Hey all....

Guess what, mentors are useful for something! To explain, I asked mine for some advice and she suggested I do this!

See, I really enjoyed the approval process. It wasn't anywhere near as embarrassing or stressful as I thought it would be. Which is one of the reasons I'm still hanging around the public areas like the Doormat, and asking newcomers silly questions.

But the point is, they can't ask me any back. Plus of course there are some great questions asked of them that I would love a chance to answer too...

SO. The purpose of this thread is to let anyone who wants to do so continue to ask me silly questions or give me writing prompts.

This includes unapproved members too, which is why it's here rather than in the socialising section.

So, fire away, but be aware that I reserve the right not to answer any that I consider inappropriate in any way... Also, I would appreciate it if you could observe the same rules regarding unanswered questions as for new members - except I'm happy to have maybe half a dozen waiting as long as they are from different people!

Please check out my latest A/A post.

Ok, Chrystal...*rubs her hands together gleefully* here you go!

Begin a story with this mixed proverb: Revenge is bliss.

(Unless you REALLY WANT the paper/shredder one...if so, I'll ask that one next time! lol)
And don't worry, I have LOTS more where that came from ;) hehehe...

*Finally getting around to these - Day off work today so I have time*

"Revenge is Bliss" Chrissie said as she pulled the trigger. The shot echoed up and down the filthy back alley and bullet shattered the man's knee-cap and he collapsed in agony. "You weren't expecting to see me again, were you, Mr Octagon." A second bullet ploughed through the man's crotch.

She smiled, leaving the gangster rolling on the ground in agony and rapidly bleeding to death, between the corpses of his body guards. Turned on her heel and walked to the waiting motorbike. She flicked her long ginger hair out of her face and pulled on the crash helmet, climbing up behind her lover. Her arms around the girls waist, and she yelled over the roar of the engine "Let's get the hell out of here!"

The back tyre squealed as the bike pulled away on the dark, damp street. One more low-life scum was off the streets along with two of his henchmen. Christine Bliss took her role as a vigilante seriously. Sure it had it's risks, like getting raped by such monsters as Octagon, but it had it's rewards too.

Soon enough she and her girlfriend were at their apartment. "So, my sweetheart, who's next?"

*Hmmmm...... That has SERIOUS RP possibilities! Anyone interested in playing a villainous slime ball who gets whacked by my new anti-heroine vigelante? Anyone care to play her side-kick?*

Enough with the special effects already! *coughs*  ;)

Yeah... Chrystal Dark herself. She is so seriously smexy. She's about as athletic as it is possible to get and stay female - she has absolutely no taboos. She's a pole-dancer/stripper in the evening and at night she robs people's houses, for fun! She's also a killer, but not cold-blooded.

And she's got a TAIL!

Oh, and did I mention, she's sexy?

Oh I'd definitely be a villain. And I don't really see any need to change from being Chrystal Dark. Purrrrfectly good name for a super villain.

*giggles* How would I know? How would they disseminate the knowledge?

But what I would do is, quite frankly, join the resistance. All technology is outlawed? They can't possibly win. They are using bows and arrows against machine guns. They are communicating by carrier pigeon, writing notes on scraps of cloth with pens made from feathers and ink made from berry juice. We are communicating with radios.

They are looking for us with their eyes, we are watching for them with thermal imaging and radar.

I think the revolution would be over very quickly!

The shadow tilted to the right .....

See what you've done? You've made all my text purple!

The shadow tilted to the right and Garibaldi eased his Starfury into a tight turn. "You don't get away from me, that easy" He mumbled. These shadow cruisers were slipery customers and since the start of the war the Earth Alliance Forces had only destroyed two or three. Garibaldi was determined not to let this one get away. The remainder of his wing followed him, Suddenly the shadow pulled a sneaky course reversal, sliding away to the left and down. "Bugger!" Garibaldi exclaimed over open com "He's heading for the jump gate. Gold wing, cut him off.

The shadow cruiser was big enough to make it's own jump portal, so it's only purpose in heading for the gate had to be to destroy it and leave Garibaldi's Starfury squadron stranded, light-years away from Babylon 5. Gold wing closed on the Shadow from the far side. Garibaldy fired his cannon at the back of the black, shimmering craft, unable to get a lock, but hoping for a lucky hit. The others in his wing followed, and Gold wing opened fire too. The shadow breazed through them as if they, or it, weren't there. The Gold wing Starfuries braked and rolled over, joining Garibaldi's Blue Wing in formation. "Damnit, we've got to get to the gate first or..."

A jump point opened, along side the gate, not in it. "What the...?" Garibaldi exclaimed. And then the ominous yet strangely welcome sight of a Vorlon battle cruiser shot out of hyperspace, directly into the shadow's path. "Break, break" Garibaldi yelled into com and the two wings of starfuries spread themselves wide. The vorlon fired and the shadow cruiser flared into light and disappeared. Com crackled with the EMP, and was silent.

