What is a 'spider'?
« on: May 25, 2008, 04:24:03 PM »
Just curious, in regards to the 'Spiders active in the last 60 minutes'.

I didn't know Google was a species of spider xD.

A spider is a computer program used to crawl web pages and index them for search engines. : )

Google and MSN are pretty well behaved. Yahoo is a monster -_-

Veks beat me to the definition, but it really can be kind of funny to look at some of the things that it appears one or another of them is 'doing.' There's a thread somewhere that people listed the strange things a spider was listed as 'doing.'

Beat me to it there Vek...*smiles*

At times we are over whelmed by them, but we suffer the little buggers because it adds to our search engine visibility....

And yes, Yahoo ones are very naughty....

Yahoo is the only one overwhelming us. Which is annoying, because Yahoo hates our guts.

*grins* Hey, I resemble that remark! Yes, some of us can be easily amused by the silliest of things. I've laughed out loud at a few things the spiders were 'doing.'

Yes I find it quite ammusing.
Type in 'adult roleplay sites' and you get this message:

We had temporary problems searching for web pages. Search again for adult role play sites or type a new query above.

Type in roleplay sites and you get the usual stuff.

Does Yahoo really think that fools anyone? *rolls eyes*

AND I can get Hentai, porn sites and other sex related sites but not roleplay sites.....

It's here: http://elliquiy.com/forums/index.php?action=who

To get there from the forums main page, go down to the bottom, and the first line under 'Users Online' is a link to that page.

I can venture a guess: Yahoo has a terrible search engine with horrible spiders that seem to dislike every forum.  I would use Yahoo to search for...well, nothing.  Ever.  I even use Google to find the Spades page on Yahoo.

:P

it's not us, it's me.  Yahoo hates me ever since i poured jell-o into it's seach engine and broke it.  I am very sorry and will leave if it helps to clear out the infestations of spiders :)
