The Summoned Advisors
« on: December 19, 2012, 03:28:48 AM »
Story set in a DnD3E universe.

Two countries seperated by a mountain range have been at war for many decades. To find a new and thus possibly unpredictable way to win, high-level Wizards on one side began summoning advisors, starting with Celestials and going on to other outsiders. Which didn't work all that well, but now they have found a very strange kind of mortal from a vastly different kind of universe. They are called 'players'.

Every writer contributing will create a character (not yourself!) who plays DnD3E almost fanatically (and so the writer should have a good, working knowledge of DnD3E), and use that as her/ his point-of-view. Those writers who wish to contribute to the design of the enemy are welcome (must work out how to include without giving special knowledge). Though existing in a world of classes, each character starts out as 0-level no-class. NPC-s of the main country (the one that summons us) are shared, and will be defined in an OOC post. Other than an OOC post to show your character's details, most of the posts should be In-Character and sequential or identified by in-game-world days and times.

To define your character, get ahold of a good character questionaire (like that at http:// 'sextuple-u' {dot} For an example, below find OOC#1, Phillip Johnston.

Give a two or three word description of yourself. 20-something male American gamer-nerd
Do you have any nicknames, street names, titles, nom de plume?
"Buff the Mighty" (favorite old character)
Vilhelm Von Eckmann (SCA Personna)

What is your full birth name? Phillip Johnston

Where do you live? Las Vegas Nevada (USA)
Why do you live there? If I manage to make magick work for me, it's the best place to test it by becoming rich.
What is your citizenship status? USA born and raised

What is your most obvious blessing or strength? Intelligence
What do you perceive as your greatest strength?  Strength of Personality

What is your most obvious flaw or weakness? Easily obsessed

What do you perceive as your greatest weakness?
I dislike conflict so much that I have backed-down when it wasn't best.

Was there any event or cause of these weaknesses?
The way my parents argued at the drop of a hat.

How old are you? 27

What is your gender? Male

What is your species/race? White American

How tall are you? 6'2"

How much do you weigh? I don't know (a bit of flab)

What is your general body type, frame, bone structure, and poise? Ectomorph, standard, poise? Not sure.

What is your skin color? Pink I guess.

What is your hair color? Brown
What is your hair style? Long, pony-tail
Do you have any facial hair? It grows so slowly it irritates me, so I shave it all off every other week.

What is your eye color? Hazel
Does it change? Nope

How attractive are you? Physically? I might be a 4. Otherwise I'm probably a 3.

What is your most distinguishing feature? Nothing.
Do you have any scars, tattoos, or birthmarks? Minor scars on forearms.
If so, how did you acquire them? Saws and knives while growing up

What is your handedness (left/right)? Right

Do you resemble some currently known person? I sure hope not, poor guy.

What is your hand size/description? Proportionate.

Do you wear a uniform? At work.
What kind of clothing do you wear? I like bowling shirts.
What is your clothing's style or level of sophistication? No patches, clean, but not very sophisticated or expensive.

Do you wear makeup? No.

Do you wear glasses/contacts? Glasses.

What sort of vocal tone do you have? People tell me I sound like Kermit the Frog.

Do you get sick? Sometimes.
Maybe you catch the flu twice a year and that's it? Once a year.

Where is your homeland? US of A!What are it's people like? Arrogant, merciful, confusing.
Are you aware of it's history? Yes.
Are you patriotic or a social outcast? I think I'm a patriotic outcast, but no-one else seems to think so.
What are your opinion of home? I love it, but it seems to be crumbling.

Where is your home town? Northern Nevada
What is your home town's name? Fernley (though many call it 'Fern-tucky')
What was the area like and how did it affect you? It's a small town, along I-80. I hate small towns.
Did you witness any historical events? No.

What about your race, growing up were you in the majority or a minority? Majority, but there was a kind of reverse-racism in the culture and media.
How were you treated by other nearby races? Ignored/ avoided (fine by me)
Were you persecuted for your race? Not that I know of
Did this impact your outlook in any way? I dislike racial comparisons, I judge each person on what they do.
Did it affect your personality? How would I know?
How do you feel about other races? I don't. To me, a person is a person, not a member of a race.

What was childhood like for you? Dry (in a desert), but I survived it.
Was it calm and peaceful or turbulent and traumatic? How about peaceful and traumatic? I don't do dualism really well.
Did you have any childhood friends? A couple.
If so, who and where are they now? John Kring, still lives in Fernley; Thomas Lamar, somewhere in the midwest.
Are you still close to them or have you grown apart? Fairly close, frequent phone calls.

