The Premise

Shining City
In a distant land of fantasy all manner of humanoids and monsters make their home. The lands are vast and wealthy with magic and wonder, but there is never enough for everyone. Thus, since the ancient times the lands have been split into various tiny kingdoms.

The Shining City stands as a literal beacon of hope to all those good and just. By the efforts of brave heroes and wise rulers it has flourished unconquered throughout uncertain times and prevailed against the malignant efforts of its rival kingdom to undo it. Peace has lasted for a few decades already, but recently the present king grew worried of what is going on at the neighbors’. While getting smashed with his old friend from adventuring years the king went and granted his old pal with full authority and funding to establish a clandestine agency to keep an eye on the rival kingdom - Monstertown.

Monstertown
This friend could not understand jokes. Right there and then he swore to do everything in his power to see that the king’s order was carried out and promptly cast a spell to erase the king’s immediate memories so that not even the ruler himself would know of the existence of this patriotic secret agency. The old friend cast aside his former identity as a hero and disappeared into the shadows where he assumed the identity of the mysterious ‘Director’. With only his wits, a big bag of gold and the king’s official seal he set out on a mission to recruit.

The Director handpicked promising youths who were ready to give their body and soul to a cause and tested them until only a handful of the brightest remained. Through a series of rigorous training montages he honed their unique abilities and traits, turning them into perfect spies, assassins, tricksters and various odd job specialists who might come in handy when infiltrating the Monster Kingdom.

With the merry band of to be spies ready they all donned their disguises and set out to journey into the bowels of the Monster Kingdom and establish a base.

Game start: You arrive in the dead of night with a few clues to follow for finding a good base in a strange city that you’ve only heard stories about. There's a little bit of planning before the Director will assign the player characters with various recon missions.

Little more about the setting

This is a very open high fantasy setting and I don’t intend to hammer out any more than the necessary details before the actual game start. I'll gladly leave much of individual races, cultures, magical traditions and religions for the players to hammer out as they make their characters.

The Shining City is basically a city of good honest folk of all pretty and nice fantasy races. The royal family are humans. There is probably some kind of paladin order, a church that serves all the good Gods and a magical academy.

Monstertown is where most of the game will be at. It is a big bustling city with buildings of widely varying size and inhabitants just as colorful. The city is run by powerful monsters - vampires, dragons, giants, krakens and all manner of nasties. In appearance the monsters vary from attractive humanoids to outright scary and grotesque. Humanoid races are often considered commodity or lower class citizens and slavery is a big thing in Monstertown. Despite the creatures being big and bad they’re not necessarily evil per say and most of the citizens are just regular folk who probably live in Monstertown because they might be hunted elsewhere. Monstertown is the most powerful kingdom in all lands, but due to its complex internal politics it often fails to make any decisive moves as a single entity.

Theme

The idea is to bounce between tongue in cheek seriously detailed spy scenes and wacky sexy fantasy.

I'll aim to keep a somewhat cheesy humorous theme going, but I will probably get attached enough to the setting that I’ll start building some deeper darker plots that you can try to discover while the Director keeps sending you on increasingly stranger missions without ever quite telling everything about them. Your characters will end up facing all kinds of traps and schemes in my attempt to combine all the cliche spy game tropes with high fantasy.

Characters

You'll be agents of this spy organization. No evil characters. You can be any race you can come up with yourself, but you need to make it pass my inspection. Your character can be a magician, possess innate powers of the divine or whatever fantastical magic you may come up with, but they will not be almighty. In fact, you can be as bad a spy as you like. In either case the idea is that as spies you need to avoid running into many monsters as they could easily subdue you.

Since they joined this agency your characters are probably pretty patriotic, or at least you became dedicated to the Director during the year plus period of time that you trained under him. That is to say, you can’t start as a mole. You may however be a member of some more humanoid monster race that happily lived in the Shining City and joined this new spy squad.

Smut

What are spy games without sexy peril and ‘interrogation’? Well, now we have monsters and possibly tentacles to toss into the mix. Many times smut might be an integral part of your character advancing their mission. Specific kinks are negotiable from GM side, and you may of course arrange whatever you wish with fellow players. Your character may be of any orientation and gender.

Posting

I like people who write details. I can tentatively promise one update per scene per week and expect similar activity from your end, but I might sometimes be able to pop out more than one post a day.

