The room was small, stuffy, the ideal place to hold back door agreements which could be denied in public.  London had its historical places of power.  Parliament, Downing Street, Buckingham Palace, Scotland Yard, but those were mere illusions of power, drab and dross to placate the common folk and to heard them like so much sheep in their lives.  No, it was locations such as the one Alexander Luthor was which the true policies and decisions were made, true power and the might of Empires were wielded.  Despite being made to wait he could not help but smile.

The fact he was invited meant one of two things, those who worked from the shadows in the British Empire meant to strong arm him, to cow him and to have the United States bow to the power of England.  If he had been certain he was not being watched he would have laughed at the notion.  The United States was still a sore point century later for Britain.  The colonies they lost all because political and commercial greed outstripped common sense.  They were as blind now as they had been those years ago and this meeting was not going to end with the result they wanted, but they will convince themselves otherwise.  It was his gift after all, to bend the wills of others to his grand design, whether they saw it or not.  It was how he earn the ambassadorship to England and the next step in not only having control over the United States, but Britain and all her vast wealth and power as well.  Yes all was going according to the Plan.

Welcome to the recruitment/interest thread for London by Gaslight, an alternative universe and mash up between DC, League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, and other Gothic an Victorian inspired characters.  This game was heavily inspired by the following movies/series:  Gotham by Gaslight, The Nevers, and Penny Dreadful.  Both myself and Foxy Deville are you GM's for this experience.  While there will be a meta plot or more to get players to be a part of, this will also be a sandbox for players to flex their creativity in any way they wish.   The next post will go over character expectations and the sample sheet for players to fill out.  While it will likely change in the future, right now we want players to focus on one character.   Looking forward to see the interest and creativity of people wanting to join.

Feel free to post your concepts here or to PM them to myself and Foxy.  Here are some rules/guidelines we are looking for.  Again we are not looking for uber Justice League must save the multiverse game, but far more street level and fraught with risk from the people the heroes are motivated to defend.

1.  Looking for DC heroes with a Victorian England angle, or Victorian literary figures with a hero twist, such at League of Extraordinary Gentlemen type characters.  OC's will a hard sell as we think there is enough creative license out there with this concept.  Genderbends are allowed.

2. We do want this to have a gritty feel out, like it is with the Turned in the HBO series "The Nevers".  While there is some population out there who support heroes, it is very small minority.  Public heroes will be at crossed swords with police and government officials.

3. The game will take place in London, England 1891.  American origin heroes can have traveled over, as the situation in the US is not too different than London save there are elements in the government entertaining the idea of forced conscription for meta type people.  Thus their identity could have been exposed, or they are actively being hunted to become an unwilling weapon to the United States.

4. Power levels in the game are drastically reduced in this game.  As an example, players are free to pick out iconic heroes such as  Superman, Wonder Woman, Batman, Captain Marvel (Shazam), their strength is no where near the comic books.  Bullets will bruise then, other weapons out there can harm them, etc.  We are looking for heroes which would be challenged by the police and other normal humans out there with weapons.  So if we ask to make changes to your character sheet, please do not take it personally.

5. Technology must have a steampunk feel to it like it was on Gotham by Gaslight or the Nethers.  Feel free to be creative.  Just keep in mind the reliability of such technology is low, and can be prone to malfunction, especially if its desired outcome is complex.

6. I love martial arts, I really do, but keep in mind this is the 1890's and Chinese immigration it not really wide spread, especially to London, and those out there are not really willing to give their secrets of their fighting skills to other races.  Boxing and other forms of it are very prevalent and is not as useless as some people think.  Cinimax has a series called Warrior, based on old Bruce Lee spaghetti western.  There are white characters who do hold their own against martial artists with boxing or police truncheons (beaters).  While we are not gonna say no exactly, we do not want a whole bunch of tenth level blackbelts out there either.  Think of it as a role play challenge and would love to see how people deal with it.

7. For female players, women's rights are in their infancy.  Women were only allowed to own property for the first time 1870, allowed into university 1880.  They still cannot vote.  Again think of this as another source of conflict for heroes out there.

8. This game is not restricted by canon so there is much creative license and freedom here with this game concept.  We are looking forward to what people come up.

Here is the blank character sheet.

I am so utterly thrilled to see this has made it's way here. I will throw my exceedingly fashionable feathered cap into the ring with a Christina Hendricks faceclaim Dr. Pamela Lillian Isley PhD, please and thank you.

