"Great plan, Tom. Why didn't I think of that?" She rolled her eyes and sniffed, her sarcasm hanging in the air above her like a cloud. "We have to attack them before they finish building up whatever the hell it is that they are building... I mean it looks like they are preparing for WWIII. I don't know if my training has even covered that kind of disaster." She added, more to herself than to Tom.

"We don't have the men ready to attack," Tom replied. "Plus right now we have no idea what kind of threat we're dealing with. Something tells me Yuchi and Tyler will be able to fill in some of the gaps for us," he said. His walkie-talkie suddenly burst into life without warning.

"We're ready for you," Petra's said, catching even Tom offguard. "How far from the entrance are you?"

"Ten minutes," Tom replied. "We have wounded though, make sure there are medteams on hand for us."

"Dude, Tom. Loud enough for ya?" She growled before turning to Morrison. "Why is life so frustrating? Why can't it ever be a simple mission, like ever?" She continued to growl, the sound mimicked by her stomach. "Oops. Forgot to mention that I was hungry." She smiled sheepishly before hanging her head.

"We'll get you food when we get back to base," Tom said. Eventually they found their way to the tunnel entrance, walking out of the door to find themselves on an airfield where a large transport plane was waiting, Petra stood waiting for them.

"Get onboard," Petra said over the noise of the plane engines. "Good to see you again Scott," she said, flashing a smile to Tyler who blushed slightly.

"We have a problem," he said, recovering his composure. "Rajkovic is here, I know, I saw him with my own eyes."

"Wha-" The colour seemed to drain from Petra's face in an instant. "We need to get out of here now," she said, visibly shaken at the news from Tyler."C'mon, we don't have any time to waste."

"Ok, why is it that I have never heard of this guy? I swear I don't live under a rock.... so why haven't I hear of him ever?" She was quite confused, and the way that Petra reacted it was enough to spark her interest.

"Rajkovic is ex-Serbian military," Tyler replied. "I'd need access to my files to tell you the whole story, but this is the Serbian nationalist so extreme Milosevic himself begged Nato to come in and kill him for them. The bastard escaped the hit somehow though."

"Well obviously he isn't just going to lay down and die. I thought you said this guy made Snake look like an angel. In that case, either the guy in charge of the hit accidentally ran into the man before he had a chance to take him down... or the guy succeeded in shooting him or something. In that case he was able to recover. Quite a simple explanation if you ask me... But was he really that bad... Wow." She let out a long whistle, quite impressed with thought.

"Rape, murder, child abuse...and those were just the crimes he was resonsible for himself," Petra said as they climbed into the plane. "Snake is an evil sod but he at least has some morals, which is more than can be said for Rajkovic. He wants power, and he's not too bothered who he has to kill to get there. Like Tyler said though, we can brief you properly back at base."

"Interesting. So did the government filter out anything that might have reached both public ears and the ears of those in the military. Because now that I think about it, I really never have heard of this man. Obviously they thought him dead before I joined up, or he would have been a real threat I would have had to learn about."

"I can't account for what the US government thought had happened to him," Tyler said as the plane got up into the air. "But as far as Milosevic, MI6 and the FSB were concerned Rajkovic died 12 years ago during a firefight. I never bought the official line about him though."

"Wow, aren't we geniuses... Question is, who leaked that lie in the first place? Had he been injured, somebody else would have had to create a story like that while he was recovering. So the question is, who was that?"

"He had a body double," Tyler said with a grimace. "We killed someone, and at the time even I was convinced we had the right man. It was only years later I realised that for a man who had outthought half the Serbian army, several SAS units and more secret agents you can count his death had been far too simple. Almost as if he WANTED us to believe he was dead. We played straight into his hands."

"Lovely... so now we have to make up for that... which is like.... impossible. Is it not? Well, that's a great way to start a morning. With a hangover." She slapped her forehead to her palm and sighed. "For now, nobody talk to me... I need to think."

"Turk's shooting was no accident was it?" Petra asked, looking at Tyler. "They didn't just target him cos he knew where the hostages were, he was targeted cos he would know it was Rajkovic."

