"It cannot be seen, cannot be felt,
Cannot be heard, cannot be smelt,
It lies behind stars and under hills,
And empty holes it fills,
It comes first and follows after,
Ends life, kills laughter."
-J.R.R. Tolkien,
The Hobbit

A modern fantasy story-driven sandbox, Black Dawn is the story of a people displaced from their home, facing a deadly foe from their own realm that threatens them all; all the while new enemies begin to emerge not only within their own ranks, but born from the world they must now inhabit. It's the year 2017, and three years ago the people of earth became aware of a terrible reality: all of those stories, those legends, and those creatures that make up the great depths of history aren't just stories. The supernatural to the outright mythical came to the world seeking refuge from a calamity plaguing their world, one humanity didn't even know existed. Humanity classifies these creatures as faeries, and begins to evaluate these things place in the world; however they soon find that the threat the faeries face is not one intent to spare them from its consuming corruption, and as more and more faeries flee to earth it too begins to fall victim to The Blight - a monstrous magical force that turns the faeries into twisted echoes of themselves, and summons terrible power and creatures all on its own.

Faerie is a classification coined by humanity, one used to describe what the fantastical creatures appearing on their world are; the truth, however is that they are called the Seelie, a magical race of beings that form the basis for most of humanities legends - humans, all of this time may not have been aware of the Seelie, but since the start of it all the Seelie have been aware of both worlds, Earth and The Golden Dream. Unlike the creatures of earth, and even humanity itself, the Seelie are a people who are different each generation; every Seelie is distinctly unique, and unified by the fact that they are Seelie, not by whatever subraces humanity might classify them as. For ages uncountable the Seelie lived peacefully in the Golden Dream under the guidance and leadership of The Conclave - their ruling body. Behind the scenes some Seelie interacted with humanity, using the great Dream Gates to pass between the realms as needed but by Seelie law, most of such interactions were done without approval - the Conclave believed that the Seelie should not interfere with the development of humans, and since each set of people had their own world that interaction should only happen when absolutely needed. The Circle broke apart from the Conclave because of this stance on things, and largely they believed that the Seelie were masters of the realms and so they should tred and do as they pleased, regardless of the consequences to humanity. Eventually another faction would form, a break away from both the Conclave and the Circle, one comprised of rogue Seelie who saw themselves as gods among men, The Assembly of Dusk and humanity should directly serve their Seelie masters.

The Blight was a fact of life for Seelie, ever a threat looming in the backs of their minds. What caused a rare phenomenon to become a plague spreading wildly across the Golden Dream is anyone's guess, and even the eldest Seelie can't be certain what changed. Within a handful of years, however, the Blight had ravaged the dream and corrupted huge portions of it - worse yet it corrupted every Seelie that it touched, creating a whole new species, the terrifying Unseelie. These corrupted Seelie are monsters in the bodies of men, twisted and turned into vile echoes of their former selves, with their power intact and even seemingly enhanced by the darkness now festering within them. Unlike in the past, the Unseelie seem to serve some dark master, some sinister agenda now. These empowered Unseelie combine with the raw twisted magics of the manifested Blight itself has forced the Seelie from their home, The Golden Dream, and to Earth where they must suddenly integrate with humanity and attempt to find their place in this world, while dealing with the problems of their own - which just so happen to also be spilling over.

