IC
By now everyone knows the story...
The Arklay Mountains Outbreak was the first reported outbreak of the T-virus. And as horrifying and disastrous as that outbreak was, it was also unrelated to the later Raccoon City Outbreak which proved even worse in scope and consequences. If one follows the timeline leading up to both outbreaks they find that both events seem almost fated to have happened, with several examples of what appear to be the most unfortunate string of coincidences and accidents imaginable.
But what if these events were not fated? What if the events that took place in 1998 were simply the result of several coincidences? And what if one of these small, seemingly unimportant turning points in history were to change?
Then perhaps history itself would also change. But for the better? Or for the worse? Only time can tell...
OOCAlright...... This is my idea thread for a non-cannon game set in a slightly altered version of the Resident Evil universe. Now before you read any further you should know that when I say non-cannon I don't only mean that players will play non-cannon characters. I also mean that the actions taken by the players' characters can (and most likely will) alter the events of the history of a major event(s) within the Resident Evil universe. As for how that history is changed...that is entirely up to the characters' actions. SO basically I'm proposing a game that offers players the ability to actually have a 'real' effect on the course of events in Resident Evil history.
IF this concept is something that upsets you/violates everything you love about Resident Evil. You probably shouldn't join this game. BUT if you're like me and think this concept is quite intriguing, then please read a bit more, see if this game is for you. And if it in fact is, voice some interest by posting something along the lines of "I'm interested" in this thread(or by posting a character). AND as always any questions and/or comments are welcome!
The BasicsFirst off, I'll be going by the video game universe as opposed to the movie one. Simply because I grew up on the games and they to me are the true Resident Evil.
I've got a long term story, taking part over several chapters, in mind for this game. Each one of these chapters will cover a different major event in the history of the Resident Evil universe for instance the first chapter will cover the Mansion Incident. The exact make up/format of each chapter will most likely vary greatly from the next. Simply because each one will not only tell a different story, but a different
kind of story as well. Some chapters will be short, others will be long. With that in mind I'll be treating each chapter as a different game, with its own thread, that will be started once the previous chapter has finished.
For example, players who play in the first chapter will be more than welcome in the second, and if more characters are needed the recruitment thread will be re-opened for the 2nd chapter.
What You Can ExpectYou can expect everything that has made the Resident Evil game series a success, such as zombies, suspense, mystery, in depth stories and characters, and even puzzles that the players will have to solve using their characters. These puzzles may be very easy or very hard, but will not be game breaking and if the players get snagged anywhere along the line I'll be more than willing to give hints/answers...though running to the gm for help may have some IC consequences later on
Characters&NPCsI'm going to ask that player characters for all the chapters be 100% original, the can obviously be inspired by whoever you like but please don't simply carbon copy any cannon characters.
As far as NPCs go, players can expect to run into both original, and cannon characters.
The ChaptersChapter 1 The Mansion IncidentJuly 24, 1999, a number of grisly murders have taken place on the outskirts the Arklay Mountains and forest surrounding the Midwestern town of Raccoon City. Victims were attacked in their homes by a group of assailants with evidence of cannibalism. Baffled by the strange nature of the cases, the Raccoon City Police Department has sent in the S.T.A.R.S. Charlie team. Their mission was to investigate the mysterious events taking place near and in the woods.
All contact with the Charlie team has been lost. After two days of no with their compatriots, Alpha Team has been mobilized to find out what happened...
(The specifics of this chapter will be explained further below)
Chapter 2The Birkin SituationWilliam Birkin is a top biologist working for the Umbrella Corporation and is responsible for the discovery of the G-virus and development of the G-virus project. He was promoted in 1988 to lead the "t" project. He has recently completed his development of the G-virus and our sources tell us that he had previously planned on using his final research in order to be promoted into Umbrella's executive board.
However, a series of disagreements with his superiors have caused suspicion amongst the executive board that he plans on keeping his research to himself and selling it to the U.S. Government. One of our sources within the government informs us that he has requested to have the U.S. military intervene and retrieve him. This cannot be allowed...
(This game will be open to any and all players interested, will involve new player characters who did not take part in Chapter 1. Further specifics of this chapter will be revealed at the end of chapter 1)
Chapter 3The Raccoon City OutbreakSeptember 22, 1999. Another viral outbreak involving the t-virus has occurred. In the process of Umbrella's attempts to retrieve a sample of the G-virus from William Birkin vials containing the "G" and T-viruses were dropped, releasing them into the sewers. This led to the sewer rats to ingesting the virus and spreading them to the surface.
As of the 24th of September, the city is reported to be in total chaos. Requiring the US Army to attempt to stabilize the situation. Umbrella has dispatched their Umbrella Biohazard Countermeasure Service (UBCS) to assist the police, but in reality, Umbrella officials have called for an evacuation of the city, placing high priorities on key, essential members. With the aim of using the UBCS to insure that no important assets are lost.
