So, question. I am currently in the process of making a Pander. Any guidelines on what sort of disciplines you feel should be available/unavailable to such a character?

I don't restrict Pander Disciplines overly much, but my big requirement is that they must make sense. For example, a Pander who knows Protean needs to have learned it from a Gangrel in their backstory, so I would expect a Gangrel mentor to appear when I read that section of a sheet. Panders shouldn't just be spontaneously manifesting Clan-specific disciplines like Vicissitude, Protean, Obtenebration, Dementation, etc., without some backstory element to justify it. I will generally look askance at any Pander who has more than two such 'unique' Disciplines, simply because anything beyond that pushes the bounds of believability for me.

To clarify something: Combination Disciplines are technically going to be permitted. However, you will have to justify them in your backstory if you take one at character generation--you have to have someone to teach you. They will be rare in this chronicle, but not unheard of. I'm also going to want any such power to make sense for what type of character you're making, of course.

Character Personality:
Soma is a defiant, rebellious, individual who wants to live life to the fullest. Now that she has eternity to do it in, she's started to think more about the inequalities of the world, and how to level them. She finds the Sabbat approach much to her liking, and having lived her life in a world where power is the only thing that matters, she's more than happy to have a piece of it for herself. She's fun-loving, gregarious, and gets very into her tasks. She is quick to fire up and quick to chill. She's happy to live a reckless life and maybe a bit too happy to take the rest of the world along for the ride with her.

Character History:
Soma doesn't remember much about who she was or why she's in Vegas. About six months before she became involved in the liberation army attack on the bank she was an expensive prostitute who mostly worked the Vegas casinos. She doesn't have any memory of her life before then, and when pressured claims to just not want to talk about it. She's okay with where she is now and doesn't really want to be anyone else, or know what happened that was so terrible she just shut it all out. She assumes she was a runaway who came to Vegas young and grew up on the streets, getting better and better at the world's oldest occupation until she could pay her own way with it. Thankfully in the City of Sin nobody really pushes so hard to know about other people. With no long term plan, rising in the morning not knowing if the day would end in one of the most expensive casinos or an alley, she didn't mind life in the fast line at all, even when it careened out of control. She always stayed in the casinos, liking the lack of permanency, and typically stayed in an expensive room in Caesar's Palace.  She never let a pimp touch her, at least not since her memory's come back, and was notorious for being one of the few hookers who took care of herself when she was on a stroll.

Soma was embraced by a Tzimisce who kept to the shadows even moreso than her kind usually did. Anastazie was the only name she went by, she had come to America as a refugee during the second world war, a legitimate refugee from an old world power struggle happening in the shadow of atrocity, and had grown disgusted by how peaceful it was. There were no upheavals, no revolutions, no change. It didn't sit right with her. So she put together her own little group of revolutionaries, fed them the best china white and the best new thinking and some impressive stacks of cash and had them ready to blow up every bank in Vegas. Soma felt this would be the ultimate rush, and her defiant streak had finally found a cause. She never stopped to think about if any of it really checked out, she just wanted to be part of something bigger.

When the time came though, her crew chickened out on her and left her alone holding the detonators as the police surrounded them. She was still swearing at them to get back when a police sniper took her out. She managed to crawl to her switch and hit it, only to die furious as she realized her crew had bailed before they'd even placed the charges right. Damage was done, but nowhere near what she was hoping for.

Then she woke up. Anastazie told her she had earned eternal life. And her first reward? Killing the ones who had left her to die. Soma did it with relish. She showed an instinct for livign life the Sabbat way that made her sire proud. When she had finished her first reward, Anastazie gave her her second, she set her free to do as she wished.

The two had a brief, passionate, intense romance as Soma showed her the sparkling side of Vegas. Anastazie showed her how to play doctor, a skill that would come in handy with the gifts she would one day discover, and the two enjoyed life to the fullest. Eventually it came to an end, and Anastazie retreated back into her shadowy ways, leaving her childer to change the world.

