Ah, I was interested in the Spymaster, but now that's a no-go.

Hrm. I'm still interested, though. I'm toying with a couple of ideas; one's a Tal-Vashoth Assassin (Either elf or human) agent in the employ of the Inquisition, perhaps acting as Oni's characters "Right Hand," which would explain why he spends a lot of time in Skyhold. Not convinced, though...he would probably be of the cynical, snarky variety. More like the Straight Man than the prankster, but that depends on what everybody elses characters are like. I mean...having a party full of snark is boring. :P

Oni, would you be ok with having my (possible) character as a 2iC for your (possible) Spymaster?

A couple of questions, though. The first one is, how much freedom do we get with writing our characters origin story? That will play a large part in my decision.

Also, do we have points to spend on the skills, or do we just list the tree? I'm having difficulty figuring out which abilities from the trees to write down since in your bio, Primarch, you note down the progression but don't give any clues as to whether we write down the whole tree, or just the abilities our characters would have.

Anywho, I'm interested, and I have one or two possible ideas bouncing around in my head. So....yeah! Looking forward to committing one of them to paper.

EDIT:

Also, I know that in-video-game you're limited to one weapon, but it seems odd to me that an Assassin would only be trained in daggers, so...are we going by DA:2 and DA:I rules in that you can ONLY have one weapon, or by DA:O rules in that a character can have a secondary weapon, if they're willing to dilute the specialisation that they have in another branch? Because I would likely only take one or two skills from Subterfuge for my Assassin, so if we're working off of a points basis or a max-skill basis, I could easily use the points I would have used in the rest of the Subterfuge tree to get a couple of skills from archery. Of course, if we're using DA2 and DA:I rules and the characters can only have one und precizely une weapon, then the second half of that question is moot, haha.

Men in general judge more by the sense of sight than by that of touch, because everyone can see but few can test by feeling. Everyone sees what you seem to be, few know what you really are; and those few do not dare take a stand against the general opinion. Therefore it is unnecessary to have all the qualities I have enumerated, but it is very necessary to appear to have them. And I shall dare to say this also, that to have them and always observe them is injurious, and that to appear to have them is useful; to appear merciful, faithful, humane, religious, upright, and be so, but with a mind so framed that should you require not to be so, you may be able and know how to change to the opposite.

I believe that there's a list showing who has reserved what in the topic post on the previous page...plus, of course, the Spymaster (which Oni might be interested in). :-)

How much free reign do we have on our character's backgrounds and such?

Right now I see no reason not to restrict people so long as its reasonable to the setting.

A) As mentioned above, I'm currently happy to let people have their freedom so long as its reasonable to the setting. Though I suppose I would also ask if people could avoid mary-sue/gary-stu backstories.

B) You have 20 points to spend throughout the skill trees, you can invest in as many tress as you like...well limited to one specialization. Just list the abilities you have/know.

C) If you want to split your skill points between dagger/archery skills I'm perfectly happy for your character to carry two weapons on his/her person.

Player: Vergil Tanner
Character Name: Kas ("Weapon" in Qunlat).
Origin Path: Tal-Vashoth Human.
Age: 32

Appearance
Rugged, weathered looks with his fair share of scars. His eyes are hard, though not cruel. Killing, for him, is a means to an end and nothing to take pleasure from. If he does his job right, nobody will know he's been there until it's far, far too late. He isn't a handsome hero of legend; he's grizzled and experienced, face worn rough through almost a decade and a half of experience. He stands at about 5'9, and is of a lithe, athletically muscular build with slightly broad shoulders rather than a stocky warriors build. Despite his more athletic frame, his body is hard and all tough muscle...there's no room for fat when you're in the business of death. His hair is short-cut and black, and kept firmly under control. His eyes are a dull green, and one has lost a little colouration after sustaining some damage in a skirmish with a Bard early in his "career." Along with the scar on his face, his body also bears the marks of a life of intrigue and assassinations, having more than his fair share of 'battle-scars.' At this point in his life, however, it is the rare enemy that can land a nasty enough blow to create a new one.

The following picture is as close as I could make it. See "Other Pictures" for a better idea of the complexion and general facial structure of the character. :-)

*Minus the Eagle, of course. Although I really want it, haha.

Position: Lead Assassin, 2iC to Spymaster (If OK with whoever is playing the Spymaster).
Class: Rogue, Assassin.

