(Yes, there is a book by Stephen King, "The Tommyknockers", but I was actually referring to the spirits that hung around old gold mines, who use to aggravate the miners by blowing their candles out and knocking their hats off, etc. but they would also knock on the walls before a cave-in, so if a miner heard the knocking, they knew to get out of there quick!  I just watched a documentary on mines......anywho...)