:-) *raises hand. "I have one!" Of course, after you've read this, you would know that I'm a complete math geek... :P

There are different patterns all around us. The tiles on the floor, the drapes or curtains, music and songs all contain patterns. The seasons, nature, and life all contain their own rhythm and pattern. Logic, thoughts, science have many patterns also. One of my personal favorite patterns lies within a mathematical function, the Fibonacci sequence. Essentially, it starts 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13 etc. (each following number is the sum of the previous two numbers). This pattern appeals to me because it is so simple, and yet it applies to vast complex domains of mathematics involving game theory, probability theory (random walk), geometry, and so much more. Another pattern I like involves the yin-yang symbol, it's meaning setting a pattern for the nature of life. Such is the case that not everything is black or white, but rather we can see again and again that there are shades of gray, many sides to the same story, truth in lies and lies in truth.

What is a pattern that you find fascinating or revealing?
1. "The only way to get rid of a temptation is to yield to it."- Oscar Wilde
2. "Men are like steel. when they lose their temper, they lose their worth." :-)
- Chuck Norris
3. "Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake."
- Napoleon Bonaparte
4. "A word to the wise isn't necessary."
5. And finally..."I can write better than anybody who can write faster, and I can write faster than anybody who can write better."

Who says reincarnation is a myth? I remember by first life as a human, vaguely. I remember dyeing, my conciousness hovering above the earth where my corpse lay decomposing in the forrest where I fell. I remember the pine cone falling into the fertile earth and my conciousness homing in on it.

I remember wondering if this was just me or if this happened to everyone. I remember curling my roots into the good earth and stretching myself towards the sky. I remember the feeling of squirrels nesting in my branches, and of dropping my own young, my pine cones, my children, into the tender mercies of fate.

I remember the men coming and the pain as they cut me down and I died again. Yet I didn't die. My conciousness remained with my corpse as it was transported to a lumber mill and turned into boxes of good, crisp white paper. I settled on one box, that was loaded into a van and delivered to a warehouse. I remember watching the people come and go, the spiders and insects in their daily struggle for supremacy, and finally I was loaded onto another van and taken to an office.

Here I was opened. A sensation like surgery. I was parted from myself and loaded, bit by bit into a printer.

I remember the feeling as the laser scorched toner into me and I became a financial report.  I remember the joy of being read and examined and commented on. The tickle as biros and pencils scribbled on the many pages of my multiple copies. Then I remember the sadness as I was filed away in a box. Lost and forgotten, it seemed, never to see the light of day again.

As a tree, years had past like minutes, but in this dark cupboard, the time has dragged by. Five years!

But now, it seems, I am to be reincarnated once again. The blades of the shredder whirr and grind as they dismember other documents as old as I. Who knows, some mat even have been part of me at some point in the past. I have no way of knowing. But I welcome the end to this boredom. I welcome the whirling metal death. It will hurt, I know. Every one of my various deaths has hurt. But I grow used to it. I look forward with anticipation to see what (other than a sack of shredded paper) I will become this time.

Amazingly enough, I do not believe in reincarnation! I'm glad you enjoyed it.

I really must find time to ask some more questions of some more newbies. It's wonderful when you get someone really talented answer a prompt, and you think, "This one needs to get approved so I can RP with them!"

*chuckles* I just wondered... Did you think something like that about me? Cos I know I answered at least one of your questions...

*chuckles* well, one certainly does not have to believe in something to write about it convincingly, eh? ;)

Asking questions of the new members is fun & I enjoy it very much. I especially like when they ask for prompts, b/c then I get to see what they can come up with. As you've probably noticed, I like my sock story prompt a lot ;D hehe...And yes, it's fairly common to think, "Wow! That was awesome, I hope they get approved so I can RP with them!" haha...For me, it is difficult b/c my dance card is pretty jam packed at the moment. But, if I really like the person, and they get approved, I usually add them to my buddy list for later ;) hehe...

You did answer one of my questions, though I don't think I gave you a prompt. If someone has a prompt waiting, I tend to opt for a question so they don't feel overwhelmed :P But, yes, I was impressed with your writing style, for sure. Hence, writing with you now ;)

<lobs a writing prompt in her general direction>

Tell me a story, from the perspective of a mad scientist's....pet hamster!

*giggles* These are great for passing the time when everyone else is at work or in bed.

This cage is not my usual one. It smells differently. The human that feeds me must have moved me during the day while I slept. I can see her there, in her white coat, doing something. She has her back to me, and I can hear her humming cheerfully to herself. She turns, and pushes her thick rimmed glasses back up her nose.

Her face, to me, is actually attractive, but then, I'm a hamster. I like big teeth, small noses and big ears. There is a loud pop and a cloud of purple smoke. ((but no sudden appearance by Aviva)) The human coughs and waves it away, cursing loudly. She bends over her work and mutters something, then looks up and shouts "Eurika!" I have no idea what that means, but she seems to be happy, judging from the crazy little dance she is now doing. She picks up something that looks like a small dish, and walks towards my cage.

