I'm sure a lot of you have been waiting for a story premise that would give this RP direction for a main plot.  Well here it is and I hope it is to your liking:

A hundred years have passed since the Dovahkiin defeated Alduin the World-Eater. Skewed by the events of the civil war and chaos of that time, much of his accomplishments were based on conjecture and inferences. As a result there is no reliable written record of his exploits and much of what he had done to influence the land was lost to the ages. As noble as his actions may have been, not every consequence of his decisions was for the good of the land.

After a century of preparation, a new foe threatens the lands of Skyrim made possible by the very same person who had saved it so long ago...

The presence of the foresworn on the western reaches of Skyrim had become scarce over the past few decades and it was largely assumed it was a result of their leadership failing and their numbers growing too scarce to perpetuate their way. It was not known that Madanach, the King in Rags, leader of the Forsworn Rebellion had escaped his imprisonment in the Cidhna Mine. How could they? His execution had long since come and gone according to Markarth officials. He had used the dark days where the fate of Tamriel was hanging in the balance to make plans of his own. Though it had been some time since Madanach had breathed his final breath, his ideals only grew stronger as his kin prepared for this day.

There had been recent rumors coming out of the west that the Foresworn have returned in force, but such a notion was either regarded as being a hoax or too insignificant to warrant further investigation. At least that was until all communication from Markarth had become cut off without so much as a travelling merchant wandering from that portion of the country. Growing anxious, the Jarls of neighboring holds sent forth scouting parties to investigate matters to the west, but none have returned. Still recovering from their losses during the recent war, they do not have the resources to amass an army without first knowing the cause of the strange disappearances or what sort of threat they would be going up against. If there truly was a threat at all. In an attempt to conserve the able bodies within their personal armies in the event of a worst case scenario, a call has gone out to courageous adventurers in search of gold, fame, or purpose to investigate what was happening in Markarth and bring back proof of any threat that resides in the frontier lands of Skyrim.

My character is the elf on the right.  I considered cropping the image but decided that it fit too well in total.

Name: Trianna
Gender: Female
Race: Wood Elf
Age: 72
General Appearance: Trianna often dresses light in simple leather, often carrying a bow slung upon her back, occasionally with a cloak when it gets cold.  She rarely wears armor, primarily because her tasks generally work best when she doesn't need it, and she doesn't want to fall into the rut of relying upon it in order to keep her safe.
Affiliation(s): Dark Brotherhood
Major Skills: Archery, Stealth
Minor Skills: Acrobatics, Athletics
Brief Bio: Throughout much of her life, Trianna has been working for the Dark Brotherhood, started as a child when she assassinated an Orc via an arrow through the windpipe.  Few know of her affiliations, save that she's a woman of wealthy means, and she doesn't mind keeping it that way.
Weapon(s): Elven Bow - Damage Health, Elven Arrows, Elven Dagger (concealed, usually in boot)
Apparel: Various outfits depending upon necessary attire, Ring of Fortify Stamina Regen, Amulet of Resist Magic
Gear: Vials of poison, lockpicks, 2500 gold, Scrolls of Bound Bow (concealed for when she can't carry her default weapon), Potions of Invisibility
It's all good, and it's all in fun.  Now get in the pit and try to love someone.

I'd be interested. I just finished the main quest yesterday. I'll try to get something in a little later today. :)

#28
Name: Octavia
Gender: Female
Race: Imperial
Age: 25
General Appearance: http://www.gelbooru.com/index.php?page=post&s=view&id=1403961
Affiliation(s): Nightingales (part of the Thieves' Guild)
Major Skills: Speech, Sneak
Minor Skills: Pickpocketing, Light Armor
Brief Bio: Octavia doesn't know where she came from. She doesn't even know if "Octavia" is her real name for that matter. All she knows is that she was born in Winterhold, the daughter of a prostitute with her father unknown. She grew up in squalor, learning to steal more as a matter of survival than of choice. At the age of ten she was sold by her mother to a passing trade caravan as an extra set of hands. She has no idea whatever became of her mother (or "that bitch" as she calls her).

The caravan life was hard and the guards and workers were harsh to a little Imperial girl. Many in the caravan carried grudges against Imperials stretching back to the civil war and took it out on her whenever they could. She came to hate her lot, and when the caravan stopped at Riften she decided to leave. With the caravan's payroll. She fenced the stolen goods for cash and came to the attention of the Thieves' Guild. They took her in, gave her a family, and taught her her trade. As she blossomed, she proved more adept at using her good looks to get close to people and then pickpocketing them. She also developed talents as a fence and conwoman, preferring to avoid direct confrontation and obtain things through guile.

