VtM: The Anarch War [Interest Check]
« on: November 03, 2011, 10:10:48 PM »
The world is a cruel place, more often than none people bring themselves to the ultimate punishment, their deaths. However death does not have to be the end, at least not for a few people, some people call it luck while others call it curse but at the end of it, eternal life it’s just what you make of it. We are not here to talk to you about the father who beat her daughter to death, or the drunk driver who killed a innocent driver we are here to tell you about the other half. Those few souls that end up in the gutter, those few souls that never meet their ends. Those who died and woke up again this time different, with a new hunger…for blood.

It’s the year 2011, the vampire society has risen up ever since the old times, the Camarilla are at power with the Sabbat hiding, planning. However there is a sect among the Camarilla, they are called ‘The Anarch Movement’. These Anarch are planning under the radar of the Camarilla, embracing new vampires, those with a certain knowledge, technology. The Anarch want to take over the Camarilla, make it the true heaven for the vampires like they always said they would do. With the clans joining together under their believes they are becoming stronger and stronger at the back of the Camarilla.

However somebody talked, a vampire a servant of the Camarilla that was going under the radar in the Anarch Movement. That vampire was met with the ultimate death, now with the knowledge of what they were doing the Camarilla banishes the movement from their group, however they did not counted on something, they were getting stronger and stronger by each passing minute, the new idea of a vampire community that were not ruled by one but by council of vampires, one of each clan was too appealing to them.

With the Anarch growing and growing the Camarilla needs to find something to hold on so they begin to plan. The Sabbath also looking at the weakness of the longtime rivals they began to plan as well. A war it’s starting, three sides going at it. Who would win?

OOC:
My end goal here it's to play the three sides of the coin with different characters for each. However since we are starting I will like to fill out the Anarch Movement spots, for now I will allow only five spots.

From my understanding, this game will be using the 20th Anniversary rules for Vampire the Masquerade.  You can legally purchase a copy here http://rpg.drivethrustuff.com/product_info.php?products_id=94815

If you get a copy other than legally, don't mention it on the thread.

I found a copy around.  ::)

Anyway I would be happy to play one character, I don't like the Sabbat at all. Anyway the Anarchs includes all kinds so should be fun to play.

Count me in.

Clans that interest me are pretty broad and there are the Clanless as well.

While everyone is planning around, I would like to pitch the idea of pooling backgrounds.

If we all throw our points together, we could share a high level of Domain, Herd, Resources and perhaps even Allies, Contacts, Influence or Retainers.

I've had the idea of owning a nightclub and/or hotel for a while now.  It'd set up a central area for everyone and provide a good reason for everyone to get along, which would be awesome in and of itself.

Of course, that depends on if everyone else is interested, but I'll toss the idea and we'll see.

Is it really a good idea to put so many eggs in one basket the Anarchs are about to declare war on the Elders we can't win this by brute force, having a target to go after could be risky. Unless we are in an Anarch controlled city?

I love to roleplay backgrounds people, so I will leave a option for you to pick. If you wish to rp how you were embraced I will give you three bonus at the end of the small Im rp so you would have a total of 18 bonus points instead of 15

Okay big question are you allowing Anarchs from:

Independent Clans

Bloodlines

Sabbat Clans

Just asking if its an Anarch city who knows how many oddball, renegades and odd blood might be around to pay with so wanted to check.

Camarilla, Sabbath and independent. In short you can be any of the thirteen clans however you must provide reason to join the Anarch Movement in your background.

Bloodlines?

Some are attached to a clan and others not, excluding ones eliminated before the modern nights naturally.

Besides, we can always get insurance.

I would suggest 3 points into Domain (Size) to get a skyscraper.  That can have various apartments (or perhaps a hotel) and maybe offices and a nightclub for the bottom two or three floors.  Ideally Resources 5 for everyone to be able to afford it and that'll work out pretty well for us as well.  Herd of at least 3 for clubgoers and people who live at the apartments.  I could also see the bartender as a Contact and Retainers would be obvious enough.

It would also offer other vampires a place to frequent, a sort of communal haven for vampires who need it, jobs and so on.

Here's what I'm thinking for the layout, though if we do this communally, it won't just be up to me, so feel free to give suggestions:

The first floor is a lobby area for the hotel on one side, but the majority of the first floor is set up as the nightclub, with a dancing floor, a bar, waitresses, and so on.  The second floor is set up more as a balcony VIP idea: vampires only, but if you take someone up to romance them and discreetly feed, it's up to you to make sure they don't see or hear anything they shouldn't.

The third floor is more seductive, with exotic dancers and the like.  Floors four and five are short-term hotel rooms, paid for by the hour.

