If she's a stripper, why does she need to run?  I mean, there's always exceptions, but shadowrunning isn't something most people do if they have a choice...

Hobby? lol

Excitement?

The Thrill of the Hunt?

Sadistic Enjoyment?

Cover for Her Real Job as a Wetwork Specialist?

Wants to show off like Zorro but with a whip?

Jimmy Fingers needs the money. Jimmy Fingers likes to prove to the world that he's not a faggy leaf-eating elf.

Jimmy Fingers is a jackass that likes to talk in the third person.

Sadistic Enjoyment?

That works.

After all, "horrible person for hire" is the best way to sum up most shadowrunners.

It's certainly true that not all shadowrunners are psychopaths, but really, even the most honorable runner, with the highest of standards about what jobs he'll take, is someone who commits violent crimes for money.  Even the nicest runner is going to end up murdering at least a few (relatively) innocent people over the course of his career.

There's just no "lawful good" in this game.

Are there any free lite character creation rules for this game on-line?

Magic has similarities, but if I'm reading right, elemental manipulations aren't as broken any more.

Elemental Manipulations were broken? I always thought the best weapon for a starting mage was a force 6 stunbolt....almost nobody but another mage will dump points into Willpower, and combat magic, since it targeted willpower, was the perfect way to down a Troll (who almost certainly would have a low willpower).

I saw a Force 8 earth elemental (which took no damage from anything else that anyone else could do, including another mage's Manabolt) get melted into a puddle by one Force 6 Toxic Wave.  It's all about the flat TN of 4 -- it means you get successes even against the toughest opponents.

almost nobody but another mage will dump points into Willpower,

What Shadowrun were you playing?  I've played more than a few games, and I saw precisely one SR3 character whose Willpower was below 6.  His was 5, and he made a new character with Willpower 6 after the first mage he met killed him dead.  Having 5 meant a Manabolt (or Stunbolt, etc.) hit you more than twice as hard as it did the guy with 6, and was generally enough to drop you in one shot.

Trolls had Willpower 6 just like everyone else.  They didn't have a penalty to Willpower, so why wouldn't they?  It was Charisma they didn't have.

I'm glad they changed the dice pool system.  Before, the difference between 5 and 6 was monstrous, and the difference between 6 and 7 was nothing.  Now, things are a little more sane.

Vice

Most of the Trolls in games I've seen spent those precious points on strength and body, so that they could do horrifying things like like nail you with 17D worth of lethal damage from a di-koted polearm, or whatever (yes, I knew a lot of munchkins in college). I'm surprised the Earth Elemental didn't resist the toxic wave better than that...maybe it was a lucky shot?

Irregardless, it looks like we both ran into imbalances in the magic system of SR3. :)

I can't believe someone called "Face" before me...I wanted to be a Face...  :'(

They did that, too.  Along with the Willpower 6 (sometimes 7).  It was pretty heinous.

Quite possibly, but even a lucky shot wouldn't really have worked for anything else we tried.

I'll say.  I still have fond memories of the ritual Control Thoughts we whipped up on the curator of the Smithsonian...

You can be whatever you want. There are no "character type slots" in the game, so, heh, if you all want to be Face material, go ahead. Just would make missions more suggestable to wheeling and dealing.

The only thing for "lite" creation rules would be the character creation program you can download.

As for other things, I haven't made the game yet since I'm still rolling some NPCs and missions together for people to play.

As for those that have only the character creation program you can download (posted a link earlier in this thread) I am going to release what you can buy and can't buy with your 400 Build Points.

I'll try to buy the new rules next month, if my Amazon gift certificante isn't enough for them.

Jimmy Fingers is finished, but I can't attach the file to messeges. Should I just E-mail him to you Zulo?

I'm still fiddling with my char, i'm actually undecided in a lot of things. Elf, or perhaps human or orc? Infiltrator, shooter or both? Some people skills or not? I'll likely have him done tommorow.

Yes, but, a direct worker for the Mafia?

He's a member of the Mafia. They usually bring him in whenever there's a dispute to be mediated. The rest of the time he's a shadowrunner. Sound okay?
