"Hell, it's about time."

IC Thread
OOC Thread
Character Thread

So ya, Starcraft.  It's awesome.  I've been wanting to start a Starcraft game for several weeks now, but it was Sorchaa's interest thread that finally got the ball rolling.  A couple of things:

  • This is a story focused game.  Have all the sex you want, and don't let anyone stop you!  But this game will have a plot, and said plot will be the game's primary focus.
  • Knowledge of the Starcraft 'Verse is obviously a plus, but it's certainly not a requirement.  That said, this game will adhere to established lore: no crossovers please. :)
  • If you have a protoss character in mind, pass it by me first and we'll work something out.  No zerg characters.
  • Although there are several potential story hooks below, I'm hoping people will offer their own suggestions.  Ultimately, we'll vote on a story hook.
  • Obviously, the more frequently you can post, the better.  However, there will be no predetermined order or speed to posting.
  • Real life, curse its name, happens.  If you know you're going to be unable to post for a time, or you no longer want or are unable to be in the game, please let me know ASAP.  The sooner the better, so we can arrange for what happens to your character.
  • If you have any questions, whether about the lore or details concerning the game, feel free to ask either by PM or in the OOC threads.
  • I'm looking for five players, ideally.  First come, first serve.  I can be flexible though.

The Story Hooks

A New World
After the depopulating Brood War, Terrans renewed their efforts to expand and recolonize.  Most of the territory lost to the Swarm was retaken, and a few new planets were settled as well.  One such colony, named Prosperity, was a relatively barren world rich in vital ores.  Although cold and possessing little native life, it was quickly settled by industrious people from all walks of life, looking to start anew.  A large mining town named Bounty sprouted up.  Fast forward four years, and the Swarm has returned, it's intent seemingly to eradicate all Terran life.  They storm the planet, overrunning it within days.  They appear to be searching for something.  A Protoss fleet has also followed them to Prosperity, fighting the Zerg but doing little to protect the Terrans.  Seemingly abandoned by the Dominion, the survivors of the initial assault desperately search for a way off world.

Oblivion Incarnate
The Terrans, ever inquisitive, have discovered an alien shrine on a distant moon.  Constructed by the Xel'Naga eons ago, the shrine is vast and sprawling, but seems to serve no known purpose.  Our characters would be part of a research team who have settled here semi-permanently to investigate the shrine and it's builders.  Although the Swarm initially avoids it during its resurgence, the isolated research team finds themselves stalked by a monstrous being that has awoken in the bowels of the shrine.  An unholy fusion of Zerg and Protoss, this Hybrid is urgently searching for a way off world, and is more than willing to slaughter a handful of pitiful Terrans along the way.

Raiders, Roll!
Raynor's Raiders has become one of the major forces at play in the Koprulu Sector, with tens of thousands of soldiers fighting the Dominion and the Swarm, commanding everything from freighters to battlecruisers into the fray.  But this major military rebellion had humble beginnings: a small group of militia and refugees following their Marshall into the unknown as their world burned in the void.  Forced to ally with the dissident Arcturus Mengsk and his Sons of Korhal after Mar Sara's destruction, Raynor and his ragged followers join the fight to overthrow the corrupt and militaristic Confederacy.  With powerful alien races annihilating entire worlds, their mettle will be tested in this unfolding conflict.

Merc Heaven
D-3974, a.k.a. Dead Man's Rock, is a rugged planet on the fringe of the Koprulu Sector.  Notoriously lawless and ignored by both the Dominion and the rampaging Swarm, the planet is dominated by inhospitable badlands and ruled by crime lords and mercenary groups.  The many space stations that clutter its orbit are decrepit, teeming with smugglers and pirates.  A dangerous locale for most people, Dead Man's Port is the closest to heaven mercenaries will ever get.  Contracts are plentiful and well paid, although one stands out in particular: Warlord Joy, ruler of the town of Paradise, is looking for several mercenaries to retrieve a "special something-something."  She's notorious for her often suicidal contracts, but the survivors are always richly rewarded.