Floors six through ten are hotel rooms paid for by the day.  Some have windows to the outside, but many are fully inside the structure on all four sides and thus can't have any windows.  Vampires who want to use the place as a communal haven can shack up two to a room (or more if they like) but always get windowless rooms.  Rooms with windows are more expensive because they provide a view, and this will make it easier to explain why we have so many people not getting windows.

We can also get offices, apartments and the like in there if people want.  Skyscrapers generally have like a hundred floors, so trying to plan them all out would be crazy, but there's more than enough room to accommodate everyone.

OooK!

2 questions:

1. May we play vampire, who isn't a member of the anarchs? (But he/she may not be against them as well. Somewhere in the middle/neutral maybe with potential to join later)
2. I got the book, and it has 528 pages on it :-| Do I need to read it all to be able to participate? Or I may first read through some particular pages? (And I have played and finished the video game, Vampire: The masquerade couple of times, with different characters, though it was few years ago when I was still a child. So, I am somewhat familiar with setting, with things that I may forgot for now)

and... well, actually have third question: Do I have any chances to join, or better not, if I am not much familiar with systems?

I can try to teach people who aren't very familiar with the game but want to learn.  Just send me a PM giving me permission to talk to you on messenger, ideally Skype if you have it, but I'll take whatever.  My Skype name is ReverseCausality.  That's Causality, not Casualty.

For now I am only accepting anarch which in itself leaves it pretty open since the movement itself allows a lot of freedom to the vampire. You can be a Anarch just not too much into the activities of them.

of course you can join, this is a good experience for you to join so yea join up ^^ if you have any doubts Andy or Myself can help you out.

So I have a 20th edition book (500+ pages ugh) and I thought I would make a neonate having been embraced just 6 months ago and she'd still be a bit on the revolting side, and need to be 'guided' to respect the masquerade.

Elfguy a couple of things you should know. The side we are playing on it's the Anarch movement. There is no masquerade but they are enforced to not reveal their identity knowing what can happen. So you can call it a rebel group but with some traditions of the masquerade. Second, if your making a Neonate I would suggest you put one or two points in Mentor background just so your mentor it's around in case you need him/her. Do you have a yahoo messenger? also what clan were you planning to play.

I have MSN and GTalk..

I was thinking Toreador, basically a young 19 years old punk who ruled with her fist and cared more about sex than getting a job, who recently got embraced and now is trying to find her place in the Anarch, which she thinks is most like her own values, fighting against the 'establishment' regardless who that is.

I plan one dot in Domain it could be a penthouse since her resources are at 5 Dots so a really nice view should be something she can do. :)

I also took something in herd a bloodbound harem of pretties around the building as kept women and she has a bloodbound dog as a retainer.

Her status is nadda but she is a new arrival of no standing.

For fun I gave her a high manipulate attribute with a specialty mesmerize and added in Enchanting Voice and a bit elevated leadership so she is good at that, and will get better. Her concept is your classic Lover of Unlife she has a good academic base, lots of odd skills and a few talents think of it as a eclectic noblewoman sort of background. One goal for her is to add more abilities long term.

She supports the Anarchs since she lives in one of their cities but is not sure what she can do to help save give the Baron money for the cause from her large income for now.

I wanted to explain something quick before I went out.

Pooling backgrounds basically works that our chars know each other and work together, and that together we've been able to set up the entire skyscraper thing that I already mentioned.  This would let all our characters be rich, have a pretty nice hunting ground and so on.

So far Kristine and I are in, but if other people want in on the pooling deal, let me know.  If not, no worries as well.

I'm not sure she is a new arrival for the most part and (out of game knowledge she is 14th generation with infertile vitae as flaws) so likely would have moved in and chip in some money for security and the like. But is still her own vampire and right now getting settled in likely hasn't even met the Baron of the community yet.

I have the image in mind for the Baron, remember Anarch society it's different. A vampire will be in charge of the small town but he will answer to the big boy of the Anarch Society. I think I have a few candidates in mind for the Vampire leader in the town which she would have to meet at one point or another, it would not be as harsh as the camarilla but meeting him will be recommended since he can back up anybody in case of trouble.

She would likely show up the next time the Baron has a council or whatever they do and likely he knows she arrived and will obey the Masquerade, most likely through the other kindred in the building more established.