Skills:
Double Dagger:
Flank Attack (Skirmisher) > Bloodied Prey > Unforgiving Chain
Twin Fangs > Dance of Death > Sneak attack > Deathblow (Thrill of Victory)
Archery:
Death From Above
First Blood
Subterfuge:
Stealth (Lost In The Shadows) > Easy To Miss > Knockout Powder
Assassin:
Hidden Blades > I Was Never Here > Knife In The Shadows > Mark Of Death > Gaps In The Armor

Equipment:
Armour: One set of Prowler Armour made of the hides he harvested from weakened or dead Great Bears during his fleeing through the Emerald Graves. It being Great Bear hide, it's somewhat more durable than you would expect. Warm, too. Complete with a durable cotton hood.
Accessories: One necklace that increases his attack speed, one ring that increases his aptitude for stealth, one ring that increases the damage he does against weakened foes, one belt that increases his dexterity.
Weapons: Two Bloodstone-forged Dual Curved Blades, one enchanted with a Corrupting Rune, the other with a Cleansing Rune. One Longbow, forged with Stormheart, enchanted with a Spirit Rune.

Mount: Amaranthine Charger.

Backstory: Ninety years ago, during the fifth Blight, Kas's ancestors fled to the Free Marches City State of Kirkwall, along with roughly half the population of Southern Ferelden. Their story was the same as hundreds, perhaps thousands of others: seeking to escape the Blight and take refuge in a hopefully sympathetic city, they spent most of their life savings hiring a boat to get them to the city, thankfully being amongst the first to arrive, before they began barring entry to the refugees. Once inside, however, they were forced to live in the slums of Darktown, sleeping wherever they could and doing whatever odd jobs they had to for the various criminal factions to get enough food to survive. Several years into their stay in Kirkwall – they didn't have the money to make the return trip to Ferelden – Kas's great-grandfather was mugged and murdered on his way back to his wife and child. After receiving no help from the Guards, his great-grandmother turned to the Qun, convinced that no life could be worse than the one they were already living. After surviving the Qunari attack on the city, his great-grandmother and her son left with the Qunari who eventually arrived to retrieve the Dreadnought, convinced that she wasn't safe in the city that was only just licking its wounds from the previous decade of strife. And so began Kas's families life under the Qun. That is, as much as there is any “family” under the Qun; he supposes he should say that that is how his genealogical line came under the Qun, because since then, no member of his “Line” has ever been a part of a family unit.

Kas himself was bred and then raised from an early age to be especially adept at stealth and deception, given his human lineage and obvious uses as a spy in foreign lands. Thus, he was inducted into the Ben-Hassrath's training system and trained to be a spy and occasional assassin. Alas, after several years of formal assignments on the Mainland, something went wrong: during a routine information hand-off to his “handler” (for lack of a better term), the small group of agents was attacked by a Tevinter Counter-Espionage unit that had managed to find the meeting spot, who butchered the surprised Ben-Hassrath agents almost to the man. Kas, severely wounded, managed to escape with the information with the intent of ensuring its delivery to his superiors in the Ben-Hassrath, no matter the cost. Unfortunately, it was not to be: after binding his wounds and managing to evade his pursuers, he travelled towards the closest Ben-Hassrath safehouse for proper medical attention and a debriefing. When he arrived, he was immediately ambushed by several of the agents present at the Safehouse, and only managed to escape by the skin of his teeth. Whilst searching the bodies of the assassins, he found a small message on their body – recently penned – detailing how they had received information that Kas was responsible for the discovery and deaths of their agents, and how he was to be either captured or killed on sight, lest he manage to infiltrate the Ben-Hassraths ranks. Realising that he had been outmanoeuvred, Kas went on the run as an unwilling Tal-Vashoth, choosing a new name to live by (Isaala (Dust)) and evading assassins as best he could.