The Second Siege of Mar Sara Colony
Despite being overrun by the zerg and sterilized by the protoss, the colonists of Mar Sara have endured.  in 2501, Kel-Morians staked claims on Mar's rich and unique mineral deposits.  Within months, Mar Sara was recolonized by many of its former inhabitants, seeking to terraform their damaged world.  Four years later, the zerg Swarm returned en masse.  With Dominion defenses in disarray due to the actions of Jim Raynor, the colony was virtually defenseless until a Dominion officer managed to rally his forces and organize a militia to keep the zerg at bay.  The survivors of the initial blitz have gathered in Mar Sara City; Dominion soldiers rub elbows with Kel-Morian miners, backwater militia mingle with city-folk, and even mercs set aside their grudges (for now).  But the Swarm's onslaught is endless, and both ammunition and hope are in short supply.

Oblivion Incarnate won the vote!  Here are a few details specific to this plot...

  • The game will take place on the moon RX1-01 (collioquially "Rex") in a system on the edge of the Korpulu Sector four years after the events of Brood War, immediately after the beginning of Wings of Liberty.
  • Rex is an earth sized moon that orbits the gas giant RX1: the lone satellite of the lone planet in the system.
  • Rex is barren, with virtually no atmosphere (an oddity that initially drew terran scientists) and a rocky, forlorn landscape.  The only area of note is the sprawling Xel'Naga shrine.
  • There are approximately 100 people on Rex, all stationed on a small prefab research colony.  ~70 are civilian scientists and support staff, the rest are Dominion military (a note for those looking to make military characters: this is considered a backwater assignment.  Your character probably pissed someone off to wind up here, or were sent here because they were too good to kill, or they may have even requested it.)
  • Only the outer portion of the shrine is accessible; the vast majority of the complex is locked away, and they only know it's there because of seismic scans.
  • I will include more details about when and how the game will start once I recieve all of the character sheets!

Oblivion Incarnate sounds fun, maybe playing as a Specter... I could re-work Sonya for this....

I'd definitely be interested in any of these hooks.

My preference would be to play a Protoss character if I could...

Expressing possible interest in any of them, perhaps Oblivion Incarnate in particular. I'd be most interested in playing either a protoss, a ghost, or a terran scientist (maybe a young intern-scientist or something).

Quick question on protoss sexuality: uh, does it exist?

ShadowFox89

 There are female protoss.....

I think in their case, it's literal mind fucking.

Countdown0

There are female Protoss, which means they have physical, scientifically defined "sex."

Also, Protoss record age, which means at some point, they must be "born," so to speak. My assumption would be that they do go through some for of sexual reproduction, though what form it takes, I can only guess.

I will note that Zeratul, in Wings of Liberty, does wear something akin to a loin cloth, along with his armor and robes. It may just be decorative, or it may be concealing genitals. Only a Blizzard employee could say for certain.

Question Mark

HEY!  Thanks for all of the interest, and I'm sorry I haven't been on the ball this past week.  I was hoping more people would join, to be honest, but four is still a great number (unless you live in China)!

So far, we've got two votes for Oblivion Incarnate and one for Merc Heaven.  To be fair, I'll give Countdown and anyone else looking to join until 19:00 EST tomorrow (Sept. 25) to cast a vote.  I'll decide tiebreakers.

In the meantime, I'll work up some character sheets.  You can whip one up before the plot is chosen, or you can wait until after to better customize your character.  Your choice!  Either way, please PM them to me.  After they're confirmed, you can post them in the Character Thread (which I'll add once the game starts).

I would like to express the shit out of some interest in this, and would put in a vote for the "The Second Siege of Mar Sara Colony."
Would a Ghost/Spectre character be possible? Ideally the Raynor's Raider version but if not a standard Marine will suffice.