F. A. Q.

  • Game Masters, who are they?
Wispyr is the mind behind Black Dawn and operates as its primary GM. At this time there is no Co-GM, however it is very likely I will be looking to take one on - if interested, please send me a PM, otherwise I'll be looking at outstanding members of the cast to potentially take on this role in the future.
  • Who is allowed to play in Black Dawn?
Anyone. Black Dawn is open to any Lord, Lady or Liege who is interested in the setting, provided that they have read and are able to follow the game rules - as well as any and all applicable Elliquiy rules. This game is LGBTQA & Rainbow Writer friendly, and all players are expected to respect that. Further cross-gender writers are permissible, though we do ask that you not use Black Dawn as your play ground to test out this writing style and already be comfortable doing so.
  • How many characters can each player have?
We are looking to limit players to two characters at this time, only one of which may be a Seelie. That said we may be open to expanding this to three, depending on level of interest. Beyond these limitations further characters will be looked at on a case by case basis.
  • This game has already started, but I want to join, what do I do?
Follow the standard creation protocols. Black Dawn is a game based around totally open recruitment, so there should never be a point when we are not accepting new characters.
  • Can I play a bad guy?
Not in the traditional sense of the word, no. Black Dawn has sufficient 'bad guys' baked right into the story. That said, given the various moral compass of the Seelie as a whole and the available factions you're not obligated to play a 'good guy' either.
  • How are adult scenes handled in this game?
We'll likely have a side thread set aside where such scenes should be taking place.
  • What are the writing expectations of this game?
All posts - GM posts aside - should be written in third person, past tense. We do not expect a firm word count in posts, however posts should contain enough content for others involved to work with for their own posts; as a general rule roughly 300 words - three solid paragraphs - should be sufficient for posts; this is an aspect of the game that we monitor fairly closely. Finally we use a very firm seven day posting cycle in the primary story threads - all players are expected to post no later then that long after their relevant GM post (or previous partners in such cases where a firm posting order is established). All posts in the game use tag headers, except for GM posts.
  • What board does this game take place in?
Extreme Small Groups. The content of this game will likely hit points of extremely graphic. No player will attempt to push you to write story elements that you are not comfortable with, however with that said, the world is not a nice place and will contain non-con and potentially other 'hard' kink elements for setting purposes. Interactions with individual players are tailored to their individual limitations, you won't be forced to participate in something that makes you ill, but it may happen elsewhere in the game - you have been warned.
  • I've mad a sheet, what do I do from here?
Simply PM it to Wispyr with the subject line of: Black Dawn CS - (Character Name). Do not neglect the proper subject line, please.

Rules

  • No Drama: We're all adults here. There are better ways to handle any given situation than throwing a tantrum and stomping your feet.
  • No Drama: We're very serious about this. It will not be tolerated, and if you are the source of it you will be expelled from the game.
  • Word Count: We no longer enforce a hard word count in main story threads, however we expect that every post have enough content for other players and GM(s) to work with. This usually means no less than 300 words / 3 solid paragraphs. This is closely monitored and posts we do not feel are sufficient will be asked to be added to or removed.
  • Post Frequency: We use a very firm 7 day posting guideline in most situations.
  • OOC Chatter: Should be kept at all times out of the IC threads, and contained to the appropriate Out of Character thread - which you should feel free to play around in!
  • Communicate: Communication is key. It is imperative that you keep the GM(s) informed of what is going on. If you're going to be away for awhile we can often work with that if you let us know - however if you damage the games health by going silent without a heads up you could find yourself expelled from the game. We're very PM friendly, don't hesitate to shoot us a message about anything.
  • Engage Others: At the end of the day we're all here to have fun. We will not sit by and watch someone be excluded from the game. Include everyone who is approved, support those who are interest and be proactive in making efforts to engage other players and characters.

The Story

Five years. Five very short years. The Golden Dream stood for eons, it was ancient before the Earth was young. It is a realm of magic that has withstood the most potent magics, wars of creatures unimaginable, and strife between factions clawing for more influence. In five years the great dream was brought to its knees; a once rare phenomenon called the Blighting began to manifest within the realm itself. A growing corruption rapidly spreading across the lush landscapes of the Golden Dream, consuming everything in its path. The Seelie who called the great dream home fell victim to the encroaching corruption, their forms, minds, and spirits becoming twisted and turned into vile creatures known as the Unseelie. As the darkness on the horizon grew, The Conclave of Dreams rallied Seelie forces to stand against this evil - even their advesaries The Circle of Thorns came together in an effort to stand against The Blight. Even their combine efforts proved to be too little to preserve the land, and while united they stalled the advance they knew it would not be long until the great dream was lost to them altogether. As the Dreamgates - the path ways between the two worlds - began to fall into the hands of the enemy, and more and more of The Golden Dream became corrupted the Seelie were left with little recourse other than to flee to Earth and hope to form a new plan.

That was three years ago.

In the three years that have followed the Seelie have found themselves with enemies on all sides. The tense alliance between The Conclave and The Circle has shattered. The Assembly of Dusk - a third, rogue, faction of the Seelie have grown in number and made this new life among the humans even more difficult. The Conclave suffered terrible loses when two of its seven leaders were claimed by The Blight; with their remaining leaders and those who remained loyal, they approached the governments of Earth in hopes to find a place where they could live in peace away from humanity so that both sides did not need to interfere with one another. Humanity, of course, was hardly ready to comprehend and handle the revelation that not only were they not alone in the universe but these Faeries were walking among them. People quickly became divided, those where were pro-faerie, those who were anti-faerie and a whole slew falling between the two extremes. These awkward relations between The Conclave and the United Nations were further complicated when the Assembly began its crusade against humanity. Before the year was out S.A.F.E. (Security Against Faerie Encroachment) was created - an organization backed by the United Nations to handle negotiations with the Faeries fleeing to the world, but also tasked with protecting the world against them.