What stupid things did you do when you were younger? Shoplifting followed by community service.

Which toys from your childhood have you kept? None
If you didn't keep any, why not? I don't get on with Christianity, but there is a time to put away childish things.
What did you do to them all? I left most of them in Fernley.

Do you have any deep, dark secrets in the past that may come back to haunt you? I'm a Pagan. I can't seem to get magick to work for me.

What conflicts might arise from your past? Dad was a Navy Pilot stationed in Fallon. Mom was a hippie. I can talk to either and reincarnate arguments they've had with the other.

Are you who you claim to be? I rarely claim. But yes.

Do you have any sort of criminal record? Disorderly conduct with Contempt of Court. I was homeless, punched a cop and mouthed off to the judge to get shelter and three meals a day for 6 months.

How do you view the heroes/legends of your country? With a compassionate shaker of salt - - - they can't have been as 'perfect' and juiceless as I was taught, but I don't know their realities.

Who were your parents? Rafael Johnston, Navy Pilot; MoonFlower Freidman (no one told Mom the 60-s ended)
Were you raised by them? Yes.

What did your parents and/or foster parents do for a living? Dad retired from the Navy and bought an apple farm near Fernley. He sold that when I was six and we moved into town.
What was their standing in the community? Retired with a young kid.
Did your family stay in one area or move around a lot? Like an anchor was slammed down from the sky!

How would your parents describe you? Answer this in the voice of your mother, then in your father's.
Mom: "Phillip is a little conflicted, doesn't know what to do with his life. It's difficult for him to believe in anything, to really commit, to allow it to be whatever it is. He judges everything in how useful he thinks it might be to him, usually getting it wrong. He doesn't trust his own feelings, which I blame on his Father."
Dad: "Stupid little prick, no gumption, no follow-through."

Do you love or hate one member of the family in particular? Gramma, till she died (love).
Are there any black (or white) sheep in the family (including you)? Yeah, I have a cousin who is the drug-dealer of Fernley.
How do you feel about him? Well, he's got a nice life for now, but his doom is coming.

Have you begun your own family? No.
If not, do you ever want to have a family of your own someday? I'd like it, but I don't believe that any sane woman would really want to be with me, and I don't want to put up with a lot of insanity.
If so, with who or what type of person? I just can't imagine.

Do you have any close friends? A few, we game together.
If so, who and what are they like? I have Pagan friends via a 'coven' (not Wiccan), and I have gaming friends, with one cross-over. The Pagan friends wouldn't like to be named, so I won't. My gaming friends are 6, two are casino dealers, two manufacturing laborers, and two recent high school graduates looking for work. 4 guys, 2 gals. Why would you need to know their names?
What is the history of their relationship(s) with you? I met one gamer via an advertisement at a hobby store, and she introduced me to the other gamers. I got to know some of the Pagans online, and then one of the gamers turned out to be one of the people I had met online. He introduced me to the rest of the 'coven'.

Do you currently have a best friend whom you would protect with your reputation or your life? Not really.
Do you have any bitter enemies? People who dislike me on sight, I don't know why.

Which person(s) or group(s) are you most loyal to? Me.

How do you think others generally perceive you? Enigmatic.

If someone crossed your path, what would you do? What do you mean, just walking? Let 'em walk.

Who is your most trusted ally? My Akido Sensei.
Who do you trust, in general? Not really anyone.

Who do you despise and why? People who rely on dualism to convince others of patently stupid ideas.

Name seven things you hate in others. Dualism (the idea that there are only two ways to anything, and that one of them is 'right'); Hypocracy;
Corruption; Gratuitous Violence; Proselytism; Yelling for no reason; Aggression.

Is your image consistent? How do you mean?
Do people see you in similar ways? Some do.
Do you deliberately present yourself differently in different situations, and how? Well, if it isn't a situation that I'm familiar with, I tend to be quiet.

What is the worst thing someone has done to you? A wheel-barrow fell off his truck in front of me on the highway, totalled my car - - - he never stopped or even looked back.

What are your general reaction to an attractive member of the opposite sex who lets you know they are available? Well, confusion I guess - - - followed by jokes to see if she's serious or drunk.

How do you get along with others in the same field and/or work environment? Fairly well.

Who would miss you, should you go missing? My gamers, maybe my coven-mates.

Who might protect you? Nobody. Why should they risk their necks?

How close are you to your friends? I like 'em, they like me.
What do they know about you? Lots.
What do they not know about you? I don't talk about having been homeless very much.