"They didn't know I was there in Serbia," Tyler replied. "As far as they were concerned your friend Turk is the only person on Tom's side to have met Rajkovic so yes, it was almost certainly an attempt to keep his identity hidden."

Sky just grunted before sitting back in her seat, pulling her knees up and resting her head in them. With a long sigh she shut her eyes and decided to just listen in, there wasn't much else she had to say and even less she wanted to say. So instead she pretended to fall asleep like that and just listen.

It wasn't long before the plane found its way to the base, which was packed full of troopswho seemed to be more on edge than they had done previously.

"Its time to move," Morrison said to Skylar, taking her hand. "I think we have a pleasant surprise waiting for us." Waiting on the runway, heavily bandaged but awake and smiling, was Turk, who Petra ran up to and hugged.

"Hey careful," he said, wincing. "I've not been out of my hospital bed that long, I'm still a bit sore."

Sky looked at Turk, a smile starting to form before she decided against it. Instead she ended up staring at the floor and blanking out her face. "Yes, quite a wonderful surprise... For all of you. I need to go get some rest, it's been a long day." Her voice was low, meant for only Morrison's ears. "Sorry I couldn't be a little more enthusiastic about it."

"I think we can wait at least until mroning to start planning," Tom said. "The hostages will need to be checked over by the medical teams and Tal will need to be debriefed."

"I'll help you find somewhere to sleep," Morrison said before realising how dodgy tht sounded. "I mean, if you want me to come with you."

"Thanks. I could use the company tonight." She sighed, still refusing to meet the eyes of anybody around her. "Come on. let's go." Sky said falling back to the edges of the group on her way out.

"Are you alright?" he asked as he took her hand, before pausing. "Sorry, that's a stupid question considering what happened. This Rajkovic must be a nasty piece of work though, Petra didn't react like that when she saw the state Turk was in."

"I'm perfectly fine." Her tone dropped like she was warning him to tread lightly with his words. "And yeah. Must be considering the reactions they all gave throughout the evening." Sky looked at him then back at the floor, a yawn expanding her lungs and escaping as a long sigh.

He stopped just as they were about to reach the sleeping quarters, deciding he had to tell her something now, scared what might be coming.

"When I saw you, after the accident..." he bit his lip for a moment. "I haven't been as scared as I was then, I don't want to lose you."

((Sorry for the slow response... I'm having a rough start to my week))

His comment managed to bring a smile to Sky's face, her eyes lighting up after being so glum for the past few hours. "Thanks, I needed that." She gave him a playful shove and fake glare. "But you do know that I'm not as fragile as I look. It will take a lot more than just an accident to take me down." She laughed a bit, but her face soon fell back to one of seriousness. "To be honest though, I was a bit frightened too. When I woke up, I had absolutely no idea where I was... I thought that perhaps who ever had shot Turk had come for me as well. I was about ready to kill you guys before I realized who you were. That's a feeling I wouldn't wish on any body. It really was scary, and you know what I thought? 'I hope Morrison forgives me'." She said, looking back to the floor, slightly embarrassed. "Trust me when I say that losing somebody to death is a far better mercy than to chase after something that you know you can't reach. I was afraid that you wouldn't forgive me and that I would be on my own again." She added, taking a few steps towards the sleeping quarters.

"I've lost someone to Firebrand before," he said. "Well, the guy wasn't in Firebrand at the time. Linklater, the ex-Navy SEAL who recognised me...there was a mission we were on. A hostage rescue deep behind enemy lines. The crook took a hostage, said if we didn't let him go he'd shoot the girl, who was...well, she was my fiancee. Linklater thought he had a clear shot, I knew he didn't and I even showed him he didn't and he fired anyway. I only discovered later he took the shot on purpose, out of jealousy of what I had with her. She was killed instantly, our target escaped into the night."

"That's a cowardly move he pulled off. Nobody should ever kill out of jealousy." She said, realizing why he cared so much. "I guess I was lucky that I wasn't their target, then. Do you think it was him who took the shot or just some hired hand?" She then asked, mind flashing back to the accident.
