Alternative History (Non-Con OPEN)
« on: May 30, 2012, 11:44:24 PM »
The Roman empire did not break apart and remained strong through what was the dark ages and into the 21st century, roman legions are armed with machine guns and their destroyers and aircraft carriers sail in all but the pacific. The only empires to rise in Europe is England which managed to free themselves from their Roman oppressors during what would have been the dark ages and are now budding, Germany which destroyed the Romans in The Battle of the Teutoburg Forest with the legions never managing to quell the barbarians and a potent force has risen from it. Russia also stands as a power which has successfully defended itself from multiple Roman invasions but is wracked with endless internal issues.

Rome controls the provinces of France, Spain, Corsica, Morocco, Libya, Egypt, Persia (Modern day Turkey and Iran), The Arabias and Isreal. Mexico, Brazil, and Australia

Finally the mighty monolith is showing cracks, incredibly powerful political leaders have risen in the provinces of Spain and France, The Roman Catholic church faces dissent from a protestant minority and science. The Muslim faith threatens a united Middle-Eastern Rome with terrorism and the United States is becoming a powerhouse separate from their former rulers in Rome. The Roman empire is in a war with India, a long time satellite kingdom which has demanded freedom, supported by the Chinese a long time rival of Rome.

Rome is ruled by the 107th Caesar Leo 10th and the Republic with two senators for every province

Looking for a court/political game

Always looked to place a court feeling in a modern day context. All that intrigue and debauchery brought to the modern day.

Women can hold office and the womans movement has occurred, as has equal rights, slavery is over.

What you can play?

Senators
Courtesans
Wives
Royal family
Generals
Diplomats from the free countries
Administrators from the Provinces
Religious Leaders (Catholic, Protestant, Muslim and Hindu are all present)
Scientists

Coliseum TV

(For playing Secondary charries)

Supported by the current empire captured prisoners of low rank, and criminals as well as captured women are subject to the horrors of the Coliseum, now a mechanical marvel, combat, public rape, dangerous racing and recreations of Romes thousands of battles as well as all out melee combat full of saw blades random gunfire and   are all for public consumption and is the center of a massive media campaign. Promoting fear and awe in the World surrounding Rome.

Potential Charries

Pro gladiators
Racers
Poor bastard trying to survive :P

yeah, this is a cool idea. I'm in.

so far... I'm thinking frnech ambassador, french royalty, french royal leader.... something french and rebellious. but sneaky and socialable to anyone... like a female Baylish "Little finger" from Game-o-Thrones. She would likely have a little bit more of an egenda than Lord Baylish does, that being, to free the provinces of what she considers to be France. I'm sure her understanding of the borders would be different than how we have it today.

But, I want more, this game is huge, and I really like it. Question: About the native americans, did the Romans completely slaughter them too, or...was there a peaceful settling, and mixed races? Because, a half roman / half native american race would be something pretty special to play.

Because I can ill lay out North America

Modern Day Canada is now known as the Northern Confederacy (This is based off of the Iroquois Confederacy not the Southern confederates of the States) A nation of Native American tribes from as far down as Cherokee and Sioux who retreated to the nation when the Roman province offered Safety from American expansion and violence. An uprising supported by the English and their fleet allowed the nation to become independent during the early industrial age. It is Democratic but has a heavy emphasis on relying on circles of elders for leadership. The Romans refer to these people as White Eagles (Think Metis) A cross of Roman (Eagle) and Native (White or Northern roots) The Natives are proud of their individual tribes but also refer to themselves as Northerners or Confederates and they have an embassy in Rome.

The USA has the same borders, it is Democratic but is far more militant due to constant war with Rome from Mexico.

Mexico is a Roman province and constantly harries the US. More legions lie across the American/Mexican border than anywhere else in the world.

That makes sense to me. I was thinking it would be a fairly political marriage. Assuming that the system of royal marriages persists in Rome as with other historical autocracies.

