Creeper

A tattered figure dragged himself through the deserted city streets. A cloudy sky reflected the hazy yellow glow of the flickering lamp posts that illuminated the street below. Despite the hollow street light beating down on the shuffling form, his face was obscured to the world. The figure pulled the dirty grey hood of it's over sized sweater down more, wheezing noisily as he shuffled down the street. The figure stepped blindly through a puddle, soaking the ends of his tattered blue jeans.

The stranger stopped. The man's head cocked to the side for a moment, held still against the wind. Then, suddenly, he turned and shambled down an desolate alley.

As he strode forward into the trash strewn alley, the stranger's eyes fell on the polished plastic of a batman action figure. The man reached down and plucked the toy off the ground, holding it up to the light curiously. A small, whimpering gasp came from a alcove, hidden just out of view. The stranger turned his head, and casually followed the sound.

There, hiding in the doorway, was a man who's shabbiness rivaled the strangers. His face was covered with a combination of fear, anger and scraggly beard. He held a terrified boy tightly in his arms with a switchblade knife pressed against the child's neck.

"Just turn around, and walk away." Hissed the kidnapper threateningly, glowering in the dark.

The Stranger, hands stuffed into the pockets of his sweater, did not move.

"I'm warning you man, get the hell out of here!" Spat the bearded man, uneasiness creeping into his voice.

The Stranger stood resolutely.

Rage and fear increasing, he shook the child, pulling a terrified squeal from the boy's lips. "I'll kill him! I'll fucking kill him!"

No response.

The tension snapped. The kidnapper dropped the child and roared. He lunged forward and plunged his knife deep into the stomach of the stranger. The figure stumbled back from the force of the blow, but blood did not pour from the wound. Instead it spewed forth a cloud of biting, stinging insects. The buzzing black cloud enveloped the screaming man, tearing at his flesh and working their way through his hair and clothing. More and more insects flew out of the strangers body, until there was enough to lift the bearded man into the air, and whisk his screaming form off into the night.

The boy cried, cowering in the corner as the Stranger approached. The man knelt down before the youth, hand extended, offering the discarded batman toy. The child saw the figure's hairless head. He saw his skin, pocked with insect laden holes. He saw the noseless face.

And the child was not afraid.

Is Power worth this price?

Out of My Skin is a superhero-based drama. While there will be plenty of action, the 5 episode 'series' is intended to ask questions the nature of power, beauty, and trust. The players take the role of residents or travelers who were in a small town in Vermont during a government experiment. The experiment warped them, and they were forced to abandon the town, and seek shelter below a major city. Now the mutants must discover the nature of what changed them, all the while trying to survive the government hunting them, and the madness of the other mutants.

This game is Moderated Freeform.

This looks interesting, but I must enquire, is the character thread there so one can put up new characters as applications, or would you rather that be handled over PM and only the finished  characters tossed up in your character thread?

Creeper

I'd like for just finished characters to go in the character thread. Actually discussing the character can be done by PM's or in the OOC thread.

Gyah...

Here I was not really looking for any more games and I read this. I'm interested. Time wise is weird right now though. I'm in quite a few games, but it honestly looks like 4 of them are essentially dead, and I'm going to be backing out of another because I just can't get into my character and that group isn't doing enough role-playing for my taste anyhow. I'm interested in playing a role, not looking for endless excuses to go into battle (whether that's battle as in fighting, or battle as in sex  ;)). Doing one or the other is good, but there needs to be plot and story to hold my interest.

I'm curious as to what your ideas of post rate should be. In multiplayer pbp games, I have a preference for a rate of aproximately once a day posting for characters, and 1-3 times a week for major GM plot type posts. I don't mind posting two to three times a day when I have the time, but when I'm waiting for days and days on someone else to post to keep things moving, I loose interest quickly.

So, again, will story take precedence over continuous battle scenes?
What's the hoped for post rate?

I'm not 100% committed, but strongly drawn to this one. I'll think about character concepts. *Sigh* I loves me some dark and twisted supers goodness. I might just drag out my Nightbane books again to see if anything inspires.

Well, we've already got two prolific posters, and I usually post about once a day, at least once every 4 days when having creative difficulties. If players don't post after a week without notice I usually move the story forward.

As for 'battle', don't worry. While there will be a good amount of sex and violence, there'll be plenty of opportunities for roleplaying too. Story will take precedence.

Well, I am interested, but for some reason, I'm having some trouble coming up with a concept so far. I think perhaps I'm just too focused on a new game I just started with someone else, a rather plot intensive piece. I'll try to come up with an interesting concept, but it might take a few more days to be perfectly honest.

That's fine! Take you time, Stattick.

I should note that this game isn't one of the ones that lasts forever. IT will have a beginning, middle, and end, and will have some events that will occur if the characters don't intervene. There also isn't a 'status quo' to return to, and I fully expect some aspect of the world to have changed due to the character's actions at the end of it. Unless they try really, really hard to keep things quiet of course.

Me and Stattick are in the same boat. I've been trying for the last couple days to come up with a decent concept, but it's been slow going. I hope to have something to you tonight after Physiology. And, of course, if you're still looking for slots to be filled.

Certainly! I'm going to start the story thread as soon as I get 4 sheets, but the story is set up so people can arrive at any time.

Plenty of room!

A note on background detail: I don't need much background on the character, but if you put in lots then I get ideas for happy sideplots! Just letting you all know.
