I...I don't even...

I have only righteous applause. Douchy move, but that's just magnificent.

that reminds me of a buddy showing off a while back.

He had some kid trying to get into his system. Somehow he backtracked the kid, put a text file in the middle of his desktop screen that said 'I think you need to learn to not rely on scripts before you try to hack me'. Then rebooted him.

Shaun used to stuff like that all the time.

That is truly awesome.  I do have a question, though: when he told Greg to tracert his IP address, how was he able to spoof Valve's IP?  Or did he give a false IP address?  Or was he just banking on Greg not really knowing what he was doing?

I've seen that one before. There's another amusing one where a script kiddie gets tricked into formating his own hard drives.

The last, probably. Picking out an MSN address isn't trivial, as MSN does not expose ip addresses in messages.

I can't help thinking if I were in rabbit's place I'd never have put my own Steam account at risk just to get some funny payback that way. x.x;

Douchey yet hilarious.

Though personally, I'm with Shjade. At this point 'Greg' basically has nothing to lose by going to Valve, unless there's something worse they can do than take away his account.
Of course, that relies on Greg being smart enough to realize that.

The whole point of this is that he isn't.  That's why it's funny.  Too stupid to run the scam, too stupid to even recognize the same scam being run on him.

I guess my worry would be, were I in rabbit's place, that the troll would at some point complain about it to a friend who WOULD be smart enough to point it out.

Also, in a semi-related vein... a case-study in why seeking advice from 4Chan is a terminally stupid idea.

Ouch.

I thought the initial post in that was bad, but the rest is like a train-wreck.

I needed a good laugh, but now my sides hurt...  I really doubt there's anything 'Greg' could do though.  For one, if impersonating a Valve employee and stealing an account can get you banned, well, he'd have to admit that he tried it first.  Also, most companies like that take the position of if you lose your account because you gave out your information it's your own stupid fault.

It is of course, like most such posts on 4chan, just a joke. The "kid" trying to fix his dad's computer isn't serious.

That makes me feel a little better about snickering, and especially the outburst when he showed the picture of the industrial magnet.
