BTW, should we assume standard gold (16,000gp)? And if we wanted to spend gold to purchase additional spells, how do we do that? Just pay the cost for a scroll?

Oh wow, this got a ton of interest while I was asleep.  Since there seems to be plenty of interest, I think I'll go more cleric-y.  Still an easy profession for a spoiled son, and still useful to a group.

Background

Dylan Silverheart is, or was, a gentleman prospector. He worked for years as a freelance agent for several large corporations in the mineral business. His specialty is to quickly get to a new claim and use whatever form of persuasion is necessary in order to secure exclusive rights to the metals, crystals or other wealth that have been churned up by a passing Worm. Dylan was known as an honorable and effective operative, though perhaps a bit too mercenary.

For years he ran a successful business, eventually becoming prosperous enough to allow him to engage a subordinate, a dwarf by the name of Regan Stonescar. Unfortunately Regan's amiable exterior housed an evil soul. After three years of successful partnership Regan betrayed Dylan, leaving him stranded near the site of an upcoming Worm eruption. Tens of thousands of gold worth of mining equipment were lost, along with the lives of over thirty miners, and Dylan was gravely injured. In the time that it took Dylan to return to the sky cities Regan had pinned the entire fiasco on his absent partner, utterly ruining his reputation.

These days an embittered Dylan is seeking to work his way back up the ladder by taking any job he can. One day he hopes to exact revenge on his dwarven ex-partner, who has risen through the corporate ranks into a very comfortable -- and safe -- position. He has lost a great deal of trust in his fellow man, almost to the point of paranoia, but tends to hide his true feelings with a ready sense of humor.

Dylan is a reasonably good shot, but his most potent weapon is his mind. He's used to wriggling his way out of seemingly impossible situations through the application of his wits, along with a well-stocked backpack of chemicals. Dylan is a self-proclaimed atheist. If there are gods, then they aren't worth paying much mind to.

Uh, you misunderstood.  You roll 4d6 and then keep three of the dice (i.e. drop the lowest die), so you still get a number ranging between 3 and 18, but trending towards the top end.

And yes, Myth-weavers or Plothook.net are both fine for character sheets.

@Ebb, Shadow: After considering for a bit, I'll allow playtest and ToB characters, with the caveat that if anything proves to be way out of line or completely broken, I get access to the nerf bat.  (I haven't heard much about playtest classes yet, but I've heard that White Raven Tactics can be a bit strong.)

I think tonight sometime I'll toss up a character thread for everyone to post their characters to, so it's a bit more organized.

Great. You're certainly free to nerf as required. I also expect that, depending on how long this game goes, there will be updates from Paizo along the way and you can decide whether or not to apply them. In following the playtest forums nobody so far has seemed to find anything overpowered with the Investigator in particular, though many have taken issue with the Poison Use and Sneak Attack as perhaps not fitting the concept of the class.

Not entirely sure what to go with, those stats are barely better than the standard elite array (which already makes playing anything but a caster hard).... Probably just a standard diamond mind/iron heart setup.
