Bartimaeus Trilogy Roleplay (OOC/SignUp)

"Magic, Magicians and Demons....Oh my!"

Welcome to the Bartimaeus Trilogy based role play OOC and sign up thread! Open to all members approved or unapproved (whether or not you are familiar with the Bartimaeus franchise), so feel free to enter our world. Make sure to read through the rules before posting. This thread is for the posting of profiles and discussing of anything related to the roleplay. If you are not familiar with the Bartimaeus franchise don't be shy! There's a few pointers on the setting below, certainly enough to get started in the world of magicians and their demonic companions!

Basic Storyline/ Background&Setting:

About the world of Bartimaeus (a brief version for those who are not familiar or want to refresh their memory): Basically an alternate universe which is pretty much the same as ours with a few slight changes in history (but those are unimportant with regard to this roleplay). Any normal human is capable of using "magic", or at least drawing a pentacle and saying some enchantments (a mix of commands in ancient languages e.g. Latin, Greek, etc.) to summon a demon and command it. Demons generally hate humans for summoning them from the "Other Place" (as it pains them to be on Earth), so if a line is unfinished or out of place in a pentacle, or if a word is mispronounced or stuttered, a demon can leave the pentacle and will eat the human (see simple  ;D). If a demon knows a magician's true name (birth name) they can turn any punishment spells back on the magician, so all magicians use an alias all their life and tell nobody their real name. The magicians have a head council and organise apprentices and such within their numbers, which is why the general public believe magicians to have some ability which allows them to preform magic. Demons can take on any form they like (this depends on rank slightly, if uncertain just stick with a djinni/ any mid level spirit). They see the world on seven planes, humans only see on one but magicians have invented contact lenses to allow them see on the first three. Demons hate rosemary and are weakened by iron and more severely by silver. Magicians can summon one demon at a time, but may have many serving them.

#1
Demon

Names:
True name: Frith (for commands & summoning)
Aliases: Dúnmharú, (Dún for short, pronounced Dune), Duwar of the Burren
     (Will be using male pronouns)

Age: about 3350 years old

First Summoning: approximately 1350BC

Rank: Djinni (4th level)

Preferred Forms: Irish Wolf Hound, black Horse/Labrador

History:
First summoned by the priests of the temple of Amun-Re. During the reign of Akhenaten was used as a tool in some scandals and religious politics. Due to the religious instabilities at that time and tensions rising, was forced to aid in the the flight of Akhenaten’s oldest daughter to Ireland. This led to Dún's name falling into the hands of the Irish druids. From then on Dún was frequently summoned throughout the course of Irish history. Dún is said to have played a large role in the cattle raid of Cooley and had more minor roles from then up to the Nine Years' War wherein Dún once again played a substantial role. Dún is also said to have been summoned outside Ireland on a number of occasions over these years but few particulars of those summonings remain on record.

Languages: Ancient Egyptian, English, Irish, Greek, Latin and a number of other languages and dialects.

Personality: Dún possesses a shrewd and proud nature. Like almost all spirits Dún is most resentful of the enslavement imposed by humans. After the common human cruelty he witnessed and was subjected to in Egypt, Dún learned to disdain the low life that first summoned him and gradually all humans. Upon coming to Ireland the djinni was regarded with awe and fear (much to his delight.....did I mention all demons have that little tendency towards vanity? Well Dún discovered it came quite naturally.) The constant warring and often ridiculous skirmishes were most amusing to the djinni and he sometimes even had more amicable relationships with the Irish humans. As time wore on the druids faded into myth along with any regard Dún had for his masters. The strains of repeated summonings and consciousness of depleting essence rendered him short tempered and quick to exploit any loop hole in a pentacle or command. For the first time in his existence Dún has become utterly bored of the predictable human routine.

Magician
Name: Ruàn Mulcahy
Alias: Red

Age: 18

Gender: Female

Background: Like most raised in Northern Ireland in the time of The Troubles, Ruàn was brought up a through and through Catholic who believed in the church and in Ireland. Not "Northern Ireland", not "Republic of Ireland", but Ireland, one and united. As she grew, even from a young age, she noticed how fired up her parents would get about the patrols of Englishmen around the cul de sacs, watching for any signs of trouble. "They should go back to their bloody queen!" Her father would grimace and his friends would grumble their approval. Her mother was no better, getting into outright arguements in public with anyone who dared support the Union Jack, such was the strength of her patriotism and her voice. The local troublemakers would hang around her neighbourhood, planning whatever new grand scheme they'd commence. She saw no problem with it. The English were unwelcome, someone had to show them the door. It was only after she became older and saw the damage that was caused by such reckless acts. Innocents were getting harmed. With her father practically non-existant, always out at the local pub every night, she found herself developing a fine head on her shoulder and a voice loud enough to challenge her opinionated mother. With her knowledge and what she believed to be maturity, she decided to get involved, and to hopefully guide the troublemakers better. There had to be a better way than just endangering everyone, right?

Personality: Headstrong, stubborn as an ox and just as difficult to beat. Ruàn'd rather die than keel over to anyone but her mum. While she's as reckless as most teenagers she has some kind of wisdom and maturity unusual for her age, bringing her to mother those younger than her, and being the one most go to for advice. At the same time, she's, as she calls it, academically challenged, and couldn't tell you the capital of Spain if you gave her an atlas. She's loyal to a fault, partially what drives her to join the young IRA; she didn't want to risk seeing her friends die. Despite her flaws she's a natural born leader. Many challenged the idea of a girl joining actively on the frontlines; she changed their mind. Her views of magic are the same as her views of Protestantism. She doesn't trust it, she doesn't like it, but the enemy uses it, hence she researches it. Unfortunately she becomes greedy for knowledge, knowledge of demons of all things.

Physique: Long, straight hair of tarnished gold. Broad shoulder, taller than most women but still shorter than most men. Curvy but not too heavy. Well built from her enjoyment of physical activity.

Power Level: Novice. She's self taught and barely knows anything about magic aside from the basics. Her lust for power once she started delving stopped her learning more before taking it upon herself to summon her first demon.

*cracks neck* I know you said to keep it short, but a starter needs to be big, because inevitably, unless we go hardcore 1337 pr0s, the size of posts will dwindle down into whatever we're comfortable with. You can't deny I gave you all kinds of ammunition in that one post XD

If anyone is curious about the roleplay and doesn't know where to start or wants to ask anything, don't be afraid to ask, either here or in PM, K3ystone or myself.