Do you live with anyone? I sub-let two rooms out of my 4-bedroom apartment. I know their names, but we aren't friends.

What is your current status with local law-enforcement? They know about me and my past. I haven't been able to get a gaming work card.
Do you have a record of cooperation or non-cooperation with authorities? Recently? Neither.
Do you have a file with local, national or internation law enforcement? Local.

Do you, or did you, have any role models? Gary Gygax, but the way he liked to game was very limited.
Do you have any heroes or idols, either contemporary or from legend? I like how Enki rebelled in favor of humankind.
If so, have you ever met them? No, not even heard from.
Did you ever become disillusioned with former heroes or idols? If so, why and what were the circumstances? Other people in the 'coven' get to talk to their Gods or Goddesses, and hear from them. Why can't I?

Do you have any dreams or ambitions? I'd like to get paid for gaming.

What are your short term goals (what would you like to be doing within a year)? Successfully using magick to become rich.
What are your long term goals (what would you like to be doing twenty years from now)? Living well in Northern California off of a Lottery Annuity.
If these goals seem at odds with each other or with your dreams, how do you reconcile the differences? I'm not sure that they can be.
How do you seek to fulfill these dreams, goals, & ambitions? I've tried a number of "spells", without effect. I'm focusing on affirmations and a magickal work called the 'Pantakle' to massively increase my luck...

What are your attitudes regarding material wealth? I want it!
Are you miserly with your share of the wealth, or do you spend it freely? I like spending money.
Are you greedy or generous? I'm generous sometimes - - - I remember what it was like to be homeless, and when I see someone in need, who isn't faking or getting over, I'm glad to help them. I don't give winos money, but a hot chocolate? Definitely!
Do you see wealth as a mark of success, or just as a means to an end? It is a means to having a wonderful life, without having to work.

How do you generally treat others? It depends.
Do you trust easily or not? I have before, and so nowadays I don't.

Are you introverted (shy and withdrawn) or extroverted (outgoing)? Introverted, but not really shy.

Are you a humble soul or blusteringly proud? Nope. Are you a dualist?

Do you act differently than you feel (concealing your true thoughts)? That's the best way, unless you want to get conned.

What habits would you find most annoying in friends? Tapping pencil on teeth while waiting for a turn during game, flashing cleavage when she wants to distract me but has no sexual intentions with me.

How do others typically react to you? At work? They make use of the services I provide. Socially? I don't get out much. At games? They play well when I'm GMing (except for the cleavage-chick), but when I'm playing they seem to think that I'm stupid.
Why, in your opinion, do they act that way? I have no idea.

What are your most annoying habits? How would I know? Oh, I like to shake all the bubbles out of two-liters of Dr Pepper before I drink them, I like them cold and flat.

What is your favorite food? Prime Rib, nice and rare, with garlic salt.
What is your favorite drink? Dr Pepper.
What is your favorite treat (desert)? Strawberry Ice Cream.
Do you favour a particular cuisine? American! I had a real Italian Pizza once, man, what a drag!
Do you savor the tastes when eating or "wolf down" your food? I've gotten the dry heaves once from that 'wolfing' shit - - - never again.

Are there any specific foodstuffs that you find disgusting or refuse to eat? Ortega Chiles. Anchovies.
Are you allergic to any food? Nope.

What are your favorite color(s)? Red. Sky Blue.
Is there any color that you dislike? Most Greens, anything with a lot of Grey in it.

What is your favorite type of animal? I like dogs, but I'm allergic to them.
Do you have an animal totem or affinity, and if so for what? Well, I can't tell. One of my friends says my totem is 'Owl', but I can't be sure.
Is there a certain type of animal that you hate or fear? Anything that crawls into your stuff while you're sleeping.
Are you allergic to any kinds of animals? Dogs & horses.

Do you have any allergies? Are you deaf? Dogs & Horses!!! Oh, and alcohol.

Is there anything that enrages you? People repeating stupid questions comes to mind...

Is there anything which embarrasses you? Yeah.
How do you react to being teased about it? I put up with it for a while, warn about being close to my 'edge', then invite for Akido demonstrations or SCA practise.

Do you enjoy "roughing it", or do you prefer your creature comforts? I like living in my tent at SCA events.

Do you believe in the gods or not? I believe, but I can't seem to hear.
Do you have a patron Deity? I'd like to.
Are you devout or impious? Devout, I guess.
Do you actively worship and proselytize or do you simply pay lip service? I worship, but I don't proselytize.
What lengths would you go to defend your faith? How can anyone possibly defend their faith? Either they believe or they don't.

