My Masterpiece... (M/M - Bon, Ex?)

This idea is very vague, but something I would love to try out with anyone interested...

Essentially I'd want to follow the story of a budding artist, sculptor, engineer (you); someone whose job it is to be creative. They've been in a slump for months, were once in the middle of the public eye but have since faded into the background after numerous failures... They barricade themselves in their workroom and devote themselves entirely to create one piece that they can be proud of, one piece that no one else has ever done. Something that is alive, or as close to alive as a creation can be (me).

This could be through magic, through steampunk-esque science, or supernatural intervention. However it happens, over many months the struggling man manages to create something that moves, that can learn to talk and do things; a man-made person. Their masterpiece.

Depending on how its made, there could be a number of features... Example, if its a painted picture brought to life, it can't get wet or else the colour would run and it would need to be repaired. It would have very soft features and skin, so on...

If there was a steampunk element, it could have moving cogs and such that need tinkering with occasionally if it malfunctions.

If its magical, then the creator could try to add enchantments to somehow make it better...

Essentially, I'm looking for a more serious, more adult Pinnochio (sp?) story... The creator would need to show his masterpiece how to talk, how to do most things and present it to the public. Anything could happen here; depending on the personality of the creator it could be a nice, romantic story, or a tale of a 'person' being created solely to be used as a slave or servant... There's no limit to it, and I'd love to hear interest from anyone.