I squeak happily at her, and she coos softly to me. "Hello, my pretty little hammy. Are you hungry? Mummy has something extra-special for you to eat today." The words mean nothing to me, except hammy and hungry. Those two I recognise. One I associate with her talkning to me - it must be what she calls me. The other I associate with the arrival of food. Yes, I am hungry, and I squeak again to let her know this. There seems to be some sort of food on the dish she carries. It certainly smells good.

She opens the cage and lifts me out. This human I trust and I sit calmly in her hand as she carries me to the floor, where I jump off her palm and sit up, sniffing the air, trying to find the food she promised me. She lowers the plate, placing it right in front of me. The food is a weird pink colour, but it is still grain, and I tuck in, hungrily.

I don't notice the human step back, watching me curiously. I do notice a rather weird feeling in my tummy. A churning and gurgling and swelling, that seems to spread to the rest of me. The dish with the few remaining pink grains moves suddenly away. No, it gets smaller. Everything gets smaller.

Or... no, I am getting bigger. I look down at myself. I have never been able to look at my own body before, I've never been aware of my body before. Suddenly I am. I sit on my bottom with a bump, as my back legs grow enormously long and my front legs stretch and change shape. My fur seems to have stayed the same, though and has congregated into a small patch between my back legs. Except for the top of my head, where it has grown long and sleek. My chest changes too. Two bumps appear on it, swelling and growing. soon my chest is the same shape as the human's, only slightly bigger. I shake my head and look up at the human. She looks down and offers me a hand. I extend my foreleg and notice that I, too have hands. The human helps me to my feet and smiles.

"Hello, Hammy". She says, and for the first time I understand her.

"Hello...?" I reply, carefully

My mistress looks me up and down and smiles, a strange smile that I don't quite understand. "Oh well, I never could sex hamsters properly. I thought you were a boy. Never mind, I'll manage." With that she takes my hand and leads me....

And there we must leave it as this is a PG13 area!

Finally getting around to these. (Again)

First of all, Goober, congrats again on your approval. I too am a bit of a maths geek, but not quite as bad as you it seems ;)

Patterns. Patterns fascinate me. I'm pretty sure I have something known as Asperger's syndrome, which is a mild form of autism (self diagnosed, which is why I can't say for certain). One of the symptoms is an over active imagination and an ability to see patterns where there are none, or at least where other people can't.

The patterns I find most fascinating are actually random (or seemingly random) patterns of dots, of the sort you find in a plain, mottled carpet weave, or an old style CRT TV that is disconnected from it's input. I have spent many fascinated minutes staring at carpets (usually on bathroom floors...!) seeing what interesting images will leap out at me. One time I actually saw a picture of a mouse riding an arrow that had been fired through woodland! A very strange image indeed and one so unusual and vivid that I actually drew it on paper!

I see shapes and faces and animals in random patterns. Magic Eye fascinates me too. It took me ages to actually learn how to see them, but then one evening after trying to stare through this damn thing for hours, I took my glasses off, rubbed my eyes, glanced at the book and there it was!

But the idea that such subtle variations in a repeat pattern can create a 3-d image is an amazing one.

Sorry it has taken me so long to answer this.

Lovely writing even if it does aye gives away your geek level.

One from D&D so to speak.

If you could be a Dungeon Master and create your own world, what would you create ?

Geek level meters explode when I'm around!

D&D is something I played a LOOOOONG time ago. If I could find a bunch of people my age and geekiness to play with, I might take it up again.

But, ahhh.... isn't creating our own worlds what this forum is all about? You, my dear, are already in one of them - albeit more "traveller" than D&D.

However, if we are talking about a fantasy setting rather than a sci-fi one, I will recreate for you a RP setting that I created for a RP in another forum:

A sleepy village lies in a valley, in a world where magic is common. On the hill above the village, tower stands. It's vast brooding presence casting an evil shadow across the valley. The wizard who created the tower has not been seen in centuries, although the legend has it that he (or she, no-one knows for sure) used to wander into the village at night dresses in a dark cape and snatch young men and women, taking them back to his or her lair to conduct foul magical experiments on them. The hideous screams of the wizard's victims, it is said, would echo across the landscape, striking terror into the hearts of the bravest.

And then, one day, the wizard simply stopped coming. No one knows what happened. Was the evil monster dead? did (s)he leave? And most of all, what was in the tower? For a generation, people were too afraid to venture to the Wizard's keep. But after a while, the bravest (or most foolhardy) did dare the dark forbidding gates.

None were ever seen again.

Rumours spread. Rumours of fell monsters and vast treasures. These rumours attracted adventurers from across the land. Many braved the wizard's keep. None returned. Soon these rumours too were spread, and after a few years, the flood of knights and paladins became a stream, then a trickle, and finally just a drip...

Fancy your chances, dear?

:) I haven't checked this thread in a while either, so sorry for not getting back to you sooner.

Thanks for that insightful reply. Bah! And I still can never see any of the magic eye images...lol. However, in terms of some quirk potentially related with patterns of dots, I'm strangely fascinated by tile patterns, especially in bathrooms (since there's not much to do anyways). Finding connections, patterns, ends and repeating sections, etc.

I'm really excited to have been accepted as a member, thanks and nice meeting you Chrystal!