After a good couple of years of living in abandoned caves and ruins and living off of what he could hunt or steal from local brigands, the Ben Hassrath agents pursuing him finally caught up: they cornered him in the remains of an ancient Dwarven Thaig, and Kas was preparing to meet his end....when a small group of Inquisition Agents who were investigating the Thaig stumbled across them and decided to aid him. After dispatching the agents, Kas – who had nowhere else to go – was convinced to accompany the Agents back to Skyhold for questioning and shelter. After being debriefed, the Inquisition agreed to offer him sanctuary in exchange for his services and information...after being hunted relentlessly for the last two years of his life, Kas was no longer feeling much loyalty to the Qun, and accepted their terms. Of course, the matter of possible assassins still remained; after evading six attempts on his life – five whilst out in the field and one whilst in Skyhold itself – over the next year and a half, the Inquisition decided that something ought to be done about Kas's fugitive status; with the aid of the Inquisition, Kas was able to eradicate the group that had killed his Ben-Hassrath “Cell” and clear his name (or title, or whatever) in the eyes of the Qun. Of course, after living on the run for so long, Kas had become used to his status as a Tal-Vashoth, and no longer bore any love for his country. Therefore, he remained Tal-Vashoth (evading the Qunarii “Courtesy Assassination”) and pledged his life to the Inquisition, choosing a new name.... “Kas.” Six years on, Kas still serves the Inquisition with unwavering loyalty, employing his skills both as a spy, a scout and an assassin to further The Inquisitions goals in Thedas.

There we are! Does that look acceptable? If there's anything that you want me to change, let me know. ^_^ Also, this is kind of working on the assumption that Oni wants the Spymaster position. If she doesn't, then I may alter Kas's bio so that he's the Spymaster. But that's only a maybe. Hope you like him! :D :-)

I'm not finished by a long shot, but here is a little WIP so people can see what I'm working with. I'll try and get some more of her profile done tonight.

- Rainbow ♥

Player: xSnorkleRainbow
Character: Lilya Nolari.
Origin Path: Dalish Elf.

Appearance: Short and lithe as Elves are known to be, Lilya stands at 5'2". She has long strawberry blonde hair, with a pale complexion and notable freckles across her face and other parts of her body. Her eyes are a serene blue and she has a few scars lining her back. Lilya also has the markings of a Dalish elf on her face in a slightly darker tone to her skin.

Position: First Enchanter
Class: Mage
Skills:
○ Spirit: Barrier > Guardian Spirit > Peaceful Aura > Dispel > Revival (Life Ward.)
○ Winter: Winter's Grasp > Fade Step > Mana Surge > Frost Mastery > Wall of Ice (Glacial Strength) > Blizzard (Ice Storm.)
○ Rift Mage: Veil Strike (Punching Down) > Pull of The Abyss (Shaken) > Fire Storm.

Equipment:
Mount: Red Hart named Aurora.

Favourite Gifts: Sweets, Jewellery, Books, Flowers.
Hated Gifts: ....She's grateful for everything someone wishes to gift her.

Backstory:

Other: Lilya is a bit of a scatterbrain; she can be forgetful, anxious, careless and clumsy. This can sometimes make her neglect menial and even important tasks, but she always has the best intentions when it comes to the Mages and the Inquisition.
Extra Images

Ons: Romance, Passion, Bath/Shower/Rain Scenes, Kissing, Teasing. (Please see my O/O's for more info.)
Offs: Anal, Blood-Play, Toilet-Play, Feet, Pregnancy. (Please see my O/O's for more info.)

Ooooh, looks interesting thus far! An Ice-Rift Mage, eh? And those scars....they suggest a somewhat more rough backstory than you may expect. I can't wait to see more! :-) I always liked the Elves...they get the cold dregs of the soup far too often. :-( Here's hoping that Lilya has managed to make a good life for herself, eh? :-)

Hmm and just when I'd decided to boycott group games something this interesting comes along. I love Dragon Age with every centimeter of my heart and this seems like an excellently thought out premise, especially the idea to utilize the war table in a way that allows the game to stay fresh as everyone has a chance to add to the ideas for adventures. With that said I'm not totally sure what role I'd like to fill, or even whether I'd like to play a male or female character. I've got ideas for several. Since it appears Spymaster and Head Scout are taken I could see myself being a Master Assassin type. Maybe an autonomous figure who works directly for the leadership. I also could see myself as another mage or Templar to fill the ranks as someone's second, young but skilled. Either way I don't see myself filling one of the "main" roles that are listed in the OP. If you're only looking for those specific things at the moment though Primarch I could try to fit an idea into one of them.

