I had issues with drugs a lot before. Alcohol I feel is the worst, but gosh its so hard to disassociate the cultural and social aspects vs medical.

Cultures that have drugs entwined with rituals (ie its done on certain days of the year / but for a reason ... ) I think is sensible.

Places / times where it is ok, and in the culture i think is good .. and the drugs always improved to have minimal detrimental effects
- ambition / brain damage etc, would help.

Some narcotic dont have the determintal effects most did think they did, some (DMT, naturally occuring in many plants), and i think heroin also
if made properly is neuro-non-toxic and doesnt mess with brain chemistry after the rush has passed.