Cold Heritage

Thank you, fellow Elliquiyan, and have a wonderful day.

Question Mark

2 for Merc Heaven

1 for The Second Siege of Mar Sara Colony

A note on Ghosts and Spectres.  I will allow one, and only one, Ghost or Spectre in the game, unless you collaborate with another player who is also planning on making a Ghost/Spectre to come up with a good reason (e.g. two person team, one hunting the other, etc.).

ShadowFox89

Well, I'm hoping for either a spectre or some sort of specialist.... The grunt style character doesn't really appeal to me.

My A/A

Question Mark

Ghosts and Spectres are just too rare for there to be more than one without a very good reason.  Specialists, however, are fair game.  I remember one of my older games had a professional SCV pilot.  I'm talking record setting mineral volume mining, designer for several SCV mods, with his own souped up SCV that had a minigun mounted on the shoulder and armor plating covering the cockpit.

That.  Shit.  Was.  Awesome.

Be creative people!

ShadowFox89

Well, I was thinking of someone who likes to sneak into a base and cause as much destruction as possible. Think Tanya from Red Alert.

Question Mark

Never played Red Alert  ???

Also, your character would depend on why she was sneaking into a base and what sort of trouble she was causing.

Question Mark

Updated the first post with the character sheets.  I'd recommend holding off on doing them until we know which plot we'll be using, so you can better tailor your character to the game.

I can't wait to see what you guys come up with.

Countdown0

I'll vote for Oblivion Incarnate then. Having a Hybrid to fight will just be too cool.

I'd like to be able to play a Protoss Hight Templar if I could. He could have been at the shrine where the Terran researchers are, having been seeking out its purpose himself. That said, he owuld have been there for a long time, maybe several years, doing dedicated studies of the Xel'Naga.

Think I'll switch to a Marine Specialist, the guy that's done it all. Spat in the face of the nastiest Zerg you ever saw and has the fake knee & wall mounted skull to prove it.

Admitedly the plots shown do not interest me a whole ammount, but I thought I would clear a few things up for people.

There is female protoss, this is shown by the matriarch of the dark templar in the first game, as well as high executor selendis in wings of liberty, the latter of which having the hots for Tassadar, so the idea of protoss reproduction is pretty legitimate.

Question Mark

A note on combat roles: you don't have to conform to ingame units like Marauders or Reapers.  You could be a marine with a standard suit, just using the marauder's grenade launcher, or with a reaper's jump-jets juryrigged to the back.  Or a hellion pilot with a chaingun instead of a flamethrower.  If it's plausible, it'll work.

Urbanzorro: Whenever you can!  I don't require a specific posting rate or order, but a quicker posting rate is obviously preferable. Generally, three days without a post will earn a PM from me asking what's up.

@Silk: What would you have in mind?  We can always adjust them or add new ones.

Think the closest thing for you primarch is the "Marauder" which is the old firebat but instead of flame throwers it has a grenade launcher under each wrist.

Not exactly on topic, but I did once see a very cool picture of a WH40K Space Marine and a Terran Marine slugging it out in their respective armors.

Well QM has described specialists we can use and by his example he's pretty flexible with what we can do and he's said that changing equipment is okay. So a Marine with a heavier weapons doesn't seem like a far stretch, possibly using an improved suit to handle the additional recoil and the like.

Question Mark

Time's up...  The final votes are:

3 for Oblivion Incarnate
2 for Merc Heaven
2 for The Second Siege of Mar Sara Colony

Oblivion Incarnate it is!  A couple of notes relevant to the plot.

Damn, I'm going to guess this setting will not permit a former confederate loyalist who is on the way to the ice house but his transport ship goes down.

*To the drawing board*

Question Mark

He could be a former Confederate loyalist who rejoined the military and was sent to the ass-end of nowhere due to his prior loyalties...

