BACKGROUND:
Gia was born in Milan, her mother a fashion model and her father a very wealthy American who made his fortune in advanced tech companies.  The two had met at a mutual friend's party and hit it off, getting married only a few months later and having Gia two years following their wedding.  Gia's father doted on her, showering the little girl with everything she could ever want, and treating her as if she were the most precious thing in his life.  When she was four, her mother (who had never been terribly maternal) ran off with her secret lover and left her daughter and husband without so much as a goodbye.

Gia's father, Raymond di Rossi, filed for divorce and then moved the two of them to his home in America, where he could be closer to his business.  From then on, the female influences in Gia's life came in the form of nannies and other household staff, as her father decided not to remarry.  He became even more devoted to his beloved daughter and the two of them became very close, a fact that remains true even now that Ray is in his mid-fifties and Gia is in her twenties.  Ray has always been Gia's biggest fan, encouraging her to pursue her dream of becoming a prima ballerina when she was quite young.  Over time, her dreams have changed, some by necessity (she just hasn't got the body type for a ballerina) and some out of simple growing up.

She graduated from her prestigious private school with decent grades and her father had only words of support for her decision to hold off attending university until after she had traveled for a year.  During her year off, she visited many countries, even staying in France for several months, and tracked down her mother to put to bed some old wounds.  The reconciliation was awkward, uncomfortable and solidified in Gia's mind that her mother had done the right thing in leaving.  The woman wasn't nearly warm or caring enough to be anyone's mother.  She learned French in Paris, where she had a wild, passionate fling with an artist whose paintings were utterly atrocious, but whose love-making was intense and adventurous.  He taught her to speak French and she provided him a muse that actually managed to take his work from awful to almost passable.

During her travels, she found a passion for the stage, having attended many, many plays and operas during her time in London, Venice and Berlin.  So, after returning home, she decided she wanted to become an actress, still seeking that fame and adoration that was denied her in the dance world.  Her love of dance, and her awareness of how well it went hand-in-hand with drama led her to double-major in the hopes of increasing her likelihood of eventually becoming internationally acclaimed.

She chose Raft because it was her father's alma mater and she liked the atmosphere.  The last two years she has been on the cheerleading squad and the girl's volleyball team, enjoying the applause and attention she gained from them.

FLAWS: (MINIMUM OF FIVE)

• Spoiled - Gia almost always gets her way, which has made her entitled and she often treats situations as if it's a foregone conclusion that she will eventually get what she wants.  This makes her very bad at such things as 'please and thank you', as well as recognizing the needs and wants of others.
• Impatient - Gia hates being forced to wait for things.  She likes instant gratification, and this makes her more likely to lose her cool or act up in instances when she is forced to cool her heels.
• Self-Involved - What, you mean everyone else's happiness isn't dependent upon Gia's happiness?  Could have fooled her.  Seriously, it's not even a conscious disregard for others, but a legitimate blind spot where they are concerned.  Her huffing and pouting over having to wait in line for a coffee doesn't mean she thinks she's better than the other people also waiting, just that they don't even cross her mind.
• Brat - When denied something she wants or forced to deal with a situation she doesn't want to deal with, Gia's behavior isn't what one would call...mature.  She's been known to pout, complain, huff, stomp her foot and even throw tantrums (see next flaw).
• Hot-Tempered - Gis isn't difficult to set off, and she doesn't hold back once she gets going.  While not generally violent, she still has a very sharp, vicious tongue and a keen insight into what will cause the most damage.  Her wit, while vicious, is quick and clever, which only makes things worse.

DESIRED PLOTS:

• Romance/Flings/FWB/Ect. - If you can handle her, I think she'd be fun to write in a variety of more romantic scenarios, especially if someone manages to tame the brat.
• Friends/Frenemies/Rivals/Ect. - These are always fun to navigate with a character that fails to recognize the importance of other people's feelings.  Still, with friends she is actually capable of being decent and caring, if still a bit selfish, and she gives the best catty passive-aggressive banter for potential rivals and frenemies.
• Growth/Maturation/Empathy - I'd love to play out Gia's arc over the course of the game, with various friends and romantic partner/s helping her to recognize those things about herself that she needs to work on, and begin to change for the better.

