Who is your character?
Lady Lilianne
Still undecided if going with an eladrin or a human with the fey touched feat but either way I plan to go with the noble background. Haven't decided either about what class to go, bard or artificer so consider my character a sort of dilettante so far.

Hi! Love the character. Assuming we're both selected for the roleplay, there seem to be a couple of opportunities for connections here - especially if you, well, wanted to explore Lilianne suffering some of the same indignities as Cliara will.

First, after a brief communication with snowdrop I altered Erkhardt's background to have had him been Cliara's tutor at swordsmanship, so, he'd have been teaching her - and bemoaning her lack of discipline - at the same time Lilianne was (and perhaps he blames Lilianne for this).

Second, and more intensely, Lilianne could be the same character I've identified in Erkhardt's backstory as Arianwen Dacre. That is, Erkhardt's family came off the hard losers Arianwen's in the period immediately prior to King Leo's conquest, and they were all killed. Erkhardt signed up with King Leo, and slew Arianwen's father in battle. I'm imagining the half-elf/feytouched human groups more closely linked to that part of their ancestry are matrilineal, so it's actually Arianwen's mother Lady Arwen who is head of the Dacre family, and bent the knee to King Leo in order to survive. That would create a lot of tension both ways, for Lilianne on the basis that Erkhardt killed her father, and for Erkhardt that Lilianne's family killed the entirety of his. King Leo's conquest was 20 years ago, so this wouldn't really put any limits on Lilanne's age, given Arwen could've been pregnant with her when she bent the knee (though of course Lilianne could be older too).

I wrote a lot, but it's just a thought, no hard feelings if you'd prefer not to - I do note that even if we made this connection, since it is a group game, Erkhardt wouldn't be possessive about Lilianne.

Waldham

Hello, Laughing Hyena & Kathyan

I am also interested about your campaign, snowfrop.

I will have to give it some thought myself for a character.

Hello Waldham. Seems like we have a who's who's for this game.  Looking forward to it assuming I make the cut.

Zaer Darkwail

Yeah, lots of applicants (some with possible connections), and not an easy way to pick just four party members.

snowdrop, is it okay that my char Baerdur knew king Leo while he was conquered and was part of his army (as a scout, albeit plan taking outlander background indicate more his origin and he having woodsman skills). Also that he gave king Leo the idea to marry a woman who can control the land (and sort give hint where to find her based on rumors/tales he heard as a child). Also some point my char had (in)famous tavern called Horny Goat, but it got burned down thanks to his distiller blowing up (as he was experimenting with new brew/spirits).

Totally, I like that, it sounds fun! It would probably mean that he'd have some sort of pre-existing knowledge as to what exactly the Queen's (and Cliara's) deal is, and I would need to think about what exactly that knowledge is; but it doesn't bad at all to me to have someone in the party who can help the rest understand what's happening and what they need to do to the poor princess.

Speaking of religion, I used search fu to find my notes on the forementioned (my homebrewed) goddess of tieflings. Lemme know if it clicks with your world and grand designs.

She looks great to me, very interesting! I love it when tieflings don't need to be necessarily evil by birthright, and "show the world they are wrong about you" is a really interesting hook for a character.

snowdrop

As a sidenote, I'm loving everyone's concepts so far! Yes, this seems to be getting a lot of interest, which is both humbling and flattering, but also kind of terrifying... I'm really not looking forward to having to disappoint most of you, it's going to make me feel like a monster for sure.

That said, it's lovely to think about potential connections between characters and I don't want to discourage it by any means, but do keep in mind that I have no idea who's actually going to be in the final party yet, so... just as a word of warning I suppose, don't get too attached to any potential connections just yet!

And for anyone who's considering making a concept, have no fear, I won't be making any kinds of decisions whatsoever until Monday 8th, so there's still plenty of time :-)

Vreski

Okey dokeys, I will wait to start making connections then.

For my god I am thinking Mielikki, goddess of forests. My alignment is going to be True Neutral.

Also I usually lean towards being more subby, but I'm planning on playing Victoria as a dom. It'll be a lot of fun though if another character wants to try and dom her though.

Laughing Hyena

Snowdrop, would you care for more detailed gods and goddesses to fill your world up? Also I assume there are laws and punishment in the kingdom. What might they be?

