I prefer to buy them new, despite being poor, as it's MY way to show I want the devs to get the money for making more games.
.

I probably should have qualified that a bit. I have only been playing games for a few years, and am in the process of building a collection. Many of the older games are well over $100 to get new. So I buy them used (like new). Games that have come out in the last year or so I have generally bought new. A few I have even pre-ordered. I just can't see paying two to three times as much for a new game that is over three years old.

That's different.  If they're so old that the original company has already made their money, then I too will buy used.  But when they're NEW?  I prefer to buy them new, rather than wait for someone to return the game.

So I make a A&A thread but do I put it here?  No.  Of course not.

I'll buy new but it depends on the game though.  I'm getting The Last of Us new but I'd wait to get Metro: Last Light used.

Guys, my statement is not meant as a value judgement.  I apologize if it seems that way.

I buy games new, because I believe that doing so is MY way of showing support to a hobby I love.  What everyone else does is up to them, and will not affect my purchasing decisions.  And I don't think that my preferences should dictate someone else's.

*chuckles* I have had The Last of Us on Pre-Order for two months. Should be at my door on Friday.

It's a good way to look at it Chris. :D The only time I wait on a game is when I want to see what the public reviews are first. I don't much trust the Game Hype Sites. I am especially leery of difficulty levels. I'd love to play Dark Souls, but will likely never give it a go since I am an idiot with a gamepad.

Likely attack mode: Jump - Jump - damn - Roll -Block, where the hell is my weapon? GAME OVER

I could go into quite the detail explaining why I don't like Dark Souls and its ilk.  But I won't.

The only time I'll buy something used if its in the 3-6 year old range, when its not old enough for people who horded copies to really be selling them yet and when its just old enough that there's no new ones being delivered to stores. I had to do that with a few of my games, namely Mirror's edge and Metal Gear Solid 4.
By the same token though, I wont buy it digitally, even if that counts as a new copy effectively, because I don't like not having a physical proof of purchase should something happen to my account.

E3 is going to be very interesting this year I think. From the consoles but also to the games that have been announced, games yet to be announced and more.

Personally I'm hoping for news of The Last Guardian. I couldn't stand Ico or Shadow of the Collossus, but just the nature of Trico, along with the developments of AI and the sheer amount of 'escort' games coming out lately and the design of them (Bioshock Infinite, The Last of Us, etc) and how that has moved along so much from say Resident Evil 4.

Slywyn

Man I loved Shadow of the Colossus.

It had such epic boss battles.

It was nothing BUT Boss battles, so yeah it had BETTER have been good.  Luckily it was.  Even if the ending was a let down.

I personally just really struggled with the control scheme. I found it difficult and clunky to use. It is one of those games though, people either love it or cant stand it I've found, bit like Mirror's Edge.
I certainly appreciate the design that it achieved and the things it added to the industry, even if I don't like the fact that 90% of bosses these days are massive giants which is really boring as its the same formula in ever game (find weak spot, shoot weak spot, avoid until you can see the next weal spot)

Please do. I myself am not particularity fond of the Souls games and it's hard to find people that aren't fan-defensive about it. I picked up Demon's Souls a while ago and didn't have that good of a time. The challenge wasn't killing factor for the game, it was the tediousness of being insta-killed then losing all of your progress and having to start over again without anyway to get stronger before you go to retrieve your souls.

But I digress. I would be up to hearing your opinion on the franchise.

I'll buy used whenever I feel like I can wait for it. If I can't I pre-order and pay it off a bit at a time. I haven't got enough money to buy new all the time. :|
Plus, I wouldn't be able to buy as many games new as I do without trade-in credit.

Unless Microsoft is just as good at intensivizing trad-ins as much as GameStop (I find their members club cheap but very rewarding in the long run) for instance I finally got fifty-percent off a new game. I payed GameStop 30 bucks for Tomb Raider and Crystal Dynamics got their full cut. I think as long as people are buying games (used or new) they're ultimately helping the developers. Like the guy who buys company X's game used might by Company X's sequel new.
If you're searching the lines for a point, well you've probably missed it; there was never anything there in the first place.

Remember Microsoft left it to the developers to allow trade-ins.  So Microsoft isn't responsible for trade-ins or used games being sold.  /sarcasm.

Yes, because it totally hasn't been the developers pushing for used games to become a thing of the past the entire time. =p

Good one Microsoft, noone is going to be able to trace that back to you now.

No microsoft left it to the publishers. the developers get no say and may not even get a cut of the money

Slywyn

That's what I meant.

I'm no expert on this so I'll probably get the terms wrong now and again. xD

Point remains that Microsoft left whether or not you can buy games used up to the people who have been trying to kill off used game sales for years.

That's not really a choice at all, is it? Might as well have said you can't buy used games.