In 2016 Earth got its first taste of what the Seelie were running from - The Blight. Now in control of most of The Golden Dream, The Blight was able to pass to Earth through the great Dreamgates. The Conclave and The Circle both acknowledged that this war was their problem, not humanities and rose to defend the people of earth from the corruption. Unfortunately with wildly different ideas on how to handle the situation, it got much worse before it got any better.

Earth is now the home to not just Humans, but the Seelie who have fled from The Golden Dream - most of which has been lost to The Blight. Humanity is struggling to deal with the reality that the supernatural creatures that have not only influenced their histories but in some cases steered entire portions of their civilizations are not just myths, but real and now walking among them. These super powered individuals must be accounted for, and dealt with, but there are a wide array of ideas on how to handle that. The Seelie have lost their home and been evicted to a land that is foreign, and they suddenly need to deal with a people - Humans - who are in many cases not prepared to handle them. Further their entire people are fragmented and split, utterly divided on how to proceed in this new world; ontop of which they have this enemy who threatens to turn them into the subserviant Unseelie always looming not very far in the distance. While many Seelie have been lost to the corruption, they are reinforced by suddenly being forced to acknowledge the Fay and the Kindred, the common link between them and humanity - yet another thing humans as a whole have to suddenly deal with.

The Details

The Conclave of Dreams

For nearly as long as the Seelie have been around in large groups the Conclave has existed. Shortly after the first settlement of Seelie was built within The Golden Dream, The Conclave came together, a group of elder Seelie who were well respected and often turned to for guidance anyway. As the Seelie became more and more unified these elders took on an official role in the society, and thus the first Conclave was born. Since that time the mantle has been passed down to new generations when a member of the seven-person council has decided to step down or more regretfully Faded - in both cases, the remaining members of the Conclave have turned to pillars of the society, those with influence and respect and selected a replacement.

The Conclave represnts the government which has historically ruled over the majority of the Seelie - approximately 70% or so. They have, largely, maintained stability and peace among the people and kept The Golden Dream and the Seelie themselves safe. To accomplish this they passed a number of decrees by which the Seelie have been expected to exist by:

The First Decree: Also called the "Words of the Realm", the First Decree states that the Seelie belong within The Golden Dream and that humanity belongs on the Earth. It is not permissible for any Seelie to cross between the realms, using a Dreamgate or any other means, unless deemed appropriate and approved by the Conclave by a majority vote. Humanity is to live its own life, free from the influence of the Seelie.

The Second Decree: States that no Seelie will enter The Dreaming without an assigned Dreamguide, and that such activites will be monitored at all times by that same Dreamguide. This same decree also states that any Seelie found to have begun the Blighting will surrender themselves to the Conclave and be granted a merciful, and swift death.

The Third Decree: Says that no Seelie will interfere with the slumbering Primordials - their shrines are to be protected from outside influence and under no circumstance are they to be awakened.

Currently: With two members of the Conclave turned into Unseelie, and their decrees in many ways no longer applicable they have suffered some rather heavy losses. The Conclave believes that the best chance for Seelie survival is to work an arrangement out with the humans in order to create an agreement that benefits both sides - at least until such a time as The Blight can be dealt with and they can return back to The Golden Dream. While they may not outright agree with some of the procedures and things that S.A.F.E. wants to enact, they understand it is they who are tresspassers, and in this time they have to play ball in order to survive going forward. This has made The Conclave the most well liked from the perspective of humanity, even though in truth it's the Conclave that wants as little to do with humans as possible. As they have in the past The Conclave is dedicated to the destruction of The Assembly of Dusk, noting that their behavior undermines the ability of all Seelie to interact and progress with humanity. Further the Conclave is actively working to help humans deal with the encroaching Blight, but doing so on their terms as much as they can.