Vergil Tanner

I don't think Head Scout is taken...yet, anyway. My character is kind of a Master Assassin/spy (if he gets accepted) rather than a Scout, so if you wanted Head Scout, I don't think that's taken. Unless I'm missing something. Of course, I can't speak for Primarch - I have literally no authority here XD - I just want to chat with the people who are considering joining, since I like having a rapport with my fellow RPers. :-)

Oh I'm sorry Vergil, I misread your profile. I noticed you mentioned head scout in a earlier post and made an assumption, my apologies. I could see myself portraying a master infiltrator/spy then, which could lend itself to being a head scout I suppose. So yeah, I think I'm set on that idea for now. I'll see how it goes, but later on it's possible I could double as a Templar or Mage as well if that's allowed.

Vergil Tanner

Haha, don't worry about it :-) Yeah, my character is supposed to be a high-level ex-Ben-Hassrath spy/assassin, not a Head Scout, so as far as I'm aware, that role is free :-) Just be prepared to be compared to Harding, though :P :P Lol.

Why must you put such a lofty standard upon me? I can't compete with that adorable little bundle of murder that is Harding. Anyway, here's a very brief WIP of the type of girl I was thinking and how she becomes involved with the Inquisition if it's found agreeable to Primarch.

Player: Odanrav
Character: Yvette
Origin Path: Prostitute/Thief

Appearance: Yvette is a fair haired beauty from Antiva with a fetching, sultry smile and bright blue eyes that can mesmerize. Her honey skin is dotted with a spattering of freckles across her cheeks and nose. She uses these traits to the fullest of her abilities to infiltrate any place she wants to for whatever purpose she deigns. She’s average height with a shapely, and surprisingly fit figure with the slightest of indentions of muscle along her midsection, arms, and thighs. Yet she still exudes femininity and glamour as much as any woman might.

Position: Head Scout/Spy
Class: Rouge, Archer
Skills: I don’t have my PC in front of me so (on a laptop) so I can’t recall all the various trees, but she will be a archer since Vergil already took duel daggers (shakes fist furiously).
○  Archery:
○  Subterfuge:
○  Bard: (I know it’s not a DAI spec, but it suits her best)

Equipment: A simple tavern dress.
Mount: None at the moment.

Favourite Gifts: Any jewelry or valuable item. Fashionable shoes and dresses. Arrows and daggers.
Hated Gifts: Sentimental things.

Backstory: Yvette was born on the streets of Antiva City not knowing who her mother or father was, and to this day she still does not. She had a different name back then, one she hasn’t told anyone since the day she left. One day at eight years old while digging through the garbage for food she was approached by a member of the Crows and offered a place to stay and food to eat. Needless to say she trusted the man if only to cure the hunger in her belly. He fulfilled his promise and brought her to a nice room and gave her more food than she normally ate in three weeks’ time. And then he told her that she could either agree to be trained by the Crows and effectively become their property, or be throw back out onto the streets again. She chose the former.

For ten years they trained her in all the deadly arts. She became a master of the bow as well as a master of infiltration. She learned to become anyone she needed to be. The proud and benevolent countess to the lowliest and most degraded back alley harlot, whatever the mission needed. On the day she turned eighteen they sent her on her first mission to assassinate a traveling lord from Nevarra and anyone else accompanying him. She posed as a peasant girl lying helpless in the road and pleaded for the lord’s help as they approached. It appeared that only the lord and three guards were there, alongside a wagon being led by a pair of thoroughbreds. A simple task for a Crow.

She dispatched the guards quickly as they came to her aid and then engaged the lord. He put up a fight, but the flash of her steel was far too quick for him and she landed a deadly blow to the man’s neck as he slowly bled out. Yvette did not enjoy the killing. She thought she would, all of the veterans she talked to often spoke of the excitement of missions and of killing but to her it was just… pointless. She didn’t even know why those men needed to be killed, they seemed like good hearted folk. Then a woman stepped out of the back of the wagon and saw the carnage Yvette had wrought. She ran to the body of the lord, weeping and pulling at his clothes as Yvette stood nearby. Yvette guessed she was his wife even as the distraught woman’s grief changed into anger and she spat and cursed Yvette in a way that shook the Crow to her core. Only then did she realize how foolish she’d been. Yvette ran, swearing to never kill again without knowing why it had to be done.

