Chronicle RP (Interest Check)

Similar plot to the movie, but with OCs. A group of friends get telekinetic powers, as they get stronger conflict arises. I havent written out all the details because they are subject to change based on who wants to join and how the personalities of the OCs end up fitting together.

I'm going to need a minimum of 3 other people before this RP can begin. Preferably a balanced cast of males and females. Multiple characters are allowed per person but only 1 character who gets the powers, the rest have to stay powerless.

I'm putting myself down as a possible.  I'd have to see if ideas form up, but unfortunately I already have a telekinetic in another game, so I can't guarantee it.

I'll be writing up a plot outline for the start of the RP soon. (An intro of how they get their powers and how it relates to the film) Run it over with everyone and see what's good and what's not, make revisions.

So, any suggestions before I begin?

Ok, here's the plan unless anyone else objects.

Sometime in the late 60s the government was researching better ways to maneauver spacecraft in outer space. During a failed practice run one of our ships collided with a nearby asteroid. The Astronaut inside was presumed dead and the project was scrapped. After obtaining the wreckage officials realized the passenger inside was in fact alive.
During quarentine he began to show signs of telekinetic powers developing. After extensive studying officials were unable to determine the source of their astronaut's power, and the asteroid that caused the collision would be next to impossible to track down at this point though estimates showed it could have crashed somewhere on the west coast.
It wasn't until the late 80s that clues surfaced to allow the project to re-open. A young man from Canada discovered a strange rock buried in his back yard. Teens and children who would often sneak through the fields reported strange events ranging from strange noises, to gravity vanishing within a certain radius of the rock, among other things.

So my plan is for the RP to take place in Canada during the 90's, before the events of the Movie.
If you'd rather me change it to taking place AFTER the movie, let me know. Or if you have any other things you'd like to see changed.

I'm interested in this, and if i may throw my two cents in a bit early. a prequel is a good idea, and one i hadn't thought of, but why not just replace the events in the movie with the events in the RP. Andrew, Steve, and the surviving guy, (forgot his name) will have just never found it. Our characters will find the rock/alien/mystical/mineral/thing instead.

I am interested in this. I watched a cam of the movie when it first came out but I am going to watch it again since it was good and there should be a better copy now. Not sure what kind of character I will make but I will make sure not to copy anyone else :p

Well, this wouldn't likely interrupt the Canon. My idea is after the end of this RP, the US government sends in a team to move it to Cali. and as the jet is flying over the Seattle area 'complications' arise resulting in the rock being lost again until the events of the movie.

I was toying with having multiple rocks but the plot I had turned out far too cheesy and I scrapped that plan.

I wanted to do something like the 60s or 70s but not being alive back then I'd probably screw something up. (Like accidentally making a Bill Clinton Joke, or have the characters mention a band that wasnt around at that time, or owning a car that wasnt invented yet).

Were I to throw out a suggestion, I'd say that instead of the canon of what happened in the movie, the PCs in this game found the thing instead.  It can then be set modern-day, you don't have to worry about mundane people being on the watch for this stuff, and so on.

I actually wanted it to be in the past but the 90's is the earliest I feel comfortable writing about without screwing it up.
Just curious, why is everyone insistent on getting rid of the Canon? I mean it really has no affect on the RP really.

As for characters, I already called dibbs on the abused kid who kinda goes crazy. Though I'm kind of hoping for a love interest that will end up saving him before the tragic ending similar to Andrew's.
We need AT LEAST 3, and probably a MAX of 5 characters who get the telekinetic powers. The RP is also open to non-telekinetics if anyone wants to play multiple characters or we get more members after hitting the max or characters with powers.

Currently rules are:
1 Character with Telekinesis per player.
Unlimited non-telekinetics per player. (But keep it reasonable)

I am fine with it being set in the 90s and I agree that having two rocks is a bit cheesy. It also makes sense to keep the Cannon in the story since if this goes well you can always jump ahead to the events in the movie and have something happen to our characters because of it. Not that that is likely to happen but that's my two cents.

I mean, there's nothing in the RP that HAS to go against Canon.

The idea is for the characters to be college age, and like in the movie probably sneaking out from a party.

Next question. Seeing as this is an adult RP site, how much adult content is preferred?