The Circle of Thorns

Many years after The Conclave was formed and the First Decree was made, there were those that did not believe in what was being done. Those of likemind broke away from the Conclave and ultimately became The Circle of Thorns, a secondary faction which grew large enough in strength and size to contend with The Conclave. The Circle believed that the Seelie had been given tools like The Dreaming and the Dreamgates because they were meant to be masters of the realm. To that end they should be able to come, and go as freely as they wanted, without any regard to the repercussions such activities might have on humanity. With this in mind The Circle eventually took control of a Dreamgate and began moving freely between the realms; it is because of members of the circle that many of the legends, myths and other fantastical stories humanity has conjured up exist.[/i]

Seelie Rights: Things like The Dreaming, the Dreamgates and magic are the birthright of all Seelie and should not be monitored by anyone. They should be used freely, and encouraged - regardless of what they might do to humanity, whom may not be unimportant but are certainly less important than any given Seelie and their freedoms.

Fay, Kindred & Awakened: Because of their frequent visits to Earth, it was members of the Circle who first discovered that Seelie and Humans could breed and produce viable offspring. These children were not quite Seelie, but far from human. A Seelie and Seelie mating always produces a Seelie offspring. A Seelie and a human or Fay always produces a Fay - a Fay and a Fay also produces a Fay, while a Fay and a human produces a Kindred. Two Kindred, or a Kindred and a Fay, or Seelie procudes another Kindred. However a Kindred and a human produces an Awakened. Two Awakened creates a new Kindred, but an Awakened and a human create only a new Awakened. These three types of sub-Seelie are litered throughout human history, and much like the Seelie themselves have inspired no shortage of legends.

Currently: Much like they have historically, the Circle does not believe that the Seelie should negotiate with humanity. While they do not actively oppose humanity, they don't go out of their way to support them either. The Circle has become very dedicated on dealing with the Blight and reclaiming the Golden Dream - regardless of what that means for humanity. Their blatant disregard for human lives and space has become a prime example of the reasons why the citizens of Earth are having a difficult time accepting their new Seelie world-buddies. The Circle does not approve of The Assembly, but they rarely actively hunt them either - unless they interfere with Circle operations as a whole. The Circle has no interest in S.A.F.E. or coexisting with humans; they view it as a reality that humanity must accept and get over.

The Assembly of Dusk

The Assembly of Dusk was created by Seelie who broke away from both factions because while they might have agreed with some of what The Circle of Thorns said, they outright opposed what the Conclave of Dreams preached. The Assembly of Dusk believes that the Seelie are the ultimate masters not just of the Golden Dream but of Earth as well, and that the Earth was placed their so that the humans could grow and eventually serve their Seelie masters. Where the Circle simply doesn't concern itself with humanity, The Assembly actively seeks to control it, and integrate humanity into Seelie society as a low class of servants and followers.

Currently: After finding themselves, like the rest of the Seelie, on Earth and confronted with the inevitable war with The Blight, The Assembly took to working against humanity. Their goal to control humans and turn them into fodder to use against the enemy has only grown worse since the Seelie have found themselves on the ropes. Because of the state of Seelie life, where their cause was once considered mostly taboo by all, their recruitment has gone up considerably as many Seelie are unwilling to tolerate the humans and want their home back - no matter the cost.

Department of Security Against Faerie Encroachment

Established in late 2014 by the United Nations, the Department of Security Against Faerie Encroachment was se tup to be the go to point for all Seelie contact. Funded and equipped by the UN, S.A.F.E. began setting up regulations and protocols for handling the Seelie across the globe. In the three years since the Seelie have been a well known thing on Earth, S.A.F.E. has worked tireless to deal with breakouts of The Blight, negotiate with The Conclave, fight against The Assembly and work to understand - or often, also fight against - The Circle. While S.A.F.E. is meant to be a neutral party in what's going on, trying to help humans accept the Seelie and the Seelie integrate, their primary objective is to protect the best interests of mankind.

Order 01: Any Faerie caught targeting humans, or human assets will be considered a enemy of the world and treated as such - regardless of circumstance. Faeries are not humans and thus not subject to human rights and procedures; enemies of the world will be treated as hostile combatants and killed on sight.

Order 18: In matters of dealing with "The Blight" on Earth, the Seelie are to differ to the judgement of the nearest and highest ranking S.A.F.E. officer. Failure to comply will result in branding disobdiant Seelie as enemies of the world.

Operation - Whitelist: A more recent suggestion that is still mostly in negotiations, S.A.F.E. wants to create a list of registered Seelie on Earth. Such registration would include documentation detailing not only who they are but what they are capable of. This process is meant to be a voluntary action, that will allow any Seelie on the Whitelist to integrate into normal human society on a level as any other citizen would be able to - however, any Seelie who is not approved and on the Whitelist will be subject to repercussions if caught by approved authorities and potentially imprisoned.

Lexicon

Awakened: A one-fourth Seelie; they have latent magic, but no natural abilities or magic to call upon.