A few days after her sire announced she was essentially on her own, Soma made a friend in an usual fashion. At a concert in the showroom a certain human was being extremely obnoxious and heckling. When he started talking smack to Soma, she decked him and dragged him into a secluded corner to drain him. She was interrupted by a fellow kindred named Marcus King, who had been just about to do the same thing himself. The two shared their prey, then shared some booze and other fun things, and kicked off a rather unlikely relationship that isn't quite up for definition.

It does help! Part of me thought it would have been neat for like one clan-specific thing to show up. To create a whole "where did that come from" mystery, but it is nothing that makes or breaks the character. Just thought it would have been fun. (For the record, I was thinking of Serpentis specifically, but like I said, no big deal. ^_^)

Character Personality: Cy has, ever since he was a child, been absolutely fascinated by puzzles of any sort. Crosswords in the morning paper, Sudoku (once it becomes popular in the West), and the like. He actually taught himself how to read and write ahead of his peers, though his brightness was dim in comparison to one thing: his Obsession. His need to Know and to Understand everything.  He takes absolute joy in devouring books, it is true; but he understands that some times, it is best to play the part of the fool, for it loosens tongues, and their are secrets hiding within everyone's brain... secrets just waiting to be snatched away, and hoarded, as a dragon might gather gold, gem-encrusted baubles, and fair maidens.

Character History: A less than standard upbringing. He wasn't abused as a child, per se, he was just always left to his own devices. This led to a fiercely independent individual who became obsessed with finding ways to amuse himself [as above, this was mostly done with puzzles, brain teasers, and the like]. His prophetic ability didn't start to act up until around the time he hit puberty, which is when he began to become much... weirder.

He was bullied for his weirdness, which resulted in him learning not to defend himself, but rather focusing on escape and evade tactics, or just simply enduring it. It's not that he's a pacifist, it's just that there's so much to study, and studying is not really conducive to physical activity (although he tried--and usually failed--to try to find a balance).

He came to Las Vegas after receiving a vision of "blood floating on the water", a point of obsession that drove him to go to the "City of Shadows, Liars, and Thieves", which he took to be Vegas (Oracles aren't always easily understood, but he felt like it was a pretty good choice to start). He did decently well at the casinos and the like, having a good hunch for bets, and very infrequent card sharping. He made enough to get by.

He also dabbled in fortune telling, with a preference for Tarot Cards, though he also dabbles in bibliomancy (using a passage from a book to find an answer relative to the question), hematomancy (studying the patterns of shed blood), auspex (the traditional Greek version, which is observing the movement of clouds and birds), haruspex (animal entrails), and is always fascinated in finding new ways of divination.

One night, he was just on a street corner, minding his business, and watching the lights. And he saw something horrifying and eerily attractive in the neon glow. He started talking to himself, and given the time period, not too many people paid much mind to him; the strong divinations usually left him with a glazed look in his eyes, and a sort of swaying that people would typically associate with drunkenness or being on some other substance; more illicit.

He spoke of how the Sword of Caine shall rise, and that one day, the Towers of Ivory and Gold would come crumbling down, and none would be saved. He spoke of a Dark Father, skulking through the night, scales of judgment in his hands.

And who should be passing by that night, being picky about his dinner, except for Bishop Romano himself; someone who could understand. Someone who could see; was not Malkav himself a seer of great power? And what stood before the Bishop--a mortal with some sort of prophetic ability.

The clan needed this one. The Sabbat needed this one. And not much more than ten months ago, he saw the last sunrise he will ever truly see.

He took to his studies well. He already had a font of knowledge to draw upon, most of which was startling accurate (with a bit of chaff that needed to be cleared out), and his obsession with enigmas, puzzles, and the occult in general--not to mention his well above average mental prowess--he learned Rituals at an alarmingly fast rate; often times because he made strange but accurate leaps of faith and jumps to conclusions that would baffle most, but made perfect sense for the 'enlightened' Malkavian.

Some time around month three of his Embrace [for reference, he is ten months into his Embrace at the start of the chronicle, so this would be about half a year ago] the Bishops had to meet, and dragged along their prospective childer; Cy and Marcus. The two made some casual conversation while the Bishops had their private meeting, where they realized they were both absolutely fascinated by all things mystical and esoteric.