At 17 things got a little hot in Riften. She'd conned one mark too many and needed to get out of town. The life of an adventurer was perfect for going to distant places and being far away from potential enemies back home. During this time she seduced, conned, and stole her way down into Morrowind and as far north as Dawnstar, under various names and disguises. But a life of tricking others and traveling alone left her hollow. When things calmed a bit in Riften she drifted back to her roots in the Thieves Guild. In time she came to the attention of the Nightingales, the elite protectors of the shrine of Nocturnal, Daedra Princess of the Night. At first she thought it was just another way to scam folks. She'd posed as a priestess of the Divines before to con money from pilgrims and this seemed no different. But over time, she came to truly believe in Nocturnal and to find a comfort in worshiping her that she hasn't had in as long as she can remember. She was initiated into the Nightingales in time, and continues to adventure for profit, excitement, and to enrich the Nightingales and the Thieves Guild as a whole. After all, they're family in her mind, and family comes first.
Weapon(s): Nightingale Bow (does both Frost and Shock damage), Nightingale Blade (absorbs both Health and Stamina), elven shield, elven arrows.
Apparel: Nightingale Armor (when going into battle-Fortify Light Armor). Otherwise an assortment of fine clothes cut to emphasize and reveal her figure, as well as fine boots.
Gear: Lockpicks (50), Potion of Healing (Strong x10), Potion of Invisibility (x5), Potion of Light Feet (x5), Potion of Lockpicking (x5), Potion of Stamina (x5), Raincloak, Snow Furs, Horse (complete with bedroll, food for horse and rider, and tack), Food and drink, Tent and bedroll, Backpack, Common Soul Gem (filled with Common Soul) x10, Lesser Soul Gem (filled with Lesser Soul) x5, Gold (2500).

Lycan Queen

I've got two characters in mind. One is my old Oblivion character, refitted for Skyrim. She's a wood elf who wears dwarven plate and is a battlecaster/alchemist. I was going to make her from Markath for this story, but I'm a little unsure about submitting her as she's such an oddball.

The other is more standard. Orc warrior chick who I made for Skyrim. I haven't beaten the Companions quest yet, so I don't know how the story turns out. But... can we perhaps have werewolf characters? I love the Skyrim werewolf, I think it's awesome.

Laughing Hyena

Probably not. I cannot get into details but you can play the ending.

Lycan Queen

All righty then, just wondering. I'll probably stick to my elf chick, though I've been trying to figure out just how long Wood Elves live/mature. Anyone got any thoughts for that?

Actually, I'll allow the lycan blood if you're willing to build up a little lore for the Companions.  Without going into spoilers for that questline, it's pretty obvious that the group is divided in regards to their opinion of the lycan blood running through their veins. I figure that the tensions escalate over the course of the century causing them to divide into two factions, those who view it as a blessing and those who view it as a curse. I see the relationship between them being uneasy, but never escalating into anything more than heated "sibling rivalry".  If you include some history of their division in your bio (even if she wasn't there for it), I'll allow you to play a lycan character. :-)

Lycan Queen

...you just made me the happiest Lycan ever. =D *frantically goes off to finish that part of the story so she can come up with a good story*

If it's not too late, I'd like to throw in Bolli and Lirienel as followers/bodyguards for Octavia. Bolli's a big, burly Nord bodyguard she has. Specializes in two-handed weapons and heavy armor. Lirienel is an Altmer bodyguard specializing in Destruction and Restoration magic. Both of them are friends of hers from the Thieves' Guild and are followers as per Kate's post here:

QuoteYou can assume you have one or two escorts with you like a follower, but they are not that powerful ... if you want to / more like a messenger / scout or bannermen / body guards etc (a powerful witch would likely throw money at a few trained body guards, it doesn't make sense not to)

So not terribly strong but sort of extra hands in case of a fight since Octavia's more about the conning and stealthy sneaking than straight-up fighting. If it's not acceptable I can totally drop those two NPCs, no problem.

To keep things manageable, I'll allow one lesser character to act as your travelling companion/alternate character as long as you write up a character sheet for whichever you select.

this would be a fantastic game to play. I'll be thinking about a character all day, likely. I didn't have time to read through the whole thread but this is what i know:

lvl 20
20,000 to spend
no leaders of guilds
open style story, loose GM
no dragonborn
co-GM

I'm so in. I hope that you all have the room for me. If it's possible, I may even play multiple characters, the roof of this RP is not visible from the ground, as far as i can see.

