My submission...Hancock!

41% on RT, and I would say it's deserved, but this movie was on the edge of superhero greatness at a time when people weren't exactly as on board with them. It had a great first half, but suffered on the back end, which robbed it of a lot of the potential it had, but I still defend it any chance I get. If only to dream about what could have been.

Yeah, when it comes to movies that had a great lead up and then absolutely let you down Hancock has to be pretty high up there. I'm okay with it being under 50% since it was less than 50% of a good movie.

If nothing else it proved Scott Glen was the perfect choice for Stick in the Daredevil series.
Considering a permanent retirement from Elliquiy, but you can find me on Blue Moon (under the same username).

The Scorpion King.
Especially since it's 38% audience score, so it's definitely unpopular, but I have a soft spot for it. It's one of those movies I think of as perfect because it's exactly what it sets out to be and isn't too long. Much better films have left me wanting more, but this is just enough when I need 90 minutes of background noise.

Hidalgo. Under 50 on RT, and a film I imagine most people think of as "meh" but I always thought it was a fun adventure flick.

I liked that one too! I mean the sequels are all awful but this one helped the Rock really become a big star. Ironic how Brendan Fraser started his decline after The Mummy Returns and yet from a mere cameo in that one, the Rock ascended to unimagined levels of stardom.

Oh boy. The sequels. My library system had all of them, and one night I had a "movie marathon" and I could barely make it through them, even while having my attention divided on creative projects.

And then, what, Netflix had one too? Not the worst thing I've seen on there, but...
It's too bad there aren't more good movies in that genre. It wouldn't take much. You could make a decent fantasy film on a LARPer's budget as long as it was an actual good story.

Sofia Coppoola got so much flak for her playing Mary in The Godfather III (and for being her father's daughter), but I find her perfect, very believable, engaging and with perfect pitch for who this fairly innocent young girl is, as she gets to discover some of the family's dark secrets. She has just the right understanding of southern Italian culture, the chemistry with Andy Garcia is great, and though she was actually a last-minute replacement, she's much better for the part than the other actresses who had been signed or who wanted it: Julia Roberts, Winona Ryder and especially Madonna (?!).

I agree with you on Hancock, it was a movie that was edging back into the comic verse after the first few comic book movies got pushed back into the shadows. They all exist on my shelves...

My submission...
The Room

Why? Because I laugh at it. It’s soooo stupid, so poorly made, and the acting is a perfect what not to do even for amateur porn. That and I like trying to flesh out the stories or the side characters or what exactly was happening at the bank.

The Room doesn't count because it falls into that so-bad-it's-good-category.
If you're searching the lines for a point, well you've probably missed it; there was never anything there in the first place.

Husk (2011) is a horror movie I thought was pretty well-done, much better than the Children of the Corn movies, and while it has no critic scores it only has a 26% audience score so I thought I'd give it an honorable mention. I like where even when the threat is supernatural, it still has to follow certain 'rules' and so when the survivors figure those rules out, it becomes interesting to see how they can try to make their escape.

I'll throw in Avengers Grimm (16% audience score) and Zoombies (15%), two Asylum films that, while not objectively good films, were leaps and bounds better than their usual substandard fare.

I was originally going to do Dead Heat, but as that came out in 1988 and nothing Vincent Price can be legally called a bad movie (even if it could possibly be), I can't use it.

Reign of Fire. I like it. I mean, it was a novel concept on post-apocalyptic fiction. It's solution is just a little too convenient, but fun.

I liked the dragon design in it, I just wish it could have been more.

The only thing I truly loved about Reign of Fire was how they reenacted Empire Strikes Back for the kids lol! I smile like an idiot seeing the kids' reactions

As for a personal nugget of fondness...Maximum Overdrive!

Based on a work by Stephen King, with cameo I might add! Emiliooooooo Estevez playing a good guy trying to do right by the people he's grouped together with. I usually rewatch this whenever I see it available, because I just love the freaking story. Machines go nuts and kill people. Trucks force humans to service them as they become their new mechanical overlords. AC/DC, because why the fuck not have AC/DC music in it! I always enjoy it.

17% on tomatometer, but 50% audience review lol, so there's some people like me out there!

I saw it in the theater when it first came out. Definitely could have been more than it was. Would have expected all surviving societies to be WAY more militaristic like the Americans were.

You have to applaud the courage to show a kid getting run over by a steamroller. Also a vending machine shooting a guy to death with canned sodas...classic.

It only got 40%? I freakin' love this movie! And I never watched the cartoon, so that's kind of impressive.

I kind of agree, although I think the timeline doesn't quite fit correctly (not that the latest few movies that are spaced 10 years apart and yet no one's aged at all are really following it much more closely anyway). Would have been much nicer if they tied in Lady Deathstrike and the rest of Weapon X's shady stuff better, and also set up an actual Weapon X movie where they could have Omega Red.

The Amityville Horror (2005) with 23% on RT. A lot of people say it has tone problems, that Ryan Reynolds is a bad fit for a horror movie, and that it was cliched besides...but man, do I love this movie. Ryan Reynolds plays very well at the outsider "stepdad" role, both with his sarcastic quips that make his character likeable and nervously charming, and then going straight for it in the more sinister moments. The beard helps. Melissa George is wonderful and charismatic as the protagonist halfway through the film(it switches from Reynolds because the evil basement ghosts take him over in the latter half) and the three kids are very sympathetic, even the jerky eldest one. That firewood chopping scene is...something else.

Yeah yeah, we've heard this particular story before and we've seen these horror movie tricks before but they come together kind of perfect here. And I'm not a stickler for historical accuracy; if I wanted that I woulda read the book(rimshot). Definitely one I rewatch on occasion and feel has been rated unfairly.

I remember being deeply disturbed by this horror film.

Great movie. Very "brown note" and reminds me a lot of the Signal (2007) which coincidentally also stars Anessa Ramsey.

OT: Saving Silverman (2001) || RT: 18%
I love the shit out of this movie. It's juvenile, it's stupid, it's kinda obnoxious but it never fails to make me smile. Steve Zahn and Jack Black make a zany duo trying to reclaim their friend played by Jason Biggs. Amanda Peet plays well as the psycho-controlling girlfriend and there's this very outlandish subplot of alternative love interest, Sandy, who decides to become a nun.

Aberrant

My submission: Jennifer's Body. 44% critics rating, 34% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes and I genuinely love this movie. It's a campy horror movie that's aware it's campy and revels in it. It did start off as an ironic love but by this point, it's fully unironic. I watch it several times a year, especially around Halloween, and the soundtrack's pretty good too. Even the in-universe, specifically written for the movie song "Through the Trees."

Actively looking for RP partners.

HannibalBarca

Men At Work, with Charlie Sheen and Emilio Estevez as garbage men in Redondo Beach, California.  It's rated 28%/45% on Rotten Tomatoes, but it's a guilty pleasure for me.

I love this movie. I guess it got rated bad when it was popular to hate Megan Fox and it was a showpiece for her. Shame.