This sounds like it could be a LOT of fun. Am thinking more along the lines of a Courtesan. Perhaps the young widow of a Senator, left to fend for herself among the shark infested waters of political intrigue and using her wiles to earn her "keep" as well as to learn political secrets that allow her to maintain the life she had become accustomed to. :D

Rich clients who unload their worries thinking that their money will buy silence and never realizing they are giving her room to maneuver and manipulate them.

Political character

**Some of this is rather general and vague since things like alliances, contracts, and relationships will have to be worked out more specifically as more characters are posted. :) Hope you like it Elias.

Name: Micheala "Mia" Romano
Gender: Female
Age: 32

Nation/Province: Italy, Rome
Occupation: Courtesan/Madame

Personality: Micheala is a study in contradictions if you look closely enough. On the outside she is always smiling, always laughing, the perfect adornment for whichever man has contracted her time. She is well educated, paints, rides, sails, and can handle herself easily among the elite of Roman society. Most men see the pretty bauble she pretends to be and don't look any further. Behind the smiling eyes however is an intelligent and constantly working mind. She plans her assignations carefully and only accepts contracts with those wealthy and well positioned enough to further her own ambitions.

Background: Born to parents that knew the value of political power she was married off young to a Senator who wanted a pretty trophy wife to grace his arm at political functions. Like many men since he never looked beyond the pretty packaging of his young bride to realize how sharp witted she was or how many alliances and deals she made on his behalf with simply a gentle word here and there, a warm smile, a shrewd gaze and intimate knowledge of just what intrigues were happening around her.

Only a few months after her marriage her parents died in a car crash and a couple years after that her husband (who was significantly older than her) passed away in his sleep leaving her the sole heir to both her parents land, and her husbands wealth and the station she'd gained being his wife. Both were helpful but Mia wasn't one to sit around and do nothing and she had grown used to the political intrigues swirling around her that being a Senator's wife had given her access too. Without her husband however, she found invitations to social events drying up.

Political widows weren't exactly social necessities.

When the first offers for contracts came in she was indignant! Just because she was a widow didn't mean she was a harlot! The more she ignored them however, the more outrageous some of the offers became until she finally found herself accepting on from a man she had always been attracted to who offered not only to pay for her time, but who wished to contract her as his escort to the social event of the season. It was the first time she stepped out not as a daughter, or a wife, but on the arm of a man of her own choosing and as a contracted Courtesan. After that night more offers came and she chose her contracts carefully, never accepting one that didn't keep her in the loop of the political world around her and building her influence with the men she bedded.

Some wives looked at her askance with dark gazes and some looked at her as a godsend, letting their husbands go to her to slake those lusts they, themselves, had no desire in participating in. As throughout history, the wives provided the heirs, while women like Mia provided companionship and true satisfaction.

Ambitions: Having come to enjoy her life, Mia has begun to grow a small stable of girls that she teaches and trains. She finds them young, pretty, malleable, and often from the poorer end of society so that their sudden wealth and luxury (and the means she gives them to keep them!) makes them loyal to her. A portion of their earnings goes into her own coffers for their upkeep until they are established enough to leave her care and another portion goes into accounts that they won't have access to until they are older and choose to leave the profession she's taught them. For all that some say she takes advantage of them, she also cares well for her girls, ensuring that even in the foolishness of their youth and the first flush of having real money of their own, that they will be cared for after she is gone and into their old age.

Her ambitions include growing her business and seeing herself and her girls, rising ever higher on the social spectrum. Ultimately she would find it a great coup to be able to place herself, or one of her girls, into the bed of the Caesar himself. As it is, she uses her time, her girls, and her own wiles to exert political influence behind the scenes and in ways most would never suspect.

political clout: She has more than most would expect of a Courtesan since people tend to forget their history and just how much influence a woman with a sharp mind and a willingness to bed those of station, can exert. Her girls are also her spies though they are otherwise entirely discreet, and more information filters through her "business" in just a few days time, than most spies could gather in a years time.

Political character

Name: Olivia Thorn
Gender: Female
Age:  30

Nation/Province: The Arabia and Israel
Occupation: Senator

Personality:  Olivia is a  well educated women and quick on her feet. Besides her looks she is known for her loyalty and honesty. She is a hard worker and is dedicate to Roman at least that is what she allows people to think. Like every dangerous woman she has a sweet smile and loving eyes that hide plenty of dark secrets.  There is very little anyone can do to make her anger but when she gets there well they want know it until it to late.