Much of the time this game will have the player characters splitting into small teams and solo missions. They will all occur ‘flexibly parallel’ so that it doesn’t much matter if individual scenes and missions progress at different speeds. We will use tags to keep things organized and to make sure nobody has to accidentally read something they wouldn’t want to.

Character Sheet

Name: Your character's names, aliases and titles
Sex:
Orientation:
Description: What does your character look like, feel like, act like. Describe how much you want to.
Strengths: Describe your characters abilities, skills, powers, strengths and such. There is no hard limit per say, but really strong abilities might need some drawbacks such as amp time, preparation time, cooldown or whatever interesting you can come up with.
Weaknesses: Your character's flaws. Try to come up with at least few big ones.
Story: Doesn't have to be a rigid history, it can be a single defining scene or just about anything you like, just describe your character's story a little more so that you, me and everyone else will have a bit better idea of who they are. You can involve the Director in this scene, just make him as ambiguous as possible.
Likes: Character ons and other likes
Dislikes: Character offs and other likes (Everyone probably understands by now to also check player O/o)
Ideas for the character: If you already have cool ideas for what kinds of scenes and developments you'd like for the character you can type them here.

Interest, at least. I'll need sleep and to be not-tired to come up with a concept, though.

BlueEyedBard

Hi Sain, I'm interested in your concept here. The only thing is, not only am I not familiar with the FAE system but I have never played with a system at all. I've always wanted to and I think I could learn how it works, but I wouldn't want anyone feeling like they have to hold my hand through the whole thing.

Looks like it could be a fun game though!

Glad to see interest already. Don't worry about not knowing the system Blue. It is very narratively focused and light so you should be able to pick it up quickly from the guide I'll make.

Well count me interested then!

Quite interested! I have some ideas forming, but nothing quite concrete yet.

Sain

Cool. A few more and I'll finish the system writeup and make character sheets.

Definitly interested!

i'll give it some more thought over the weekend on what exactly I want to make.

mannik

Put me down as a maybe.

I have to fix my computer first, but once all that is taken care of I'll see about getting a character concept written.

Sain

Okay. I wrote down my system and put up character sheet. Feel free to also throw in unfinished ideas. I'll probably write a sheet for Director tomorrow (it's getting late).

e. Coming up with aspects can be tricky. You can elaborate the abbreviated versions more if you feel like it might be easily misunderstood.

Looking over the rules now.

How combat capable should our characters be? I kind of have an idea of a thief who might be getting a chance to get out of jail by working alongside the director and acting as a spy. He might be good in a scrap, but I imagine even then he'd be outclassed by the bigger, badder monsters.

JoanieSappho

Also, is extremely convincing crossdressing master of disguise a good fit? Since you know how I like the traps, Sain.  :P

Saric

Will work up a sheet in the next few days. Defiantly of interest! ;D

I was pointed out some silly things in the rules. If you see blatantly wonky typos or stuff that looks very uncertain please point it out. The text was written quite late. I also added another line for you to fill in the character sheet.

Well your description of the character limits your combat power more than anything. Rolls only occur when they make sense from narrative perspective. You can definitely play a non combat character though. After all, this is a spy game. Combat is probably usually the last thing you would want to happen on some really delicate mission.

Oh traps are awesome :-) The idea sounds good.

Right, as spies I figure combat isn't exactly the first, second, or third choice of what to do! but, it just made sense for the character at the time. And even then it's not his primary focus.

Just gotta decide on whether he's human or something like an inumimi - kinda been wanting to play those recently. But the general idea is playing a thief/'treasure hunter' of sorts who had got caught stealing from nobility. He was skilled enough to basically be given the choice of stay in prison or work with the agency and chose the latter. He's quite dedicated to the agency now and isn't a betrayer or anything... But he might have some old thievery habits that he enjoys. And he tends to act without thinking of a plan first.

That sound like a valid character concept? Figured that the mostly reformed thief bit seemed like a solid concept but I wanted to run it by you before I made the character.

Sain

You could definitely be combat expert too. It's best if everyone has slightly different specialty. Go with whatever you would have most fun writing without having to worry of needing to have specific abilities or skills.

Thieving and other mischief probably hasn't been weeded out of the agents. Rather the Director might even encourage it :P Your base concept sounds like it could work. You can go any race you like. While the king of Shining City is a human they probably aren't an overwhelming majority of the population.