Rafael is the first generation Mexican-American, his parents emigrated during the '80s and worked to provide for their growing family. Rafael is the youngest of five siblings and the first to go to college, the rest of his siblings have opted to work for the growing business. The Reyes family runs a tow truck impound lot and scrap yard. Raf's father and eldest brother are the primary drivers,  Rafael's other brother became a mechanic who salvages vehicles, fixes and resells them. Raf's two sisters run the day to day operations while his mom is the primary caregiver for the growing brood of grandchildren.

Instilled with a strong work ethic from a young age, Rafael became heavily interested in electronics and mechanical work like the rest of the Reye's clan. Some of his favorite memories were spending long weekends with his brother in their crude shop rebuilding engines. He loves scanning swapmeets, pawnshops, and thrift stores for "gems" he takes home to restore, rebuild and resell online. In high school, he was the "phone guy" who could replace broken cell-phone screens, modify PlayStations and Xboxes and also provide "streaming" boxes to anyone who wanted to buy them.

Rafael is scared of leaving his family, flying out to the opposite side of the country for school was not done purposely. Raft engineering programs and wide collection obscure scholarships were the most compatible.

Piers has a mixed personality depending on the setting. In public, he is quiet but amenable, willing to go along with things but generally someone who keeps to himself. He isn't exactly shy but doesn't open up until he knows people. In private, he is dedicated to studying and focused on his side hobbies. That doesn't mean he isn't open to making friends. When he gets to know someone he can be quite the clown. Though generally trusting, he can be guarded especially about his personal love life. He'll talk about a lot of things but is good at dodging sensitive subjects that might open old wounds.

BACKGROUND:
Piers has a name that will irrevocably tie him to wealthy relatives that he has had little to nothing to do with. His grandfather is a big name in social circles at the political heart of Richmond, Virginia. And being the dreamer grandson of an equally disappointing son means that he stayed connected to his relatives only enough to feel their shame. A legacy of wanting acceptance but never quite reaching it was passed down from his dad. His home life was normal enough even if holiday get-togethers were tense. He did well in school but kept to himself as people in the community seemed to be waiting for him to fail. Coming out as gay in high school had almost been a relief for Piers because then his more traditional kin could finally write him off and leave him alone. About the same time is when he started hosting podcasts and posting online - giving him more attention and support than he could ever have dreamed of. Diving into social media acceptances hasn't been all likes. He has had a few emotional and social betrayals that caused him to pull back when sharing really personal things. He hopes that enrolling in a college so far from home will help him escape his family stigma and help him find the same success in his personal outside life that he has found online.

PERSONALITY:
Viv wears her character traits on her sleeve - silly/bratty, clumsy, hopelessly romantic, and so eager to belong. She will do anything for anyone she thinks is her friend but she might annoy the hell out of them in the process. The only place she truly feels like she has a handle on what she is supposed to do with her life is when she is working with numbers or sweating at the gym. She is a knot that has become impossibly tight from way too much struggling. She wants nothing more than someone to help her undo her crazy, mixed-up life. Her purple hair is a shield of sorts and Viv rarely goes a full month without touching up its color.

Vivian is a military brat from a large family. She is number five out of six children and has lived in at least six different states. She spent most of her high school years in a small town in Nevada before moving back to her birthplace in Massachusetts during her senior year. Now that her father retired and settled down, she picks Raft college out of the in-state options available to her. Moving around so much made her crave friendships but rarely trust them to last. Now in her second year of college, she is determined to find her place in a world that isn't constantly shifting.

This extends to his general social demeanour; he is always eager to please those he has decided are “Above” him, and delights in receiving rewards for his good behaviour. Whether that is simply an invite to a party or something far more intimate, it doesn't matter.