I will whip up a period appropriate character sheet by the morning, hopefully.

I only wanna be your self-inflicted wound.
It sees you, baby. The friction between me and you.
Show me what makes you human, I'll show you vulnerable.
You bend, you break, you surrender and melt like solid gold.

Glad to have you Tinker Toy and really looking forward to your take on Ivy.

Well. I would like to reserve Cyborg with a face claim for Michael B. Jordan, please and thank you. Credentials of authenticity to be delivered post haste!

Hero Name: Talos (steampunk Cyborg)

Identity: Once Marcus Lovena, now Victor Stone

Secret or Public Identity: Secret

Origin of Powers: Alien/Steampunk like tech

Description (Appearance): Victor was tall originally, but given an additional few inches after he was changed to stand at six foot six. His stocky build still doesn’t fully illustrate that he is heavy at over three hundred pounds of organic and inorganic material. When Talos, he presents fully clothed and gloved to hide the disfigurement of his transformation. His body is scarred and partially machine. His heartbeat was more of a hum from a miniaturized steam engine of  unknown origin within his chest.

Personality:  Seething underneath the clothing and imprisoned within his body is a rage that cannot truly know peace. He struggles with the beliefs he held onto in his old life, with the cruel realities he’s had to endure. Why does he want to help? One could say it's a last grasp at keeping what humanity he had left, Or maybe just the dying wish of the man he was that fateful day.

Powers:

Strength. Speed, and Durability beyond that of humanity. The intricate weaving of machine and man has created a being with the ability to do more physically.
Enhanced Senses. Talos was upgraded beyond the limited scope of human beings
The Shift. Limited shapeshifting, usually focused on his fully mechanical right arm to create either
A Tesla Lightning Gun
A rudimentary shield that enhances his own durability within the small area.

Special Skills and Background Perks: The Mother Box’s touch altered his mind. He’s been learning exponentially since then. He now absorbs information to utilize the capacity opened by the Mother Box. This will constantly develop over time as he acquires new skills through study and experiences. In another life, he was a skilled sailor and has intimate knowledge of his own design.

Special Equipment: His person would suffice.

Brief History: Marcus dreamed of a chance to sail away to distant lands and explore the unknown. He became a sailor under Her Majesty’s Navy, and enjoyed the thrill of the open sea. It wasn’t until he was attached to an Exhibition to indulge Doctor Frankenstein’s claim of a great power in the arctic, that he found himself truly in peril. The weather turned, and it took the right lurch at the wrong time to send him sprawling overboard and into the drink

He awoke in pain, his face turned to the sky as arcs of lightning streaked across the sky. A man was babbling like a madman about being alive...and he realized that the man meant him.

A box sat connected to wires. It pulsed with light and seemed to regard him for a moment before it shined brightly and his voice cried out in a construct of pain. When he awoke again, Doctor Frankenstein was waiting for him. Going on and on about how he was right all along, and how Marcus would prove it. Marcus stayed silent. He had died. The box had brought him back, and before it went dark, gave him a piece of it to continue on. He knew, without knowing, that there was nothing for him there but pain and continued torment. And so he escaped.

He took his creator’s name, Victor, and gave himself the surname Stone to be...symbolic. He was dead, yet he lived. He hungered. He yearned, but ways to sate himself were as dead as his old self. He walked along the dark places. Forbidden places. Placed himself in sight of the beasts that resided there in order to feed his thirst for justice. A thing that will always evade him, but maybe not others so unfairly treated. Talos walked amongst them, to tip the scales when justice’s reach was too shallow, or its attention was otherwise occupied.

Played by: Writersblockade

Faceclaim: Would like to Face Claim Michael B Jordan for unmasked Victor

Plot Hooks With connections to the Mother Box, and basically being not only a reanimated person, but one with machined parts as well, he could be involved in a few plots for those who know what he is. As Talos he’s pretty covered up, but whoever could pry the truth from Frankenstein would know that he was out there.

Hmm... maybe I should play as Beast Boy.  I'm considering using Tyler Posey as his face claim.

Is being able to turn into any animal still within the appropriate power levels for this game?

Would it make sense if my version of Beast Boy was Mowgli who was given the mystical power to become any animal from the Jungle Book?