Was your faith influenced or molded by anyone special? I've seen friends do spells and have results. I've been to a pagan convention, and I'd like to be as inspired as many of them are.

Do you belong to the orthodox church, or a fringe element thereof (and is the group accepted, frowned upon, or considered heretics)? There's no church, though Christians seem to think that we are heretics.
How has this impacted your faith and life? Not much, except that I'd like to have more regular interactions than once a month, and I'd like there to be someone to talk to about my problems with magic and with hearing the gods.

Is your church an accepted religion where you grew up or did it have to conduct its services in secret? Neither. Not accepted, but not in secret.
How did this affect your faith and life? It hasn't.
Have you ever been persecuted for your faith? No, this is America, dude!

Can you kill? I'm not sure. I don't think so. I hope not.
When do you consider it okay to kill (under what circumstances)? I guess if someone were trying to rape me...
When do you consider it wrong to kill (under what circumstances)? Almost all the time.

What would you do if someone else attempted to (or successfully did) kill under their "wrong" circumstances, what would be your reaction? Well, if they killed me I probably wouldn't be having much of a reaction; presuming I really loved someone and they killed her, I think I would defeat them, tie them up, cut off index fingers and cut out tongue, break a bunch of bones, drop them off for the cops with evidence as to what they had done.
What if it were your enemy? Same thing, more bones broken.
What if it were your friend? No bones broken.
What if it were an innocent? How is that possible? Oh, an accident? And accident under the 'wrong' circumstances? I still don't see how that's possible.
What if the opponent were not in control of their own actions (i.e.-under duress, charmed, dominated, possessed, etc.)? Find out who was controlling him/her, defeat, tie, break bones, etc.

What would you do if someone shot at (attacked) you? Hopefully avoid being hit, then get close and take away the gun.
What would you do if something were stolen from you? I've had stereo parts stolen from my car - - - I chased the guys on foot for 18 blocks and learned to lock my car.
What would you do if you were badly insulted publicly? From someone whose opinion I don't care about = ignore. If I care about their opinion, have a discussion and figure out why they feel that way.
What would you do if a good friend or relative were killed by means other than natural death? Find out the circumstances.

What is the one task you would absolutely refuse to do? Vote.

What do you consider to be the worst crime someone could commit and why? Involve the military of my country in a war to one-up his Dad.

How do you feel about government (rulers) in general? A necessary evil.
Why do you feel that way? I have lived in America, and I have visited other nations.
Do you support the current government of your homeland? No.
If so, how far are you willing to go to defend the government? It's the worst government humans have ever thought of, except for all the other ones being practised.
If not, do you actively oppose it? Of course not, what would the point of that be?

Do you belong to an anti-government organization? Any 'organization' that opposes anything is a miniature government with all of government's foibles, so, no!

What form of government do you believe is the best (democracy, monarchy, anarchy, aristocratic rule, oligarchy, matriarchy) and why? None is the best, except that's difficult to live in. Both Libertarianism and Communism are wonderful fantasies, but no-one can actually live them. Star Trek would be cool - - - replicators making as much of anything that anyone wanted, so no money, no corruption. Is that any more of a fantasy than Libertarian or Communism?

Have you ever been persecuted for your political stance? There have been some very intense discussions.

What is your favorite color? Do you think that I won't notice if you repeat a question, even if widely seperated by a bunch of other questions? Have you ever seen an Akido Demonstration?

What place would you most like to visit? Faerun.

What annoys you the most? Right now repetitive questions tops the list.

What (if any) are your favorite forms of art? Music & movies (a good villian-death is amazing!).

Do you have a good luck charm? If I could find one that works....

If your life were to end in 24 hours, what 5 things would you do in those remaining hours? Cash out my savings, buy a lot of 'Whip-it'-s, spend as much time high as possible; call up my Dad and tell him how fucked-up he is; call Mom and tell her I love her, even if she is crazy; say good bye to my friends.

Does you have a "Black-and-White" view of reality or can you see shades of grey? Definitely grey, not sure about 'shades'...

Are you deliberate or spontaneous? Are you Dualist or Idiotic?

Do you prefer the town or the country? Suburbs. Get a life! Figure out more possibilities!!

If made to decide, would you rather be deaf or blind? Why? Deaf. Sign-language looks easier than braile.

How do you feel about magic, myth, and the supernatural? I love it all!! But I'm not sure that it's real.

