Here is an example of a tactic we could use. Say your fighting and blast a leg so bad the mech falls on its face. Why should you take more risk withdraw and move on to fight someone else while my Arty's finish it off. No leg it can't move at least enough to make my pounding it unlikely to be effective.

You can focus then on another threat that is one and leave the poor downed mech alone.

That would work once your a few hexes off and I can get a tight targeting on one area and our friendlies are clear.  ;D

See, but that's just silly. :D Disabling a mech like that and then withdrawing to call in an artillery barrage on it is unlikely to leave anything but scrap salvage, when we could just walk up and headshot it execution-style. :D

The Great Triangle

Although such things do depend a bit on who has the salvage rights.   ;D

Only a bit though. The sort of merc who's going to drop artillery strikes on his teammates' kills to deny them valuable salvage out of spite probably isn't the sort of mechwarrior who lasts long in a big, well-organized company - if only because eventually, all those other mercs that he's kill-stealing/salvage-wrecking will decide to come make him the salvage instead, and any really competent leader would have headed off that sort of situation before it went critical.

Jack Stryker

No kill stealing =P  Besides, we'll be stuck behind enemy lines without a way to get away.  We'll need all the salvage we can grab.

The Great Triangle

To be fair, I was referring to spiting an employer who denies salvage rights.  "We had to be sure!"

At any rate, artillery shells can be expensive.  No use wasting one on a dead horse =P

That reminds me of my favorite saying, "Close only counts in horseshoes, hand grenades, and thermonuclear weaponry."

At any rate, I think the battalion is filling out nicely.  The only unit without anyone playing in are B Company and Support Company 1.

MasterDireWolf

Aww damn.   I had only just found this thread, and none of the mechs I would want to use are in it.

I got into the BattleTech series proper with MechWarrior 2, Ghost Bears Legacy and Mercs.    After which I got Michael A Stackpole's Blood of Kerensky trilogy.   My personal favorites were the Timber Wolf/Mad Cat MkI and the Mauler.  As their tech isn't yet in existence I doubt I could take part much in this game.

On a side note: I did hear that the current holders of the BattleTech franchise were scrapping Dark Age out of existence and starting over.  Any truth to this?

FYI, I'm still in. Mom had surgery yesterday and I'm taking care of her (right after graveyard shift, yay), which doesnt leave me much time for character building. I should submit my profile some time this weekend though.
As of Feb 28th : Work is kicking my ass! I will post this weekend!!!

Technically, if you wanted to use a Timber Wolf, you could pilot one of the Inner Sphere mechs from which the Timber Wolf evolved; the Catapult and the Marauder.  The Catapult is a long range fire support mech, while the Marauder is a medium range mech that has most of the capabilities of the Timber Wolf aside from its missile racks.

The somewhat amsuingly named Awesome is an assault mech reasonably similar to the Mauler, but without the Star League tech.  I think the Mercenary group's Assault mech lance is full though.

And the GM is happy to let you modify vehicles and mechs. Hell with the modest changes I have an AWESOME scout ferret that flies at 19 Cruise and 29 flank speed short of a Aerospace Fighter I don't see anything that could challenge her in evasion capabilty and has all the extras for her work. And can even Medivac out people another reason for the speed if your happy being in armored bed pods that are outside the VTOL.

Anyway she is your friends and a terror for infantry units and APC's, fixed fortifications and their arty battery units plus can scout for their forces as they come in well and enemy troop movements. Plus if a mech has infantry attack it I can drop ordinance on you and clear them ...
(just kidding  XD)

So pick a mech like one you want and play with it.

TheGlyphstone

Do you at least have some ECM, or are you just counting on outrunning any LRMs the baddies decide to chuck your way?

As for the assault lance - I'm leading C company, and I already had an Awesome slotted in as one of the assault mechs for my 2nd lance...that'd be a good slot to fit in.

wildstar

i know I'm in. I got ny bio ready till have to figure how my Shadow hawk weapons are going to be.

ok got my bio ready here it is. pic still needed but I'll post that later.

