Rom-Com idea
« on: April 17, 2011, 12:40:21 PM »
I'm doing a lot of grim stuff at the moment and it might be fun to do a bit of a 'romantic comedy' instead.
What I have in mind is a kind of miss matched WW2 romance - the difference being the characters:

She's a beautiful Russian - who happens to be a cold blooded sniper with 278 kills to her name, sent to the west to promote Western/Soviet relations:

He's her escort, a former guards officer, very polite, a real gentleman (basically very much like David Niven).

So instead of the rufty tuffty male hero and the delicate leading lady, we have a kind of role reversal.

There's quite a lot of mismatched humour, because she's never been anywhere like London before, and even bombed to shit it's a lot different to Russia. He's never met anyone quite like her before because - well, she's a rough edged Soviet who kills people without batting an eyelid.

If you have seen any 'period' movies like 'Gosford Park', you get the idea of what she's walking into. Also, I suppose, it's very much like the Greta Garbo film 'Ninochka'. Of course, his manners are far too good to point out that she shouldn't be cleaning her boots in the bathtub etc. And it's complicated by the fact that SMERSH have been sent to keep an eye on her, and the first sign that she is becoming too western, they have permission to eliminate her. But they are a bungling lot of idiots, so it won't be as easy as they think.

Sort of - "My Fair Lady" meets "Enemy at the Gates", by way of "One Fine Day."

And I think that's enough film references to be going on with...

If you've no takers I could sign on for bumbling sidekick duty. WW2 romance seems like quite the genre with my slow tread through Pynchon's Gravity's Rainbow dragging on. I don't know how well I can do the period or the gentleman justice but I've got my fair share of odd-couple scenarios, and the sniper dame sounds just priceless.

Oooops! :-[

I've got to be really honest and say I totally forgot this plot line was out there! At the moment, I'm snowed under with other RP's, so I think it would be difficult for me to take on another right now - I'd really be struggling to get responses out etc.

Many apologies,
