I know no one ever wants to be the first to vote, but usually people at least roleplay a little...

*cheers*  Thanks!   :D

For those who haven't played before, there is a strange tendency for people to vote for whoever votes first, which is why no one wants to do so.  But it's all just in the timing of who's online when, so even if you decide Ryven is a suspicious character, don't decide that just because he voted first to help get things moving.  :)

I always hate to lose anyone from the game, but it must be done.  And you can still haunt around here as much as you like.  :)

Fun Fact: The Egyptian afterlife was supposed to be a sort of idealized version of the earthly Egypt, with no problems or unhappiness; and it was also believed that spirits could sometimes travel across the sky during the day with Ra, the sun god.  Ra was thought to travel in two boats -- the Mandjet, or Morning Boat, took him across the sky; while the Mesektet, or Evening Boat, brought him through the underworld overnight so that he could rise again in the east the next day.

The Hall of Ma'at, by the way (*points to the newly-altered title of the thread*) was where the souls of the dead were tested to judge their fitness for the afterlife.  Ma'at was the goddess of truth, order, and justice, and if you've heard of the ancient belief that the heart of the deceased was weighed against an ostrich feather, that's Ma'at doing the weighing.  Doing evil was believed to make the heart heavy, so only those whose hearts were lighter than the feather would be welcomed into Osiris' realm.

I love ancient Egyptian history, can you tell?   ;D

Women in ancient Egypt lived much more liberated lives than most of their contemporaries, at least those women who owned some property.  And they could own property in their own right, buying and selling it as they chose, as well as being able to will it away to whoever they wished.  Working women received exactly the same pay as men in the same jobs -- something most countries still have trouble with today.  Royal women are depicted as taking part in battle, even being decorated for valor.  Queens frequently carried out diplomatic correspondence with other nations in their own right, and also deputized for their husbands.  The Greek historian Herodotus, observing Egyptian society around 450 B.C.E., said that they "had reversed the ordinary practices of mankind," since women would go out to the market to trade, while men stayed at home weaving.

Though most women were illiterate (as probably about 95 - 98% of society was at that time), some did learn to read and write, as evidenced by the fact that some women held high office.  Queen Hetepheres II held the title of "Controller of the Affairs of the Kiltwearers" (Mith, are you reading this?  ;D), which actually meant she was in charge of the entire civil service, a very important job.  Female overseers, governors, doctors, and judges were not unheard of, and in at least two cases, the Grand Vizier was a woman.  There are also six queens on record as ruling completely independently, including Hatshepsut, Nefertiti, and of course Cleopatra.

Okay, if the fun facts don't inspire anyone, how about cookies for whoever starts the voting?   ;D

I know there's a natural aversion to voting first, especially if things have gone badly for the first voter in previous rounds; but someone has to take the plunge.  So try not to think of the first voter as being up to something -- look at it as them being brave, or at least doing all of us a favor.  :)

It's possible the fans were largely symbolic anyway, maybe just something they brought out on big formal state occasions and such.  The name comes from the fact that the fan-bearers were those who were trusted and loyal enough to be granted a place literally right next to the embodiment of the deities on earth, which is where they would be if they were holding fans to shield the king from the sun.

But you all can have actual giant feathery fans if you want them.  *grins*

Even though I died early I still had a lot of fun....

And wow. That did go really quick.
I was lost for some time.
Ari's Absences and Social Thread    ||    Ari's Notes for Writing

Valerian

That was amazingly fast -- the Soldiers of the Moon had some bad breaks early on that they were never quite able to recover from, which often happens.  Let me work up a little recap for you:

Day 1 - Kyrsa, a Fan-Bearer, is lynched

Night 1 - Ariadne, a Fan-Bearer, is killed by the Soldiers of the Moon.  Imogen, the Grand Vizier, scryes upon Moirae, a Soldier of the Moon.  Ryven, the Royal Guard, protects himself.

Day 2 - Paladin and Remiel tie; the Priestess of Hathor decrees that Remiel, a Soldier of the Moon, must die.

Night 2 - Imogen scryes upon Ryven.  Ryven protects himself.  The Soldiers of the Moon fail in their attack upon Ryven.

Day 3 - Paladin is lynched.

Night 3 - Ryven guards himself.  The Soldiers of the Moon target and kill Beguile's Mistress.  Imogen scryes on Aiden, a Fan-Bearer.  Esoteric Myobi, the Follower of Isis, poisons Ryven.

Day 4 - Moirae, the final Soldier of the Moon, is lynched and the courtiers win the day!

In other news:  I have a Werewolf game, originally meant for newer members of E, that still needs three or four more players -- and since it's taking way too long to find those players, and I don't want to make the players there are wait any longer, would anyone from here like to play?

I'm keeping it small and simple (ten or eleven people, special roles seer and guardian only), and assuming no prior knowledge of the game, though a few have played before, I believe.  So that one will probably also be fairly quick, assuming I don't lose a bunch of players, as happened last time.  :P

We had it won anyway.  Imogen contacted me only a couple of nights in, and we began to plot our next move.  I kind of figured that Paladin was the other soldier when he didn't vote for Moirae and then she, in turn, didn't vote for him.  By that point, it was really moot if I died.

I'm up for another game, if you'll have me.
