Needing help with building a Facebook application

I need help with building a facebook application for my social networks class, and I'm kind of lost how I should do it :[ If anyone is good with PHP, MySQL, FBML and FB API... please post here or PM me... I don't know if anyone on here has been working with facebook applicatioins, so if I don't find anyone I won't explain what I need to do (kind of lazy and brain-dead at the moment to explain it right now).

I just so 'love' it when professors are giving us projects that they hadn't prepared us to create :/

I have no idea, but a quick Google search on "how to build a facebook application" turns up the following results in the top five:

Those two are Facebook links, so they'll probably be the most comprehensive, in terms of what you need to do to get started.

Thanks, Caeli, I already looked at those and I understand them, but they are really quite the beginner's stuff and we are asked something harder.

Veks, if I figure out how to work with facebook and I have some PHP and MySQL questions, can I PM you? I have a month (16th January is the deadline), so hopefully by then I'll manage to figure out those things, but my work with PHP and MySql until now... well, it's been quite limited.
