My vote goes for The Second Seige of Mar Sara

Good man Zorro!

On another note, would it be possible for a Marine specialist with a chaingun mounted under each gauntlet and knuckle mounted rotating serrated blades?

Think the closest thing for you primarch is the "Marauder" which is the old firebat but instead of flame throwers it has a grenade launcher under each wrist.

Urbanzorro

Not exactly on topic, but I did once see a very cool picture of a WH40K Space Marine and a Terran Marine slugging it out in their respective armors.

Well QM has described specialists we can use and by his example he's pretty flexible with what we can do and he's said that changing equipment is okay. So a Marine with a heavier weapons doesn't seem like a far stretch, possibly using an improved suit to handle the additional recoil and the like.

Question Mark

Time's up...  The final votes are:

3 for Oblivion Incarnate
2 for Merc Heaven
2 for The Second Siege of Mar Sara Colony

Oblivion Incarnate it is!  A couple of notes relevant to the plot.

  • The game will take place on the moon RX1-01 (collioquially "Rex") in a system on the edge of the Korpulu Sector four years after the events of Brood War, immediately after the beginning of Wings of Liberty.
  • Rex is an earth sized moon that orbits the gas giant RX1: the lone satellite of the lone planet in the system.
  • Rex is barren, with virtually no atmosphere (an oddity that initially drew terran scientists) and a rocky, forlorn landscape.  The only area of note is the sprawling Xel'Naga shrine.
  • There are approximately 100 people on Rex, all stationed on a small prefab research colony.  ~70 are civilian scientists and support staff, the rest are Dominion military (a note for those looking to make military characters: this is considered a backwater assignment.  Your character probably pissed someone off to wind up here, or were sent here because they were too good to kill, or they may have even requested it.)
  • Only the outer portion of the shrine is accessible; the vast majority of the complex is locked away, and they only know it's there because of seismic scans.
  • I will include more details about when and how the game will start once I recieve all of the character sheets!

Aiden

Damn, I'm going to guess this setting will not permit a former confederate loyalist who is on the way to the ice house but his transport ship goes down.

*To the drawing board*

Question Mark

He could be a former Confederate loyalist who rejoined the military and was sent to the ass-end of nowhere due to his prior loyalties...

ShadowFox89

Could I go with a former Spectre who was on her way to New Folsom (a bit before Tosh shows up in the game)? I like characters who are a bit... broken. Makes them interesting to play.

If you can come up with a good reason for her being on Rex, go right ahead!

And if you're looking for "broken," might I reccomend a resoc'd marine a la Speed of Darkness?  They're fucked up pretty bad in the head, and it expresses itself in all kinds of different ways.

ShadowFox89

I think I'd like to keep her reasons for being on Rex a secret, I'll send you the ideas....

Hey!

Remember when I was cool and tried to make a Starcraft RP but since I'm terrible at running games that it didn't work out so nicely?

Well, I'm still cool and still terrible at running games, but I was hoping maybe kinda sorta I could join one if it is at all possible? :D Still a big fan of the universe and I totally won't hog the one and only Ghost position like I did in my game. Unless you guys want me to, then I TOTALLY WILL. :P

ShadowFox89

I will fight you for the position of ghost/spectre D:

Unless Questionable would be cool with us doing some sort of cooperative background >.>

Hey!

I remember you!  It'd be awesome to have you in this game!

FYI, settling who gets the ghost is up to the players.  It's like that scene from Dark Knight when Joker breaks the pool cue in half so the black dude's minions could fight to the death.  Or something.

My sanity is Questionable but I am not :p

Like I said earlier, if you can come up with a good reason why there would be more than one ghost/specter on Rex, I'll let it fly.

So Question Mark, do you want us to just post up CSs here, or send them to you?

@Rachubka   I went back and read through Infestation; it's over two years old now!  We had a good setup there.  It's too bad it never got off the ground  :(  I wouldn't say it was your fault though.  Shit happens sometimes (Also, I kind of stopped posting because of college...  :-[ )

@Countdown: Like I said, I'd like you to PM me your characters directly.  After we make sure they're realistic and fit into the game, you can post them in the Character Thread (which, along with the OOC thread, I'll be making later).  Feel free to collaborate, make back stories with other characters, etc!