ShadowFox89

Could I go with a former Spectre who was on her way to New Folsom (a bit before Tosh shows up in the game)? I like characters who are a bit... broken. Makes them interesting to play.

If you can come up with a good reason for her being on Rex, go right ahead!

And if you're looking for "broken," might I reccomend a resoc'd marine a la Speed of Darkness?  They're fucked up pretty bad in the head, and it expresses itself in all kinds of different ways.

FYI, settling who gets the ghost is up to the players.  It's like that scene from Dark Knight when Joker breaks the pool cue in half so the black dude's minions could fight to the death.  Or something.

@Rachubka   I went back and read through Infestation; it's over two years old now!  We had a good setup there.  It's too bad it never got off the ground  :(  I wouldn't say it was your fault though.  Shit happens sometimes (Also, I kind of stopped posting because of college...  :-[ )

@Countdown: Like I said, I'd like you to PM me your characters directly.  After we make sure they're realistic and fit into the game, you can post them in the Character Thread (which, along with the OOC thread, I'll be making later).  Feel free to collaborate, make back stories with other characters, etc!

Speaking of threads, I was thinking of putting this game in the NC: Exotic Freeform board, just so we have all of the bases covered if and when sexy time occurs.

Another thing: I've been toying with the idea of using a pseudo-system for this game.  It would just involve a dice roll in combat to smooth out fight scenes (e.g. Bob attempts a difficult shot to kill a zergling.  He makes a roll and adds it to his post.  I then determine if he hits and describe the results of his actions.  Combat continues).  There would be no character sheets, modifiers, hit points, etc.  Just a dice roll.  Opinions, concerns, comments?

ShadowFox89

Sounds fine to me. Could even try using the FATE system if we have no hardliners against systems....
Call me Shadow
My A/A

Primarch

I never enjoyed an overtly simple system myself. If a system doesn't doesn't allow for different people to represent their strengths & weaknesses or isn't modified by situations/equipment it just seems pointless.

If we were going to take the system route, I'd rather it be complex enough to allow characters to be represented as is appropriate to their character type.

Aiden

I can play light system, heavy system or free form, I just want to play some starraft!

My conception for my character is based of a firebat formerly from the Blood Hawks (Alpha squad) turned Merc, who "deserted" the Dominion, was caught and "re socialized" (poorly) but then stationed on the back water planet.

Countdown0

Alright, I'll make my character now :D

Also, I'm fine with playing a system, but I see a flaw. Some characters, like my would-be High Templar and someone else playing a Ghost/Spectre will be extremely powerful if they follow lore, and will seem very weak relative to their rank and position if they do not follow lore.

Was transferred from the Spectre program to New Fulsom but intercepted part way there by an unknown party.
Biography:
Sonya Devistri was diagnosed as a latent psychic immediately after birth, where she was put into the care of the Terran Dominion to undergo training. She grew up without much of what could be called a childhood, spending her early years training to control her psychic potential and learning to kill. As a teenager, Sonya and several other female ghost candidates were dropped off in the middle of the slums of Tarsonis, psychic inhibitors active, dressed in nothing but rags. They were then told to make their way back to the base without revealing who they were. Of the dozen girls, Sonya was the only to avoid an ill fate.
Sonya started active service at the age of seventeen. She fought against the Sons of Khorhal, assassinating key cell leaders. Then the Zerg appeared. Sonya was reassigned to the front lines, going on covert strike missions into Zerg held territory to paint Hives for nuclear strikes. She saw humans being mutated into horrible, twisted monstrosities, and put a bullet in them all the same. While her training did not prepare her for such horrors, Sonya remained unchanged throughout. When the Protoss arrived, Sonya was fascinated with the race and took assignments that would bring her closer to them.
Cut to a few years later, the Dominion fell and Sonya was shuffled into the Confederacy. When the UED arrived, Sonya again saw action on the front lines. This time, instead of killing aliens, she was sent out to assassinate other humans. Battleship captains, goliath squad leaders, it didn't matter. By the time the Brood War ended, Sonya had stopped counting her targets. Her last mission came after the Brood War, with the rise of the Raynor's Raiders.
It was going to be a simple mission. Four ghosts to infiltrate a contact group for the Raiders. The mission went sideways from the start, with the drop ship being hit by an AA missile and going down. The rogue marines in the contact group were prepared and the bunker was heavily trapped. While the mission succeeded, Sonya was heavily injured and the three other ghosts were registered as KIA.
After that, she was "volunteered" into the Spectre program. Shortly after, she was dropped out of the program for unspecified reasons and transferred to New Fulsom. On her way there, the prison ship was intercepted by an unknown force and somehow ended up RX1-01.