Blighting: A rare event that corrupts a Seelie. Once afflicted by the Blighting no remedy has ever been found.

Classification: Human terminology given to various Seelie, such as: Vampire, Dragon or Phoenix. These are human names and descriptions given to Seelie that were the basis for these myths.

Dreamgate: A massive portal that bridges the two realms - The Golden Dream and Earth - together. These portals have fixed locations. and originally only four such gates existed. Over time, however, the Seelie learned how to replicate these and created five more. The nine total drop sites for the Dreamgates are as follows: Stonehendge, Easter Island, Menkaure, Fountain of Youth, Tintagel, Glastonbury Tor, Hells Gate, Devil's Kettle Falls, The Dragon Cave. Of these nine Dreamgates, only three remain controlled by the Seelie, while all others now belong to The Blight: Fountain of Youth, Stonehendge and Devil's Kettle Falls.

Dreamway: A magical bridge created on Earth to rapidly relocate around the globe; this is accomplished by allowing brief access to The Golden Dream.

Fay: A half-blood Seelie. The Fay are in many ways like the Seelie, though rarely as powerful. They often have fewer abilities, and less control over them but they are about as powerful as a human born person can hope to be.

Human: A race of beings that were born on Earth. The humans were not aware of the Seelie until the year 2014, and have no known magical potential at all - they can not enter The Dreaming.

Kindred: A one-third Seelie. Kindred can also be called mutants, as they have a single ability or magical power that can be either passive or active.

Primordial: The oldest of the Seelie, the unable to attain a human like form. They are some of the most powerful forces to ever have been created. They have been slumbering deep within The Golden Dream for eons.

S.A.F.E.: A human based organization, funded by the United Nations - the Department of Security Against Faerie Encroachment. This is not only a political organization, but a pseudo-military task force dedicated to controlling the Faeries that spill into Earth, as well as dealing with the Blight that follows them.

Seelie: A magical race of beings that were born within The Golden Dream. By humans the Seelie are called Faeries (and numerous other things).

The Blight: A corruption that originated within The Golden Dream, with unknown origins. The Blight spreads across the land, corrupting it and warping it from a dream into something more akin to a nightmare. Seelie touched by the Blight undergo the process of the Blighting, and become twisted servants of this dark force.

The Assembly of Dusk: A rogue faction of Seelie seeking to enslave humanity and control the earth for the betterment of all Seelie. They believe that the Seelie are the ultimate beings, destined to inherit both realms.

The Circle of Thorns: A political faction within the world of the Seelie that believes that The Conclave is too strict and oppressive of the Seelie.

The Conclave of Dreams: The ruling body of the Seelie world. The Conclave has ruled and guided the majority of the Seelie people since nearly the start of their civilization. In recent times however, they have begun to fracture under the pressure of the massive changes their people are facing.

The Dreaming: An ritual that allows a Seelie to transcend their physical form and enter The Eternal Dream, a spiritual realm. The Dreaming is a sacred ritual, and one often viewed as highly dangerous because those who enter it have an increased chance to become afflicted by The Blighting.

The Golden Dream: A physical realm of existance, inhabited and populated by the Seelie and the Primordials. It is within this realm that The Blight first manifested.

Unseelie: Any Seelie who has become afflicted by The Blighting is twisted into a dark visage of their former selves, and become a terrible being known as an Unseelie.

Character Creation

In Black Dawn character creation should be fairly straightforward. You're recreating mythological creatures, beings and other things. To this end we will use a largely freeform method of creation. Seelie should have powers appropriate for their inspiration and not bridge away from that - please don't create a vampire pyromancer, for instance. However a vampire themed character should have the strengths and abilities associated with a vampire - the base of which is your choice. We will be monitoring the overall power of characters, so please don't attempt to create demi-gods, and be respectful of your fellow players; no one wants to feel outshined, so you should leave plenty of room for others to be able to contribute. Please list your powers as (Major) or (Minor) to distinguish what are the most powerful aspects of the character vrs the things they aren't as good at / have limited access to / are generally just less powerful / etc etc. In short we want you to be able to create the character that you are envisioning, but please do so with some respect for the game and the other players. Power-gaming will not be tolerated.

Every Seelie must have one listed weakness, which is determined by the player. A good rule of thumb is that the more powers (major, specifically) a character has the more weaknesses they should also have. Weaknesses should be, once again, appropriate to their inspiration or custom if none apply or you can make a solid argument for it (or, if you really just want some custom flavor) - but most importantly weaknesses should be applicapable. All Seelie have a weakness to iron, and feel drained while holding it; this extends to Fay, but not Kindred or Awakened. Kindred, Awakened and Humans do not need a weakness.