My sheet is 80% done. Just need to find a good image for him and then write up a story for him tomorrow, then I'll be posting it up.

Sain

Nifty :-)

I had an idea about how to handle expanding the lore. We'll have a thread where the characters can IC add small snippets and writings of their discoveries and encounters that they wish to submit for the Director and other characters' inspection. I expect hilariously misinformed and misleading 'reports'.

Also, wondering if people would prefer the director to be male or female?

"Or", Sain?  :P
Although, if inbetween isn't an option, my vote's for female.

I'll keep it as either to make sure it works for everyone, but your desire for futa encounters is noted :-)

*snip*

When describing fudge dice you say a 1 or 2 is a +1, in your example however you count them as a -1. It could be a bit confusing if you haven't played Fate before. :P

Second this! Also the female Director. >:)

Edit: Also where did you want Character Sheets? Is there a thread I missed or do we PM them to you or what?

Thanks, I rectified the mistake. I've actually been thinking of switching to 2d6 or 2d4 to get a wider spread and make it easier to understand.

Just post your character ideas and sheets here.

Name: Kelmara Seedstealer
Sex: Futanari
Orientation: Horny
Description: This sultry Succubus is a former prostitute who was recruited by the Director, she now puts her charm and sex appeal to good use protecting the kingdom that's given her such a good time... and aiding the Director that she so dearly want's to 'get to know better'. Handlebar horns, a husky purring voice, curvy hips and breasts, and a large cock all help her wheedle what she wants out of her prey... even if what she wants is a belly full. Pregnancy's typically last between 1 and 3 months depending on the other parent. Races with swifter pregnancy's (like Goblins) might only last a few weeks.
Aspects: Spying Shapeshifting Streetwalking Succubi, "I never turn down an 'invitation'. ;)", "Man or woman, nobody can resist my charms... and anybody I've charmed has no secrets from me.", Well versed in demonic and succubi magic of illusion, lust, confusion, and misdirection.
Approaches:
Careful - -1
Clever - +1
Flashy - +2
Forceful - +1
Quick - +1
Sneaky - +0
Stunts:

  • Because I am a Massive Flirt, I get a +2 when I Flirt Flashily I can create advantages when I’m in conversation with someone.
  • Because I am Unnaturally Kinky, once per mission I can escape bonds or seduce an NPC.
Story: Kelmara is one of the many Succubi and Incubi from the Shining City. Because of their demonic heritage they were generally treated like sluts and sex toys by the city's more 'good aligned' inhabitants, however since they like being treated that way they mistook this speciesism as being welcomed with open arms and are therefor fiercely loyal to the City. Over the years this loyalty has gained them the grudging respect of the masses, though they still retain the sexual reputation they so enjoy.

When the Director formed the Agency they knew that sometimes a wink and a laugh could get you in places no cloak of invisibility could pierce and that some secrets were only whispered in sleep. As such they found and recruited the most charming, successful, and loyal of the Succubi into their organization. As an apprentice, learning more of her innate Succubi abilities and magics, to said Succubi Kelmara ended up getting recruited as well. Her decision to join wasn't hurt at all by her attraction to the Director themself.

Likes: Sex, More Sex, Group Sex, Men, Women, Both, Nether.
Dislikes: Scat, Vore, 'Watersports', Gore, Violence.
Ideas for the character: These are just seeded throughout the character sheet, especially in the Aspects and Story. Really looking forward to her endlessly hopeful advances on the Director! ;D

Use links for NSFW pictures on the recruitment forums please :P They are visible to public.

I'm probably going to handle creating advantages and such a bit more loosely than regular FAE. More like, if your roll goal was to do something then it creates a narrative aspect that stays how long it makes sense for it to stay. You can just change it to "when I flirt flashily". They would be invoked much like normal aspects rather than passive bonuses.

Avoid using 'and' in the aspects. They're to be concise ideas rather than lists of positive features :P The first and last aspects are a bit general as well. Could you explain them in more detail. A little bit about how the demonic magic works and so forth.

Scene doesn't really apply as well to forum. You can change that to 'mission' for now. The bond escaping might be a bit strong, but it's okay for now I think. There might just sometimes be bindings too secure to wiggle out of.

Otherwise looks quite okay :-)

Important poll: Hmm... if it's going to be mostly players I know and some others I might just drop system altogether and go with abilities and weaknesses. Do you folks think that would be preferable?
