True.  I do have a couple of ideas for a Captain.  One something like the Captain that I was going to use in your game.  Another, would be a Core world dandy, but one deadly with the sword, maybe a little gun skill.  But not so sure how he might take to having a Companion on board.

If I do end up running the Captain, it would be his ship.  He would work with the Companion, so she could keep her schedule.  I am not saying one of the others can't be Captain, just doesn't seem like anyone wants the job.

On another note, would there be any objections if I were to run the game in the Light, Normal section?  Not to sure how well I could run a female on female scene.

Well, the idea was to play Aetherton Wing (from "Shinding").  Had the thought that he had a bad run of business luck since his duel with Mal, and put all the blame on his misfortune on Mal, and set out to even the score.  Maybe over the course of the campaign, mellowing out a bit, becoming something of a good guy.  But, probably not ever running across Mal.

Think he could be charming when he wanted to be.  But, probably not to someone who was "beneath" him.  I had thought it might be interesting, to see if he might change as he was exposed to the... rough side of life.

The other idea was a Alliance veteran, who did some nasty things during the war.  Now, is trying to leave that behind, or perhaps, redeem himself.

Let's see if we get a Captain yet.  So, how is the doctor coming along?  Need any help, just let me know.

Wing may not think a Companion beneath him, doubt he has much good feeling towards Companions, as least after Shindig.  But, will probably use the other idea, the war veteran.  He wouldn't have much against a Companion.

As for starting, was still waiting on a couple of people to get me their characters.  Had planned to run a short combat, so every could see how the system plays, let people make any final changes in their characters, and then start the game.

1)  What did your character do during the War?  Which side was he or she on, if any?  Was it voluntary, or were they drafted?  Did you lose anyone you cared about?
She was on the main military planet of the Alliance Mars, at the small Guild Academy on the orbiting pleasure station Aphrodesia, run by The Guild for the pleasure of the fleet. She was kind of on the Alliance side but before the war an outspoken DOVE even joining in a huge public demonstration at the Alliance capital. She like a vocal minority thought letting the rim planets have some constitutional independance and focus on trade- but going to war was a drastic step. She was arrested it was only the intervention of her family and her mother a retired Companion that kept her out of a reform colony. During the war she still was on the DOVE camp and rather outspoken so the family got her into a Guild Academy where their daughter coud stay out of trouble. During the war she lost a sister and a brother suring the war the former an Alliance Intelligence agent that died taking out a general for the Brown Coats.

2)  What are you hobbies?  How do you pass the time away?
As a Companion she has many interests Art, Music (enjoys playing the guitar and singing), Reading and Athletics. A sound mind and a sound body are important to her.

3)  What kind of first impression do you think you make?
Well she is a Companion she is a force of feminine power that is regal and beautiful so acts the part. She does tend to dress well and is made up flawlessly. She is what everyone expects in a Companion and she is proud of that.

4)  Where were you born?  How did you wind up on Persephone?
Mars, on one of the smaller towns common with the highest ranking military families and political types. She did spend some time on Earth in China for her early education and then to a private academy for her middle education in the Pacific NW for women only in both cases. She came to Persephone after joining the new Guild House Nova Ascendant focusing in the rim that actively recruited any young Companion they could. A new "clique" in The Guild and newly chartered they are out to claim turf no one else wants right now. Proudly wear the Guild Pin a Nova Star of Silver on a Red Back- on the edge four gems a diamond, opal, jade and ruby representing the four founding Companions. The House HQ is on Persephone likely the fanciest building on the planet. Rumors are they plan an academy here at some point to train more rustic Companions but right now that's being fought by the major Guild Houses especially House Venusia the most powerful and prestigious dominating the Sol Sector (Earth and the planets).

5)  Describe your quarters?  Are there pictures or other mementos on the walls, desk, whatever?  If so, what?  Also, where do you hide any valuables or illegal pieces of equipment from prying eyes.
She lives on the shuttle made up as a living quarters and holy place for her work with the main feature a large bed where the top rises and underneath a hot bath with its own filters and recycling system, over that a mirror. The bed is a four poster bed with sheer silk curtains otherwise. Overall the place has an alter, a Roman-style couch, bed, work station to make appointments, closet and lots of odds and ends. She has a small safe hidden under the alter build into the floor small but that's where she keeps her valuables hidden. In this case some fine jewelry.