Arty, deep down, craves acceptance and validation and tends to take harsh criticism and denigration especially hard. This makes him especially easy prey for manipulative or abusive people, and he has suffered multiple abusive relationships in the past due to his pacifism and secretly low self esteem. It also factors into his wild partying and substance abuse; the need to escape his demons rather than fight them. However, as secretly broken as he is, he is not a quiet, wallflower wretch. He is always eager to party and when he makes friends, he makes them for life, remaining unfailingly loyal and devoted to their wellbeing come what may. Despite his acknowledgement of the necessity of his self defence classes, he is always hesitant to use them in any way. If he is around people he distrusts or actively fears, he will withdraw and attempt to evade notice, more comfortable with being ignored than initiating a conflict of some kind. He will never instigate a fight or argument himself; it goes against everything he believes to be the first one to escalate an altercation.

BACKGROUND:

Arty's father, Brandon, was - in a word - powerhungry. The Le Gautier name could be traced all the way back to Medieval France and the first French Lords to begin taking power away from the King, and Brandon was always of the opinion that their family should always strive to be more important and influential. Whilst not a lord, Brandon and his father and his father before him were all prominent and influential politicians, influencing policy decisions, swaying donors and managing campaigns. But that wasn't enough for Brandon; he needed his family to ascend. He needed his family to grow in power and influence, even to the point of potentially being the next president. For Brandon, the Le Gautier family had spent too long in the shadows; it was time for the Kingmakers to become the Kings. It was never a matter of ideals or wanting to make the world a better place; Brandon just loved power.

It didn't matter what that power was or where he held it, or even if he used it, just having it was enough. The more he gathered, the more he craved. The more he craved, the more vicious he became in its acquisition. Bribery, blackmail, espionage, sabotage...all of it was fair game to Brandon, and he used it with brutal efficacy. Brandon took his family from a background family in the shadows of politics to a major player within the Senate with a reputation for getting what he wanted, when he wanted, no matter what. Nothing was proven, of course, and he knew just how to exploit the people beneath him to retain his Senators chair.  And the only thing he wanted more than power? A son to share it with as heir to the Le Gautier line, to increase their power and one day perhaps even be President. So when Arty's mother announced that she was pregnant...Brandon was ecstatic.

Unfortunately, "Arturius" was not what his father had envisaged in a son.

Brandon was very much of the opinion that Might Made Right. He was the stereotypical manly man, large and powerful and accomplished in the arts of physical dominance, with a selfish, ruthless streak dedicated to getting what he wanted, when he wanted it. In Brandon's head, his son was going to be a continuation of the firm, iron will that dated back through the generations. His mother was more concerned with making certain her son was happy and free to follow his own heart, but she was far too scared of Brandon to do so openly. Brandon attempted to teach his son the proper disciplines for the Heir of Le Gautier, but almost none of it stuck. It might have been his mothers soothing influence, it might have been unconscious rebellion, or it might just have been that that was not who Arturius was, but as he grew up, it became ever more apparent that he was not like his father in any way, shape or form, and his tastes always leaned far too much towards the “Feminine” for his father. Barely a day went by when Arturius was not being verbally abused by his father, denigrated and emasculated and insulted for not being “worthy” of carrying the Le Gautier name.

The day his father caught 5-year-old Arturius frowning over a sewing kit was the day the abuse escalated to the physical.

For the next seven years, Arturius endured daily physical abuse at the hands of his father, barely a word passing without a backhanded clip to the face, or a rough throw to the ground, or a kick to the stomach as he curled up to try to protect himself. His father had always had a temper, but now that he could see that his son was far more feminine than even he had suspected, there was nothing holding him back. What made it worse was that his son didn't seem to care about power and influence. He was flighty, flickering from one passion to the next, more interested in satisfying his own momentary whims than gathering authority and influence, which enraged him still further. If his son wasn't going to share in that lust for power, then he was just another person to exercise that power over. Abuse was just a different manifestation of control and power, after all, and Brandon had always gotten off on crushing the people beneath him under his heel. Of course, Arty's mother Elleanor was another part of the problem with how she coddled Arty, so Brandon cowed her, too, into increased submission with escalating levels of abuse.