Other Notes: Terrazine exposure has left Sonya's sense of morals skewed. She believes that people are always looking for an angle to benefit themselves, and acts accordingly. She has an obsession with the Protoss, claiming "to want to see what they look like on the inside"

Birthplace: Tarsonis City, Tarsonis
Major Battles: The Sara System Wars, The defense of Tarsonis (Deserted to the Raiders), The many battles with the Raiders up until his capture and "resocializtion"
Biography:
Clint Stone was the last person one would expect to find in the corp. He came from a prominent family and while he was not of the "Old families", they had enough sway to avoid the draft or criminal charges that would result in enlistment. Clint was a wild child, arrogant and felt he could rule the world because his family was a well known "speeder bike" manufacturer and he had money to burn. The "rebel" spent plenty of time partying with the "upper class" citizens of the city and ignored his god given gifts that many of the Stone family were graced with. Most Stones excelled in mechanic work, it was the reason they stood above the others when the original ships landed long before his time. Despite his parents wishes he continued to waste away his life until he messed with the wrong man's daughter.

The judge made it simple, enlist or jail. His parents swore they would be able to make some calls and get him out, sadly those calls never made it and Clint stone managed a "clear" past boot camp. His skills were noticed and he was promptly assigned to Alpha Squadron, with no way to get out except to serve his time he attempted to make the best of it. His job was simple, he spent most of his time tucked away in the service bays and never saw combat, that was until Duke's flag ship was shot down on Antigua Prime.

Clint happened to be on that ship and staying alive meant that non combativeness like him had to suit up, it was the best (and scariest) decision of his life. The former brat thrived in the suit, managed not to embarrass himself as they were being airlifted he was taken down by a horde of zerglings. The tanks in his suit were punctured and he almost lost his arms to burns but he passed out a Confederate and woke up a Son of Korhal.

Arcturus Mengsk had saved them but anyone in Alpha Squadron knew their enemy was this rebel terrorist but they owed their lives to the man and Clint served. In those years Clint found in the corp what he had lacked all his life, a brotherhood but all that changed when he learned that Arcturus had ordered for the psi emmiters placed on Tarsonis, dooming his home planet. Like many others he deserted to the raiders and fought along side the Outlaw Jim Raynor for a period of time before going his own way as a mercenary.

Life was good, he had settled down and worked security for a bar on an off world planet until the Dominion rolled in and he was identified as a deserter. He made it clear he loathed Mengsk and everything the Dominion stood for, big mistake. After serving time on the Icehouse and a "failed" socialization, he was conscripted back into the corp and set on backwater assignments despite his long history of combat and service.

Other Notes: While never considered by the special ops program of the confederacy or dominion, Clint managed to avoid having his memories erased by the "resocialization". Gaps in his memories exist and he becomes very annoyed when he finds one but he will never forget that Arcturus Mengsk ordered the death of his family and waits for the day to have his vengeance, leave the Dominions once more or even join the raiders if it is his only option.

