Since someone before me mentioned a General, I might go with a Cannoness. Will work on a CS, hopefully during the weekend.

Alright. So again, a question about scale. I notice your character is leading the entirety of the dread host, which is the largest shield host. That's alot of custodians. What's the scale we're shooting for here?

Space marine companies or entire chapters?

Entire Chapters are certainly viable. Off hand I think only the Space Wolves sent their full force to the 13th Black Crusade, the other Space Marine contributions were in various numbers of companies.
So you can take on a Chapter Master & bring the entire Chapter, or take on the role of the Captain chosen to lead several companies.

I might just ask the canon Chapter Masters remain canon. Well certainly for the larger/more prominent Chapters like the above mentioned Space Wolves (maybe especially the Space Wolves, my experience with OC Space Wolf Chapter Masters has been....something special). I know we've leaned away from the idea of basing the RP around a specific OC Chapter, but if someone wants to do an OC Chapter I have no issue with it. Just maybe not "secret first founding Chapter."

Currently working on a Fabricator-Locum of Ryza, Domina sort. Gunna go with an Ark Mechanicus and a small fleet of assorted goons coming along. I plan on leaving the Legio Titanicus alone incase someone wants to grab up that stuff. If not, Arks are big enough to house legions.

Sounds like a plan!

i guess i'm just starting to feel like we need to go huge or get left behind. Admech war cohorts with titan support, several hundred custodes, entire SM chapters. I was thinking of an inquisitor with an entire regiment of scions at their back, and now i'm not sure if i'd be even keeping pace

Well, theoretically, any Inquisitor can requisition the service of nearly any imperial at a whim. Though it requires political pull to boss Astartes around, if they're chapters on the more rebellious end of things like Dark Angels and Space Wolves. On the other hand, Minotaurs are very eager to help out Inquisitors from what I can remember.

But, unlike others, the strength of the Inquisition is not in the numbers they can field.

Technically. Realistically Inquisitors can't boss around Space Marines. A Chapter Master may choose to to assist an Inquisitor but the vast, vast majority of Inquisitors need to be the height of cautious even investigating a Chapter for suspected heresy. Nevermind outright obligating them service. Not counting dedicated wings of the Inquisition like the Deathwatch or Grey Knights.

Well Greyfax & her scions had a pivotal role in the 13th Black Crusade. If you want to play an Inquisitor with a regiment of Scions go for it. Could have been investigating something that might be related to Abaddon's target this time (which we'll invent later) and so in possession of valuable intel related to the war effort?

inquisitors actually don't have power over a lot of people. They are expressly not allowed to boss around space marines. Chapter masters are firmly outside of anyone's authority but the high lords while Deathwatch and GK are notable exceptions, and ya a few chapters choose to work closely with the ordos but it's their choice. But SM can, and often do tell inquisitors to get fucked. Plus the admech is out of their reach among a handful of other groups. The only group in the Imperium that has true carte blanche authority over anyone and everything is the custodes, they just rarely choose to exercise it.

as for figuring out why the inquisitor is there is not at all what my stated problem was. It's simply that Even as powerful as my original idea is, it really doesn't seem enough unless I dial it way up to 11. I guess I was just thinking the rp would be a little more grounded and less crazy apocalypse size character and army lists.

Yeah, the scale seems rather more than I was first thinking about as well. I'm not sure I've played armies this size under my control even with the old Epic 40k game :)

Might go with a Titan Legion then - The Legio Metalica, the Iron Skulls. They've been around since the Unification Wars

History

  • “Born” on Ryza from an artificial womb, joining the ranks of the Mechanicus and taking her first augmetics at a young age, the path of a priest began early.
  • Her first journey off Ryza was as junior Domina, learning to command the science of war in practical, real applications, serving under a Magos Dominus. Exemplary results in war and mastery over the machine saw her ranks rising relatively quickly through the dogmatic and politically hostile ranks of the Mechanicus.
  • Atzina’s rank rose rapidly, once a lost Ark Mechanicus was found, and the ancient machine spirit was roused, it’s body repaired, and set upon the stars once again. Granted the rank of Fabricator-Locum and command of the vessel.
Atzina’s Warhost was ‘nearby’ when the call to thwart the Black Crusade, and thus volunteered the forces under their command.

I wouldn't be too concerned with all the troops under your command. This being a 'collaborative narrative' more so than 'cooperative wargame' we can apply as much or as little attention to any given battle as we like. That can take the form of anything from playing out the fine details of troop movements to just getting a report saying "heavy causalities at X, Regiment Y has been completely obliterated."

Player Ollum
Character: Silas Malden
Faction: Inquisition/Tempestus scions
Rank: Ordo Hereticus Inquisitor

Warlord Trait: Psychic Mastery – The power of the warp bows to the indomitable will of this warlord

Wargear:
  • Refractor field
  • Custom fitted Carapace armour
  • Artificer Bolt pistol
  • Blade of the Ordo Hereticus - Many Inquisitors have commissioned or acquired masterwork power blades. No two such weapons are ever exactly alike, but all are potent martial tools.

Army/Assets:

  • The Inquisition has enourmous breadth of authority to requisition and compel resources and military assets as they see fit. As well as a stockpile of assets aquired by the ordo over the millenia:
  • Vengeance Class Grand Cruiser
  • 6 flachion class escorts
  • 10,000 tempestus scions (One entire regiment, 110th Iotan Centaurs)
  • scores of Taurox primes
  • scores of Chimera APCs
  • 180~Ogryn auxilia
  • Valkyrie & Skytalon dropships
  • Vulture & vendetta gunships
  • 12 Primaris & wyrdvane psykers

Personality:

  • Unquestionable wisdom: The secrets of the inquisition are many and terrible. The Ordo Hereticus in particular know much about the strengths and weaknesses of chaos, and their members are never obligated to explain themselves or the sources of this knowledge to anyone.
  • Puritan: This inquisitor is a staunch puritan in the eyes of his peers. A title he wears proudly despite it sometimes being spoken as an insult. The ends may justify the means, but there is never an excuse for consorting with daemons and copying the enemy's profane rituals.
  • Formidable resolve: The unshakeable will of this warlord is enough to steel the hearts of Humanity’s warriors. Bolstering the convictions of those around him

History:

  • Silas was raised in a schola whose name he doesn't bother to remember. When his psychic powers began to manifest he was handed over to the black fleet for training or sacrifice on Terra. But during that fell selection process was instead marked by the inquisition as a potential acolyte.
  • Silas survived that grueling physical and psychic training regime and was eventually apprenticed to an inquisitor Mordecai Thraxx for several decades.
  • Once elevated to a full fledged inquisitor, Silas joins the ranks of the Ordo Hereticus. Like his former master he firmly believes the greatest threat to the Imperium is the 'Enemy Within', and his talents and effort are best spent combating the traitor, the rebel and the heretic.
  • After 173 years of Service to the Emperor Silas now sails forth to combat this new black crusade. Bringing with him an entire regiment of the Ordo Tempestus he had recalled for just this purpose. The scions have become his preferred means of applying both rapid overwhelming force or precise surgical strikes

Excellent. We'll give the others that have expressed interest a little more time, then get the ball rolling. If anyone else gets involved afterwards we should be able to work them in easily enough.

GloomCookie

I had initially expressed interest but with the holidays and such I need to back out. Sorry.

I am still interested, but I caught a nasty cold and it is hard to focus (especially while also trying to study for midterms). I hope during the week to be able to make the CS.

On an unrelated note I might swap my Custodes for a Black Templar Marshall.
