Naiad stood no higher than an average person’s index finger. She had flowing blonde hair that always seemed to be caught within an errant breeze, even on a still and sultry day, with eyes the color of amethysts that continually sparkled.  She wore skimpy clothing, but enough to cover a tiny frame and keep hidden certain assets that sometimes were more of a hindrance.

She had been sent here, to this place known as Earth, on a mission for the salvation of all fairy-kind. She had been warned that it would be no easy task, but she believed she was up to the challenge. Too many people were beginning to dis-believe in the fae and have begun to question the very existence of those mythical creatures that had brought so many stories to life with adventure as well as help settle a young child down to sleep with pleasant dreams.

Naiad was determined to make sure that whomever Jaegel revealed to her as her “mission” would believe in not only fairies, but also in unicorns, and elves, and dragons and all creatures that can and have been imagined. If she failed, then all of her kind and others would simply fade away.

So as the two sat on the tree limb of the huge oak tree among so many others that were of the park, they spoke in low tones and pointed to various individuals, most of whom were believers, and those that weren’t had their own fairy assigned to them, while they waited for Naiad’s ‘person’ to show.

And before too much time had passed, Jaegel grabbed Naiad’s arm and pointed down the path to man who was making his way through the park. “There he is, Naiad!!! See him? That man right there!!” Jaegel said, shaking her arm so hard she thought it’d be pulled right out of her.

Naiad looked in the direction Jaegel was indicating and gasped loudly, “He’s mine? All mine? Do we get to keep them forever when the assignment’s over, Jaegel? He looks mean, I don’t know if I want him. This might take an awful long time to convince him. But, back to kee…”

“Hush, Naiad, and pay attention,” Jaegel said, cutting her off. Naiad folded her arms over her chest, and proceeded to tap her foot upon the tree’s limb showing her impatience and irritation at being interrupted, accompanied with “HRRMPH!”

“Awww…. Naiad, don’t be like that… You can do this. I know you can. And I’ll find out about whether or not you can keep him. But for now... have at it!!! And remember we’re all counting on you!!”

And with that, Jaegel disappeared, leaving Naiad alone, looking down at the man that was approaching.
“Harrumph,” She said again, bringing her arms behind her back and shuffling her feet, “He looks mean,” she said to the leaves that hung in silence. “And, what if… what if… what if he ignores me?” She said to the soft breeze, and widened her eyes as Jaegel answered her without being seen,

“You can make yourself known to him, Naiad… You can do this….”

Naiad sighed a bit heavily, a wee dramatic for the fae as she rolled her eyes, scuffed the limb of the tree and eyed the man askance, “Ok… I’ll let him know that I’m NOT messin!” Nodding her head, as she waited for the moment to leave the sanctity of the tree and take up a perch on his shoulder.

Aaron sighed to himself as he wandered towards the park, his hands in his jacket pockets as he gripped an unlit cigarette in his lips, his brown, cropped hair swaying slightly in the breeze caused by his slow meandering, the crunch of stones was the only other sound coming from him as he walked, his black high-tops shifting the loose gravel beneath his feet.

Upon entering the park he moved his hands from his pockets, slipping one into the back pocket of his Forest camouflage cargo pants, reaching for his lighter, his other unzipping the red System Of A Down! Jacket he almost always wore when out the house, lowering his head into the recesses of his clothing.

The spark from the lighter illuminated his cloth shrouded head as he lit up, lifting his head and moving his hand back to his back pocket, taking a deep breath as he neared the centre of the park, closing up his jacket and taking a long draw, he sighed again as he looked around at the other people, shrugged and carried on walking.

As he neared the Oak tree he stopped, looked at his watch, and moved on. Beneath the bough upon which Naiad waited, he stopped, dropped to one knee and proceeded to re-fasten the laces of his trainers, coughing slightly as he inhaled a copious amount of smoke.

Tiny hands fluttered before her face in an attempt to remove the wafting rise of smoke; though noble, a small amount permeated the fae in spite of the effort made. She coughed. Then coughed again, amethyst eyes glaring at the bent figure below her.

Sounds came out of her mouth, unfit to be repeated lest she receive a good and thorough chastising as she hooked an arm at the elbow, created a fist, and shook it at the body beneath the bough upon which she sat. However, jumping to her feet, small wings snapped open and a chin lifted somewhat arrogantly as she leaned forward and proceeded to take flight.

She was in no hurry to reach her destination, spiraling downward from the canopy of branches, some of which hung lower to the ground than others. She kept her eyes on the man, practicing her introduction,
"Hello! I'm Naiad and I'm a fairy!" She'd scowl and start over, drawing blonde colored brows together before smoothing them and beginning anew,

"Well fancy meeting you here! I'm Naiad and I'm a fairy! Wanna play? Or walk? Or..." Naiad shook her head and threw her hands up in the air, a gesture for giving up, or mayhap a plea for help from those she knew were watching. No help or advice came forward.

"Hi!" She said, drawing closer and closer to his shoulder, "I'm Naiad." With a bright smile and a nod of her head, Naiad believed she had her introduction down to the tee. However, her words when spoken, might be likened to the sound of a mosquito or gnat buzzing around his ear when she spoke, but she wasn't aware of this.

So as she prepared to land, so to speak, her arms spread out and away from her body, one leg she kept straight, while the other she bent at the knee, and she pointed her toes down. It worked! Settling herself with arms now before her, hands folded, though he appeared to be still bent doing something to his feet that looked to be covered with some ... "Oh no!!!" She exclaimed, both hands moving to her mouth as that opened to form an "O" in surprise, "He's got something wrong with his toes!" She said, hands coming away and moving to her waist as her gaze took to the skies.

"Silly willy," Jaegel said, "Humans wear different coverings on their feet! Nothing's wrong!"

"Oh," Naiad said, and leaned over for another look. Satisfied for the moment, she marched across shoulder and came within his ear and introduced herself,

"HI!" She said, standing on the very tips of her toes to be heard, "MY NAME IS NAIAD! PLEASED TO MEET YOU!" Lowering her body back to stand on her heels and wait for him to introduce himself to her.