Background: Olivia was born in a little desert city deep in the Middle East. Her father was the Chieftain of the tribe and mother was of his many wives. The tribe openly practiced the old ways of Islam and because of that they were wiped out. Her Father and his wives were the first to be killed. Fallowed by the Man, women and children Olivia managed to escape in to the darkness with a few member of the tribe. She was only 7 when the events took place and has never forgotten it.

A few years after arriving in Persia she was adopted by a judge and his wife. She was there only child and they spoiled her. She got the best education and what ever she wanted her father would get it for her. As she was growing up she watched the Islamic religion  struggle to stay alive and from that she learn valuable life lesson. The more power you had just meant you could do whatever you like. She dedicated her young life to her education and to becoming powerful.

In her late twenties she became the first woman Governor for the Arabia and Israel province. She was  the only woman out of 45 male  candidates to suggest a   solution  to stop the uprising  of Muslim and Jewish students. After it was announced a raised in tuition for non catholic students. While her competition was to busy mocking her for being a woman and letting down their guards she slipped in under the raider offering a solution and ending a 3 day protest.  Most men never saw her as competition they thought a pretty woman like herself was only at court because she was ease on the eyes. So she used that as an advantage she did everything in her power from blackmailing to alliances with members of the royal family and even making a few silly promises.

As the Muslim faith started to gain the upper hand in the Middle Eastern Province She started secretly working with terrorist groups to restore the Islamic faith. She has even been working with a India’s ambassadors to come up with some type of peace treaty. Well that  what she wants every one to believe she is doing but really she is trying to gain India support in her battle for Islamic faith

Ambitions: Olivia ambitions includes restore the Islamic faith to its former glory. By separating the Middle East and Persia from the Roman Empire it would allowing it to become its own country like India and China.  She has been helping to establish major political leader who will lead the way to freedom and become the King of the  new United Middle East once it is established.  Maybe even becoming queen to the empire she worked so hard to free. But that is just some thing she as to accomplish later.

political clout:  Men are very weak creature it just takes the thought of spending the night with a pretty women to get him to swear alliances. She has Alliances with India and China. The favor of members of the royal family and members of court, senators, military officials, Ect. Sure the walls  have plenty of eyes and ears in the palace but none can compare to the pretty ones that share a bed with the Emperor himself. They are always so eager to tell everything if it meant that they had a change of becoming Empress.

It will be limited to Three threads plus OOC and CS I am hoping... I may expand if the game grows but I dont like too many.

Palace of Caesar- Where the majority of political intrigue, parties, wild scandal, debauchery and exchange will occur
Intimate knowledge- One on one for ensuring privacy, allowing sex far less risky than lets say doing it among the curtains of the palace or in the gardens >.< You can also consider this your end of the evening thread so both threads can be played at once. Since I will be closely managing rp movement in Palace but not IK.
Coliseum- This is for those secondary charries/NPCs/people who piss off Caesar will end up.

As for children? I will need to confirm with the empress PC if the player is still interested, but you can definitely play bastards and legitimate children, cousins. ETC

Thanks for getting back to me! How mnuch are we going to be responsible for our own plots? Will you be giving us plot prompts sp to speak or is it just all up to us to come up with things? I ask because I tend to flounder in games where there's no structure at all.

I like being involved since the emperor is going to be intentionally boring to play (Hopefully allowing me to play a charry later when my world begins to grow) So I will be running parties, Giving audiences to dignitaries (Easy to intro new charrys and bring them into the thick of things quickly) Will be running NPC scandals and sending PMs to charrys concerning info only they would know in an ability to play the political "game" so to speak.

I will also be running the Coliseum completely since that is at the beck and call of the emporer or those senators/royal family members rich enough to setup a game/death match etc.

I hope that answers your question adequately.

Also any NPC you (The player characters) need ill be providing his/her public info and post in OOC his goals and his wants and desires. You can than rp that NPC.
