I had a good group back then. Unfortunately with me moving cross country, and at two other players moving to different countries, we're no longer playing together.

I'm sorry to hear that. :-( It sounds like you had some good times together. :-)

I'd love to RP with you sometime! :D If I'm approved in February, that is. Keep you fingers crossed for me! ;D

Would be nice to get a stronger L5R community growing and playing on E.  As of yet none have gotten off the ground, but system games are notoriously hard to get off the ground with forums I've learned.

Well if there'll be a game I'd love to play Phoenix bushi, perhaps as sort of body guard to a Shunjenga.

I would definitely take part if we got one started! :D I think a free-form or play-by-post style of roleplaying would be more attractive to people than if we followed the given rules exactly. :-)

Even freeform would be welcome.

I'd certainly prefer it! :D

The problem with system games is that they tend to slow down a lot when dice have to be rolled. When you're dealing with people in assorted timezones and countries, and you're having to wait on people taking their turn, 5 minutes round a table can turn into weeks on a forum.

Using the voice chat does speed it up .. I ran the Night of a Thousand Screams via Mumble, and while it was probably a little slower than a tabletop session, it was a lot faster than forum posting.

What is Mumble? I don't think I've ever heard of it.

Free voice chat.

As for dice, I find the best way to speed that up is to have the GM roll most things.  Combat though is of course a big slow down, but I'd hope the deadly nature of L5R combat would bypass some of the complications.

Ohhh, okay! :D

It would be fairer to have the GM to do most of the dice rolls. :-) That way the players couldn't just pretend that they got a good roll each time. We can't all cleave an oni in half with just one blow! ;D

I'm all for dice rolls and following the rules when playing a tabletop game with a group of friends, but on an online forum, I'm much more comfortable playing it freestyle. :-) So long as nobody tries to be invulnerable, it could work out, and it might attract players who aren't used to playing paper-and-pencil roleplaying games. But that's just my opinion. ;D

Allowing the GM to handle all the dice rolls is a good idea yet combat is still going to be slow.  Each round would include a flurry of PMing back and forth to relay the rolls, wait for the players to post and then wait for the combat to resolve.  Running forum games with systems is a clumsy thing at best but still enjoyable; I just prefer freeform with such things.  Still, getting into a L5R game is pretty high on my list right now.

I wouldn't mind being a fairly innocent Crane or Scorpion who sudden finds herself married to a burly, lustful Crab. *wink, wink* ;)

LOL, good girl! ;D And perhaps I am innocent enough that I'm completely unaware that you're a ninja under the orders of our clan. OR, perhaps I do know, but I am forced to remain silent lest the Crab Clan openly accuse the Scorpion of treachery.

Oooo... Lots of room for intrigue here! ;D

Intrigue and other things.  ;D

I tend to play multiple characters so the introduction of a Crane courtier rice wine connoisseur with who has a bit of a hedonistic streak wouldn't be too unlikely.

LOL! ;D *Bows respectfully* Yes, Honorable Master. ;)

Has anyone ever played a member of the Unicorn Clan? I never have, but I think it'd be fun. :-) I love how they don't care what the other clans think of their "barbarian" ways. And being able to eat meat now and then would be a nice change. ;D

Especially if you are a Crab.

"Woman, I have been to the pits of Hell itself and slain the devils that haunt your nightmares and rend the flesh of your villagers!  I have few needs but tonight, you shall take care of them from upon your knees."

The Crab are known to be very gentle and loving to their wives.