During their conversation, Marcus was witness to a moment of quiet contemplation and unresponsiveness from Cy. When the young Malkavian finally responded, he simply looked Marcus dead in the eyes, and proclaimed with a stern and powerful, nearly unearthly voice; and yet it was so deathly quiet as to be a whisper that only the two could hear. "The Emperor needs the blessings of The Hierophant. If you are The Emperor, then I shall be your Hierophant, when the night comes."

Many months later, Bishop Romano was ready to release his protege 'into the field' and get his hands dirty. He knew the Rites, and he knew enough to be able to spread his wings and take flight. At the same time, Marcus was busy assembling his pack, and realized he really needed a Priest... and that's when Cy's cryptic message just started echoing in his head, and he knew what he had to do.

Malkavian Derangement (Homebrewed)

OCPD: Cainites with this condition are particularly rigid and detail-oriented, often to the exclusion of all other things. If a Cainite with this condition is interrupted at a pre-planned task, the player has two options: 1) roll to resist Frenzy or 2) they can break from their plan to do the new task, but their dice pools suffer a -2 penalty until they can either accept the original task is no longer needed or until they can return to that task, as their mind is very clearly elsewhere. They cannot easily deviate from agreed-upon work or long-term goals.

Character Personality: As the first son in a litter of three children, Oboro has always pushed himself to stand above the rest.  As a mortal,she kepts to himself, spending more time with his rescue animals than other humans. Conversations with Oboro tended to be brief . She wanted affection, but knew it came best from animals she’d rescue.
At first sight, she seems olympian calm but behind this lies a rabid innovator and as such there are always better ways to achieve its goal. Tradition, for him, is a cage that prevents the imagination. Whatever she does, she strives to do better than what has been done.

Her past has forged her character. Indeed, she hates the fact that some people have it all easily without doing anything or that they are talented or gifted by the mere fact of a chance of nature. Se has now risen to the position she occupies by the force of her hard work.

She has an obsession that is to continually ensure her survival. It is an intelligent person and well educated. She interested about myths and legends collecting books on the subject.

Character History:
Oboro was suffering from health problems being treated with leeches. So she became an hidurotherapist. The young woman is a precursor because she is a transexual. She was a man before.
She passed one such house every morning of college. Dogs would constantly be baying, sounding pained and hungry. Her breaking and entering awoke more than a pack of dogs, as their Tzimisce owner descended upon her. The vampire  believed Orobor was a spy and tortured him at length, questioning her knowledge of Camarilla activities and the name of the Kindred to whom she was retainer. He Oroboro knew nothing, as became readily apparent to the Sabbat vampire. He made alterations on her body, modifying her stomach for an exclusive diet of the blood. The Tzimisce initially intended to kill Oboro, but upon returning to his haven one night to discover Oboro escaped from his bonds.

The Embrace that brought Oboro into the world of the Damned was a fluke. A pack of Sabbat made it all the way to Henderson from Boulder City, where its members decided to bolster their ranks and throw a few shovelheads at the Sheriff of Boulder City’s Hounds.
One of the pack’s Cainites grabbed Oboro, put the bite on her, pointed her southward, and told her to kill any other vampires she saw. In the throes of frenzy, Oboro did all of this and more, taking down two of the unsuspecting Hounds as well as four police and almost a score of innocent bystanders.
Following the event, she's traveling to Las Vegas. Though she took special care to avoid any unwanted attention, she had been spotted to the Sin City by clanmates of the Lasombra Bishop Sofia de Vimonte. Before she had a chance to react, she were ambushed by the archbishop’s highly-skilled agents. Oboro invited to Bishop’s estate.  Following the ambush, Oboro was follow to a sprawling estate in the Las Vegas. In the bowels of this sprawling estate, Bishop and his allies discuted with Oboro with the intent on converting her into a member of the Sabbat. She explains how she embraced and that accomplished to Henderson.
The bishop managed to sway Oboro into joining the Sabbat by promising her additional training and an opportunity to earn a new title in exchange for her loyalty.
Being a well-to-do occult bookstore owner, she attracted the attention from an amerindian Ravnos named Spider. This latter interested by the occult knowledge. In return, he will instructed about his disciplines. The Ravnos was true to his word, and did begin to instruct her ally in combination discipline from his clan as he had promised. Oboro returned the favor by teaching her occult knowledge.
In her bookstore, she practice the hidurotherapy with some clients with the leeches ghoul to provide blood for her and relieve her patients. In the cellar below the bookstore, she sleeps in the custody of a swarm of mosquitoes and a dog.