If you are playing a Fay, you should imagine what your power list would look like if that character was a full blown Seelie and then cut it roughly in half (either by total number of powers, average of 'levels' or some other method). This will give you a solid idea of where they should fall on the scale. Always remember that the Fay are never as potent as their Seelie parents.

If you are playing a Kindred you get exactly one power. Imagine you are playing a mutant from the X-Men and you'll have a solid idea of how to construct this.

If you are playing an Awakened note that the character has no magical ties, and is most likely unaware that they are Seelie-blooded at all.

For in game purposes it's important to note that "inspiration" (or, "Classification" if you used the Lexicon), is something that was designed by humans. Seelie based on vampires do not call themselves vampires, they call themselves Seelie - because that's what they are. The myths and legends about vampires came around because a Seelie that had those general traits gave humans that idea and they created the story.

Seelie characters must belong either to The Conclave or to The Circle. The Assembly is, at this time, intended to serve as a GM antagonist faction but may be available for play in the future. Fay and Kindred characters may belong to either faction, but need not belong to either - they are also more likely to be aligned to The Circle.

The Blighting can not corrupt Humans or Awakened; everyone else is free game.

Portal magic, specifically between the realms, is extremely rare and will require both approval and have a limit on how many we take with us.

If you want to play a 'human with a perk', you are basically asking to play a Kindred.

Age. The Seelie do not normally live forever, it largely depends on what they are. Because of this the lifespan of the Seelie varies wildly depending on who you’re talking about. True immortality is rare, and is absolutely a ‘major’ power that needs to be listed. Beyond that elongated life is something that most should have to some degree - unless your particular inspiration doesn’t. In most cases a Seelie should live to be around 500~; if they have an elongated life please list that as one of their minor powers, and detail what you feel like an appropriate ‘cap’ for them is. In the case of actual immortality, again, please list that. On this same note, the Fay live extended human lives and can often see upwards of 250 years. Kindred & Awakened gain no life increase due to their Seelie origins.

- Black Dawn Character Sheet -

Name: Eydis Niequist
Race: Seelie
Faction: The Conclave of Dreams
Inspiration: Valkyrie
Face Claim: Mini Anden

Age: 1904
Gender: Female
Height: 5'6
Body Type: Tone like a dancer; lightly muscled
Hair Color: Ash-auburn
Eye Color: Blue

Occupation / Status: Purifier - Eydis served The Conclave of Dreams as a hunter of rogue Seelie and those who broke the decrees; this included traveling to Earth to deal with humans who became aware of the nature of the Seelie, dealing with the offspring of Seelie who would mate with humans as well as hunting down those who would threaten the stability of The Golden Dream.

Sexuality: Heteroflexible
Relationship Status: Single

- Descriptors -
Understanding - Because her life has been spent dealing with the dead, Seelie, Human, and everything inbetween, Eydis has heard just about everything. She has learned to hold back her own judgements of things, and appreciate the circumstances of others when they are presented to her. This makes her an excellent listener, and judge because she is unlikely to allow her own personal feelings get involved.
Patient - Dealing with the dead has also made Eydis an extremely patient person. The dead are often lost, confused and scared; it is her duty to guide them and help them move on, to accept their fate. This task is rarely quick and straight forward. Because of this Eydis can endure for ages before she becomes flustered or agitated.
Determined - Eydis is not one to call it quits. If she has something to do, or has set her mind to a task she in unlikely to give up on it even if the odds are stacked against her - in her mind there is always a way, she only need enough time to find it.

Proud - Being a creature involved not only in guiding fallen souls but in deciding who gets to live and die has given Eydis something of a complex. While she doesn't see herself as better than everyone else, she does put a great deal of stock into her own opinions when she shares them, and can't stand being proven wrong. She takes her duties very seriously, and feeling like she's failed at something isn't a feeling she deals with often - or well.
Competitive - A life of battle, war and sport, Eydis has surrounded herself with competition. She is competitive to a fault and refuses to be outdone. There's hardly a challenge she'll back down from and loves to show her prowess; as well as come out on top.