After reading about Companions in the link I redid her downgraded her combat skills but she did have some self-defense training kind of powder-puff combat and upgraded Linguistics since they seem to push the softer skills. She is trained to pilot a little and some hands-on skills for working on shuttles systems in a pinch. But I tried to emmulate a young Copmpanion just out of one of The Guild academies.

I came up with some Companion rules if you like them we can talk about using them.:

1. Do not fall in love. Though the companion may find him or herself wanting for the love of another the potential for it to affect their commitment to the job and guild can be great.

2. Do not interfere with a relationship. If it is found that the client is calling a Companion out of infidelity the client must be denied service and reported to the guild. Only if both the client and spouse are in agreement to the call for a Companions services may the Companion accept.

3. If a client cannot pay for the services of the Companion they are obligated to the Companion until such a time as the debt is settled.

4. The Companion may refuse service to a client for any reason, at any time; even if service was previously agreed upon. If services have been payed then the payment must be returned. A report must be filed with the guild with the reason the service was denied.

5. Anyone wishing to petition for a Companions services must be registered with the Guild as a client. Once accepted, the client must then submit a request each time service is desired from a Companion. [Would guarentee that the client could pay and that Rule 2 is generally not going to be a problem.]

6. A Companion chooses his or her clients. A client may request a Companion, but there is no guarantee that the Companion will choose the client.

7. Anything shared with a Companion is priveledged information. A Companion may not be asked to divulge any information shared while with a client. [We may allow this under a Court Order if approved by The Guild- so maybe in cases of treason or High Crimes against the Alliance but would generally be shielded like a cleric in confession for other situations.]

Also I was thinking that there should be Guild benefits such as legal support and the like after all they are a powerful organization in the 'verse and should get a solid 25% share of the Companion fees. But would have benefits like legal protection for her practicing her trade, support and access to clients that are on the Guild client list. Remember in that one episode Inara pretty much was going to have that asshole black listed so Companions clearly have serious power to screw up a clients good standing. Also maybe we could also add in different Houses within The Guild also one upstart one that is exclusively sending members to the rim and others established in the Core Worlds all loyal to The Guild but having some extra clout in areas like one might have Earth locked down likely the oldest and most powerful. Another might favor a certain world or sector. Another might have people working on Luxury Liners and space stations devoted to pleasure. Hers would be going where no Companion has gone before but where the future is so she would be active at securing markets and making a name for herself.

Just some role-playing ideas.

Think you have 4 points to spend on Attributes.  As for the rules, they look good.  The only one I don't see is number 3.  Don't think a Companion would take a client that couldn't pay.  As for how much they would charge, I think it would be up to the Companion.

As a side note, if the Guild finds out someone has a Lovebot, they are immediately black listed.

RogueJedi, was awaiting a response from my last PM.  Did the Attributes look okay?

My character is cagey if she had a woman that couldn't afford more than the Guild cut she would likely take her for an indentured debt, debts are power and woman in a good position could be useful if that debt is kept in ones pocket for the right time. True its unlikely most payments would very likely go through the Guild after all they register clients as acceptable and likely have a base fee they expect, tips and gifts would be extra. I don't think it matters anyone that could afford her would have the money and access to The Guild information net so I will keep that off the game threads. I'll assume they pay her and it would sting the purse a bit. Companions are not inexpensive by far.

Remember payment does not have to be in credits I'm sure The Guild would not mind a client owing it favors through a Companion- its still a political faction and a very powerful one it didn't get there being nice.  ;)

You are right there, am sure the Guild wouldn't mind a client or two owing them favors.  That could be useful.  Also think they might be a little antsy if a Companion had to many clients owing them money.  Might think the Companion was taking on too many charity cases.

I never said it was common I would thing The Guild would favor normal methods like Political Action Committees and Lobbiests, Financing Politicians and other methods most powerful groups would use. She likely wouldn't unless the client was a regular where she could trust the debt would be paid back.

