Because it IS a Caribbean based game, I'm going to assume anyone at Athletics x2 or higher is a proficient SCUBA diver.  There's also a Navigation skill, which is an active skill, and very important for sea captains.  Most modern ships don't have a lot of requirements in knot tying, but someone with high piloting can choose to be familiar with older vessels as well.  Piloting is the appropriate skill for an experienced sailor/sea captain.

Question - would players prefer I have the piloting skill be specialized?  At least broadly into 'land, sea, air?'  or would you prefer it be a single skill and those with a lot of skill handling vehicles are considered fluent in multiple types?  Realism suggests the former, simplicity prefers the latter.

I am leaning toward a Board based [land, sea, air] maybe allow one specility or the merit to do a lot more. I would suggest a 1 point merit that allows boarder knowledge in a specific vehicle. ie.- Pilot Land 2 merit motorcycles allowing the 2 to be used for repair and other aspects.

I have my piloting skill as Pilot Watercraft.

I also have Navigation

And yes I would think Athletics would cover Diving.

Seems you also have an idea for a boat captain!

Ciosa has asked that I help with equipment.  I will look into decks and programs.  Lunar and Josi’s original prices were generally low so the main book prices need to be adapted.

Phaia - Signature item does this for 2 pt merit

Yep look back at my original concept post.  :). More a loner small smuggler kind using a trimaran.

Initial character concept: a dwarf mechanic-slash-cybersurgeon, who can fix damn near anythin'.

And who fookin' loves guns.

Ciosa

As a note - the equipment section is currently copied and pasted over.  I haven't gone through it yet, but I will, I was just initially focusing on the core character areas with the awareness the financials would take a lot longer.  Also, I'm probably not doing them today.  XD

At present, my current plan is to start the thread and active posting on Friday the 14th.  (I fly this monday, return Thursday, and dont' want to commit to start during a week I work.  For those who don't know, I'm a contractor - I work usually two weeks a month, sometimes more, sometimes less.  I don't have as much time to post during work weeks.)

So I'll be spending this weekend expanding the character creation section, and getting up pages about TCL, and the major players and settlements within it.  I don't want to go crazy with the number of threads at start - right now I'm thinking an OOC chatter, a Character blurb thread (Which will not be the entire sheet!) and 2-3 locations along with a matrix thread.

On another note - if multiple people buy the same contact - like, say Dhi and Crash and Phaia all buy an 'Infantry Grunt' or a 'Bartender', their points will combine on that contact and increase their effective value.  So a one point contact effectively becomes a three point contact, even if they still fulfill the same basic function.  That infantry grunt?  He probably now is in charge of the armory on his base.  Or works as personal security for a colonel.  And the bartender suddenly owns and operates one of the most popular bars on the Libertalia.

Bibliophilia

My current idea is for a freelance runner who does wetwork for corps.  I'm thinking Aztechnology was the corporation who got her into the business, since they're a major player in London, where she was born.

I'm still brushing up on the info I need to flesh out her backstory, but I'm thinking prior to running she was military, yada yada yada, dishonorable discharge (if that's a thing still), and now she's a mercenary with only a few stipulations, but those few are hard and fast, no amount of Nuyen can get her to budge on them.

;D
My Pc will only have 2 contacts so this works great. I would love to work with others for this!

Ahh okay my idea was for a an Island guide/boat captain that knows the crib and the islands in her sleep!

I don't see any corp contacts, so consider my five points yours to play with.

The given list is just a guideline.  A Mr. Johnson usually ranges from x2 to x4, and I'd assume other people within a corporation have a similar range.  They can either be powerful within a smaller mom and pop corp, or mid level management in a big corp.  (x2)  A VP in one of the big ten is a x4, easily.

Let me reserve a x3 then, and donate x2 to our group.

I am happy to donate the 2 my PC should have to a group pool as well.
Heck maybe Ciaso will allow more one group contact!?

I am taking a retired shadow runner and semi retired pirate.

More than one is acceptable.

It would be easier to have a distinctive niche with the different skills. That would also give a reason for characters to seek out other characters if, say, a pirate needs a wheel man or a hot pilot.

I'll put a point in each. Phaia, do you want to get in on this?

Suggestions:
Flaws

Dependent -- Your taking care of someone.
Phobia 1-4 points. -- What you are scared of the ocean? Are you alright?

Merits: 1 point
Low light vision
Better Hearing
Read lips

Merits : 1-4 points
Customized equipment: Work with GM for a special built piece of equipment that gives some better aspects.
Each Merit point improves one aspect of ONE Item. [up to 4 improvements. Each improvement increases cost of item: Example Custom Fitted light Armor [merit 2]  -only fits your PC and gives AR 4 [must be paid for as well]; Custom pistol --Improve CR1 [merit 1]

Cool.

Fabiola was/is Breezy (Windeline)’s mentor in the Shadows and Breezy owes her a debt.

Yeah, I'll accept that argument.  Okay, piloting skills will need to differentiate between aircraft, watercraft, or ground vehicles.  You don't need to be more specialized than that - no fixed wing or bikes or hydrofoils.  Adaptability is a key trait for runners, and they learn the basics of other vehicles even if they have a preference for one.

Your merit for distinctive (object) covers the narrow specialization.  I did that with Windeline’s boat.

My own contact is going to be x3 in Lafuente Chemical, analogous to L'Oreal or LVMH. If you want a corp contact, I can share, but it's a middling tier pharmaceutical/cosmetics corp so it may well not make any sense for you.

Low light vision - no.  Same with better hearing.  They can be acquired through cybernetics or adept abilities, and I'd like to make those signature abilities something that requires a conscious choice in character creation.

Reading lips - that strikes me as a skill, and I'll say it's something easy enough for anyone with stealth 2, or negotiation 2.

Custom equipment:  I'm not willing to do a full merit for this.  There's already a 'signature xxx' which is available.  High value customizations on pistols, swords and the like should be permissable.  If you double the base price of any piece of equipment, it will have +1 to its value.  x5, it will be +2, and x10, it will be +3.

Contacts who are specialists in acquisitions of specific goods will be able to acquire these once game begins as well.  You don't need to have them in your current contacts list in order to get them.  But a contact who is a weaponsmith, for example, can provide any weapon on the guns list at contact level 1.  At level two, they can provide the 'premium stock,' giving +1, contact level three has state of the art firearms, and a contact level four is a connected, upper level dealer who only works with an exclusive clientele and it probably took some serious work just to get on their customer list.
