly "And your majesty, with all due respect, you did go ahead of me instead of waiting, please for your own safety stay close by me, you shouldn't be so rash" The young knight said nervously, knowing the princess would scold him or give him some what of a punishment

"How dare you blame me for your failings, my Father will hear of your inefficiency believe that" said the Princess but she moved closer to the knight.

He could see that she was shaking, but also had a dagger in her hand, a dagger that was dripping blood, so she must have killed or injured one of their attackers.

The young knight saw the dagger and frowned, letting out a sigh
"You are right, you and the young maiden could of been killed because I was unprepared"
"I promise you your majesty, this will not happen again, i assure you, please forgive me"
The young knight then knelled down to her in hope of forgiveness

The Princess smiled as she saw the handsome young knight kneel before her, not least because he had just knelt in a puddle which was muddy, or at least she hoped it was mud as they had no time to get a fresh pair of trousers for the knight.

"Rise", we still have to get to Dunholm, there is more at stake here than you could understand Sir Knight.

Meanwhile, the hooded attackers were trying to explain to their employer, why exactly they had managed to fail in the task of either capturing or killing the Princess.  A task that they were quiet incapable of, as it should have been the simplest of tasks for them.  And yet the Princess was alive and still free.

The young Knight continued to guide the princess and maid to Dunholm, staying real close by them watching out for anything that may look suspicious or some  what a threat, he was ready to defend from anything
"Ugh, why did I have to kneel down in mud" he said muttering to himself

When they reached Dunholm, the Princess went looking for the Priestess of the cult of Pluwi. The cult of Light had some news that could only be passed to the Princess.

"I received notice from a Sister of the cult of Pluwi, that they had information that was of a critical nature and that for unexplained reasons their agent could not come to the city.  I was told that I had to come and the King insisted that I was escorted".

"Thank you Sir Knight" the Princess replied with surprising honesty.

She had no idea what the messenger looked like or any idea what the information was about so she had to wait until they made themselves known to her.

The young knight smiled and awaited by the princess's said for the messengers to arrive, who ever they were.
The young knight stood there hoping this wasn't some sort of set up to harm the princess, he would be ready though.
A gentlemen in grey robes came walking up to the princess.
The knight assume he was the messenger, but held on tightly onto his sword just in case.

"Princess, my Mistress, the High Priestess of our Cult, sends word that the forces of the Dark Lord are plotting against your Father and all of the Western Kingdoms.  The Serpent People of the Desert Realm have joined with the Dark Lord to overthrow the world of humans", the Grey Cloaked man said, his eyes sweeping the area for any signs of danger.

"Does she send word of what is to be done" the Princess asked

"well I am not sure why we had to come here for that" said the Princess "But the High Priestess of the Light should not be questioned by mere Princess')

"Back to the Castle Sir Knight, or shall I call you Daniel" she continued.