Hero Name: Belladonna (aka Poison Ivy)

Identity: Dr Pamela Lillian Isley PhD

Secret or Public Identity: Secret

Origin of Powers: Metahuman via science

Description (Appearance): Even in her most austere attire, Dr Isley has a body that was made for sin. With the highest fashions of the day, her voluptuous form is made more so with the utilisation of tightlaced corestry. Hair the colour of the last dying rays of the sun compliment eyes the shade of the finest cut emeralds.

Personality:  The duality of her nature has become a means of survival. Though she is fully herself in both personas, her public and secret identities are purposefully different. In her daily, public identity of Dr Pamela Lillian Isley PhD, she appears as a shy yet enigmatic woman of science. Dr Isley is as polite as a woman needs to be to thrive in a world of men. Generally buttoned down and firmly focused on her work,  but her intellect and knowledge is used as a weapon for both defensive and offensive means as and when it is called for. When the fallacy of Dr Isley is cast off, the true persona of Belladonna straddles the precarious line between genius and insanity. A seductive temptress that is cunning as she is deadly. A champion for women, the betrayed and the exploited, her view of humanity dwindles by the day.

Powers: Control over plant life, enhanced strength and stamina, the power to transfer poison through touch, complete immunity to all toxins and poisons, and the ability to project mind-controlling pheromones. She has the ability to control and mutate all forms of plant life on a molecular level, making it respond to her will and command. Her special pheromones let her mesmerize and manipulate people around her, men in particular, although strong-minded people are usually capable of resisting. She can also create potent floral toxins, ranging from truth serums to love potions. Often these toxins are secreted from her lips and administered in her preferred way, a poisonous kiss.

Special Skills and Background Perks:Her expertise as a biochemist lets her develop mutant plants, and create and bring to life plants that were long thought to be extinct.  Exceptionally physically fit both due to gymnastics and her enhanced health; skillful in hand-to-hand combat without relying solely on her powers. Born to a wealthy family, but has since her transformation made her own fortune cultivating opiates for both official sale to hospitals and medical professionals, and a higher potency opium to the many dens dotted across London and further afield.

Special Equipment: She carries a certain number of live vines: coupled with her natural ability to commune with plant life, they act as weaponry, or defensive/grabbing appendages. Their supply is, however, limited.

Brief History: Pamela grew up in a highly respected, wealthy, yet distant family. From a young age she found solace in the humid fertility of the greenhouses on her family’s estate. Her intellectual aptitude, passion for botany and a hefty financial incentive secured her a place at Oxford University. The naive,  young Isley was seduced by professor, Dr. Jason Woodrue. Threatened by both her femininity and intellect, Woodrue coerced her into being his test subject under the ruse of developing a new range of anesthetics. The experimental cocktail of poisons and toxins triggered her transformation, but not before bringing her close to death. The brush with her mortality and the altering substances, brought about her insanity. Upon the authorities learning of his attempts to kill his brightest student, Woodrue fled from the country, leaving his former student languishing in Saint Bartholomew's Hospital for many months. On her recovery, Isley returned to Oxford a changed woman, talents enhanced and undeniable she graduated with a phenomenal first, that led to both her Masters and PhD.

To the public Dr Pamela Lillian Isley PhD is the Director of Science at The Royal Botanical Gardens, Kew Gardens. A trail blazing botanist that has successfully hybridised plants for applications in medicine, decoration and agriculture. She has cultivated species of plants thought long extinct, which earned her the accolade of the first woman elected to be part of the Royal Horticultural Society. The good doctor is a vehement supporter of National Union of Women's Suffrage Societies, donating copious amounts of money to the cause.

The seductive being known as Belladonna maintains an indomitable grip on the opium trade within London that has tendrils as far flung as Eastern Europe. A defender of women and those that have been exploited by those with power, her methods are often fatal and always destructive. With the Industrial Revolution changing the face of the world with technology and pollution, factories pumping out filth and inhumane working conditions have become targets for her steady fall into ecoterrorism.

Played by: Tinkertoy

Faceclaim: Christina Hendricks

Plot Hooks: The good doctor is teetering between hero and villainy. She has strong convictions to women’s rights and the plight of women in general. Her connections to the underworld in her supply of high quality opium, opens her up to all kinds of scenarios to push that balance either way. Her insanity is having a direct effect on her humanity, the more she distances herself from regular society, the further she falls. A victim of men, science and betrayal, it would be easy for her to fall on either side of the equation...but which will it be?

