Midnight is pretty much a loose take on Lord of The Rings where Sauron wins.  Izrador is this Dark God who was banished and managed to gain a foot hold on the world.
My O&Os Peruse at your doom.

So I make a A&A thread but do I put it here?  No.  Of course not.

Also, I now come with Kung-Fu Blog action.  Here:  Where I talk about comics and all sorts of gaming

Oooo, that sounds really interesting! :D I'll have to ask one of my D&D friends and see if they have the book for it. I'd love to read it. :-)

Thanks, Chris! :D

I got the PDF a month or so ago of the 2nd edition.  Which cleaned up a few things, but it's still dark and depressing, and really hard to figure out how do you do things in the game...

Give a poke if you put up a Ravenloft game here Songbird! :D I never played enough of it to know the world well, but it would be awesomesauce to read an ongoing game.

Comparing it with Lord of The Rings really makes sense for Midnight though. *nodnods* And since there is no fellowship of the ring moving on to save everything you can be that group to save the world by opening up the world for the other Gods beyond Izrador to reach the living again.
I think I crushed on Midnight a bit with the bloodlines, and the magic hunters and ended up daydreaming of an epic road from a sleepy backwater village where you are told you are no one. Where books have been burned and the elders of the village teach the youngsters what to do to survive, and what they can and cannot do...yet you harvest this secret. You are more because the blood of ancients dwell within and soon everything you know will change.
*tosses a glance at the books* Damn you and the allure you still hold on me >_>

I certainly will if I do! It's lovely to meet another Ravenloft fan! :D

Wow, I can imagine it all now! :D That would make an awesome adventure! If you don't get a chance to roleplay it, it would make a great novel too! ;D

Well, when I was 9 I saw the OD&D basic boxed set (the red box) in a book-store and begged my dad to get it for me for my birthday. I'd been playing choose your own adventure books and heroes quest for a while and this seemed like some sort of awesome combination of the two. He originally didn't think I'd actually want it or be all that interested but I must have convinced him since I got it for my birthday.

I ran a few games for my family, though they quickly lost interest and it took me a while to find anyone else who was interested in gaming.

When I went to high school we had an orientation day and being the shy, awkward guy I am had trouble meeting anyone. Then I heard someone telling a joke which I recognized out of one of the Dragonlance novels, so I went over and talked to them, discovered they played D&D too and I was back in business.

Played a lot of 2nd ed. AD&D (Though with my new group I also got to try Heroes unlimited, Cyberpunk 2020 and Vampire: The Masquerade and more than a few crazy homebrew systems we all made).

Years later I Upgraded to 3rd ed. D&D and was very excited by the new game. Stuck with third all the way through 3.5 and even the later weird hybrids like Book of Nine Swords. (played yet more non-D&D games as well, more than I could list)

Tried to go to 4th ed. but I just hated it. Sorry, I know it's great for some people, but it really wasn't my thing.

Now I'm playing Pathfinder and loving it. I still feel like it's a D&D product. I mean Paizo put both Ds in D&D with their Dungeon and Dragon magazines for so many years that they've got just as much moral right to the name D&D (if not legal ownership) as Wizards of the coast.
My home is not a place, it is people.

Wizards of the Coast is going to reprint the original "White Box" Dungeons & Dragons game.

With supplements!  And a real wooden box!  And dice!

The price tag might look expensive, but keep in mind that old copies of OD&D are either really expensive or worn down and frayed.

Along with their PDFs of of old and new games, these classic reprints excite me more than D&D Next.

In other news, my FLGS had a copy of 1st Edition Unearthed Arcana Reprint.  I got it.

150$ for a bunch of small black and white booklets and wooden box...............no thanks.

I rather save my money and get some Spelljammer stuff. A lot of which I can get dirt cheap or even free. Used to get a lot f the 2 ed stuff free from the D&D website but ever since 4th came out wizards apparently got a bug up their but and all the old stuff is gone and most the third ed stuff is too and the almost all the rest you have to have a subscription to even see

Seeing that the average core books for almost all D&D releases have been about... 120 total?  This is not too bad for more books and an actual wooden box.

Now that you mention it, I think I dropped something like $108 on my slipcased set of 4e core books. The new box seems targeted at collectors as a collectors' item rather than a straightforward game, from which perspective that price doesn't seem outlandish,  I mean I wouldn't pay it, but if you were into that sort of thing you wouldn't be crazy to.

Chris Brady

A lot of times the local gaming store will give deals of you buy all three books, I usually could get them for a total of $100 before tax, by and large they were typically sold for 35 to 40 a pop.

I finally got to play DnD. \o/

Killed a guy in a hallway, couldn't get to the other one. I was like "Can I just throw the first guy?"

So we figured it out. And I did. And it killed the second guy. =D

You have mastered the essence of D&D then - try whatever you can think of & see what happens!

Slywyn

It took us like 30 mins to figure out if I could even pick up the guy, then another 15 or so to figure out how to go about rolling damage.

And then I think I crit, because the other guy died- Or our DM just didn't want to give me another chance to think of something else.

I started a solo campaign with someone. My first map I met what was supposed to be a throwaway slave NPC, but he apparently made up some dialogue for her. It got my character interested. Two sessions later she's a party member and love interest for my character.

Fun times.

A DM who is able to improvise and create NPCs with depth is a very desirable quality. ;)

Depends on what his CON is, I suppose. Beanpole - 20. Beefcake - expanded range, 18-20. Of course the beefcake guy is a lot harder to throw, so it balances out in the end.

Thorne

Is that like Improvised Weapon: Halfling?
I don't think we've ever actually done this (never had a suitable halfling), but if you had, say, a halfling barbarian...
Yes, I've had some very odd DnD groups, why do you ask?

See the part that makes that hard on a DM is the fact 99.9% of player's first thought is to kill the NPC and take their stuff. Knowing that before hand, it's usually a waste to prepare too hard for some NPCs. Winging it only gets so far, but I don't feel I wasted an hour.

Stop killing my NPCs and maybe magically your horses will live through the day. -_-

I often find that you get heaps of quirky tangents to the adventure when you run with a new player. Especially a female player - they don't see everything as a shimmering pot of gold and XP.

Well, I'm thinking that given the fact that both weapons are the same 'type' - let's assume human, medium-size, blunt edges, flailing limps - I think the crit range would more closely resemble a natural weapon or fist. So, I'd say that it would crit on a Nat 20 only with the beanpole doing, say, d4; and the beefcake coming in at a d8. Plus STR and a Half for throwing with two hands, of course. Unless you have a particularly powerful 'thrower' who can wield one in each hand.

Actually, we had a game where a guy did that with 2x wolves once and scored a crit on the guy he was throwing them at. It was hilarious!

Perhaps, you could even have a chance of grappling your opponent on a successful attack - kinda like when you throw an angry, vicious cat in someone's face and and it scratches like mad.

Tsk tsk Thorne. EVERY Halfling makes a suitable improvised weapon. That's why Halflings were invented! And gnomes. And kobolds... what other use is there for them apart from picking pockets, doing silly magic tricks and being hacked down by aggressive party members! :P