I've only received three characters so far!!  Koyuma, Shadow, Rachubka, Cold, Silk, and Urban: if you're still interested in this game, please let me know ASAP!  (or not, we'll just start without you)

I initially wanted to keep everyone's characters private for certain plot reasons that will remain undisclosed, but since Aiden posted his in this thread, everyone else can as well.  Primarch, Countdown, feel free to post your sheets.  Everyone else, you can still PM your sheet if you want, or you can just post it to this thread.

Characters people!  Chop chop!

Fuck yes, here comes a Marine!

God I love Starcraft power armor

Nice to have you Dan!  I love powered armor too (thx Heinlein!)

I believe we're going to have a lot of military characters...  I wonder if anyone's going to make a civilian?

I suppose.  I don't get it personally though.  The Starcraft game is almost entirely focused on the military aspects of the Koprulu Sector, so why would I make a military character?  It's been done to death; a civilian or non military character is much more interesting, a chance to explore new aspects of the 'Verse (to me anyways).

Nope.  So far we have a protoss, an ex-firebat, and an ace Viking pilot.  Rachubka did express interest as a Ghost/Specter though, so I would collaborate/discuss the subject with her if I were you.

SGTDan

Do you mind if I make a Sergeant with a sqaud under my command?

I am not glued to my current rank, I was going off the original starcraft ranking, I was not sure if Firebats were corporals or sargs.

Either way, due to my history, I don't care if my rank is lower

Wargtass

Very intriguing indeed... are we still allowed to submit Protoss? The scenario seem to be heavily focused on humans is all, but I wouldn't mind being more in the background at the start of it all.
O/O

Question Mark

Protoss are eligible, but they will require a little extra effort.  After all, the terrans already have a reason to be there, but a protoss will need a unique reason.  If you want to make a protoss, I'd suggest talking to Countdown.  He's already submitted one of the Firstborn, so maybe you could collab something.  *shrug* It's up to you!

BTW, I'm still waiting on a bunch of sheets.  I'm starting this game one way or another Tuesday night, regardless of who's actually submitted.  If you want to participate, get your character done!

Wargtass

I'll give him a poke, I do not dare make any move until I know what he has in mind. Would be a bit weird if there were two High Templars after all...

Well same could be said about any image that is not a detailed sketch or photograph. It's hard to find pictures that describes exactly the vision you exactly have in mind. I for one usually find a picture that I can build the character around rather than try to find a picture for a pre-conceptualized character.

I don't really see a problem in it, mostly because I always re-imagine any roleplay-characters into a more animated kind of comic-book style in my head, no matter what image is shown to me. I think it might be a defense-mechanism I have developed over the years because of the very large mix of image styles that are being used in these kind of forum-RP communities.

Anyway, I'll stop rambling now.  ;D

I'm the same. Generally speaking if I'm running a game that's not based on anime, I request no anime as its generally very visually inconsistent with everything else people will be using or outright inappropriate. I always get a PM asking if someone can use "an appropriate anime picture" and its never appropriate, unrealistic proportions/wilde hair colours/gigantic shoes. Or someone will outright post an app with anime then I've got to be the bad guy and request it changed. Very unfair on someone going to the effort of setting up and running a game.

Heh, it's really not that big of a deal.  I get what Fox is going for with his character; anime is just a pet peeve of mine, and usually makes for a very poor portrait.  His picture honestly isn't that bad, but it's still anime...

I personally like very realistic, descriptive, and portrait-like pictures for my characters.  Appearances are just that: what they look like.  And IMO, that's all they should be.  But to each their own!

I just pulled it off the wiki and that's what the tag said.

I hate using photos because I can never find someone who looks like how I want. It's easier to get a sketch or drawing, this one just happens to be in a style other than ugly.

If it's just a pet peeve, go to the veterinarian and have it put down. If you see a real issue with it, enforce it.

In the same way don't post anime-pictures when the mod specifically asked not to. It's not really something that will slip by him.

Heh heh ya....

*beep boop boop* 911, there's a crazy man in my thread.