That could be interesting. Mowgli being beast boy could totally work. Worse case scenario, you could give him Vixen's powers instead

I'm not overly familiar with DC, but I'll do a bit of digging and see what I can find.

Would a character like Venom be feasible?

If you're looking for a symbiotic relationship with an alien entity, my first instinct would be Blue Beetle, particularly the Jaime Reyes incarnation.

If you're looking for something ooze-like and amorphous in nature, I'd say Clayface from the Gotham Rogues' Gallery or Inque from Batman Beyond are good starting places.

I hope this helps.

For myself, I'm considering an older, weathered Jonah Hex. Someone old hat to facing down strangeness with nothing but a pair of six shooters (though he may keep a raygun in his back pocket for when he needs to punch above his weight class).

Deathnote

Closest DC equivalent to Venom I can think of is Blue Beetle, but you’d have to nerf him quite a bit, I think.

@Writersblockade - Mowgli’s gonna need a way out of the jungle and all the way to London.  Think Victor could give him a lift while on his way back from the Arctic?  :p

BlackStone

A anti-heroish Clayface would work really well considering how the theatre was such an important part of Victorian Society.  An actor fearing groing old after he was passed over for parts, desperate to reclaim his career....

Hero Name: Mowgli

Identity: Garfield Logan

Secret or Public Identity: Secret

Origin of Powers: Meta / Mystical

Description (Appearance): Years of living in the jungle has allowed Mowgli to develop an athletic body.  Standing at about 5ft 10in, he has a number of callouses and scars, especially on his elbows and knees due to being raised by wolves.  Although he has learned to stand on two feet and speak the English language, it's quite obvious that he's not used to human civilization.  He still carries an air of wildness and beastly instincts, even in human form.

Personality:  He's quite the curious young man, having explored much of the jungle and beyond during his youth.  He finds it difficult to sit still and is always on the move, needing to be active whenever possible.  He has no patience for authority and was quite disrespectful to the village elders whenever they recounted fanciful, but very untrue stories about the jungle.  He's unimpressed by such human things as money and caste division.  He can also be quite friendly and compassionate, ready to make more allies just as he did to survive in the jungle.

Powers: Mowgli has the ability to take the form of any animal he's familiar with such as wolves, kites, panthers, bears, snakes, monkeys, elephants, fish, and rats.  He is also capable of communicating with animals, though it may take a while for him to get used to animals he is not familiar with.  Should he ever meet a mythical creature such as a werewolf or a dragon, he could theoretically turn into one of those as well.

Special Skills and Background Perks: Even without taking on an animal form, Mowgli is very fast and dexterous, capable of traveling through the dangerous parts of the jungle by leaping and swinging from tree to tree.  He's easily on par with any circus acrobat.  Having lived in the jungle, he has also learned to rely upon his senses to detect danger and track down prey.

Special Equipment: He made some clothes out of the hide of a tiger and a few simple weapons from the bones, claws, and fangs.

Brief History: Approximately 18 years ago, a baby was found and raised by a pack of wolves deep in the jungle.  The baby's parents, Mark and Marie Logan, were studying some ancient ruins when they were attacked and killed by a tiger named Shere Khan.  Two members of the pack, Rama and Raksha were able to adopt the baby as their own with the blessing of their pack leader, Akela.  The wolves were able to protect the baby and drive away the tiger.  The baby's new adoptive mother, Raksha named him Mowgli the frog, because of his hairlessness.  As Mowgli grew up, a panther named Bhageera and a bear named Baloo were given the task of educating him about "The Law of the Jungle".  His education included how to recite the "Master Words" for various species that identify the speaker as a friend.

About 11 years after Mowgli was adopted, Shere Khan hatched a plan to turn several of the younger wolves against their leader, Akela.  Just when the tiger was about to succeed in getting Akela killed, Mowgli foiled his plans by driving him away with a burning branch.  While the feral boy succeeded in driving away the tiger, he found that he could no longer stay with the pack and had to return to humanity.  He made a vow to return on day and lay Shere Khan's hide upon the Council Rock.