Look Pa', I'm makin' a Wizard

Who is your character? - Delona Myth'ala, the Half-Elven Wizard

Where are they from? - Delona hails from Eboria's capitol. After the land's calming, there was a slow revolution going on underneath King Leo and Queen Eriphise's very nose: The Revolution of the Learned Man. With natural magics, Elemental storms, and Monstrosity attacks on the decline, people could spend less time praying to deities and less time cowering behind the skirts of druids and the fae, and with that came people who sought knowledge! Delona's father was one such man. Once upon a time, he was a hedge-wizard who had found himself assisting the conquering King Leo on his journey. His help was rewarded, and once the world was won King Leo made a Noble out of the Hedge Wizard. Now 'Lord' Myth'ala, he went to work helping establishing himself and his arcane arts; drawing in others with similar talents and becoming one of the early figures of importance behind the first College of Magical Studies...A Wizard School, if you will. Delona hails from this place of learning, and as such places great weight on her own shoulders to discover the secrets and mysteries behind the world.

What are they like? - Delona is an ambitious woman, and an intensely curious individual. Her hunger for knowledge is second only to her desire to be seen as the best at what she does; the result of a spoilt child who excelled at the few tests her father put upon her. Slightly bratty, somewhat demanding, and sometimes intensely condescending, Delona would probably grate on her fellows if not for her unique talents as a Wizard.

Do they have friends, family, relatives, connections? - Delona's main connections would be the College of Magical Studies in the Capitol, but her father's position as one of the College's council would mean she has likely rubbed shoulders with the nobility of that place. It is even possible that Delona could have schooled with the Twin-Princes, or at least rubbed shoulders with them or their sibling at the balls and festivities of the upper class. Her position is an exemplar of the arcane means she may have been called upon to assist when things were left strange or 'fucky'.

Why has King Leo decided to trust them enough to hire you for his elite group of adventurers? - Delona is one of the few Arcane practitioners who isn't so engrained in the College of Magical Studies as to be unable to adventure, and certainly amongst the more powerful examples. Her noble status is also likely a good reason for him to think highly of her, as well as her ambitious-but-dependable nature. Finally, her father's service in the Unification of Eboria would give credence to the idea of trusting her.

How long have you been with the group? - Delona is likely a newer member of the group; owing to her being the replacement of one of the original members that helped the King in his conquest of the land.

What is your preconception of Princess Cliara? -  Princess Cliara is an object of extreme mystery to Delona, and that makes her fascinating. Both the unusual powers of her mother, which make the woman's prophecy of Cliara's importance of extreme interest, and the important effect her father had on the world would be fascinating things to study on their own; but the Princess' own aura...Her mystique...Her promise... All of these things make Cliara something that Delona wants to know more about. In addition, Delona is as ambitious as they come, and a part of her desires to try and ensnare the Princess and seduce her, for increased status and the freedom that Lower-Royalty is offered.

What are your ons/offs? What are your character’s ons/offs? -  My own personal Ons/Offs are fairly open-ended, with the only hard 'No's being Toiletplay, Scat, and Gore. Delona's focus will be on Power-Plays. Her own personal brand of Domination will be focused on the act of trying to twist and twirl the Princess into becoming more willing, more debased, and more eager to please. Delona wants to win the Princess, and to do that she needs more than just to violate her holes; she needs to violate her heart and soul as well. Exhibitionism, group sex, and a little bit of DubCon and Embarrassment play are also very in her wheelhouse. She would disapprove of anything that leaves any lasting marks, and would be outright against any of the above Offs, as well as being against anything that would diminish her powers or intellect. The only Corruption she might be made curious of is the sort that would empower the Princess.

> Level 6 Wizard, with no intent to drop any levels into a Multiclass.

> Looking at either Graviturgy (One of the CR Choices from the Guide to Wildemount), Enchantment, or Bladesinger if it would be the group's favoured choice.

> +++Int, ++Dex, ++Con, Wis left passable, -Cha and –Str

> Main purchases would be [In Order, and knowing I won't make the end}: Spell Components (Identify, possibly a Tasha's Summoning Spell), Any Costs of Spellbook Inclusions I need to make, a Bag of Holding, possibly a Spare Spellbook, and whatever cooky items I can think of when I put my head down to think about this, because I recall the Sane Magical Priceguide being a mean sonnova gun for Spellcasters.

> Would be the quintessential Wizard Utility Spellcaster, with a few big AoE options, a few buffs, and enough flex spots left to make my potential choice of Subclass spicy.

Sorry to drop in out of nowhere like a bad Wrestling meme. I saw the premise and was inspired to write. Spent far too much time being on Discord writing recently, so thought I'd go back to my roots and hit E again.

I'd be interested in learning if their is any particular unusual-ness to Noble culture and the Capital. Are there many cities? How is population gathered, and how big is Eboria? Is it a small Country? A Continent? More, perhaps?

Also the state of the 'Classes', so to speak. Are Druids and Rangers in decline due to less Elemental fuckery? How prevalent are Clerics, and High level spellcasters in general?

Who is your character?
Jokull(Pronounced Yok-Ool), of Villirheim - Fey Wanderer Ranger(possibly with some druidy or paladiny stuff?)