PS- limited time on elliquiy, but I'm pretty dedicated :)

Since it seems we have plenty of people interested, a character sheet template will be up sometime this evening. Also, I think we've decided upon a different route for gear to accommodate our low-mid level characters. We will limit starting equipment to being items that can be crafted at 50 smithing (plate and scale armor as well as orcish) or lower. On top of that you can have three items with medium level enchantments. Since this is a freeform game a lot of that stuff is for aesthetics anyways, but it also makes room for better gear along the way and encourages the group to go treasure hunting.

Also, I'm officially closing enrollment to anybody who hasn't posted in this thread by this post.  Those that have, feel free to submit your character sheets and we'll see how big our group is before we consider bringing in any more.

I just went with the usual elf concept that they live to be several hundred years.  If anyone finds anything to counteract it, I'll change it.

Today's been crazy busy. I'll write up the bio for Octavia's bodyguard tomorrow.

Lycan Queen

I haven't posted yet 'cause I have bee playing, and I'm at the point where I feel I can make a character. But the quiet here is unsettling. Is this one still happening?

Empyrean

I'm still here.

Name: Bolli
Gender: Male
Race: Nord
Age: 30
General Appearance: http://www.gelbooru.com/index.php?page=post&s=view&id=1404573
Affiliation(s): Thieves' Guild
Major Skills: Heavy Armor, Two-Handed Weapons
Minor Skills: Smithing, Speech
Brief Bio: Bolli was born and raised in Riften, the son of two dock workers. Even as a kid he was always getting into trouble, so when his uncle, a blacksmith, offered to train the boy in a useful craft, his parents accepted. Bolli spent his teen years learning to work the forge but despite his stern uncle's best efforts, Bolli was drawn to the life of a bad boy.

After his apprenticeship ended, Bolli did a little work around his uncle's shop but fell in with a pretty girl from the Ratway who got him mixed up with the Thieves' Guild. He was soon kicked out of his uncle's place after a failed attempt to rob it to impress his girlfriend. He wasn't a very good thief, but he was good at legbreaking and roughing up people who owed money. He drifted along in guild life for a few years before becoming the bodyguard to an up-and-coming con artist named Octavia. She was the brains, he was the brawn, and he liked it that way. He journeyed with her on her adventures as backup, and occasionally makes an honest coin trading on what skills he remembers from his apprenticeship days.

Weapon(s): Orcish Warhammer (Fire damage).
Apparel: Orcish heavy armor (Fortify Two-Handed), Orcish Helmet (Fortify Carry Weight), Orcish gauntlets, Orcish boots
Gear: Potion of Healing (Strong x10), Potion of Light Feet (x5), Potion of Stamina (x5), Raincloak, Snow Furs, Horse (complete with bedroll, food for horse and rider, and tack), Food and drink, Tent and bedroll, Backpack, Common Soul Gem (filled with Common Soul) x5, Lesser Soul Gem (filled with Lesser Soul) x5, Gold (1500).

I was just waiting on a few character sheets or Saturday to make in IC thread, whichever came first.

Name: Kereva Maalkum
Gender: Female
Race: Human (Nord)
Age: 24
General Appearance: A sharp studious face framed in long winding londe hair. She looks to be out of control, but her morals are in good control.
Affiliation(s): none, she protects herself and anyone associated with her.
Major Skills: Restoration, archery
Minor Skills: light armor, speechcraft (charisma)
Brief Bio: Born in the middle of a snow storm at the top of the lighthouse in Solitude, Kereva was left without father her whole life. the story goes as such: fighting a long field of ice to the north, the man subjected to be her father, died on the same night as her entrance into this world. Her mother, Fenita Maalkum, claims to have never truly confessed her love to the father, unlike him who left for war in reaction to her silence. he never knew of his daughter's existance. Kevera knows the story very well, and writes of it often in her free time. Since childhood she was raised on the northern coasts of Skyrim, a partner to the ice, a lovely maiden of the hills, find solitude. She taught herself to hunt and fish, to live, and light fire. Now in a cabin not two hours from the place of her birth, she stands on her porch most hours of the day, patiently awaiting fate to visit her.
Weapon(s): crossbow (as seen in picture), her childhood weapon of choice. Longbow of restoration, a crafted weapon that enlivens the user with energy like caffiene and sunlight. Kevera is still learning to use a longbow effectively, but she is lethal with either weapon.
Apparel: she typically wears a gown under her leather armor (as seen in picture), but these dresses are not limited to white. However, she does tend to wear lightly hued colors. Let it be known that there are leather plates underneath these gowns protecting her legs and feet.
Gear: health potions, food, wine, a leather hood for weather conditions, bedding, and not much else. Kevera keeps herself healthy with restoration magicks, and not very much gear