The Crow’s, to no surprise, proved to be persistent in chasing her halfway across Thedas for several years. Eventually however they decided to cut their losses and eventually let her go, at least she thinks they did. Perhaps they simply decided to wait until Yvette allowed herself to get tied down to one spot, which she avoided doing for years. She became a professional thief, working either for herself or on someone’s behalf. Her primary source of income proved to be brothels. She took the name Yvette and began to rob brothels and their patrons, posing as a working girl there and moving on before anyone could discover her. She eventually found her way to Skyhold, pretending to be a prostitute at the local Inn.

Other: My idea was that Yvette could tempt one of the Inquisition’s higher-ups and gain their favor in order to get access into their rooms to rob them. Perhaps she’s discovered or gets away, whatever the case I was hoping she might impress somebody with her skill and endorse her for a position as a scout or spy. If anyone is interested in working with me on this I’d love to brainstorm… if this character is approved of course.

Ons: Bisexual with no specific preference. After posing as a prostitute for a decade there are few things she hasn’t been exposed to, so she’s very open sexually.
Offs: She does her best to avoid romance and intimate feelings beyond friendship. Things just get too messy then. Doesn’t mean someone might not come along and steal her heart. She likes rough sex, but she doesn’t like being roughed up. Try this with her and bones will be broken.

I have retracted my interest, but if anyone wants to use the character I have here they are free to have her.

Spoiler: Click to Show/Hide
WIP: (this is harder to write than I thought. If anyone wants to help me feel free.) @_@

Player: .
Character: Grizelda (Griz) Lockard .
Origin Path: Human Noble. (Lower house)

Appearance:

Positon: Knight-Captain.
Class: Archer.
Skills:  ----

Equipment:----
Mount: None, she is terrible at riding. But would sell her

Favourite Gifts: Books. Tapestries (paintings), sweets. Anything with Griffons on it or relating to them.
Hated Gifts: Clothing, Jewlery.

Backstory: Grizelda (usually called Griz by those who have befriended her) Is the third daughter of a small noble house of merchants. She never expected to amount to much due to not being the first born child of her family and not being as smart or as good as her sibling when it came to business. Her family expected her to be nothing more than a wasteful child for their family. As such Grizelda never really tried for much and tried not to think about what she would do with her life, that is until at a social gathering three archers were brought in to perform tricks for the nobles and Grizelda instantly was enamored with the precision and skill these archers showed. She pestered her parents for days to be given training in Archery until they finally gave in simply to get her to be quiet. But to their surprise she proved to excel at it, not the greatest archer in history but certainly one of some talent.

As the only thing she was good at, her parents never missed a chance to brag about their daughter's archery skill.(WIP)

Juggtacular

#41
Player: Juggtacular
Character: Kain Valerian
Origin Path: Human Noble

Appearance: Kain is not the largest person ever, but he's slightly taller than most and seems to fill the room with his presence. He stands at 6'2 and is well muscled and heavily defined at 210bs. This can be contributed to a life of combat and training. His eyes are brilliant, glowing gold(a result of a spell gone wrong). He has a thin scar in the shape of a straight line over his right eye. It starts above the eyebrow and ends slightly below the cheek bone. He recieved it when a powerful Pride Demon possessed a mage during their Harrowing. He was lucky to survive.

Due to his Antivan/Orlesian heritage, his skin is a dark shade of brown, and he has a distinct accent that falls somewhere in the middle between the two dialects. He has a clan tattoo over the right half of his face that actually compliments and accentuates the scar. He has black hair that he used to have braided, but now keeps styled in a design popular among Orlesian nobles.

He decided that shorter was better as people tend to grab for anything they can in a fight(and he nearly had some of his hair ripped out in a bar fight once). He usually keeps his facial hair styled into a meticulously groomed goatee, demonstrating that the Orlesian in him has some powerful aspects...like maintaining his perfect image as much as he is able.

Backstory: Kain's story begins long before he was born. As he is Orlesian on his fathers side, and Antivan on his mothers, Kain's story starts over 150 years ago when the Valerian's and the Santiago's, very powerful noble houses from Orlais and Antiva began a fierce rivalry. The head of House Valerian, Maurice allegedly stole the intended bride of Amilio Santiago. The truth has been lost to the ages, but for over a century the houses feuded and constantly tried to one up or overthrow the other. Their power was too evenly matched and there was a stalemate of sorts. The houses were still openly at war, but would only attack from time to time if one felt they had an advantage.