Where are they from?
If one were to ask where Villrheim could be found, they'd likely be met with confusion. Few have even heard of Villrheim, much less know how to get there. Indeed, even amongst the most knowledgeable of cartographers, it is a matter of some debate whether Villrheim is a place in the physical sense at all, or merely an  answer given by wanderers. Certainly it doesn't feature on any mortal map. Perhaps, in truth it is merely another name for the realm more commonly known as the feywild, or even a location within that fabled realm? In any case, asking will do you no good. If you're qualified to know... you'll know.

What are they like? Do they have friends, family, relatives, connections?
Much like the Queen, Jokull's background is somewhat mysterious to most - Where they come from isn't common knowledge, and isn't shared easily. However, it is readily apparent that he definitely has strong connections to the King himself, and a clear interest in the princess's coming of age. Strangely, he barely seems to have aged since his last visit... some eighteen years ago, when the princess was born. In perfect time to witness the queen's prophecy, in fact.

Why has King Leo decided to trust them enough to hire you for his elite group of adventurers? How long have you been with the group?

Not long at all. A matter of days, in fact.

As you can probably tell, I'm painting the picture of a somewhat aloof and mysterious race here, as that feels on par with Snowdrop's flavouring of the queen. As the story progresses he'll no doubt open up and reveal more - the specifics of which will need to be worked out between snowdrop and myself. But I imagine him to be of the same race as the queen, perhaps from a weaker bloodline, or a mortal with a little of that race's blood in his lineage. In any case, he's known to the Royal family, and has been entrusted with overseeing the Princess's taming/training on behalf of their race.

What is your preconception of Princess Cliara?

Jokull's had only a little time to form an opinion of the princess, but running off certainly hasn't done her any favours. The brat clearly needs a firm hand, and her upcoming ordeal is no doubt going to be quite the shock to her... Which can only be a good thing; it'll make breaking her in that much more enjoyable. It's for her own good, after all, and that of the kingdom. Willing or not, she'll come to accept her destiny eventually. She might even learn to enjoy it.

As someone who takes his duty very seriously, Jokull intends to take his time enjoying her to the fullest as well. It's not very often you get such a tasty young princess to abuse. It wouldn't be a leap to say he's been waiting for this day for a long time...

What are your ons/offs? What are your character’s ons/offs?

Voyerism is obviously going to be a big one this game. I see Jokull as someone who's going to stand back more and encourage others to vent their desires on the poor princess, to turn her into a slutty plaything. He'll be the guy who makes sure she's bound securely before bed, or properly humiliated at every opportunity, rather than the guy actively venting his lust on her. Indeed, if she wants his cock, she'll have to get very good at begging. Fortunately she'll have plenty of opportunity to practice^^

I really want to focus on the bondage and humiliation aspects. I'm sure we can magic up some vibrating stones and all sorts to make her life a little more entertaining. Jokull will be there to ensure she never gets a moment's respite. More of a facilitator than an aggressor if that makes sense.

Who is your character? Princess Winona Ursyn.
Race: Shifter
Class: Psi Warrior Fighter
Futa - 32 years old - 6'0 230lbs

Where are they from? Winona hails from the northern province (and former kingdom) of Hailheim, and is the matriarch of the ruling clan Ursyn. Winona was just a cub when King Leo's conquest turned north. Hearing of the invading king's campaigns in the south, her father, Garl Ursyn, chief of one of the larger tribes of shifters, sought to unify the north under one banner to face him. In just a few short years he managed, through both war and diplomacy, to unite not only the shifter clans, but tribes and communities of many different races and cultures, forging what was at the time the largest allied force in the region's history. And so when King Leo marched north he was met not by a disorganized spattering of unaffiliated tribes, but an organized force proclaiming itself a new kingdom: Hailheim.

As the "princess" of this new nation, and inheritor of Clan Ursyn, Winona was eager to prove herself, and saw the approaching war as her opportunity. At just 13 years of age Winona joined the frontlines, unbeknownst to her father, and quickly gained a reputation for her ferocity and unwavering tenacity in battle. Word soon spread through the garrisons of "The Red Cub", a young girl who tore through the enemy ranks like a rabid animal, hair and skin dyed in blood. When her father finally realized this girl was his own daughter he was struck by equal parts pride and fear. Pride that his daughter had grown to be such a fierce warrior, and fear at the thought of losing her amidst the chaos of war.

It was partly for this reason that Garl agreed to treaty with King Leo. Though he was confident his forces would ultimately win out, Leo knew the men and time he would lose being tied up in the north, especially as winter approached, would be too great to justify the effort. And so a treaty was forged between King Leo and Chief Garl, with Hailheim swearing sovereignty to Eboria. And to secure their alliance the two kings arranged a marriage between Winona and one of King Leo's sons, Lucian.

