ParanoiA!
« on: August 27, 2005, 04:04:19 AM »
Is the computer your friend? yes of course it is your friend, you like the computer, the computer is your friend :)

Paranoia freeform

No real character sheets but we will work with the clearance levels...

The Computer says:

Sexual Situations: Possible
Character Death: Probable
Insanely funny situations: Likely
The Computer being your friend: Always

Remember half the fun of Paranoia is a character dying in an unusual way, only to be replaced with a clone... :)

so no one really dies...

You are just expendable. :)

I would love this to be a collaborative writing venture, to make it that much more madcap and fun...

All Races, Sexes, Species, etc are allowed :)

Of course you realize you didn't have the clearance to read this... please step into death booth #3 for immediate termination.

And remember... The Computer is your friend

-End-

Yeah, sounds fun. Also always wanted to try this setting, though I do know very little of it. But what I know I like! :)

I played Paranoia quite a lot when it first came out.  It is too much fun!  Where is this game?  ::peeking around the site::

Excuse me, Friend Citizen, but will this be Paranoia XP or one of the earlier, just-as-perfect iterations of our beloved utopia?  Hooray for the Computer, whose infinite wisdom has provided us with such plentiful examples of perfection...excepting, of course, all commie mutant traitors.

Excellent answer, Citizen.  The rules are not available at your security clearance.  Unauthorized knowledge of the rules is treason.  Report all traitors to the nearest Internal Security officer at once.  Remember--failure to report treason is treason.  Thank you for your cooperation.

 ;D

Happiness is Mandatory.

I do wonder how, exactly, unauthorized biological interfacing will work into this.  It'd have to be a very, very Straight game, I would think...

The only question  have, and one we should all have clearance for, is how often will we be expected to post?   ;D

An excellent question, citizen, and one that was covered during your briefing.  You did attend your mission briefing, yes?  Failure to report failure to attend mission briefings is treason...

But seriously, the more regularly you can post, the better.  Probably.  Your fellow troubleshooters might be overzealous and assume that long silences are a sign of (gasp) something treasonous...or, worse, private conferences with The Computer.

Me, I hope Friend Computer makes this game a Straight Style one.  More chances for long term survival.  Of course, that just means the long term consequences get more consequential... ;D

ParanoiA!

I dont know if you have ever seen the Movie "Logan's Run"

Paranoia is set inside a huge complex, where people are seperated by color codes and job...

the colors

Red
Orange
Yellow
Green
Blue
Indigo
Ultraviolet

Your color code decides how much the computer trusts you...

The world is a nightmare of paperwork and red tape...  people get killed for almost no reason at all :)

I am hoping my memory is basically right in this :)

I will have a list of jobs in the game when it comes around :)

There's a nice atmospheric summary, INFRARED Clearance, just inside the Paranoia XP rulebook.  I'd put it up here, but it would probably fit better as an Intro thread once the game is up and running.

This will be fun.  The Computer says so.  Doubting The Computer is treason.

Ha! Guess who just found Paranoia 5th edition plus 7 other Paranoia books in pdf files on the University's network? Well, it wasn't me. I absolutly do not have access to any of the rules or other Paranoia products, and even if I did, I would not read them, cause I don't have the clearance. Loyal citizen, me.

I'm sorry, Citizen.  The Fifth Edition was the result of Commie Mutant Traitor interference.  It does not exist.  It has never existed.  All loyal citizens use Paranoia XP.  The Computer says so.  Doubting The Computer is treason.  It is therefore good that you have not read the Commie propaganda that is the Fifth Edition, or would be if the Fifth Edition had indeed happened, which it didn't.

(No, really! They have a rather long blurb about this in the XP rulebook.  Turns out there were some 'creative differences' involved, people let go, sectors nuked...that sort of thing.  Fifth Edition tended to be closer to what is now called the Zap! style of game, or so my Secret Society contact claims.)

(And our friend GameMaster is using First Ed, which has very little in common with either 2nd or XP.  This could be confusing...)

Ehm...yes. If I had read the 5th edition, wich I of course haven't, because I am a loyal citizen, and also, it doesn't exist. Yes.

That's it exactly.  ;D

It is still difficult to say who is more dangerous: the many happy, crazy citizens, or the Commie Mutant Traitors.  Failure to be happy will still result in your volunteering for mandatory bonus duty as reactor shielding.  And Bouncy Bubble Beverage is still the favorite drink of all loyal citizens, be they lowly Infrareds or lofty Ultraviolets.

Won't this be fun?  The Computer says so.  Trust The Computer.
