Well, I do have the book needed. I could send it to you so you can look it over.

That would be useful. As would starting stats/roles or however you find your starting abilities.

For starting level I'd assume level 1 since everyone will have just arrived and all that.  You might be 'Champions' for each of your respective villages or towns but in the other world you won't have any money, reputation, friends besides the ones you make along the way, and no clue as to what you're really getting into.  The few people that come back never talk about what they saw there and they are often times changed beyond what they were when they originally went in, only furthering the mystery.  Equipment should be appropriate to whatever 'class' you happen to go for and nothing over powered.  ;D  Sorry, got to watching the rest of Gone in Sixty Seconds on youtube so didn't go to bed as I thought I would lol.

Dorian can fill in the rest of the more technical details though.  That's just my side of things.  ;D

I ponder how long any of us can be remain pure in such a tainted land.

Dorian Grandale

Heh. Except for a few things that will need to be changed, most of the info you need, will be in the book. I'll post up a link once I upload it. Don't be frightened. it is only 32 pages.

Oh, hello Tydorei, and welcome.

EDIT:
You can find the very simple rulebook here.

32 pages.... I hope everything is well-described, I'm not experienced with GURPS.

As for transformations fading... I kind of liked the idea that even if you manage to get rid of your corruption, you are still stuck in your body, I'm more fan of abilities based on corruption. But it is your call, of course.

Dorian Grandale

It's either that, or handing out the full book, which I can bet will scare half of you off. No market for system games anymore..

I may not play GURPs but I do play DnD and Pathfinder and I happen to know of six semi-standard ways of determining the power level of a 1st level character, most based off how you find your starting stats. :P

Level 1 is not nearly as useful a starting point as a lot of people think.

On a related note, what races are available? Are we all starting human or are things like elves and dwarves available?

I believe I said in the intro, I could be wrong since I post tons all over this here site lol, that most of the common fantasy races were available to play so yes, dwarves, elves, humans, halfings, and whatever else that is common fare.  I might even allow some of the less common such as dark elves, giants, even a sentient orc or two if ya like, SO LONG as they are at least friendly if nothing else lol.  And ok, what level would you suggest then Saric?  Just curious but I don't want us all to be friggin trampling all over the enemies is why I said level 1 anyway, that and as I said before, there's hardly anything to go on about what's out in the other world anyway and half the battle is knowing your enemy.

From what Dorian has shown me through the rulebook he gave to me over Skype, as far as I can figure GURP does have levels, at least to some degree they could be called as such anyway.  He'd explain it better than me though so ask him to be sure.

I dont even want to say how long it has been since i used gurps. :( makes me feel old

Dorian Grandale

Hmm. Perhaps a more efficient way of communicating is needed..

It's okay, Sara. As an indicator of mine, I started with GURPS when it was on 2nd edition. I'll be using 3rd ed for this.

GURPS does not have levels, at least not in the way DnD uses them. The best indicator of power for a GURPS chara, it's their character point total. You use character points to do improvements on everything.

The only 'levels' I can think of in GURPS are the skill levels, which are relative to your main stats.

Sorry, I missed the line about race. It's at the bottom of the post.

As for the 'level' it's character points like Dorian said. The book he linked suggests 100 for creating a standard 'heroic' character (think PCs vs NPCs in DnD), 25 for an 'average joe' character and up to 300 for high power campaigns. Given that every thing we encounter looks to be a monster of some sort I'm not sure what power level is needed. I would suggest picking out an average early game monster encounter, stating it up with Dorian, and giving us slightly more points then that or 100 whichever is higher. Don't forget to take into account whether or not the monster in question is normally in a group. (the 'enemies' disadvantage equates 3-5 'average' enemies to 1 'heroic' enemy)

But in CoC you start pretty miserable and early in the game you are pretty forced to pick your encounters, or end up something along the lines of a minotaur cumslut or tentacle monster's plaything.

Sure, but as we mentioned. This is not CoC per se. It is based on it. You'll have a bit more of a chance, even if you will start rather miserable here, too.

I'd recommend starting at anywhere between 100 and 150 CPs. What do you think of that, Verg?

Hello there.. M.  ;)

As for sourcebooks, if you want to get into that, let me know what you would like to use, and I'll see if I have it.

As for GCA files, I'm uninformed. Can you clarify?

Ah! Character Assistant. Well, there's a problem there. GCA uses 4th ed, while we're using 3rd ed...

150 sounds reasonable to me.  Gives the players a better chance if they're worried about it.  :P