What are they like?
Winona is a strong and prideful woman. As the royal consort of Prince Lucian, as well as the head of her own clan, she holds considerable influence and responsibility. However despite being highly intelligent and a perfectly capable leader, Winona tends to neglect her duties, both as a chieftess and wife, unless there is dire need of her. For a woman who was raised in the dangers of the tundra and blossomed into adulthood on the battlefield, decades of peace have eaten away at her like a nagging itch. She abhors inaction, and so often departs on excursions across the kingdom, chasing after bandits and hunting down the last remnants of the fearsome creatures that once haunted their world. Also due to her pride, and a shifter's more primal nature in regards to social hierarchy, Winona holds something of a grudge against the royal family, having been forced to accept her father's decision to ally with them despite never personally surrendering or acknowledging their strength. As far as she's concerned they were never defeated in battle, and so she has never truly submitted to their authority, to the king or to her husband. While she plays along for political purposes, she doesn't really accept Leo as her king, nor Lucian as a proper alpha male (something he's sadly never been good at asserting).

Do they have friends, family, relatives, connections?
Her father passed away about 5 years ago, leaving behind herself and her younger siblings, 2 brothers and 3 sisters. While she is technically the chieftess of Hailheim, and her subjects see her as the second highest authority to the King, she often leads the day to day ruling of the province to her eldest younger brother Frey. She is married to Prince Lucian, and so is the daughter in law of the King and sister in law to Princess Cliara. Together they have two children, their son Lucas and their daughter Leona. While she loves her children dearly, they were sired from Lucian's seed, not her own, and as such she doesn't consider them to be heirs of her bloodline.

Why has King Leo decided to trust them enough to hire you for his elite group of adventurers? How long have you been with the group?
Even before becoming his daughter in law, King Leo had acknowledged Winona's strength, having witnessed it first hand on the battlefield. She often volunteered herself to his service, taking on whatever problems arose across the kingdom. Though he understood it was mostly just a ploy to stave off boredom and get away from her husband, he couldn't refute her effectiveness, especially with matters tied so closely to the royal family where only the most trusted could be relied on.

What is your preconception of Princess Cliara?
While technically Cliara's older sister by marriage, Winona has never really seen or treated her as such. She has no animosity towards the young princess, and even feels a small amount of doting affection for her, but their upbringings were simply too different for them to ever find common ground and grow close. She's too soft, too pampered, and too weak. Back in the day she would push the queen to let her train her, try to toughen her up, but she was strongly against it. It was only after learning the nature of the girl's powers that she understood why. Cliara was not meant to be strong, or to be tough, her destiny was to be a martyr of sorts, someone to be used and abused for the betterment of all. For a strong woman like Winona she finds Cliara's situation to be deeply pitiable. Despite that she can't deny that the freedom to do anything she pleases to the delicate girl stokes all kinds of primal urges in her, and her mind races with the possibilities, not just to vent her frustrations with the royal family, but how she might use the girl to further her own ends.

What are your ons/offs? What are your character’s ons/offs?
As part of her marriage vows Winona has sworn to lie with no other man but her husband. However the same restriction does not apply to women, a loophole she indulges in quite frequently. Due to her primal nature Winona is very traditionally dominant, preferring to exert an almost bestial dominance over her lovers. She's tends to be rough and controlling, and while she is a skilled lover there is a sort of primal inelegance to how she has sex, very much closer to "mating" than "making love". Still when the mood hits her she can be more teasing and methodical, though more often than not she'd rather fuck someone silly than meticulously edge them on.

Player Ons: Oral of all kinds (including rimming), Anal, group, gang-bang, rough, outdoor, light bondage (no pain emphasis), pet-play, food play (particularly using cum as/on food), cum play, large cocks, unsafe sex, non-con, curvy/well endowed characters, thighs, moderate corruption/degradation.

Offs: heavy bondage, excessively mean doms (unless part of a larger character-arc), orgasm denial, my character being forced to drink their own cum, feet, blood, guro, scat

Who is your character?
Nuneyd Aalstrom, a human sorcerer -- and, admittedly, a name that is most likely unknown to most of the younger generations of Eboria.