It seemed like this would continue on forever without end, however fate seemed to have other plans. After the Inquisition became a power in Thedas once again, both houses sent letters to Skyhold asking for assistance against the other. Commander Cullen oversaw the situation and decided that since both Antiva and Orlais were so fond of deceit, trickery, and foul play, that an honorable competition would be the best way to solve the issue. He organized a tournament between the two houses, pitting the best of the best against each other. The winner of the tournament would win victory for his house, and restitution would be paid by the loser.

The competition was fierce and the tourney lasted three days. Finally the champions from each house were decided and faced each other. House Valerian's champion was Drake, a master of the arcane. He was known far and wide as one of the most powerful Orlesian mages of the era. Champion of House Santiago was Ariani, a petite woman with the strength of two men. The battle was intense, and despite the two powerhouses going at it for hours, neither could gain a definite advantage. Finally both went to strike a killing blow, ready to end the life of the other for honor and their house. Cullen stopped the contest before either could follow through however.

He said that it would be a shame for more lives to be lost over such a pointless dispute, especially two as valuable as Drake and Ariani. Instead he decided the duel was a draw. He explained that as it was a draw, the blood feud between the two houses was to be forgotten. But he knew it wouldn't be that easy, so he offered the blessing of the Inquisition and it's full backing in all matters if Drake and Ariani would marry, joining House Santiago and Valerian and making a powerful alliance between Orlais and Antiva. It was agreed and the two warriors married, surprisingly falling into true love. The couples son did not inherit his fathers magic, but he did inherit his mothers fighting spirit and skills, becoming a great warrior who joined the Inquisition as a way of repaying them for settling the feud between his two families.

That man is Laurentian, and he is Kain's father. Laurentian after joining the Inquisition quickly rose through the ranks due to a mix of high standing, natural talent, and charisma. He became a high ranking commander within the army, and remained so for several years until he met Theresa, an Antivan mage who fought for the Inquisition as well.(He didn't get his fathers magic, but he did inherit his taste in women) They married a few years later and had Kain. Kain was born with powerful magic coursing through his veins, but it was latent and he didn't show any actual arcane abilities until he was around thirteen. Because of this, everyone just assumed that like his father, magic had skipped his generation despite his grandfather and mother possessing the gift of magic. As a result, he was trained with the sword growing up, as his father was more than a little excited to have his son follow in his footsteps.

Until one day a boy who was two years his senior(his father liked to challenge him), began battering through his defenses with sheer strength. It was clear he had Kain on the ropes, and he panicked. The next strike from the boy never came though, as he was blasted away by an invisible force before he could land the final blow to decide the duel. Everyone was surprised, but the mages concluded that Kain had always had magic, just never been able to access it. It was a rare occurrence, but not unheard of. And him being in a frustrating and seemingly hopeless situation(even if it was just a training duel) allowed him to finally draw his powers to the surface. This newfound discovery meant that he had to begin his mage training immediately, as at his age he was very much a threat due to raw and uncontrolled power, as well as having no prior training meant that he was very susceptible to possession.

Mage training was incredibly different from normal fighting and challenged Kain like he never thought he would be. Impossibly long hours of nothing but studying. Learning proper breathing techniques and mental pictures for how to craft a spell into the world. Learning how to fight with a staff. It was grueling and he gained a new found respect for Mages as he lived and trained like one. But learning how to throw balls of fire, or create barriers...it was so surreal that the difficulty didn't matter. He just wanted to learn more. And learn more he did. From his mother, his grandfather, and the Inquisition's mages as well. He underwent years of training and had to work harder than most due to his fairly late start. It seemed to pay off though as he passed his Harrowing with flying colors and was officially titled as a Mage of the Inquisition on his twentieth birthday. As he was now officially a member of the Inquisition, he immediately went to work as a combat mage, fighting on the front lines when needed and in more specialized tasks when ordered.

He won many battles in the name of the Inquisition and even once traversed the Fade to save the Empress after a botched assassination attempt. This is and many other factors made him one of the top choices to become the next Inquisitor. When the position became available, a long debate was held, and finally it was decided that Kain would be the next leader of the Inquisition.

Other: Despite their wealth and status, Kain's parents don't seem to behave like the stereotypical Orelesian or Antivan. They're humble, dedicated, and hard working. They both engage in the political necessities that come with power(like "The Game" for instance), but only because it's necessary. They've tried to pass these virtues onto their son, but like all mortals he is not perfect. In fact it's the opposite, and he is very flawed. He loses his temper, makes mistakes, misjudges people; some would even say he hits the bottle too often...everything you would expect from a normal person.