Bio:Not much to say she is from the Old Country and from a good family that fell hard moving into organized crime to maintain their high standard of living, and related to the Old Clan Tzimisce vampires of the region. She was seduced and embraced by a young vampire without permission to ,see if she could make a vampire, and it took kind of. The Grandsire and a few others hunted them she was able to leave for the West after a decade of hiding with her Sire who met Final Death being left in the sun which hurt but didn't kill her. After healing and recovering she made her way to the United States and ended up in the area mostly avoiding the Sabbat and the Camarilla was to domineering. The Anarchs seemed the faction least an issue although her generation came out and now the other neonates are generally "holier than thou" to her in the main and the older Kindred just assume she is harmless and well lumped in with the other youngsters.

From my understanding, this game will be using the 20th Anniversary rules for Vampire the Masquerade.  You can legally purchase a copy here http://rpg.drivethrustuff.com/product_info.php?products_id=94815

If you get a copy other than legally, don't mention it on the thread.

Curiously... While I don't have a copy of the 20th Anniversary rules, I do have some for the original versions of VtM before they decided to end it. How different is the 20th anniversary rules compared to the original?

One thing is languages are now a Merit not a Knowledge for example and they added all the published bloodlines and variants as far as I can tell as an example of some things.

Here's everything I've found so far:

Lasombra no longer take an extra health level from sunlight.

Potence gives dice of Strength unless you spend a blood point for the action, and then it gives successes.

Celerity gives dice of Dexterity unless you spend a blood point for the action, and then it gives extra actions.

Dodge is gone (they use Athletics the way Orpheus did) and replaced with Awareness.

Security is renamed Larceny.

Linguistics is gone (replaced with a 1 point merit) and replaced with Technology.

Vicissitude uses Medicine instead of Body Crafts.

Unbondable is now a 5 point merit.

Domain is now a merit, but rules are listed for pooling merits, basically allowing 5 people with one dot each to build some astonishing stuff.

I'm sure there's other stuff but I haven't found it all.

Okay made some changes her Sire was Old Clan Tzimisce but she is to thin in the blood to count being the weakest creature that is still technically a vampire, but had some small benefits for the drawbacks. It actually makes the Harmless merit fit better.

I think she should be fun to roleplay I added some flavor Merits mostly for roleplaying her she sleeps hard is basically from her mortal days one of those people that just is hard to wake up anyway, she needs corrective measures for her vision (glasses or contact lenses) having bad eye sight and has New Kid (is not new but figure she is 15th generation and it came out now no neonate npc's respect her that much). PC's may be different ...

Her disciplines are mostly from her Sire but she picked up Fortitude as one not taught in the parent clan, its basic survival sunlight can't kill her fast but fire, vampire bites, magic and such can and she doesn't heal that easily - she could but its a bitch to. So is padding her defenses instinctvely.

She might know some of the pc's from when she arrived in the United States, if any care to have some shared background.

If you're playing a Caitiff, wouldn't the disrespect associated with that just be part of the Clan Weakness, and not something to buy up extra because of New Kid?

Its the Anarchs how many are Caitiff are there that have no big limits due to weak blood? I rest my case.

She is not just a Caitiff she is barely a vampire, maybe above a Ghoul but still not by much.

And Caitiff have no clan weaknesses per se there are Caitiff with formidable skills and powers all they have to do is survive a 200 year old Caitiff is still an Elder in overall age and likely power plus at that point would be downright tough in the game so to speak. And any clan vampire would see her as not just a Caitiff but a weak vampire, a rank and file Brujah neonate that is 13th generation would get more respect. On the plus side its a small social drawback that will stay with her forever that is why I took it it fits her background and such.

I could call it something else it just fits her really.

I would like to throw my name in for interest.  I don't have a copy of the 20th anniversary edition, though I've heard about a number of the revisions that they've made...particularly the ones that mimicked some of my old house rules ^_^

A few questions come to mind, though.

A) How 'canon' is the game going to be?  ie. on a scale of 1 - 10 where 1 is "well, we use the same rules..." and 10 is "everything ever published will be used exactly as written and gods help you if you deviate one iota from what was said in volume III of the Giovanni chronicles!"  I've been yelled at before by players for deviating from materials published in the extensive oWoD books.

B) What sort of limits are you looking at for characters, particularly age wise?  I've played rather a lot of V:tM, ranging from neonates to elders and everything along the continuum in between, though not as much with the Anarchs...lots of Cam and some Sabbat, though.  I have no problem with new players needing an introduction/mentor, but would prefer to avoid such myself.  Starting at beginning points does put a crimp on age, though, as it doesn't make sense for an old vampire to have such limited points.  What do you see as reasonable limits for age?  (like, actual age, not the broken background Age..*twitch*)

C) Withing the frame of the previous question, how would you want to handle RPing the embrace?  Just setting it as so many years prior to current events?  Or would the charrie have to be a recent embrace to get those bonus points?  Would it be acceptable to write a detailed background for the bonus points?