Where are they from?
Nuneyd is native to the lands of Eboria, born some 19 years before the unification under "great king Leo." Nuneyd's (noble) family hailed from one of the first countries that king Leo forcefully unified with his own kingdom, from a region just to the north of the original kingdom, though it now lays just south of the middle point of the unified kingdom of Eboria. These lands, and the people living on it, were a simple kind -- there was merely a single town ruled over by Nuneyd's family, and several hamlets and villages that paid their taxes to the town. The rest of the lands were forests, grazing grounds for the livestock, and dirt roads that only rarely had been paved over in a rather amateur fashion. It was clear that the Aalstrom lineage was not a particularly ambitious one, and they were keen to keep their lands and not much more. For this reason, when king Leo came knocking, and after measuring their gains and losses were they to resist him, the Aalstrom's threw in their lot with king Leo in order to safeguard their position in the new kingdom as nobility. Not long after much of the rich forests in the region were clearcut to begin an era of increased prosperity and industry, or at least so they claimed. It is from this region that Nuneyd hails, though far be it from him to claim so. The question seems rather moot to him, after all that has happened.

What are they like?
There is not much normal about the life of a sorcerer -- unlike other casters, they did not choose their lot, but rather were born with it. This was true for Nuneyd also -- curse his luck -- as he found himself tormented from a young age by magic coursing through his veins uncontrollably. It was a source of much headache for his family, who sought to expulse the magic from him with little luck. In a family of mundane people, being the one that stood out hurt Nuneyd's prospects greatly. Doubly so when, as he got older, it was realized that he wasn't just a sorcerer of small calibre, but actually a sorcerer of some significance, unbridled and untapped potential radiating from his body like a natural heat. This "gift" rapidly turned into a curse -- and Nuneyd came to hate magic in any form as a result, even his own.

Freshly turned 17, he was enlisted by his family to the army of king Leo, providing both a fine way to get rid of this liability that called himself family, and providing a valuable asset to the king -- while at the same time proving just how loyal the Aalstrom lineage would be to the king. After all, they gave him their own son. A second-born, but a son never the less. The symbolism would not be lost on king Leo, though it was undeniable that at this point in time the Aalstrom's had already become rather forgettable, their territory a nice bonus to the king, and nothing to balk at to be sure, but not of any specific significance or importance. Nuneyd, on the other hand, soon became rather significant to the army. His lack of training and skill in controlling his powers did not seem to stop him from rapidly becoming a force to be reckoned with within the kings' armies, and for that the king seemed thankful -- to Nuneyd, not his family -- doubly so during the conquests of the northernmost kingdoms, which were subjectively the hardest ones given that most of the kings army by then had tired of the fighting and wished to return home, whether that be to wives, family, or simply a stable lifestyle on a farm.

Nuneyd, too, felt the heavy burden of war, and deserted. A mistake, by any measure, but a mistake he'd repeat again in a heartbeat. Being indentured to serve in an army was far from a free existence, and after all those years being stuck in a town with an uptight, mundane and judgemental family, he did not feel much need to relive those moments, this time in service to a king who seemed to have a neverending thirst for conquest. Indeed, in the camps of those who saw king Leo as a conqueror and a despot, and those who saw king Leo as a protector of peace, Nuneyd staunchly found himself in the former camp.

But, while Nuneyd was plenty strong by then to stand his own, he wasn't particularly sneaky, nor was he learned about the world. He was promptly caught and brought to justice -- an execution was ordered by none other than king Leo, though in the days leading up to it the order was rescinded after a brief exchange by letter between the Aalstrom patriarch and the king. It seemed that for all their faults, the Aalstrom's were not so keen on having the stain of desertion and dishonor on their banner, and they convinced the king to abstain from execution lest they wouldbe forced to defend their honor by declaring civil war.

A fruitless war, had it ever come to that, but to have a small army knocking on the capital doors while fighting a war in the north was not of any interest to king Leo, who agreed to abstain from the execution and instead force Nuneyd to fight further, only to imprison him after his service. Talk about gratefulness. In the time between that fateful imprisonment and, well, now, the Aalstrom's disinherited Nuneyd and severed ties with him. He remains imprisoned to this day -- a deserter and common criminal.

To say he is bitter and angry would be an understatement.

Do they have friends, family, relatives, connections?
Yes, plenty; most notably the noble family of Aalstrom, who despite his disinheritance are still keen on protecting their good name and honor -- small though it may be. Far be it from Nuneyd to deny their offers of help when they might arise, though much more likely is that the family prefers to ignore him and his miserable existence. More important to Nuneyd and his lengthy stay in the royal hotel with bars for window, Nuneyd has made some criminal connections in prison. Not enough to matter in the grand scheme of things -- but, connections all the same. His long term stay in prison has prevented him from making much meaningful connections to the outside world (understandably so), and so in that regard he could be seen as a bit of an "outsider" to the internal politics of the realm. Much to his amusement, really, for he has no desire to partake to begin with. Screw the king, his fey-whore wife, and screw their daughter, too.