But it did not help. As Arturius grew older, he began to find himself. Singing, dancing, sewing, music and art, little acts of mischief and trickery...they all brought him happiness during the dark days of abuse, even escalating into him realising just how much he loved wearing womens clothing, how good he felt about himself in a sea of darkness and self loathing when he looked in the mirror and saw how pretty he looked. Seeing his natural form, the person he was beneath it all looking so beautiful and elegant...it was freeing. All that he wanted to be was who he was inside; a boy who just so happened to be beautiful rather than rugged. Cute rather than handsome. Dainty and soft rather than hard and rippling. Was that so wrong? According to Brandon...yes. He didn't like that. Arturius was unlucky enough that his father soon found out about his predilection for feminine fashion – having walked in on Arturius trying on a new dress that his mother had secretly bought him, pretending that it was for her instead – and proceeded to beat him more savagely than he ever had before, putting Arturius in real danger of actual death.

But there was a bright, silver lining through this savage beating; his mother soon came home, saw Arturious beaten and bloody and broken in bed, and immediately took action. She'd had enough of her husband, and – taking Arturius and a suitcase of clothes – immediately fled to the hospital, calling the police to report Brandon. Whilst he had never left a mark before, Elleanor had been slowly accumulating evidence – hidden recordings, photographs of the aftermath of his temper – and with the obvious beating Arturius had received along with the DNA evidence and testimony from their hired help, Brandon was convicted of marital abuse, child abuse, assault and battery, spousal rape and attempted murder, along other more minor charges. He was sentenced to ten years in prison - it would have been longer, but Brandon's political influence and wealth reduced it, along with being stripped of parental rights and the right to run for political office. Elleanor contacted some of her friends in the government and got her and Arturius new names and identities, their records sealed and their survival covered up. It took all of the favours she still had, but she managed to make them disappear and moved them to a small suburban neighbourhood in New York State, just outside the city.

Following these events and his recovery, Arty really began to try to come out of his shell, throwing himself into social interactions with a vengeance, quickly and easily making new friends and branching out to experience all of the things that he'd never been able to before, quickly finding a passion and talent for drama and fashion, especially design and textiles, along with a love of dancing, singing and enjoying musical theatre. Being new to the area, he was also able to dress however he wanted with nobody but his closest friends knowing that he was actually male, for the first time in his life finding a routine where...he was actually happy. A few years later, Arty earned his place in Raft College for Fashion Design – under his new name, of course - and he jumped at the chance to pursue  properly without the cruel hand of his father beating him down every time he tried. Now entering his second year, he eagerly looks forward to what he will learn and experience but he feels a dark spectre stretching over his year; he has heard whispers that his father is up for parole, somehow, and might just be released early. Arty might have a new name and identity, but his father is a determined, resourceful man. He can't help but feel worried about what might happen if Brandon manages to find him and his mother...

Olivia grew up in the suffocating comfort of Pacific Heights, San Francisco (CA) with her parents Mark – a renowned attorney specialized in business law – and Angela Stones, who dropped a promising career as a researcher in psychology to become a housewife. The Stones never lacked for nothing, even in those times when Olivia was still a little girl and her father Mark was just a trainee in the law firm his father Richard – Olivia’s grandfather – owned. Throughout Olivia’s upbringing, all her parents asked of her was to fit in the mould, that is, to try as hard as she could to be the perfect daughter of a supposedly perfect family, and they both put a lot of effort into making sure Olivia would stay away from trouble and focus on studying.

Her high school was not one where social mix was particularly encouraged. In fact, most of the kids in her school came from well-off families just like hers, which meant Olivia had little chances of experiencing what the so-called “real world” was like. She was well-aware of living in a bubble and, as comfortable as it was, it nonetheless remained a bubble. Wishing to flee from California, upon finishing high school – and much to her parents’ disappointment, who hoped their daughter would study in LA – she decided to apply for a scholarship at Raft College.

Her summer before moving to the East Coast was one of discovery. First, she accidentally eavesdropped a phone call and found out her dad was having an affair with a colleague.
