Pathfinder Interest/GM Check

Well, since I've got room for another game now, I figure a nice basic pathfinder game would be pretty nice to get going. Before anyone gets their hopes up I am NOT going to be GMing a game. Finding a GM would be item number 1 on the list of stuff to get done. Also, I have buckets of selfish demands. BUCKETS!

I'd like this to be a small group game. That means 4 players and a GM, if not 3 players and a GMPC or two.

Low-to-mid level is what makes me happy. Anywhere between 1st and . . . oh . . 8th or 10th level?

I like my fantasy stuff old-school adventuring. A trek across Golarion or Faerun or Greyhawk, moving from town to town doing good ol' quests, and raiding dungeons or attacking monster dens. Big world-ending threats are for high level games, not this one, unless being used for setting fluff I guess.

This is just personal bias, but I like non-weird races. Elves and half-orcs and halfling and whatnot are cool, but I don't 'get' Goliaths and furs and half-demons and such. If the GM is cool with it and they join, I won't raise a fuss, but I'm not going to get cuddly with them either most likely.

Any nice possible GMs out there willing to work with me on this stuff? Or want to team up for some worldbuilding? Or just chat about possibilities? >.>

Just keep in mind that it's a lot of work to run a proper pathfinder game. Also, are you familiar with Golarion?

Or any other campaign settings? My personal favorite is Planescape, but Dark Sun and Eberron are also fun ones that break away a little from the classic fantasy tropes. (Planescape = journeying through the multiverse fighting demons, devils, gods, and stranger creatures, Dark Sun = post-magic apocalypse wasteland, Eberron = pulp magitech.)

Golarion is nice and straightforward though. Especially when sticking to the inner sea. Also you might want to keep the race/class choices simple as a beginning GM. Perhaps just the core book.

Atypical settings like the three Ghostwheel mentioned are exactly NOT what a rookie GM should be trying to run :-).

Latooni, do I read you correctly that the published Adventure Paths are too epic for your tastes even though they start at low level?

I just personally don't like the published adventure paths, but yeah, they tend to be a bit too epic for my tastes. And yeah, totally not looking for the atypical settings like Darksun. I'd be willing to listen to discussion about it though.

I'm familiar with Golarion. However, I've also done an entire 1-10 campaign in the Chrono Trigger World (specifically, ONE specific point in time, the dark ages with floating islands and all), and I also have an idea for doing something in Brutal Legend.

I'm pretty sure I could make battle images using Maptool and upload them to imgur or something. In that case, tell me what you guys want to represent you on the map!

We could go with Planescape ideas, or have our game jump to that. A big draw of Planescape for me is the ability to go anywhere and do anything. If I wanna dump you guys in Faerun one day and Krynn the next, I can and I will.

Planescape is way out of my depth. I like sticking to one, normal setting where you can do some real persistant changes to stuff, get a reputation going, and don't have to deal with random shifts in 'the rules' and stuff. :x

I just want to reiterate that I'm looking for some nice 'normal' adventuring. Town to town questing, dungeon delving, caravan escorting, bandit slaying, etc. If the game survives for quite a while and high level is reached, then I'm fine with dipping into weirder stuff, but definately not early on. >.>;

We kick things off at 1st level. No evil allowed. I'll go ahead with Golarion, but I'm not very well versed in the various factions-and to be honest, I really don't wanna deal with them. I'll be fine if it's in your backstory, I can spin it as a plot hook, but I don't want you guys running around as official faction representatives-it gets complicated, and I hate complicated. Standard starting cash for classes, all Core and Base classes and races allowed, and 2 traits with standard rules.

Edit because someone sent me a message: If you wanna do any player race from a monster book, ask for approval. Anything that's potentially evil (Tieflings, etc.) will be heavily scrutinized, and if I judge that said character has turned fully evil, I'm taking the character away. I've had a few people try to do evil under my nose, and I do not like it: Pathfinder is not about evil unless we all agree to do evil. It's about heroes.

I'm also not a big fan of Chaotic Neutral, but a good backstory gets you a lot with me-good sales cover up many sins.

I did some random rolls and junk, and got a bunch of crap, but the Heroic rolls gave me some pretty sweet stats, so I'm tentatively going with that unless I get veto'd. >.>

Character-wise, I'm going to get about un-munchkin as I can get here with my class choices. I'm going to make a Wizard/Cleric/Mystic Theurge. Good times!

