I was in the process of writing a short story for a someone and I asked another friend to take a look.

"The staff there all know me by name, I had never bothered to return the favour"

She said that quote pretty much summed up the entire character of my heroine.

“There is something about words. In expert hands, manipulated deftly, they take you prisoner. Wind themselves around your limbs like spider silk, and when you are so enthralled you cannot move, they pierce your skin, enter your blood, numb your thoughts. Inside you they work their magic.”

(Went looking for a quote thread and found one rather than remaking the wheel.)  ;)

Two favorites

This world is a comedy to those that think, a tragedy to those that feel.

~ Horace Walpole

Always take your work seriously - Never take yourself seriously. The first is imperative, the second is disastrous.

~ Unsure who to attribute this to (it wasn't original with me). I had it etched on a little wood thingie that I've had on my work table for years.

From the tv show Blackadder Goes Forth, a comedy about World War 1 and in this small extract from the last episode Captain Blackadder explained what started the war.

Captain Blackadder: You see, Baldrick, in order to prevent war in Europe, two superblocs developed: us, the French and the Russians on one side, and the Germans and Austro-Hungary on the other. The idea was to have two vast opposing armies, each acting as the other's deterrent. That way there could never be a war.
Private Baldrick: But, this is a sort of a war, isn't it, sir?
Captain Blackadder: Yes, that's right. You see, there was a tiny flaw in the plan.
Private Baldrick: What was that, sir?
Captain Blackadder: It was bollocks.

(I realize that, being UNAPPROVED, this is a little beyond PG-13, but I just had to >.<)

I absolutely loved Kevin Costner's delivery of this quote.
The verbal foreplay between him and Sarandon in this scene was phenomenal, making this one of my favorite quotes. EVER

"Crash: I don't believe in quantum physics when it comes to matters of the heart.
Annie: What do you believe in, then?
Crash: Well, I believe in the soul, the cock, the pussy, the small of a woman's back, the hanging curve ball, high fiber, good scotch, that the novels of Susan Sontag are self-indulgent, overrated crap. I believe Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone. I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing Astroturf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, soft, wet kisses that last three days." ~Bull Durham

-swoons- Me too, Crash, baby. Me too.