Stubborn - As she is determined, that can often bleed into stubborness. Eydis is loathe to abandon anything, and will hammer away at something until she gets results - while she won't go against the grain and not use smarter methods, she'll rarely give up on something even if efforts have thus far proven fruitless.
Unrelenting - Once Eydis has made up her mind about someone or something it is incredibly difficult to change her mind. To this end she comes off as very opinionated, or one-track minded in some cases.
Uncompromising - Eydis is not someone who believes in bartering. While she's not foolish enough to see the world in black and white, she doesn't believe that things morals, duties, obligations or persons should compromise themselves. She will not back down because someone does not like her attitude, and she doesn't know how to tone herself down in situations where that might be for the best. If you don't think the situation can handle Eydis at her fullest, it's best to not include Eydis.

About Me: Anything you'd like to add about the character, details about their personality or style, as well as things they may be famous (or infamous) for...

- Background -
Most of Eydis' history is soaked in blood and glory; for ages she watched over the wars of earth, across the entire globe and found champions to rise to greater heights. Some of her most successful stories are legends still told today, etched into the annals of mankind's history as the greatest warriors of all time. In part it was for them, but in part for her – for as she went she learned and her own prowess grew. To some an angel of death, to others one of mercy, and to those who came to recognize her more appropriately: a Valkyrie.

Born on the stormy night of November 18th of 112 AD, Eydis' entry into the world was met at the same time as the first death she would cause. The first shriek of the infant was drown out by the heavy crack of thunder, which served also as the gong for the passing of her mother. Raised by her father, a reclusive Seelie who worked diligently to remain removed from the politics of The Golden Dream and of his own kind. Eydis' was raised with a firm hand, a harsh hand, but still a loving hand. The call of death didn't take but a few years for her to hear, and when first she encountered a wayward soul and explained to her father, he knew she was meant for bigger things. So he turned her over to another Seelie, one who he felt could better handle and develop her.

Under the tutelage of her mentor Eydis learned in her youngest years of concepts like: Honor, Glory, Fate, and War. These were but some of the domains her teacher favored, and so they were things that were instilled in her. For many years as she grew she used her power to appeal to the whims of this mentor; those he selected were granted victory and only those he deemed worthy were given sanctuary within her sealing. It wasn't until around 700 AD when finally she broke away from him. In the past she had been called many things, an angel of death to some and others one of mercy, and some simply called her fate. It was the Scandinavian people, the Vikings, who coined the term Valkyrie – a word that seemed to her to encompass more of what she was then any that had come before it. Because of this she spent a long time following these people and watching over them. It was during this period that she realized she no longer needed the whims of her mentor, that these choices were meant for her and no one else. So she broke away from him and began to find herself inside of the person who had been created by another.

Once well established in her role and comfortable, she looks to the Seelie whom for so long she was withdrawn from and finds herself appreciated and adopted by The Conclave of Dreams. With them she finds another purpose, one that allows her to protect her people and further herself. When The Blight began to manifest, Eydis pressed tirelessly for a defense against it and rallied to the front lines to help defend The Golden Dream. When finally the Seelie were pushed back to Earth, Eydis vowed that she would fight with all she had against this darkness, and she would not rest until The Golden Dream had been reclaimed.

- Powers / Assets -
Soul Guide (Major): Speaking with the dead and learning their secrets is the trademark of Eydis' powers. Through this ability she is able to communicate with the souls of the deceased, and summon them to her - as well as sense impending death. More importantly however is her ability to lay to final rest a being who has been slain, and once a soul has been guided to its destination by Eydis it is sealed away; the soul enters her guardianship and can not be summoned - except by her. The body of a sealed soul becomes an invalid target for things such as necromancy and reanimation. As the keeper of these souls, if Eydis dies all seals she has created are released.

Glorious Fate (Major): In times long past Eydis was known to watch great wars from far above and impose her will upon the combatants, granting victory to those she deemed worthy of her praise. Eydis has the ability to bestow not only her own fighting prowess on another individual, but further empower their own abilities. Eydis may only empower a single individual at a time, and fighting herself would remove her blessing; however while an individual is blessed by her presence they are able to accomplish feats neither could do on their own or even when paired together.

Valkyrie Form (Minor): Eydis takes on the form of her legacy; her hair drains of color, becoming a platinum-white, her eyes become icy blue crystals. More importantly this form summons both her wings and her battle regalia to her, preparing her for battle.

Flight (Minor): Able to deny the laws of gravity, Eydis can take to the skies at will. Her flight speed is around 40mph normally, however while in Valkyrie Form her speed caps out closer to 100mph. Eydis has excellent manuverability, but without her wings lacks the ability to transport anything but herself and her own equipment (transporting another out side of Valkyrie Form isn't possilbe).