After finding his way to a human village, Mowgli was adopted by a bereaved couple due to his resemblance to their long-lost son Nathoo.  While Mowgli's new adoptive mother, Messua would like to believe her son had returned, she realizes that this is unlikely.  During the next few months, Mowgli lived with humans and learned their language and their customs.  While he was out herding buffalo, one of his wolf brothers, Grey warned him that Shere Khan was after him again.  Taking advantage of a buffalo stampede, Mowgli was able to take his revenge on Shere Khan and fulfill his vow.  Unfortunately, due to his ability to communicate with animals, the human villagers believed him to be a shapeshifting sorcerer and a drove him away.  With Shere Khan gone, the wolf pack offered to take him back, but the feral child refused to forgive them for casting him out earlier.  Mowgli decided to instead become a lone hunter, making an exception only for his four brothers.

Shortly after becoming a lone hunter, Mowgli went on several more adventures, including finding an ancient treasure called "The King's Ankus".  While exploring some ancient ruins in an abandoned human city, he came across another ancient artifact that came with a puzzle.  Using the "Master Words" he had been taught as a child, he was eventually able to solve the artifact's puzzle and activate it.  After touching the activated artifact, he gained the ability to shapeshift into any animal he was familiar with, the most obvious being the wolf.  While he found the ability quite useful, he seldom relied upon it as he was already well versed with traversing through the jungle.  Still, the opportunity to hunt with his brothers as a proper wolf gave him a great amount of joy he never knew he could ever experience.

Some time later, he came across an English forest ranger named Gisborne.  Impressed with the young man's extraordinary skills in hunting, tracking, and driving wild animal, Gisborne ask him to join the forestry service.  Mowgli agreed and over time, learned the English language.  With Gisborne's help and encouragement, Mowgli was able to investigate the identities of his biological parents.  With the help of his animal friends and a clue from his wolf-mother about where he was found, he was able to track down the ancient ruins that his biological parents were studying.  After finding their belongings, Mowgli would learn the identities of his biological parents, Mark and Marie Logan.  While Marie (or Mariya) was a local, Professor Mark Logan was a scholar from London.  He also found out that the name they decided for him was Garfield Logan.

After thinking it over for several days, Mowgli made the decision to journey to London to learn more about his father's side of the family.

Played by: Deathnote

Faceclaim: Tyler Posey

Plot Hooks Part of the reason why he's in London is to learn more about his biological father's side of the family, the Logans.

How long has he been in London for?

I was going to let that depend on GM need. I would sincerely say at least a few months, if not more. Urban legend status achieved, due to his exploits. He would be known to them by his nom de guerre, Talos

I actually had a thought that you might want to tie your character to a Victorian version of Project Cadmus, or branch of British Intelligence bankrolling scientists into the mystical and fringe (and who could have also likely bankrolled Victor Frankenstein's expedition as well). It gives your character a chance to  be in London for a while, under heavy supervision. I'm happy to kick possibilities around with you if we want, so you can make your backstory both your own and easy to manage.

Ooh!  Oh!  I just thought of something!  Maybe I could have Doom Patrol be tied to the Victorian version of Project Cadmus.

Basically, one of the reasons why Mowgli's in London is because his grandfather had recently passed away.  Old family friends, Steve Dayton and Rita Farr went off to find Professor Mark Logan and his wife Mariya.  They find out what happened to the Logans and further investigations led them to finding Mowgli, AKA Garfield Logan.  Steve, as one of the wealthiest men in the world, could be connected to Project Cadmus as one of their financial backers and be the one who bankrolled Victor Frakenstein's expedition.  He could also be connected to Alexander Luthor in some way.  He plots to take custody of Garfield Logan (on the grounds that he's too feral to take care of himself) so that he could gain access to the Logan estate.

Please take good care of yourself, Mister B. We will all still be here when you are ready to go, till then, get some rest and some prime recuperation.

I only wanna be your self-inflicted wound.
It sees you, baby. The friction between me and you.
Show me what makes you human, I'll show you vulnerable.
You bend, you break, you surrender and melt like solid gold.

Sorry for the double post, but here she is ^w^

Hero Name: Raven

Identity: Rowena Rothchild

Secret or Public Identity: Secret

Origin of Powers: Half demon biology and mystical training.

Description (Appearance):
Reference Image
Raven is a fairly tall woman, only an inch shy of six feet, with long, lustrous black hair and deep blue eyes.  When she uses her powers, however, those eyes turn crimson red, almost like the color of fresh blood.