Primarch

Name and Rank: Sergeant Marcus King
Callsign: Caesar
Age: 37
Gender: Male
Current Faction: Kel-Morian, Dominion, Mercenary
Former Factions: Sons of Korhal

Combat Role: Vehicle Pilot
Skills: Marcus can perform repairs and modifications to his Viking and other common Terran vehicles. He's also shockingly good at chess despite seemingly never paying attention to the game. He puts this down to having natural, perfect situational awareness (which also partly explains his success as a Viking pilot).
Training: Marcus has completed all levels of simulation training for use of both the Thor & Odin, he was preparing to transfer to a Thor before being re-assigned.

Appearance:
Combat Suit/Uniform:
Uniform/Non-Combat Clothing:
Scars: None
Tattoos: None
Noticeable Marks: Just his dashing smile

Weaponry: In the event his Viking his compromised, Marcus has a Great War Pattern C-14 Rifle, one of the few designs that does not require a suit of CMC armour to use. Its stashed away behind his pilot seat for emergency use.
Vehicle: Advanced Viking
Marcus King is one of the finest Viking pilots there is, top 5 there is without question. So talented was he that he was involved in live field testing of a next generation Viking prototype. This Viking features expected "standard" upgrades, Phobos-Class Weapons System (and Ripwave missiles), Ultra Capacitors, Vanadium Plating & Regenerative Bio-Steel. The prototype is made special by several currently unique upgrades, this model is capable of greater speed and agility then other Vikings when in "Fighter mode," making it more effective as an air superiority fighter. The prototype is 15% larger, to accommodate the added systems and engines. It has also been equipped with a pair of heavy flamethrowers, one connected to the bottom of each gatling gun. These were implemented to allow the Viking to take on a new use in battle, neutralizing any cover but also serves to cause extreme punishment to anything that attempts to attack the Viking in close combat. Updated computers increase reliability of the computer targeting and improve response times.

Marcus has also applied several decals, including a pin-up on each arm and "The Walking Apocalypse" across its upper back.
Viking

Equipment: Marcus wears a standard Viking pilot suit and helm/vizor.

Birthplace: Korhal
Major Battles: Most major engagements of the Sons od Korhal & most offenses against the Zerg & Protess as a member of the Dominion.
Biography:
Marcus King never really expected to be a soldier, he had always been rather passive about things so long as they didn't affect him directly. Then the Confederacy obliterated Korhal. Well that was just about all Marcus could handle, it being his home world an all. When Mengsk was calling people to stand up and fight, Marcus got all caught up in making somebody pay. Not long later he was wearing armour, holding a gun and shooting the bad guys. Eventually, they won. The Sons of Korhal beat the bad guys and became the Terran Dominion. It sounded really fancy, and he liked it. Ole'Marcus King was even made Sergeant Marcus King for his efforts.

When the Dominion had a bit of piece and quite, he took an interest in what new bits and pieces the Dominion were developing, especially the A2 Armored Mechanical Hybrid, also known as the 'Viking.' Marcus started simulations to prepare individuals for when the original prototypes were developed and was later a test pilot, which eventually became a pilot. As such Marcus has been flying Viking's since they existed. Nobody can say they have more experience then him.

When Vikings were finally deployed to combat the Zerg and Raynor's Raiders and everything else the galaxy would throw at them, there was Marcus blasting them to pieces, providing covering fire as the Marines pressed forward or taking to the skies to clear out enemy bombers...and bomber like organisms.

When they started developing a new form of Viking, Sergeant Marcus was called in to take part in testing it. Sure enough it was a beautiful piece of machinery. Before it got its first llive action testing however, Marcus was caught by General Warfield performing an impersonation of him for the benefit of some other pilots that implied the General had all manner of relations with Zerg and Goats. The next day (surely entirely unrelated) he was informed he was being sent out to the backend of nowhere to test the prototype in a place where he would have the room to do so with little risk of it taking any damage. He's been on Rex since.