And I'm sure The Guild has a minimum fee they are a business and need a certain amount of money to guarentee the Companions are not going cheap without a permission from The Guild or a Guild Request to the Companion. Like giving her as a present to a Senator for some key vote.  ;)

Think of them as an escort service you are going to pay a certain amount no matter what and the Companion can ask more in negotiation with the client.

But Inara in that one episode had the son of that Colony leader help her as a favor get Serenity safely off the planet so their influence tends to be more subtle and sweet.

Don't think the son of the magistrate helping to lift the landlock had anything to do with Inara's payment.  I am sure that it was the magistrate who paid Inara's fee.  Think she sensed a little rebellious streak in the son, and nudged him to lift the land lock.

SwedishSteel, are you still interested in playing?  If so, what kind of doctor do you want to be.  A Core world surgeon, maybe setting out to offer his services to them that needs it?  A combat medic, looking for work?

I will help out all I can with the game mechanics.  But, would like to have some idea of a very general background before starting out.  Don't want to create some softie from the Core Worlds if you had a combat medic in mind, for example.

LOL.

Am sending off a request for a game now.

A quick character quiz.  Feel free to answer it however you want, and either here of in PM, if there is something you don't want out in the open.  I will give one Plot Point per question answered.

Ariel in the large green city of Janishia home to the most powerful families in the Alliance and most with service records in the military going back many generations besides hands in trade and politics mostly older members retired from military officer duty. She came to Persephone after joining the new Guild House Nova Ascendant focusing in the rim that actively recruited any young Companion they could. ooc:
I took some liberties and made her a member of an upstart House in The Guild one moving to consolidate the Rim business for its members over the older houses- while the getting is good. After all territory in the Core Worlds is pretty well all claimed its the final frontier for some younger ambitious members.  ;D

Just some clique' roleplaying, The Guild comes first after all to any Companion but that does not mean factions don't exist.

Astalinnon

1)  What did your character do during the War?  Which side was he or she on, if any?  Was it voluntary, or were they drafted?  Did you lose anyone you cared about?

Jason stayed out of the war until the last two years, when he first really started getting into the mercenary business. He worked under a rather well known gun runner, John Betrix, who supplied many of the rim planets with many, many weapons. Jason voluntarily started working for him, and was happy about it even after the war ended. Shortly afterwards, John Betrix was killed in a trade that was indirectly related to the war.

2)  What are you hobbies?  How do you pass the time away?

Jason loves to keep in shape. He loves any sort of athletics, running and weight lifting especially, and spends a good portion of his time doing that. At the same time, his childhood love of fantasy and virtual reality worlds have stayed with him, and can often be found playing with a virtual reality gaming device he has with him.

3)  What kind of first impression do you think you make?

Jason certainly is friendly and light hearted to those he just meets. While he is rather intimidating, for the most part, he makes a kind first impression.

4)  Where were you born?  How did you wind up on Persephone?

Jason was born on Sihnon originally, though he won't often talk about it. He wound up on Persephone after a few months of looking for jobs after John Betrix was killed. Here, he hopes to find any way to earn a little money, since things are starting to get a little tight.

5)  Describe your quarters?  Are there pictures or other mementos on the walls, desk, whatever?  If so, what?  Also, where do you hide any valuables or illegal pieces of equipment from prying eyes.

Jason's quarters aren't particularly memorable... He has a compact set of weights and a corner of his room cleared out to use them in, on the opposite side of his perpetually unkempt bed. The bed is far from ornate, but it does look very comfortable and sturdy, the equivalent of a queen sized bed, with only a single pillow and a large, comfortable looking blanket adorning it. At the foot of the bed, there is a footlocker which acts as a dresser for the mercenary. The only thing on the walls that can even be thought of as a decoration is a mirror on the wall, and a very, very old picture of five people: one looking almost like Jason but much younger, a younger boy and a younger girl, as well as two distinguished looking parent figures. As for weaponry, Jason's pistol is kept in his footlocker and his knife is kept lying on a makeshift shelf on one of the walls, neither of which are particularly hidden. However, there is a loose panel in the room in which he stores his assault rifle, a copious amount of ammunition and body armor, as well as whatever else he may need to hide.
