I realize this may not be the best place to put this, and I apologize if it was a better thread, but I would like to request some advice.

I'm a first time gm in pathfinder, and I am trying to loosely base a campaign on the Four Horsemen.  I know i could just look up what others have done for them as they are everywhere, but I want to make them myself to be a bit more personal.  Unfortunately, I'm having some trouble with it a bit.  Here's what I have so far.

Pestilence:
Race/Template: naga? (still debating)
Weapon: bow, poisoned arrows
Class: Ranger or rogue

War:
Race/Template: Minotaur
Weapon: Greatsword
Class:Barbarian

Famine:
Race/Template: ???
Weapon: Staff (Shaped like scales)
Class: Cleric (evil)

Death:
Race/Template: Lich
Weapon: Scythe
Class: Sorcerer

Then finally there is the mastermind trying to rain doom upon the world

Name: Still working on it
Race/Template: Elf Demigod
Weapon: Spear
Class: Antipaladin

If anyone could help me out with suggestions, advice, or other either through a reply directed at me, or a pm please feel free to.  I am open to suggestions.

Cute anecdote:

I forget who, but someone decided to make the basic 3.x classes in BESM, with a limit of 200 points.  Turns out that the only class that fit within the budget was the Rogue.  The Fighter class was under by 40 points (So 160), the Cleric was over by 20, and the Wizard was worth a whopping 240 points.  The rest of the classes also hovered over or under, but by 10 or slightly less, if I remember correctly.

So I make a A&A thread but do I put it here?  No.  Of course not.

So BESM d20 is balanced around Tier 3, amusing and good to know. :D

Make Pestilance an Alchemist or Summoner...I'd suggest werewolf or some other spawn creatign monster...vampires work.

As far as the Demigod goes...definately have him wear that construct armor, because everyone loves secondary form bossfights.

Mysterica

Maybe on the pestilence ideas, but werewolves and vampires have always been big deals in the little mini campaigns we've done in the past with a gm who had no place gming in all reality, and I'd like to explore the monster manual a bit more this time around.

TheGlyphstone

Howabout Slaadi? They've also the the infection angle, with a bit more body horror.

Mysterica

Maybe.  Main problem I'm having is thinking up a race or template that effectively works to personify famine.

That guy doesn't look very famished at all
I think the idea is that he's pigged out on all the food, so that's what has caused the famine. Kinda like how they portrayed Famine on Supernatural.

Mysterica

Yeah...  I might wind up going with just a human idea for famine.  Something more like Alphonse from FMA.

FYI.. the 'beta' (ie.. free playtest download) of the Advanced Race Build Guide is up on the Paizo site for those who want to take their old books and figure out how to build one of the non-Open source races from Ebberron, Forgetten Realms and such.

Another step closer to point buy.  Curious.

Chris Brady

Point Buy is a really popular option in a lot of games.  PERSONALLY I prefer it, because it allows me to make what I want to play in a game, whereas I've had several concepts destroyed by random rolls.  Also, I find it harder to get into a character with random generation.

Your mileage will vary, of course.

I prefer point buy for party balance...and as a GM/DM, it's nice to know you won't have mister all-18-stats running around. In his defense, he just rolls really well. Great for casinos...but annoying in gamming.

Callie Del Noire

I had one player.. rolled between 10 and 12 with all stats.. he was UNGODLY as a fighter though. More 20s that a bank drawer and the player had a blast with him.

Genbu83

that's the thing though, fighters and rogues can get away with non heroic stats, so can a well built cleric.

More of a "What did they rehire him for?" article but you got to wonder how long till something big with his name comes out. Dont think it will be 5e though. Figure they will run 4e for another 2 to 3 years yet.

Yeah that's a been a buzz on the paizo forums for a while. I've found my favorite product...and I'm going to stick with it. good for monte regaurdless.

Even if there is a D&D 5e on the horizon, it's more than likely it would take them years of development if it's to be done right and in a way that doesn't alienate too many fans ;).

Since I'm not interested in any edition of D&D or its derivatives so far, I'll be playing something different anyway :P. Theoretically, they could produce a 5th edition of D&D that makes me want to switch to it, but I'm not holding my breath ;D!

Wasn't Monte the guy who said that all the trap options in 3e were intentional?

Yes he was.  Back then, when he helped design 3e, he was a huge fan of Magic: The Gathering and loved the idea of system mastery, where the player has to know how to 'game the system' to get the most out of it.  He was also a huge D&D magic and magic user fan as well, which is why magic was severely over powered, and if you read anything about Ptolus (His published setting) you'd see that as well, not to mention that his rendition of Unearthed Arcana had a lot of magic-touched classes.

He may have changed since then, but really, I hope they give him some toys to play with, and keep him away from 4e.  It's not perfect, hell it's got flaws as big as 3.x does/did, but personally, I like that Fighting Men are actually something to play, rather than dip in, while you play the real classes, like Druid or Cleric.