Other Notes: Marcus has a "Girls of Dominion Military" nude calendar hanging up in his cockpit. Its two years out of date but has by far the best content in his opinion.

That's a good point.  Fortunately I've already taken care of it.

Speaking of which, I'm starting the intro post now!

Aiden

I have a feeling that Clint met Marcus at one point in their military career, to the point of not liking the guy.

He being a rebel (his enemy) up until the destruction of Tarsonis, but does not dislike him enough to ever have a hige issue with them.

Clint is gonna speak with that diminishing (in the dominion) Southern drawl, with enough gravel from the gasses that seep into his suit.

Considering Marcus works on his own aircraft, he would see Clint around in the work bays.

Sounds like the colony's vehicle bay is where we'd be most likely to meet up :P

#99
Name and Titles: Khem-Khinren
Subspecies: Nerazim (Dark)
Current Faction: Zer'atai
Former Factions: Tribal
Age: 476
Gender: Male

Combat Role: Dark Templar

(placeholder for now until I find something better)
Clothing/Armor: Classic Protoss style heavy armor with attached Zerg bone plates and carapace. Sometimes he wraps himself up in cloth of natural coloration for camouflage or protection from the weather.
Scars: His body is virtually covered in a network of acid scars.
Noticeable Marks: Often marks himself with warpaint before a battle.

Weaponry: A strange artifact of Xel'Naga origin, this staff can be activated to extend a warp or psi-blade (apparently acording to the user) to instead make it into a spear. A feat of concentration can likewise extend the blade in a short ranged (about 30 feet) focused beam.
Vehicle: None
Equipment: Khem try to not get overly attached to anything other than his weapon and armor. "Anything else can be found anywhere else".

Birthplace: Shakuras
Major Battles: Fall of Aiur, Shakuras Civil War
Biography: Khem-Khinren very much appreciated the tribal life on Shakuras. Perhaps a bit too much. As Tassadar arrived to ask for help from the Nerazim he stood skeptical. So did many others, who feared that their involvement could usher in an integration of the Nerazim into the Khala. But in the end Zerathul's and Raszagal's words weighed heavier than their doubts. He joined the expedition to Aiur and witnessed its fall.

He fought at that time back to back with another Protoss of the High Templar, Zandarnis, as the Zerg rained down on their homeworld. While they didn't share ideologies, they fought like brothers none the less, like all Protoss gathered. But as they fled to Shakuras the friendship waned, although it didn't erupt into hostility like with many others. The civil war brought about a grim side of Khem, who after having endured one battle too many withdrew from the others and fled into the wastes.

He lived there alone for a long time, wrapped in his own thoughts and guilt. It was here that he found his trusty weapon, an old Xel'Naga artefact which he adopted in place of his scythe. But living for such a long time alone started to eat at his mind. When he started to hear a dark, beckoning voice in the Void, he began to doubt his own sanity and he hurried back towards civilization.

Once returned he found the to lost siblings reunited, Khalai and Nerazim under the Protectorate. To Khem it was a dream fulfilled, where Khalai and Nerazim lived together and respected each other, if only on the surface. But the dark voice would not dissipate and soon he heard from the other Dark Templar that they too heard its call. When the Xel'Naga tempel was discovered on what the Terrans now called Rex and the Hierarchy sent Zandarnis to investigate, the Nerazim were quick to recommend that Khem follow as a pathfinder and guard.

Of course the High Templar thought it only an excuse to send a Nerazim to represent in the mission, but that was only the tip of the iceberg. The Dark Templar were more interested in the strong resonance of the Dark Voice that rang as they found the Temple on Rex.

Other Notes: Unlike many of his brethren in the Zer'Atai, Khem is not too fond of taking risks but instead advice caution in any given situation. That such "caution" would exterminate a whole colony of Terrans to make observing a Xel'Naga Temple without risk doesn't deserve any distinction in his mind...