Character Personality: Chal was a monster before his embrace, though he never got around to killing anyone before someone got around to killing him. He enjoyed inflicting pain on others, a pleasure he has turned to a passion since he was made a vampire though he is not in truth a sadist. He has a brutal and savage joy for his new existence, thriving in the Sabbat and giving his all to it in turn.

Character History: Isaac Kinkade was born just after World War 2, and was unremarkable but for his fine features. He worked as taxi driver for a few years when he caught the eye of who would eventually become his sire.

The vampire visited him, bound, bled and tortured him, depriving Isaac - or Chalcedony as he called him - of his vitae until he suffered harsh withdrawals. Only then would his to-be sire release him and allow him to take what he wanted... needed.

It was a pattern that would repeat itself for several years, his to-be sire escalating his game to a cross-state cat-and-mouse, baiting Chal to pursue him for his fix, suffering at his sire’s hands when he finally caught up.

When they hit Las Vegas, his sire finally took the last step and Embraced Chal and put him through the Creation Rites while others of his pack made sacrificial offerings of their own ghouls or neonates. This was intensely traumatic for Chal, but he proved himself to be a valuable resource once sense had returned to him, aiding his sire and his pack as a getaway driver. During that time, they crossed paths with Isabelle who his sire disliked - the feeling mutual - but Chalcedony caught her attention, and worked towards acquiring him before his sire could ruin his potential in his undisciplined and feral pack.   

Chalcedony doesn’t know how, but when his sire quit Vegas he bade Chalcedony stay behind, under the command of Isabella. He is both heartbroken and relieved to be out of his tormentor's grasp.

Character Personality: Valen holds a lot of rage and resentment inside, but has learned to temper it to some degree.  While he would have liked to consider himself a loner he knows now that he's not.  He needs others to help keep him somewhat stable.  He was raised to serve his country, his family, and now the Sabbat has gained that focus and drive.  He can be a bit quiet at times, but he's a stubborn man and will speak his mind when he deems it necessary.



Character History: Valen was a patriot, or at least he used to be.  He didn't have to be conscripted for the war in Vietnam, he volunteered when he turned eighteen.  He served with distinction until he was injured and sent back to the states to recover.  It was a long recovery, months of healing and when it was done he was left with scars that ran from just beneath his right ear, down his body, almost to his waist, the flesh twisted and discolored.

His years serving his country had already left him a rather bitter and broken man by the time he met his Sire while on a trip to Las Vegas, a type of celebration that his recovery was complete.  It was all too easy to use his anger, resentment and need against him, which his soon to be Sire did, it only took a night and everything changed for him.  He wouldn't learn until later that Garroway had been watching him from almost the moment he'd arrived in the city, that he'd specifically been targeting Marines. 

His Sire spent a great deal of time and effort on him, more than he saw with others.  For six months he learned from him, but the Golconda was barely mentioned.  There was no push for him to seek it, instead, he was taught to hate.  It wasn't a stretch for him, already angry at the world.  When Garroway told him to diablerize him he didn't understand at first.  In the end, he truly didn't have a choice.  Before he did what his Sire bade him he was told to seek out Isabella, but he waited, not wanting to tie himself to anyone or anything after his Sire was gone. 

It was a mistake, and a particularly horrifying and bloody night taught him that lesson.  He went to Isabella the next day.  He underwent the creation rites months later, after proving that he could be of use to the Sabbat, his hatred of the Camarilla was instilled by his sire, and knows few bounds.  He needed a focus for his anger and hatred, and the Camarilla was it.