Speaking of threads, I was thinking of putting this game in the NC: Exotic Freeform board, just so we have all of the bases covered if and when sexy time occurs.

Another thing: I've been toying with the idea of using a pseudo-system for this game.  It would just involve a dice roll in combat to smooth out fight scenes (e.g. Bob attempts a difficult shot to kill a zergling.  He makes a roll and adds it to his post.  I then determine if he hits and describe the results of his actions.  Combat continues).  There would be no character sheets, modifiers, hit points, etc.  Just a dice roll.  Opinions, concerns, comments?

ShadowFox89

Sounds fine to me. Could even try using the FATE system if we have no hardliners against systems....

I never enjoyed an overtly simple system myself. If a system doesn't doesn't allow for different people to represent their strengths & weaknesses or isn't modified by situations/equipment it just seems pointless.

If we were going to take the system route, I'd rather it be complex enough to allow characters to be represented as is appropriate to their character type.

Aiden

I can play light system, heavy system or free form, I just want to play some starraft!

My conception for my character is based of a firebat formerly from the Blood Hawks (Alpha squad) turned Merc, who "deserted" the Dominion, was caught and "re socialized" (poorly) but then stationed on the back water planet.

Countdown0

Alright, I'll make my character now :D

Also, I'm fine with playing a system, but I see a flaw. Some characters, like my would-be High Templar and someone else playing a Ghost/Spectre will be extremely powerful if they follow lore, and will seem very weak relative to their rank and position if they do not follow lore.

Was transferred from the Spectre program to New Fulsom but intercepted part way there by an unknown party.
Biography:
Sonya Devistri was diagnosed as a latent psychic immediately after birth, where she was put into the care of the Terran Dominion to undergo training. She grew up without much of what could be called a childhood, spending her early years training to control her psychic potential and learning to kill. As a teenager, Sonya and several other female ghost candidates were dropped off in the middle of the slums of Tarsonis, psychic inhibitors active, dressed in nothing but rags. They were then told to make their way back to the base without revealing who they were. Of the dozen girls, Sonya was the only to avoid an ill fate.
Sonya started active service at the age of seventeen. She fought against the Sons of Khorhal, assassinating key cell leaders. Then the Zerg appeared. Sonya was reassigned to the front lines, going on covert strike missions into Zerg held territory to paint Hives for nuclear strikes. She saw humans being mutated into horrible, twisted monstrosities, and put a bullet in them all the same. While her training did not prepare her for such horrors, Sonya remained unchanged throughout. When the Protoss arrived, Sonya was fascinated with the race and took assignments that would bring her closer to them.
Cut to a few years later, the Dominion fell and Sonya was shuffled into the Confederacy. When the UED arrived, Sonya again saw action on the front lines. This time, instead of killing aliens, she was sent out to assassinate other humans. Battleship captains, goliath squad leaders, it didn't matter. By the time the Brood War ended, Sonya had stopped counting her targets. Her last mission came after the Brood War, with the rise of the Raynor's Raiders.
It was going to be a simple mission. Four ghosts to infiltrate a contact group for the Raiders. The mission went sideways from the start, with the drop ship being hit by an AA missile and going down. The rogue marines in the contact group were prepared and the bunker was heavily trapped. While the mission succeeded, Sonya was heavily injured and the three other ghosts were registered as KIA.
After that, she was "volunteered" into the Spectre program. Shortly after, she was dropped out of the program for unspecified reasons and transferred to New Fulsom. On her way there, the prison ship was intercepted by an unknown force and somehow ended up RX1-01.

Other Notes: Terrazine exposure has left Sonya's sense of morals skewed. She believes that people are always looking for an angle to benefit themselves, and acts accordingly. She has an obsession with the Protoss, claiming "to want to see what they look like on the inside"

I'm gonna call a place holder on Ryan Hurst for the visual, I've used him a few times in other similiar themed games and I really pictured him as a damn good fire bat.