Do you remember your dreams? When I want to.
Describe a typical dream you might have. A friend and I are driving up toward Mount Charleston, because we heard that someone was going to 'shoot the moon'. We drive into their camp, where they have a bunch of shot-guns set up with tripods. He trashes stuff with his car, while I get out and use my sword to cut the shit out of the guns.
Describe your worst nightmares. I wake up, and I'm 9 again, and Mom and Dad are having another knock-down, drag-out argument. I can't get out of bed, but I know Dad's gonna win, then come in and spank the shit out of me...then I wake up, and I'm 9 again, and Mom and Dad are having another knock-down, drag-out argument. I can't get out of bed, but I know Dad's gonna win, then come in and spank the shit out of me...then I wake up, and I'm 9 again, and Mom and Dad are having another knock-down, drag-out argument. I can't get out of bed, but I know Dad's gonna win, then come in and spank the shit out of me...

What was your relationship with your teacher(s)/mentor(s)? I paid attention, and passed.
How did you happen across this teacher or mentor? There was a food-stamp-related program for getting homeless kids off the street.
Was your mentor kind, stern, cruel, indifferent? Demanding but fair.
Is this person or institution still in existence? Yup. Now they've got concrete walls around the campus.
Were you forced into your profession by parents or peers? No. But Dad told me he was proud of me when I graduated.
Did circumstances dictate your choice of profession? Kind of.

Were you a prize student or did you just barely pass? Or something in between, because we know you are not either a dualist or an idiot, right?

Have you ever done anything else for a living? I tried being a janitor. The work is okay, but everyone treats you like shit.

How do you function in combat (maneuvers, weaknesses)? Akido? I'm pretty dang good. SCA, I'm learning. On the street, I run very well.
How would you best be defeated? Surprise, knife to throat.

What are your long-term goals in work? Stay employed until it is no longer necessary.

How do your relatives and friends view your present occupation? Mom thinks it's a waste of time, which it kind of is. It pays the bills, and I can save about $200 a month. My gaming friends enjoy me hosting the games in my apartment.

Is there anything that you don't currently know how to do that you wish you could? Magic! Hear the Gods!! Get rich and retire!!!
Are you envious of others who can do such things in a good-natured way or are you sullen and morose about it? I think I'm sullen in a good-natured way, and I think you are an idiot.

What is your normal daily routine? Get up around the crack of noon, shower, dress, cook and eat breakfast; go down to the garage and see what needs doing when I come on at 3; go shopping or whatever until 2:30, return to the garage, change into overalls, go to work; complete the day's tasks, change clothes; go out to my car, ground, center, clear, work the Pantakle, choose a Casino and drive there; park and walk around until 12:30, head for the Roulette Tables and try out my luck ($30 stake, 3 plays of $10 each), if no wins I go home, if any wins I put half into my stake pocket and half into my keep pocket, when my stake pocket runs dry, go home; usually get home by 2 am, write some (game prep), then go to bed.
How do you feel and react when this routine is interrupted for some reason? Overtime kills my luck check and makes me feel depressed; winning so much that I don't make it home in time to get any sleep tends to make me call-in sick and feel wonderful! It hasn't happened yet, but that's what I dream of...

What are your hobbies? Gaming! I guess Roulette, too.

What would you do if you had insomnia and had to find something to do to amuse yourself? Do extra game prep for a few weeks ahead of time.

What is your idea of a good evening's entertainment? Prime Rib Dinner ($5) followed by a great movie like the Avengers! "Puny god'!!!

Do you get seasick, airsick, motion sick (auto or animal)? Well, if I read while someone else is driving, or anytime I'm near a horse (allergies).
Do you like riding animals? I've been on a camel once, and that was okay. I'd like to give elephants a try.

Any fears in traveling? Like what?

What sorts of general belongings or equipment do you take when traveling? The only time I really travel is to SCA events, so I take my camping stuff and my personna's garb and gear.

What are your hangout places? I often read in the Library on a day off.
Do you go to a bar after work? If it's payday there are some good topless bars that serve fruit juice around Vegas.
Do you play pool? No.
Do you go dancing? No, unless you count Akido...
Who goes with you? Why would anyone choose me to dance with?

Do you have a favorite artist, or band? Wings, Tears for Fears, Wang Chun, the Blue-man Group.
Will you listen to or sing the same songs over and over, or does it drive you nuts when people do that? Not the same song in a row, that is crazy. But when you get a good set....

everything was cool to here:
Do you get seasick, airsick, motion sick (auto or animal)? Well, if I read while someone else is driving, or anytime I'm near a horse (allergies).
Do you like riding animals? I've been on a camel once, and that was okay. I'd like to give elephants a try.
and then I guess it decided that there were too many formatting commands. Good to know.