Why has King Leo decided to trust them enough to hire you for his elite group of adventurers? How long have you been with the group?
To say that king Leo has decided to trust Nuneyd would be inaccurate. More accurately, king Leo holds Nuneyd in a position of a proverbial stranglehold. He can, in essence, force Nuneyd to do anything -- and right now he has need of magic. Lots of it. And, perhaps for the sake of the awakening of the poor princess, raw, unbridled magical power. Uncontrolled, one might call it. In this sense Nuneyd is a true asset to the group -- he is powerful, after all, and power tends to help when trying to escort valuable items from one place to the other. On the other hand, Nuneyd is a deserter, and a criminal. How well that would reflect on him in terms of how the others see him remains to be determined. Chances are, Nuneyd will need to be watched closely by more loyal agents of the king to ensure he doesn't just take off. Since he's been imprisoned, it seems obvious to all that he has not been with the group for very long at all -- most might not even know him, since he wasn't important enough for his imprisonment to be anything spectacular or special. He's just another guy, with a surname that sounds vaguely familiar to those who are involved in the court lives of nobility.

What is your preconception of Princess Cliara?
He believes he hates the princess, though this is as much projection on his part as it is his stereotypical manner of thinking about fellow mages. To him, she represents her parents %u2014 a king who forced him to fight and a magical fey of sorts that is undoubtedly the cause of much suffering in terms of magic. His isolation and lack of intimacy with the royal family and the princess specifically means he doesn%u2019t know much about her, which means he is so far deeply convinced she is someone to be hated.

Fortune has it, however, that he and the princess share an uncanny similarity. Through no fault of their own they were selected for one reason or another to bear magic %u2014 and this causes him great distress. The princess, in essence, is not much different from him as far as magic is concerned. And in order to appease another, she must now suffer for it; her choice is taken away from her in this matter. Nunyed feels for her greatly should this ever come to bear; he longs for freedom and as such is quite taken aback by the fact that the king and queen are forcing their daughter through such a harrowing, chaotic, almost borderline evil ritual for the sake of power.

By the end if the mission, Nunyed will pity the princess more than he hates her, and he will hate her parents, king and queen, more than any evil god.

Who is your character?

Sir Beldon Ironsword. (aka Belle) Knight of the Realm. Human Paladin. Decoy Princess.

When rumors surfaced that the enemies of the Kingdom desired to kidnap the Princess and turn her powers against the land,  King Leo and wife came up with a plan to distract and confuse their enemies. He asked his most loyal knights for a volunteer to undertake a dangerous quest in order to protect the Princess. Sir Beldon immediately stood forward and offered his sword in loyalty. Taking the young knight to a private chamber, they shared their plan with the unfortunate volunteer. Queen Eriphise began to conjure even as their plan was explained. In order to keep the Princess safe, they required a 'decoy'. Someone who looked like the Princess, someone who would be treated as the Princess. Someone who would be mistaken for the Princess if their enemies did act.

The Queens magic swirled around the hapless knight. To his horror, the knoight felt is muscles fade and replace with softness. His hard armor was replace with the softest of silks and lace. The young muscular man was gone. In is place was the form of the sweet, beautiful princess. His... her new mission; to protect the princess and take her place if enemies threatened her capture.

Where are they from?

Sir Beldon (or Belle as she is now called) was not born a knight. He is one of the rare few that earned his place with action and loyalty. His family owns a small farm north of the Capital. His father, three brothers and older sister still work on the farm.

Relation with the group.

The group know who 'Belle' was and what is her mission. Some of them were a little resentful over the young knights rise to glory. Others were not enamored by his ideal of honor. Some are amused to see the former knight in this role. They have promised to treat 'Belle" exactly the same as the real Princess in order to maintain her 'disguise'. 'She' will quickly learn her place as a distraction, especially when the Princess is occupied with the others.

What is your preconception of Princess Cliara?

Having spend the last few years living in the palace and defending the royal family, Sir Beldon regards the Princess almost as if she were a little sister. He has seen her blossom into a beautiful young woman. If he was of higher stature, he would consider courting her. He tend to always try to see the best in people and doesn't see her as spoiled or cold. Just a young woman who is nervous about her own destiny and scared about what the future may hold.

I can see becoming a confidante of the Princess and/or a toy for the rest of the party.

If any paladins want a god or goddess for their characters I can try and provide. Of course our DM can interject at any time

Snowdrop, would you care for more detailed gods and goddesses to fill your world up? Also I assume there are laws and punishment in the kingdom. What might they be?

If you have deities you've designed which you'd like to share, by all means! I quite deliberately don't want to lock any down as major official gods just yet before the game starts, so that players who wish to build their characters around a particular deity are free to do so (and then we can make their deity a major one if appropriate).