(This game will be open to any and all players interested, and will be open to both new player characters and those previous characters who took part in Chapter 1. Further specifics of this chapter will be revealed at the end of chapter 2)
Chapter 4No Loose EndsSeptember 28th, 1999. The Umbrella Corporation, seeking to keep the Raccoon City Outbreak from being a complete and total loss has decided to use the chaos of the Raccoon City outbreak hunt down and kill anyone within Raccoon City who has proven to be a thorn in the corporation's side since the original Arklay Mountains outbreak. They have deployed several different forms of weapons and 'projects' to achieve this end while also collecting valuable research data.
(This game will be open to any and all players interested, and will be open to new player characters as well as any previous from Chapters 1,2 and 3 who have not yet exited Raccoon City. Further specifics of this chapter will be revealed at the end of chapter 3)
Chapter 5Rockfort Island SituationRockfort Island is an Umbrella owned and administered private island located somewhere south of the equator. Rockfort Island's main purpose is operating as both an illegal prison camp, which is currently holding several high value enemies of Umbrella who were captured during and after the Raccoon City outbreak, and para-military training facility for the corporation. Rockfort is administered by Alfred Ashford, whose father was a researcher for and whose grandfather a co-founder of Umbrella Inc. Besides the prison and training facility the island also features a small but lavish palace for hosting of dignitaries, a private residence for Alfred and his sister Alexia, and Several laboratories and B.O.W. storehouses.
So long as the Rockfort facility remains operational Umbrella's future is all but assured by their compiled research data and their large numbers of B.O.W.s ready for immediate sale. With this in mind an unnamed rival of Umbrella is currently preparing to launch an attack on the facility. Exactly who will take part in this attack, what their objectives are, and what effects their actions will have is currently unknown.
(This game will be open to any and all players interested, and will be open to new player characters as well as any previous from Chapters 1 and 3 who survived Raccoon City. Further specifics of this chapter will be revealed at the end of chapter 4)
Chapter 6In The Daylight/I The RainThe final chapter...the events of this chapter more than any will be decided by the accumulated actions, decisions, successes, and failures of the player characters through out the previous chapters. As such everything from it's title, to the exact make up of the game will remain a secret until it is time for the chapter to be set up.
The Mansion IncidentSpecificsIf you're still reading I'm assuming you're interested

. And if such is the case then here is what you'll need to take part in the first chapter of the game.
For this game I'm looking for between 3-6 other players to take on the roles of members of the S.T.A.R.S. Alpha Team who have been sent to locate Charlie team. It should be noted that the timeline for this game is slightly altered (taking place a year later than that of the actual cannon Resident Evil events). This is to allow a bit more plausibility for the small changes that I'll be needing to make to the Resident Evil universe (such as their being a 3rd S.T.A.R.S. team) in order to keep this game feeling 'new' and avoid it simply being a re-make of stories that have already been told.
Limited Freeform The game will be what I like to call limited freeform, this means that there will be no system used but there will be some limits placed on the character creation process (specifically on character's abilities and equipment) in order to maintain realism. In addition to this I ask that when players make posts relating to their interacting with NPCs/enemies they do not mod/control the world around their character. For example illustrating your character shooting at a zombie should go something like "my character shoots at the zombie, aiming for it's head' rather than "my character shoots at the zombie and hits it in the head." The reason I ask for this is that it will allow me (as gm) to control the action without having to bring in an actual system.

Skills (Explained a bit more below)
EquipmentI'm not going to make any solid limits on equipment and skills other than what follows.
As I'm sure you noticed if you've already read the character sheet, there are several sub-categories listed under the Equipment slot. This is to help illustrate the fact that the characters who will be played in this chapter are highly armed police officers. Each character is allowed 3 weapons at game start. The first is a primary weapon, such as a shotgun, automatic rifle, sniper rifle, ect. The second is a secondary weapon such as a pistol or revolver and the third is a hold out weapon such as a knife, stun gun, police baton, ect. All players need to fit their weapon choices into these categories.
Also listed under Equipment are your character's ammunition level and additional equipment. Additional equipment are things such as lock picking tools, first aid kits, ect. I ask that all players try to be as realistic as possible when deciding what extra equipment their characters will have, and also bear in mind that I reserve the right as GM to ask any player to alter their equipment or skills if I feel that their character is unrealistically powerful.
As far as ammunition level goes, this will be a representation of the level of ammunition your character has overall. It will be listed as either High, Moderate, Low, or Empty depending on your character's ammunition state. It is something that I will control and all you need to do for now is list it as "moderate"
SkillsThese are the things your character is good at/trained to do. Such as lock picking, first aid, tracking, piloting aircraft, ect. Once again I ask all players to simply follow the rules of realism when deciding their character's skills and to bear in mind that I will ask anyone who's character is unrealistically skilled to alter their list of skills.
