In a democracy, everyone gets to vote. In a fair society, no one is tricked into not voting, or harassed, or obstructed in any way from exercising their rights.

But we know there will be problems out there.

The nonpartisan Election Protection coalition  was formed to ensure that all voters have an equal opportunity to participate in the political process.

Through state-of-the-art hotlines: 1-866-OUR-VOTE (administered by the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law) and 1-888-Ve-Y-Vota (administered by the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials Education Fund), their website, their smartphone app, and comprehensive voter protection field programs across the country, Election Protection provides Americans from coast-to-coast with comprehensive voter information and advice on how they can make sure their vote is counted.

So far this year they've handled over six hundred calls from North Carolina voters during the Early Voting period there on a wide range of issues, including discriminatory treatment of curbside voters, confusion over ID requirements, illegal electioneering at the polls, broken machines, and false information about voting by phone.  They're also pushing for better voting options in areas affected by Hurricane Sandy, and keeping people in affected area updated on changes.  Election Protection has been preparing for months to deal with voter suppression attempts, vigilante groups, and Tea Party-affiliated organizations such as True the Vote.

As you head to the polls tomorrow, make sure you take their phone # with your.  Or, follow them on Twitter.  And share their number with everyone you know, especially if they might be a member of a group target for voter suppression.  If you run into problems at the polls, call 1 866 OUR VOTE or report your problem via Twitter using hashtag #OVLReport

And check out Our Vote Live for the latest reports from voters all over the US. It tracks/maps/addresses any voter questions/problems.