Name: Joe Masterson
Age: 21
Rank: Captain (C company) (hope it's ok to be a captain? if this rank is open?)
Homeworld: Hesperus II
Description: short brown hair, green eyes, height at about 6 ft, normally wears a standard Steiner uniform slightly modified. as in a short sleved Lt gray shirt with white stripes on the sleves. a lt gray combat vest. combat pants and boots. has a gun holster belt that he carries his Cosmo Dragoon laser pistol. it also carries his extra packs for the laser.

History: Joe was once a Captain in the 4th Skye Rangers. Joe had dreamed of being a Mechwarrior defending his home and House Steiner from the Draconis Combine or any threat the harmed innocents. he had worked hard to become a Mechwarrior at 15 he had gone to one of the best academies of House Steiner. at 17 he made Luetnant. at 20 he made Captain. he fought bravely during raids and campaigns during the war of 3039 with House Kurita. earning glory for himself and his company that he was given command of. that is until one fateful day on the last day of the war Joe and his company was betrayed. during the final push on the (undisclosed planet. have to look to see what planets were taken in 3039 by House Steiner.) Joe's company was sent to hit the flank of the Kurita line with another company. the terrain was rocky and many large hills and a mountain stood before them and the flank. the battle at first seemed to go well but then the Kuritains counterattacked with a full battalion. the company that was suppose to accompany Joe was nowhere to be found and Joe realized he had walked right into a trap. falling back Joe set up a defense along the mountain so his command had some protection from the incomming fire they were getting. one by one his comrades fell. JOe repeatedly called for reinforcements. that was when he found out the company that was suppose to come had retreated. Joe cursed the commander of that company as he tried to hold his position. after 6 hours of hard fighting only Joe and one other mechwarrior. SGT. O'Çonner had survived. after the fight Joe resigned his commision. along with his friend O'Conner. heading to Galatea Joe and O'Conner met the commander of the Strikers. Joe liked them and asked to join. O'Çonner did too. Joe leads his command (called the Ghosts) Joe likes using terrain to his advantage. even weather. fog is good. Joe's Shadow hawk is coloered Lt Gray with white stripes and trim.

I don't TAG so can stay out of ideal firing range and using long range shots at her would waste ammo. That and I have extra armor on my VTOL just in case since ,um, I'm not stupid a stray missle or two could get lucky. If you read up the Ferret its main way to detect and locate are parachute dropped sensor units that she can use with her advanced electronics and computers to determine the enemy and their movements down to infantry level on foot. In fact she carries double of those. And line of sight still works its useful now just line up her corsshairs, hit a button to do a range using her current location as point and then fire the arty. For buildings that is likely how she would do it or other players in their mechs ...

Just Kidding  XD

D'aaaaaw, that would have been useful for us in D Company. Oh well, guess we'll just have to recon the ole' fashioned way.

C-Company's mine unfortunately - the GM's put us as the 'Anvil' company, designed to grind down into one side of the enemy and hold them there until the other companies can flank and encircle them - all heavies and assault 'mechs, the biggest and the meanest we've got to offer. A Shadow Hawk's a bit too light for that role, though one of the aforementioned Hammer or Striker companies would be perfect.

There's plenty of ranks and officer slots to fill though - if you want to be leading a company (3 4-mech lances plus attached support), you'd be a captain; if you just want to run a lance, Major would be more appropriate.

No one took the infantry I guess I handle them to.

hate to say it but the "Ghosts" tag is already in use with Echo Company, the hybrid company of light armor, PBI and fast Moving Medium, Heavy and Assault mechs.though could always try and make room in the company for your character if you like, the command Lance(6 mechs strong) has two medium mechs(modified Crabs) two heavy mechs(a Dragon and an Exterminator) and two assault mechs(a Victor and a Thug). the "Echo Ghosts" aren't your normal unit, deploying as often mount in battlemechs as on foot or in skimmers.

if interested Wild, PM and we can work something out, as long as Jack says ok that is :P

Yeah, IB's got E Company already.  And C Company is also already taken.  B Company and 1st Support Companies are open, B Company being the Hammer to C Company's Anvil, while 1st Support are made up of repair/refit/supply trucks with light escorts.

That's why it's better to pm me with the details of your character first.

CaptainErotica

I'm still in, I just need to finish up some mods I'm making to my Hunchback.

NotoriusBEN

can we get a list of who is playing who in what mech in which company? Im sure it would give everyone a good picture of the Regiment line up.