Shieldmaiden (Minor): Eydis was born to protect The Golden Dream and the Seelie; with that birthright came a natural adapatation to conflict and coming out on top. Even among the fighters of the Seelie, Eydis' battle prowess is considered exceptional.

Eternal Duty (Weakness): It is her honor, but also her obligation, to guide the souls of the departed to their final resting place. If Eydis neglects her duty - or is prevented from doing it - she is slowly stripped of her powers until finally she loses the ability to call on them at all; at such a point she would lose her immortality and subsequently die near-instantly. Because of this it is always preferable to die in battle then be taken prisoner.

Beacon for the Dead (Weakness): In many ways Eydis is the servant of the dead - and they can be rather demanding of her at times. Eydis acts as a shining beacon to lost souls, and they can come to her and be a small bother or make extrodinary requests of her. While she is not obligated to fulfill these requests, a lost soul may not be able to be put to rest until such a task is completed... and having your own personal casper or thirty can get mentally draining very quickly.

Honorbound (Weakness): Among Eydis' duties is to protect the realms from The Blight. She may never turn her back on The Blight or the Unseelie. Further an agreement with her is binding, and she must fufill the task or begin to suffer the negative effects of her Eternal Duty.

- Details -
  • The Conclave of Dreams: Eydis is a fairly firm supporter of The Conclave and its ideals.
  • The Circle of Thorns: She finds their methods crude, and believes there is a better way; however she understands what they are doing, why they are doing it and doesn't view them and entirely wrong in doing it. She attempts to not oppose them so long as they are not directly opposing The Conclave.
  • The Assembly of Dusk: Because Eydis is so firmly tethered to humanity, she can't help but loathe what they are doing. She views them as perhaps one of the largest threats to not only The Golden Dream, but the Seelie as a whole and will confront them without provocation or hesitance.
  • S.A.F.E.: She can't help but mistrust these individuals. They can't possibly speak for all people, as she has seen in the world and she believes their motives to be less than genuine. That said, she accepts them because it is the will of the Conclave; her patience for them, however, only extends so far.
  • The Blight: The greatest threat to her home, her people and those humans she is charged with seeing. It is the epitome of enemies and must be stopped at any cost.
  • Operation - Whitelist: Firmly opposes this, as she believes it gives the humans more control and insight into the Seelie than they themselves are willing to give back.
  • Seelie: N/A
  • Fay, Kindred & Awakened: In the end they are Seelie, and even if they were not, they are human. They deserve just as much as anyone else.
  • Humans: Because of her birth tethers to the humans, her outlook on them is extremely positive.

So, anyone interested in a building dark romance involving the begrudging enslavement partnership of a human huntress(MC) that spent the majority of her life hunting the Seelie and their kind on the human plane? >.> <.<

Alright, so my character is going to be a madam, specializing in catering to the needs of Seelie and human alike. If you are interested in being one of her courtesans, please hit me up! Male or female, dominant or submissive, sexuality doesn't matter, I'll take them all!

Also, claiming Natalie Dormer.

Amy: You threw the manual in a supernova? Why?
The Doctor: Because I disagreed with it! Now stop talking to me when I'm cross!”

Putting my tag here.
Heyo! Welcome.

So one of the things we want to create is the sense of tension between the two factions: The Circle & The Conclave. So we really want to see a fair number of characters belonging to both sides, so that players have something to sort of war against between one another. This game's got conflict coming at you from all sides, so there should always be plenty to do between GM run events and player created stories & tension:

-The Opposing Faction
-The Assembly of Dusk
-The Blight
-S.A.F.E. & Humanity

Relikai

I'll probably play a human female first. Would she need an Inspiration too ?

Wispyr

Nope. Inspiration is something limited to the Seelie & Fay.

GM Notes now updated with one of my spiffy trackers.

Elysian Radiance

Eleanore is going to be part of the Circle, for reference. And TBH, I'm more interested in finding people to work at her establishment than a thrall, but I'm open to both, obviously.

Cataclysmic Archangel

I only saw this whole thread about 15 minutes ago.  I'm trying to think of ideas.  I might just go Kindred and make my life easy, and just play some pathetic little mortal who's along for the ride.  Possibly Ely's bitchslave thrall.

I could also make something more of a hunter type, which would give Amarlo an owner partner and some connection to a valkyrie.

I've also realized that this is actually an opportunity to possibly play a dragon... although I don't have a clue where to even begin.