Laws are enforced everywhere in the kingdom, and every settlement can be expected to field a city guard or town watch of some size and importance; small villages may have a few part-time guards who take shifts in between their farm work, while major cities will have something akin to a professional police force. Typical punishments for crimes in the Capital region range from fines, pillory and flogging for minor crimes, to hard labor (for crimes against the people) or imprisonment in the castle dungeon (for crimes against the nobility), to exile or death for crimes comparable to treason or murder. A trial must always be held and the accused must be presented an opportunity to defend themselves; the trials are usually swift and judgments passed quickly and efficiently. In large cities there will be several appointed Lord-Judges, in small towns the mayor or sheriff will often double up in this role.

The King expects these laws to be followed everywhere in his land; however, many of the recently joined realms are given wide liberties to adjust them according to their own culture and history. As such, far-away lands may have different punishments for different crimes, and while the king insists a trial must always be held, in some lands this might mean that the accused must prove their innocence by winning a duel or completing an ordeal of some description.

The government structure is essentially feudal rule -- the King only controls directly the lands immediately close to the Capital, other realms are called Prefectures, and their Prefects (who generally used to be the old king/duke/chief/bossman of the area) can rule their own land quite autonomously; as long as they pay taxes onwards to the King and abide by his laws.

Since you mention crimes specific to the capital region, it may be a far too detailed question to ask but.. does this mean that there are different punishments based on the region (i.e. local customs)? Probably wouldn't come into play at all during the RP since that's far far far too detailed (and how often will we get in trouble at all, legally?).

And perhaps a more relevant question.. what is the stance on sex crimes? I'm thinking that uhh, domming the princess herself in broad daylight and other things that might normally be considered "things that are maybe not so good" could come up in a legal sense if we're accused of perhaps defiling the princess. Or is everyone aware of the crazy quest that the group would embark on?

Laughing Hyena

Thank you Snowdrop for the go ahead and also answering my inquiries on crime and punishment. Anyway here is one such god perhaps suitable to be shown thriving in the kingdom.

Vaathsol - Lawful Neutral, Greater God
Domains: Light, Order, War
Titles: "The Conquering Sun", "The Purging Light", "The Bane of Evil"

Origins: "If the wicked seek war, then I shall give them what they want!" Once the sun god was in fact a goddess. A compassionate goddess that soothed the wounds of the ill and nurtured the land so it might thrive. However those with wicked hearts took advantage of her followers who lacked the strength to stop them. They broke through the temples, bringing unspeakable horrors to those in their warpath. In her grief the sun could only watch as the darkness closed around her light. An eclipse would follow for a weeks time.

However, upon that ultimate triumph, evil would rue their victory. For this goddess had a brother whom walked amongst mortals in exile. In a tranquil and ruthless fury he took up the mantle of his sister and went to war. No quarter shall be given, no mercy spared. Soon the sun returned with a furious brilliance heralding the beginning of an endless war. He sought knights and warriors and waged a crusade of revenge seeking to snuff out all whom took the light from the world.

Dogma: "My Light shall bring Strength" "My Strength shall bring War" "My War shall bring Victory" "My Victory brings Peace" "My Peace brings Light." Those whom follow the creed of the Conquering Sun are incredibly passionate in their crusades. Even their Priests and Priestesses now have taken up the mantle of warfare for they know that the mercies of the wicked are none. They respond in kind, making examples out of those whom worship evil deities or are of evil birthrights. Victory over evil must from any cost and there is no price too high. There is no line the Order of the Burning Light will not cross in order to continue their crusade or purge the taint of evil from an area even at the cost of innocent lives. In one of the more infamous acts of the Order, the Knights decended upon the coastal town of Pearl due to an epidemic of a rotting disease that turned the living into undead. It resisted magical means of remedying the problem. Thus, rather than risk the disease spreading, they burned the entire town to ashes in order to preserve the rest of the coastal towns.

Worshippers: "Peace through Power!" Vaathsol's followers have tremendous conviction to the cause. All weakness is burned out of a hopeful acolyte and their minds and bodies are trained for the crusade. Soon as they come of age, the Order's followers become either Priests or Paladins and become an agent for the Order. Worshippers of the Burning Light never are evil nor unlawful. Thus their common alignment is Lawful Neutral. Their creed is the only thing that matters for them Paladins of Vaathsol, take this line of thinking to heart and must be Lawful Neutral in alignment. They can take up the Oath of Conquest or Devotion.

The Holy Symbol of Vaathsol is a Steel Sword inlaid in a Golden Circle. The Holy Weapon of Vaathsol is a Longsword.

Also the state of the 'Classes', so to speak. Are Druids and Rangers in decline due to less Elemental fuckery? How prevalent are Clerics, and High level spellcasters in general?