I'll contemplate what sort of character I would want to play, though I may just do Yet Another Reboot of my old favorite...she's reset to 0 XP at least three other times before, so it's nothing new, but I may also find another charrie...we'll see.  Oh!  Another...

D)  Sort of tied into the canonicity question, Anarch Tremere?

I would say about a 3. It will be my own story of course and a few rules taken out from the game.

Setting the embrace whenever you wanted to be embraced we are just playing the background. And you would recieve it only if you rp it but who knows, if you give me a REALLY good embrace scene I might give the bonus points anyways.

I'd be interested in the skyscraper/apartment/etc idea...a lot would depend on how the character ended up, though.

I can try to help with things where necessary, but I'll admit up front I'm really not much of an ST.  I'm good at the mechanical side of things and throwing ideas around, and I like to think that I come up with good characters and backgrounds.  As far as actually running stories for other players, though?  That is where I am made of fail.

I'm in to play but like my current character, even with New Kid (like I said for her it fits the we don't care how old you get your barely a Lick so you can never expect much respect in our world flaw).

But its pretty basic really in format I don't see any further issues and I will note one can take a specialty in using a discipline class under an attribute or ability, she just has a knack for Dominate in the two ways manipulation is useful the vital dots one and two. Its just to bad she is not a proper vampire.

Well I can be a narrator if the help is needed Im more knowledge about lore and stuff and im decent at with normal social pulls and non discipline based combat im okay at running and since I was going to be running a more influence character it would be easier for me to sit in the backround when neccessary.

I will but might do a different character, depending on the setting. I like the Anarch controlled area but the war part seems far fetched the Camarilla is huge and the Sabbat would likely be a big threat while from what I read most so-called Anarchs simply don't like the rules of the other sects so opted for somthing more to their liking. The actual radical elements seem to be there but come on why mess up a good deal no Prince ordering us about on the one hand and the elders and on the other the Sabbat are just scary its the least of the three evils of Kindred politics.

Seriously the Camarilla accept the Anarchs as there likely keeps the malcontents who won't play the Camarilla game happy, they can do their own thing and at least they respect key Traditions and are not Sabbat - why would the sensible ones shake things up with a war?

I would probably be interested in it if you are going to be doing something with it,  I would have to see where things go of course and if I could come up with any concepts to fit with that.

I think if there was a war at all it would not be with the Camarilla, the Camarilla is the thing the Anarch's wish to change. I think if there was an actual war it would make more sense if it was not with the Camarilla at all but with the Sabbat or some other faction not necessarily Kindred.

I think it might be interesting to see an element of the Camarilla or Anarch's needing one another to fend of a threat that alone they might not handle so well, I think there could be a lot of intrigue involved in such and opportunity for both sides to try gain something from it.  With Camarilla Elders perhaps trying to fob the Anarch's off with nothing at all or false promises, perhaps even some element of some of the Camarilla turning on the Anarch's and not keeping there word.  Maybe the Camarilla's seeks to use the Anarch's as expendable means to deal with a problem, if they die don't need to worry about them anymore if the assist they can be fobbed of or ignored as it may be the case that the Prince or such might believe nobody will take note or care about them.

Possibly even after the "war" or problem is solved there would even be reason opportunity for further story from the same seed, with the Camarilla Kindred perhaps continuing to try manipulate and use the Anarch's.  Maybe there could be a struggle in the Anarch's themselves as factions and ideals in the group arise, perhaps with a split in support for the current Barron and some thinking that the Anarch's themselves have become impure or corrupt and as culpable as the things they seek to change.

I think there is lots of juicy elements that could be involved in an Anarch game, I can think of lots of things Id find interesting in such but it probably not worth me waffling on anymore hehe.

I am not sure what I would play yet really id have to consider that and see what you would and would not like to see in characters, although I think some form of idealist character who wants to protest change and debate such or a more active or devious one who is not so sure what she stands for a just a bit of a troublemaker/sheep wanting to stick her finger up to the "Cam". I have a lot of ideas I could use anyway I think but ill wait to see where things are going first.

Personally, I imagine something like this, although it'll be up to the ST:

The Anarchs control a specific area of the Camarilla-owned city, but the Sabbat have been attacking just that part.  However, the Camarilla wants to just let the Sabbat wear itself down on the Anarchs before they'll deal with it.  Therefore, as the more combatative of us are dealing with keeping our turf, the more social of us will likely be dealing with the Camarilla, trying to get more assistance and build enough cooperation to get rid of all the Sabbat.

Certainly there'd be a lot of places to go from there.
