Plus even the mud-crabs in Skyrim can kill you if they gank you while you're low. Everything is tougher in Skyrim.

Seriously, my heavy armor character can pretty much go toe to toe with giants if she feels like it. I was walking through the mountains a few days ago and took a sliver of damage from something behind me. Assumed it was an ice wolf since it was so weak, so I turned around to smack it in the face.

It was a snowcat.

I was so baffled that I just stood there while it swiped me a couple more times for basically no damage. Then I had to put it down, poor thing.

Legendary Daedric armor. It's a good thing.

I tried making a sneaky mage. Trouble is, until you get 50 Illusion for the make-all-spells-silent perk, magic is the anti-sneak. All stealth is gone the moment you cast something remotely close to an enemy. Kinda defeats the purpose. :| ... Oh, I already said that in this thread. Well. ... It's still true! >.>

Rerolled to make a light armor stealthy person without all the incredibly high powerleveling from smithing and speech and sneak. I still wish the stealth mechanics in this worked more consistently (more like, say, Thief, my all-time favorite stealth game), but it serves well enough for my needs. Working through the Dark Brotherhood and Thieves Guild quests before I do anything else to get the sweet armor. It's a pity I won't be riding Shadowmere around much, though, since riding horses is freaking fatal unless you're on flat ground. Seriously, how did Bethesda not notice riding a horse downhill causes the horse to fly off the ground and kill you with fall damage? >:|

Well...I have quiet casting. So that's not a problem for me. I can sit in a shadow and keep shooting a guy with a bolt of lightning and he never actually knows I was there.


The trick to leveling up illusion is muffle. Just keep casting it on yourself and you'll be level 50 in no time.

What I did was cast muffle while doing the stealth level up trick.. got illusion to 70 while level stealth to 100. One hand got to 50 in the mean time (I rested to increase skill up time)

Find a story NPC.. lurk behind them.. attack them, they'll heal up quickly.. attack again after the stealth icon comes back

Really dived in to my caster this weekend and must say that it is pretty much easy mode for the game.  I don't mind it is a great break from playing my heavy armor Nord or my assassin wood elf.

Yeah it is such a pain in the ass.  I don't use them as a caster considering my magic is conjure, destro and resto... I just raise fallen enemies and go on about my business.

I am.. not sure how you guys manage to kill your companions always.
I'm traveling with Iono (available in the riften home), and she's great. She barely ever goes down, and when she does, it's just that crouching knee thing, before she gets up and joins my battles again. I only had to reload once, because I accidentally killed her while she was down *coughs* damn poison... She's great to keep the mobs distracted, which means I won't get pulled out of stealth, which in turn means 3x damage arrows out of NOWHERE!

Mine always die because I'm a fire caster.  fireball does a shit ton of damage with all the damage perks maxed out.

Hah! Have you tried having a dog? Even worse. They can't do stealth and when you've lined up a perfect sniper shot, it decided to walk into you and push your aim off. Bloody things

Me. I'd like to get rid of Shadowmere, or at last have some option to stable him to keep him out of my hair. He keeps running off and getting into fights I don't want to fight when I fast-travel anywhere, and he distracts dragons running them off into areas I'd rather not have to go to fight them. Screw that horse.

Sidenote, I find stealth archer tends to be "easier" than mage simple because sneak levels up so incredibly fast and archery doesn't require mana to keep shooting, but once you get Fireball being a mage certainly does become World of Nukes. Though it's funny to me that Flames remains the most efficient means of magically killing things seemingly forever. It requires close range to use, but spurts of Flames will keep a nasty burn going on a baddie infinitely for practically no mana. Spam fireballs until OOM, proceed to burst Flames (or Sparks if the enemy is a mage) until thing dies, done.

And yes, I hadn't realized how fast Muffle skills up Illusion until I tried a new mage as a High Elf. Man, that extra 50 Magicka makes a HUGE difference early on. So Blaze, my Altmer mage, is already 50 Illusion, 59 Destro, 35 Resto and 38 Alteration. Kinda ignoring Conjuration because I don't plan to use bound weapons and I don't like using pets, but planning to try skilling up Enchanting if I have enough perks left over. Still doing the anti-stealth thing though. I got the Illusion silent spells perk, but other than that, no sneaky-sneaky. I have enough sneak characters already. ;p

My companions seem to run in front of me while I am hewing away with my legendary skyforge steel greatsword. It's been the source of many a long no, as I wind up for the power attack, and I see my weapon go up just as they charge in between me and my opponent.