The only difference is he has to work harder at being better because his mistakes tend to have large consequences. Also due to his recently gained status as Inquisitor, his houses have decided that control of House Valerian and House Santiago shall revert to other family members for the duration of his service to the Inquisition as Inquisitor. Should he be relieved of the position or fall in battle, his position shall be reinstated(posthumously in the case of the latter). To put it simply, his family decided that he would have too much power and didn't like that as he and his parents had seemingly shown more loyalty to the Inquisition. When he got the letter, all he could think of was how "appropriate" it seemed. His immediate family seemed to be the exceptions to the rule.

@Odanrav: Haha, well, if you're going for the Head Scout, you'll need to accept that you'll be filling (metaphorically) big shoes. :P But anyway! I likey! ^_^ I like the whole "Running from the Crows" angle, and I particularly like that she didn't go to Skyhold to join or seek sanctuary from The Inquisition; she's there to rob the place blind. XD Assuming that our characters get accepted, I would happily work with you on the whole "recommendation" thing. Perhaps she robs the place and makes her escape, and the Spymaster (Whoever that is) dispatches Kas to "solve the problem." She proves to be a match for him (Ex-Crow Vs. Ex-Ben-Hassrath would be a good match) and when he eventually corners and captures her, he decides to bring her in rather than kill her, and suggests that they give her a (probationary) position in The Inquisition due to her skills? It wouldn't be the first time The Inquisition made use of a defeated enemy or a criminal. Just a thought; being similar types (also, sorry for taking dual daggers :P ), it would make sense that they share a kind of understanding and maybe even a friendly rivalry? :-)

@Lustful Bride: Nice! An archer Knight-Captain, eh? Was that a Templar Knight-Captain, or just a soldier Knight Captain? An interesting concept, nonetheless. :D

@Juggtacular: You sure you don't want Blade to be a warrior instead? ;) :P Seriously, though, I like the concept (though I'm uncertain how a battle within the mind such as a Harrowing would leave a physical scar) and he looks to be a pretty beastly fighter. I know from experience that Knight Enchanter is a very powerful specialisation, so good choice there :P He might have to share that story about the Empress sometime, though...sounds like an interesting DLC pack all on its own. :P

Looks like an interesting game. I'll have to go away and think about a character.
If found acting like an idiot, apply Gibbs-slap to reboot system.

I thought about it as Blade is definitely a warrior in every sense of the word. But I really like his look and with a bit of suspension of disbelief, I can just say his sword is his Spirit Blade.  And yeah, that's why I said it was a WIP. I made some mistakes as I was writing it because I was tired and it was super late. The signals from brain to fingers got mixed a few times so I've gotta go back and do some editing. And the Empress story is a pretty interesting one I think. It's funny how I actually did think of a whole story in case he was asked to tell it in game.

Vergil Tanner

Haha, well, considering that the Spirit Blade is usually the size of a Japanese Anime Blade, I think I can give you that he has a smaller, more elegant one. :P But that decision is up to Primarch, haha. Although, personally speaking, I prefer the Arcane Warrior from Origins...the passives are much better without being as overpowered as the KE, if that makes any sense. :P Talking about mages, on a side note, I liked how the revelation that Demons are just Spirits perverted from their purpose/exposed to the wrong people was hinted at in Origins...I mean, Solas talks about "Wisdom being twisted into Pride," and the Pride Demon that a Mage Warden faces in their Harrowing (Well, we never saw Mouse's true form, but he was obviously a Pride Demon that was probably contracted by the other Mages to test the future Hero Of Fereldan) compliments the Mage OC on the "Wisdom" of not trusting a stranger in The Fade. Plus, see Justice/Vengeance. Just little things like that make me think that Bioware have been planning this all along...or they retrofitted and the matches are just coincidence.

ANYWAY! Back on topic!

Did your character go alone into The Fade to rescue the Empress? Because that's a feat worthy of The Hero of Ferelden, The Champion of Kirkwall and The (original) Inquisitor themselves, and they always did it with three mates backing them up...so did The Inquisitor have anybody with them that helped them out, or did they do it solo?