Just tried those heroic rolls (14,16,16,18,18,10) Seems pretty high, but I guess that's pathfinder for you.
I'd like to throw in a Bard. With GM's approval I might make a Dashing swordsman out of him eventually. If not, or until that I'll just play him as such.

Whoa, whoa, whoa, hold on. I know you guys went ahead and rolled, and that's great...but I wanted to go with 20 point buy. Probably should have mentioned that, but I was kind of expecting people to think up concepts first and then think about stats...call me naive.

I prefer 20 point buy so everyone's on the same level, and it ends up putting the heroes at a perfect level: Just slightly better then monsters on their level. Which is exactly what it should be.

Definately not going Theurge. The only reason I picked it was because I actually had rolled up stats that were good enough to not be TERRIBLE at it! lol

Ghostwheel: Sure does, when you're always 3-ish levels weaker than an equivalent level caster, and have to split your points up between two casting ability scores. But it's a non-issue now.

If so, I would probably toss together a straight-forward warrior of some kind. Does that sound good to you guys?

Hey guys, one last thing real quick: First 5 to send me a concept and character sheet (use myth-weavers, please!) will get in. They can be combined if you like, you can write your history on the myth-weavers sheet!

All races and classes are accepted, but if it's not in the Core Book or Advanced Player's Guide, send me a link to a relevant SRD page so I can approve or disallow it (if I disallow, I'll give you some extra time to go back and redo it). Same with archetypes, if it's 3rd party, send me a link.

In your backstory, I need a reason for why you would be traveling. We'll be starting in a somewhat isolated coastal town, one that has easy access to ships but only one inland route. It's used as a stop for many sailing ships, and many use the road to find a ship to get passage on, however, why are you here?

Alright guys, so far, we have Katataban, Latooni Subota, Ghostwheel, and arkhos all making characters as far as I know. Keep it going, and I can do it with 4 people if we prefer. I'm building up my dungeon for the first adventure, I have the map already and I can even show you guys the player's version (the one without all the DM markings-I use Donjon's Dungeon Generator, good stuff) if you want.

Hrm, Cleric, Oracle, bard, and fighter is pretty unusual for a party (Though awesome). I think I'll actually try and multiclass it up a bit towards Mystic THeurge or something after all, to give us some more ranged combat oomph.

Edit: As for starting with 4, you know I prefer smaller groups, so I'd have no problems with that :3

Name: Mirran Kellos

Background:

Rain lashed down on the small form, crying within the bassinet. The sheets were slowly soaking through, the crying growing louder by the moment. Thin, wet, rain-slicked hair was strewn about the babe's head and his red cheeks were cold with the falling moisture almost miraculously appearing from the sky. If anyone had bothered to look at the moment he'd been left, they might have seen a strange figure dart away and disappear into moonless sky, its piercing light shrouded by dark, dank, and heavy clouds that poured rain upon the land.

A light turned on within the orphanage, and a surprised murmuring could be heard before the small cradle was picked up and hurried inside. Within it was warm and protected from the elements. It took some time, but eventually the babe grew quiet and fell to sleep, too tired from its attempts at attention to even beg for sustenance. And that was his first night at the place he would call home for almost the next two decades.

Life passed at the orphanage, but not quite as smoothly as it might have. Strange... things happened around the boy that had been left 'pon the doorstep, things that couldn't be explained. Heavy footsteps outside his room and in the attic above. Things were placed somewhere and later found somewhere the boy could never have reached. Strange lights could be seen in the distance, but only through a certain angle when looking out of the window to his room. To talk about the boy... there wasn't much. Insular and afraid of much of the outside world, he was teased mercilessly by the other children at the orphanage both for his looks and for the strange things that happened about him. At times a few were picked to go with parents, and even a time or two he was picked, people entranced by his looks and not heeding the strange looks and whispers that circled the gathering place where orphans were chosen. But time and again he came back to the orphanage accompanied by angry and frightened adults, the only souvenirs from the stay there black eyes, bruises and welts.

There were a few people who singled him out, either as friends or as rivals, but he never had a great connection with any of them. In the end, as he neared the age of majority, he made up his mind. He needed to find how he had become like this, why he had become like this. What was his fate? Was he to die as he was found and lived, alone? The thought scared him enough to push him out of his state of mind, and before he could change his mind he left the orphanage, leaving everyone behind, and stepped out into the larger world with questions that were few in numbers, but weighed heavily on his heart.
