Well, I can tell you that Schetyna's comment was completely unnecessary. He really isn't doing that good as a Foreign Affairs Minister... which, in turn, I blame Prime Minister Kopacz for. How could she ever think that removing Sikorski from this post (and installing him as a Speaker of the Sejm, a post he really isn't suitable for) was a good idea?

Speaking of Polish politics, I'm quite annoyed with our unions right now... We had this miners' protest not too long ago... and our government gave in to the miners' demands. So, now *all* unions decided that it's time to start making demands. Right now? The farmers' union threatens with blocking the capital...

More on politics... Behold the most talked-about candidate for presidency (we have presidential elections coming up in few months):

Her name's Magdalena Ogórek and she's representing the Democratic Left Alliance. She's 36 (meaning, she barely qualifies for presidency) and has no political experience whatsoever. She has not even been an MP or something like that. Education-wise, she has a doctorate in Catholic Church history...

I mean, I'm all for a female president. But this particular candidate? She's a complete unknown. I can't believe a supposedly-serious party like DLA made her a candidate. What's the point?

ICE (Immigration, Customs and Enforcement) has produced a Top Ten List of Most Wanted Human Traffickers. All I can say is that this was heavily needed considering how awful human trafficking is.

To protest the UK's new pr0n restrictions  two performers are holding a spankathon. One stroke of the cane for every ten pounds raised.

I have somewhat mixed feelings on this.

On one hand I clearly support any defence of BDSM even (as I mentioned in the thread on this) if I can see the logic behind it. BDSM takes a kicking from all corners these days and we're generally expected to bend over and take it (no pun intended).

On the other hand I wish it wasn't Pandora Blake taking the lead. If one wants to make the BDSM community look silly and get a fair amount of press (and in these days of clickbait journalism, who doesn't?) all one needs to do is ask her about attractiveness and the patriarchy; according to her not being attracted to a trans person or not being attracted to a fat (her words) person aren't a matter of personal preference and desire but are instead simply the patriarchy having ruined your mind.

Moreover, any complaints about this putting her out of business ring a little hollow. I'm sure her website brings in some money but Pandora's spent most of her adult life living at the expense of whoever her dom at the time was (again, this is something she's talked about). If the website was to be forced offline (and let's remember, she could just hire webmaster from outside the UK to avoid the regulations entirely) I imagine that situation would continue.

The US army is now invulnerable as it now is not allowed to have chinks in its armour.

Okay, that is genuine political correctness gone amok. I'm sorry.

4th grader in Texas suspended after bringing the one ring to school.

It should have just left it in it's stinky little pocketseSsSses!

Plus he was apparently suspended twice previously: once for calling a classmate black and another time for bringing a knowledge book in that had a page on pregnancy and included an image of a pregnant woman.

Beorning

You know what's funny? The school's superintendent is named Bill Boyd. Guess who played one of the hobbits in LOTR?

On more serious note, the boy's been suspended because of "making a terrorist threat". I mean... what?  :o

Also, the business with him having been suspended previously because of bringing a book about pregnancy to school (a book one of the sources describes as 'kids' book' - which means it couldn't have been anything age-improper) makes me wonder: what kind of school is that..?

TheGlyphstone

A school in Texas. One of the most virulent hotbeds of right-wing convervatism you'll find in America.

Snow, and lots of it

I lived in the area for a couple of years when I was a kid and have many fond memories of that province, and of the snow of course. Down here in the south there's just a thin, uneven veil of snow for now, some winters there's a lot more but never several feet of it.  ;) Would be happy to see more snow regularly here, actually, or to live in a place with slightly longer and colder winters.

Probably heavily pressured by the higher ups to do so, given the military culture in this country.

Sad reality is that almost everyone who reaches national prominence had to do some lying/fabrication along the way.  Hillary Clinton claimed she landed under sniper fire in Bosnia, and now people view her as a Democratic favorite.  So that just shows how accepted lying has become.

Gypsy

How do you know a politician is lying?

The fact that EVERYONE knows the answer to this joke is a pretty good illustration of how most/all people in the US view the truthfulness of politicians.   Some of them are just better at making people want to believe them, despite good sense.

How you apologize/act when caught is an important factor however. I don't know how Hillary handle it, but this guy seems to be passing it off as a simple misunderstanding, like it were some trivial detail, such as the colour of a shirt or the lengths of a car drive.