Also, out of sheer curiosity, what is your Inquisitors stance on Spirits/Demons? Are they all the same to him, or has he met Spirits (like Valor or Justice or Compassion) that have helped him before? Just wondering. :-)

Yeah, the Spirit Blade in Inquisition does look like a glowing, intricately carved Buster Sword, but I figured that since every mage is different, not every Spirit Blade would look the same. Or even that since the only physical part about the Blade is the hilt, that Knight-Enchanters can will their blade into different designs and shapes as long as it's still a sword. So a Ferelden KE might summon a Bastard Sword or Claymore, while an Orlesian might summon a rapier and an Antivan might make a short sword for example. Just a thought. And yeah, knowing that demons are corrupted spirits(usually through no fault of their own) makes them a bit more sympathetic. You know they're bad, but for the most part they are what people made them.

And no, he wasn't alone. He was with a group as is Bioware tradition, but he was the mage of the group so he did a lot of the work. Getting everyone into the Fade, directing them once they were there, etc...  Also as he was Half-Orlesian and his house is a noble one, he was there as a political agent as well if Orlais tried anything sneaky or antagonistic.

My vision for him is that he's a mage who takes being a mage seriously. Lots of study of the Fade, arcane tomes, magical history, etc... So he would know to differentiate between spirits and demons and probably has met multiple spirits in the Fade who helped cement the fact that the two are different and spirits clearly are not inherently bad. But they can be easily used and tainted as they are pure purpose with an almost want to be used by people who would fulfill that purpose. i.e. Justice wanted to be used so Anders could help bring justice and fair treatment to mages. But he was corrupted into Vengeance due to Anders intense hatred for Templars and his inability to get over that.

Vergil Tanner

Ooooh, good shout! Yeah, you're right, that would make a lot of sense... :O Make it a whip! Make it a whip! :P :P
Exactly...it also makes you wonder whether a Demon can be unperverted into Spirits, given the right stimulus. I guess we'll find out as Bioware makes more Dragon Age games. I mean, the ending of Inquisition is obviously a Sequel Hook. Which worked, damnit, because now I want to know what happens next. >.>

Fair enough! Do you know what the groups names are and keeping that part of the backstory strictly under your control, or are you leaving that vague so other players have the option to ask if their character could have been there as well (thereby giving some already-established links)? In a similar vein, how long ago was this event, do you reckon? How long as your character been The Inquisitor (assuming, of course, he gets accepted)?

Right, so he's more of a Solas than a Vivienne, then. (Spoiler: Don't highlight if you haven't finished the game and care about spoilers) It's actually kind of amusing when you get to the end of the game....all that arguing with Solas that Vivienne did, thinking that she's smarter and knows more about this shit than Solas, and you find out that she was arguing with Fen'Harel himself. Similarly, Blackwall losing at cards to Solas becomes funny when you realise that he was effectively playing poker with Loki. XD  (End of spoiler)

That's good to know! So he's kind of like "Spirits are people as well, but they need to be treated with caution, especially since I'm a very powerful mage." That makes sense. :-) I think that Kas, having grown up in the Qun, would be very wary of mages, but wouldn't necessarily agree with the Qun's assessment after knowing some "Free" Mages in Fereldan and Orlais...however, since he isn't exactly an arcane scholar, he would defer to the experts on the subject of Spirits Vs Demons. Of course, as a general rule of thumb, if they've crossed into "this world," they're probably hostile. XD

@Vergil Tanner: No idea. Im still figuring things out for her. Inquisition was my first Dragon Age game, im still learning the ropes.

To my shock and sadness I just learned that thanks to The Blight, Griffons really are extinct.  :'(

Aaah, I see. Well, if you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask...I'm a pretty big DA fan, so I know a lot of the lore, haha. If you wanted to be the Templar Knight Captain, you could be an archer but you probably wouldn't be allowed to use the Templar spec, since that's a Warrior spec and not a Rogue spec. If it was just a normal rank and file soldier Knight Captain, that's easier to justify having a dedicated archer for. :-)

As for the Griffons...
Again, if you care about spoilers for the DA Books, don't open this

Nope! In one of the DA books (I forget which one) a Grey Warden found a clutch of 13 healthy Griffon eggs in Dragon 9:42, 12 years after the Fifth Blight (the events of DA:O). Of course, it's also set one year after Inquisition starts, so it's likely a separate canon. However, the justification exists within the media, so if Bioware wanted, they could easily use it in the games. So....we may be seeing Griffons return to Thedas....