Personality: In public Raven is polite, reserved, soft spoken, and acts the proper lady just like she should.  She hates it, of course, but she doesn’t want to draw attention to herself in her day to day life.  When she’s allowed to shed the Rowena persona, however, she turns into a confident, snarky, takes no bullshit from anyone, mystical powerhouse that knows how to wear a scandalously revealing dress.  Sex is as much of a weapon as anything else, after all, though the first time she put it on she turned as red as a ripe tomato.

Powers: As a half demon, Raven is both stronger and tougher than the average human being, able to withstand blows that would otherwise seriously injure others.  Her physical strength is on a tier just above your everyday human as well, but she’s no Wonder Woman; no lifting cars here, folks.

She is also both a telempath and a sorceress of no small skill.  She is limited to an extent, of course, but she has a wide variety of abilities at her disposal.  The downside, however, is that she can only access two of these powers at a time, as she is constrained by her mortal body's ability to handle such energies within its fragile, fleshy shell.  However, these abilities can be swapped out thanks to the meditation techniques that Azar taught her, so with two hours notice she can change them to suit a looming situation depending on what she's going to face.  These abilities include, but are not limited to: energy projection, her accessing and using her Soul Self, telekinesis, telepathy, empathic healing, and even the power of flight.

Special Skills and Background Perks: Thanks to her upbringing and training, Raven is a skilled botanist and alchemist, using her Rowena persona to open an apothecary with the money she was given by her mentor.  She’s not personally wealthy, but she’s well off enough that she can be comfortable in her day to day life.  She’s also a decent hand to hand combatant, having been forced to learn to fight in order to survive the first few weeks of flight from what had once been her home.

Special Equipment: The Ajna Chakra - A gem embedded in Raven’s forehead.  It acts as a focus for her powers and aids in her efforts to control her darker side through meditation and stringent control of her own emotions.

The Pendant of Azar - An amulet gifted to her by the Sage Azar; it hides her from the eyes of the Church of Blood.  Otherwise they could track her with relative ease.

Brief History: Raven was once from a family of considerable status, her father a player in the great game of politics and her mother an avid socialite, seeking to aid her husband however she could.  She was raised by nannies and, occasionally, her mother, and taught everything they felt she should know as a proper young lady.  It turned out, however, that this idyllic life was, in fact, a mask worn by her parents to disguise their true motives.

On the day she turned eighteen, Raven discovered that her eyes were glowing bright red and she sported an extra pair of them upon her brow.  When she screamed in fear and horror at her reflection, her parents, who had expected this day for quite some time, came to offer her comfort.  She should not be afraid, they told her, for she was blessed by her lord father Trigon.  Her father wasn’t actually her father, simply the man chosen to help raise her, while her mother had been chosen by Trigon to bear his seed and give birth to the chosen one.  Raven was overwhelmed and with a second scream, this one shattering the windows, she vanished into darkness.

The first use of her powers, uncontrolled and instinctual as it was, left her in the middle of nowhere.  While she tried to find civilization, the Church of Blood, the cult that her “parents” belonged to, used their rituals and her blood to track her down.  Three weeks of running and fighting for her freedom followed, until one day a woman, an enemy of the Church of Blood, found her and spirited her away.  This woman was the Sage Azar, the latest in a long line of mystics who have fought the Church for centuries.  The Sage took Raven under her wing, teaching her how to control her powers, suppress her demonic heritage, and gifting her with an amulet that would hide her from the Church’s eyes.

Azar instructed her to go to London, claiming to have seen a vision of Trigon’s throne rising above the city’s ashes.  Reluctant as she was to leave the safety of Azar’s sanctum, Raven obeyed her mentor’s wishes.  She was given enough money to set up a business as an apothecary/pharmacist, and the skills she’d learned from Azar would be of use in this regard.  Now Raven hunts the wicked of London, all while doing her best to stay out of the sight of the Church of Blood.  Of course if she’d known just how far reaching the Church’s grasp truly was, she never would have agreed to move to London in the first place.

Plot Hooks The Church of Blood - a bunch of idiots that decided it’d be a great idea to worship a demon lord and try to bring him across the dimensional barriers into our reality.  Unfortunately this particular group of idiots is a powerful one, with influence in many countries in Europe, including key members of the British parliament.  Raven is the key to their plans, and so they will stop at nothing to get her back.

The Crusaders - Descendants of the crusade that was butchered by those who would become the Church of Blood.  They want Raven dead because they don’t want Trigon crossing over.  Since she objects to being killed, of course, they come into conflict with one another as a result.