Seems like you can't kill your spouse, so if you marry someone who you can have follow you around, like the chick in the bannered mare or the woman who gives you the quest to find 'grimsever' then you can have an unkillable follower....all though, they will turn and attack you if you hit them enough.


And for those who don't know. To get married you have to wear an amulet of Mara, which can be bought from the temple in Riften. After that, just talk to people, and they'll mention the amulet if they are interested. You may have to do a mission for them first before they are interested. After agreeing to be married, go talk to the priest in the temple in Riften and have the ceremony, simple as that.

So. I've been killing dragons across Skyrim. I've ventured into the depths of dark burial mounds, braved a haunted house, stood against Vaermina, the Daedric Prince of, among other things, nightmares. Nothing scares me. Not decomposing bodies, not spiders - not even the kind that lurks on the ceiling until you look up - not vampires, nothing.

Except water.

I was on my way out across the ice fields in the north, and ... I swear, I was holding my breath the whole time. I avoid even small bodies of water. I stay away from even small rivers. I do not like water. I like dark water even less. Oceans? No way. Oceans with ice caps that you can get trapped under? The need to swim deep deep underwater was the main reason for me never finishing either of Morrowind's expansions. I DO NOT LIKE WATER.

Same here. The worst part about it is that console commands don't seem to trigger it, so I can't workaround it. :/

Technically you have to go talk to Maramal in Riften and ask him about marriage practices before the courting will begin, even if you find an Amulet of Mara before then.

. What's not to love? She even prefers archery over melee as far as I can tell, which is nice for keeping her out of the way a fair amount of the time while still contributing to the fight.

Most recently started a character with cheats. Yus, I finally gave in to the urge to console command perks into my repertoire, so I decided to go about it in this way: I added basically all the perks I want to my character right at the start of the game, but didn't raise any skills, so I have my full bag of tricks but I'm not actually strong. I turned the difficulty up to Master to compensate and, so far, it's proving pretty fun. I'm also eschewing the use of gear in favor of running around naked and using Bound Bow and Bound Sword for combat. I am a nude ninja equipped with weapons I pull from the very shadows.

In other words, I made Shjade. ;p

Hm...now I need a Skyrim nude mod. :|

I like Shadowmere actually, he's been a great help in many a surprise fight before. Apparently people find the black, red eyed horse more of a threat than the Fire and Lightning wielding slightly (Read:Majorly) homicidal Dark Elf with pointy objects. Distracted opponents are the best opponents >:)

I finished my ultimate ranger game and now have started on my squishy wizard game.

A dark-skinned, red-haired, green-eyed Breton lass named Tamlina Moss-Rock who was just on her way to enroll in the College of Winterhold when she was waylaid Three Musketeers style and sent to her own execution. Now she's stuck in that first little town without a Septim to her name. (Mainly because I'm really RPing this one and she spent ruinous amounts of money on spell book.)

She basically lives by selling potions and baked goods. :D And vegetable soup. I make sure she eats at least two meals a day. Plus does it looks like a squishy wizard should be working at chopping wood? Pfft. I've actually got about three hundred gold now, so when dawn comes she'll set out toward Whitrun. :)

Archery is kind of a pain, with the way the aim is offset (makes sense, I guess? not an IRL bow user) and how slow arrows move. And it's kind of :/ to see a dude with an arrow sticking out of his throat but still wailing away on me.

I console myself by doing missions from Falkas. He almost always sends me to beat up that one bard. It's great - his bare hands against my metal-shod fists. My only regret is that I don't get to do the chokeslam finisher on him.

All projectile weapons have a trajectory. It's an arch basically whose shallowness or steepness depends on speed and or firing angle. So Skyrim is pretty spot on. Archery is worth investing in though for a sneaky character unless you just have to back stab. I've taken out whole rooms with Robin Hood-esque feats of archery.

However, I'm ready to just destroy people with the forces of nature. Raising zombies was never so much fun. :D
