Embedding vid from tumblr?

Is there any way to do that? All I get when copying the embedding code for the vid is a lot of code that does not give the vid in the post.

How do I make it so it shows the vid in the post? Is that even possible?

I would post the code to it, but it's NSFW and definitely not PG 13 :P

If you found it in a search you actually have to click on the video and go to the person's tumblr page that has the specific video you're looking to share, otherwise you link to their general home page.

<edit>  Sometimes the problem is the person's tumblr theme.  It never actually opens their full page, but instead only displays like the half screen side bar.  It is super annoying and I don't know that there is any way to change the display because it is a problem on their end.

Right-click on the video and if there's the option of 'copy video URL' you can paste it in and it'll do this (without the code bits, want you to see the url):

Hm - you might also see if hovering over the vid gives you the option to 'watch this on YouTube'.  Usually it's in the lower left corner if the tumblr user has embedded it from YouTube.  A similar option might be available for other video-hosting services.

Unfortunately I dont get that by right clicking. Basically it is a porn video :P One member could see the link I provided, but another couldnt. Sucks that they dont provide a better way of sharing outside of Tumblr :(

Actually, I seem to have found a way to do it, but it's a bit of a PITA.

-Find the vid you want to link.

-R. Click on it and select 'inspect'.  You'll get a code panel on the r. side.

-look for the tags <video id embed=...  and the end tag </video>

-l. click to select the code block between those 2 tags, then r. click and select copy/copy element.

-You'll now have a block of code on your clipboard.  Paste it into your message. It looks as if you can clip out everything except the address following <source src=..., and it will be parsed the same way a Youtube link is.

I've tested a few of them just on blank posts here, and it seems to work, but I don't know if you'll run into the same problem of some people not being able to open it.

If there are 2 addresses in the block, use the one that has the type=video tag at the end.  It looks like there are sometimes single frame 'preview' addresses in those blocks.  There should be one that says https://whoever.tumblr.com/video_file/etc.etc.


Mind you, I'm doing this almost entirely empirically. What little web code I know (and it's damn little) is well out of date.