Welcome! :-)

Eboria as a whole would be the size of a small continent or a very large modern country; some thousand miles across, half a Europe or so. Close to the capital you'd have relatively densely populated areas, a few dozen cities generally governed by a single high-ranking noble (who would be a direct vassal to King Leo) with farmlands, lakes and forests in between, but around this capital area you'd have all kinds of culturally different realms now subjugated by the King. These would generally be less densely populated and there could be several hundred miles of wilderness with only one major road connecting the capital to these lands, and often even the one road would still be under construction.

First- and second-level magic is relatively common, with most villages having at least one soothsayer or wise-woman able to cast simple spells, and all major temples should be expected to field a 3rd-level cleric or three; but someone able to cast third-level spells would already be thought of as an incredibly powerful magician widely known in their area, and fourth-level magic or beyond will cause awe and admiration. People are definitely aware that magic exists and consider its use a relatively mundane affair, but high-level magic is the stuff of only few heroes (or villains).

I'd think that "traditional" druids and rangers, as in nature magic users, might actually have gotten a bit of a windfall with the retreat of wild elemental magic. The magic present in the land is in a way easier to understand and access now, and I'd think a lot of magically adept people would be learning how to harness nature magic now that it's less likely to literally explode in your face in a blaze of elemental energy! At the same time, there might be a number of Horizon Walker rangers who suddenly find themselves with less meaning in the world now that there's less otherwordly magic to defend against. Change is difficult!

Who is your character?

Melanthe, a half-elf fey-sworn warlock and the queen's lady-in-waiting.

Appearance

Where are they from?

One of the tree-folk enclaves closer to the edge of the Emerald Sea.

What are they like?

Melanthe is a child of two worlds, marrying covetous, risk-seeking nature of the human nations with tree-folk's autonomy, freedom from rigid society's constraints. Not to say that she's not perfectly amicable, caring and fair, but unlike many of her harmony-minded kin, she feels that the satisfaction of fulfilling her whims and desires is worth all the trouble it brings and she always yearns for more. It is this outlook that led her to striking a pact with a fey power: it is something that's usually considered a heavy burden taken in exchange for urgently needed power, and yet for her the journey itself is the reward already, and the gains she's made along the way - a pleasant bonus. Although, the sort of service demanded of her has factored into this as well - Melanthe was already a beautiful and sensual young woman, so a commandment to immerse herself in lust fully was met with open arms.

Do they have friends, family, relatives, connections?

Her clan lives on back at the Emerald Sea, and Melanthe keeps in touch, somewhat. They can't always relate to each other, but the relationship is cordial. Here at the capital her service to the queen takes priority over everything else, beyond which she maintains a wide circle of passing friends and associates.

Why has King Leo decided to trust them enough to hire you for his elite group of adventurers? How long have you been with the group?

Her Majesty recommended Melanthe for the role a little over two years ago. The queen's backing served as a proof of the warlock's integrity, so once her ability was tested in the field, she was inducted into the group.

What is your preconception of Princess Cliara?

Melanthe desires her. The princess is like a fragnant delicacy placed in front of a ravenously hungry man, the impulse to eat her up, mark her, stain her and make her show all kinds of delightful expressions is almost irresistible.

What are your ons/offs? What are your character’s ons/offs?

Would you want me to do any City-building for the Capitol, or should I leave that in your hands?

Rune

Although I submitted a paladin. He is a paladin by deed and code and not by religion. He was chosen to be a paladin, not because of any devotion to a god or religion, but because he has been virtuous and honorable. (and as such, might be slightly at odds with some within the group.)

I wouldn't know that, would I? Depends on what you all decide to do... :-)

But yes, that's exactly the point -- if your travels happen to take you to the outskirts of the kingdom, you may very well end up in places with very different legal customs and different punishments for different crimes. It may or may not become relevant, who knows!

QuoteAnd perhaps a more relevant question.. what is the stance on sex crimes? Rape is of course a very serious crime in most civilized areas of the realm, and subject to the harsher end of the punishment scale. Prostitution is legal and brothels quite common, but the more civilized (and the more high-end) neighborhood you find yourselves in, the more likely you're going to find yourselves heavily questioned if you commit acts of debauchery in broad daylight. (Nobility likes to keep their orgies behind closed doors, after all!)

As to "is everyone aware"... well, you'll find out :-) But a lot of what you asked is intended to be part of the game, and part of the challenge -- in some areas, it might be prudent to put some clothes on the princess and/or hide her identity... or just convince the locals everything is fine, I suppose!

If there's anything you think would be important related to your character, go for it! What you had for the College of Magic in your background for example is perfect! But on most of the nitty-gritty details in a broader sense, I think I'd rather wait and see which kinds of characters we actually end up having in the party... it's a bit of an awkward phase in the preparations, when I can't promise anyone if they'll actually even be in or not just yet >.<
