What made you choose your screen name?

Hi everyone! :D I saw that there was a topic about what made people choose their current avatars, and I thought it would be fun to begin a thread about what made us choose our particular screen names. :-) Does it have a particular significance? Is it a reflection of you or your characters? Have you used it before, and if so, for how long? Basically, share anything you like about your screen name (providing you remember to keep it PG-13 here). ;D

I'll start! :-) I chose Songbird for my screen name for many reasons. First, I love watching and feeding birds, as well as listening to their songs. I've always had a soft spot for birds, and a find the symbolic differences between a wild bird and a caged bird to be fascinating. Few things make me happier than catching sight of a bird I have never before seen in person.

Second, I love music and love to sing, and nearly all of my characters reflect this. Most of my characters love to sing, and my favorite character class in Dungeons & Dragons is Bard. :-)

Third, "Songbird" is the name of a character I've been developing for some time, but have yet to use. She is an innocent and beautiful girl with angelic wings who has lived most of her life within a giant birdcage, jealously kept away from the outside world by a being she only knows as "Master." She has never seen his face, and only glimpses his hands when he requires her magic. Her voice has the power to heal wounds and reverse the effects of aging, and the Master comes to where she is hidden whenever he needs healing or has begun to age. She is very curious about the outside world, and when she is at last freed by an adventurer, she accompanies him. Unfortunately her extreme innocence and kindness often gets them into trouble, and her Master is determined to get her back. Just what she is,why she has a magical voice, and the true identity of her Master is a mystery.

Songbird is a fairly new screen name for me, as I've only used it on one other forum. However, I think it suits me perfectly, and I have no plans of changing it. :-)

Caeli

I abused Behind The Name. :-)

I wanted a name that reflected a part of my personality, but was also 'romantic' and 'innocent', also 'quiet'. I wanted something that sounded more like a name, and less like an internet handle.

I'm a romantic and a dreamer, and I've also always had a fascination for skies, stars, and the heavens and celestial beings. Eventually, with these thoughts in mind, I went hunting around on this etymology site, and came up with my name for Elliquiy.

Caeli, derived from Caelestis
Gender: Masculine
Usage: Late Roman
Meaning & History: Late Latin name which meant "of the sky, heavenly".
Variant: Caelestinus
Other Languages: Celestine (English), Céleste, Célestin (French), Celeste, Celestino (Italian), Celestyn (Polish), Celestino (Portuguese), Celestino (Spanish)

Aisling
Gender: Feminine
Usage: Irish
Pronounced: ASH-ling
Meaning & History: Means "dream" or "vision" in Irish Gaelic. This name was created in the 20th century.
Variants: Ashling, Aislin, Aislinn

So loosely, my username might loosely mean "heavenly dreamer" ? Yes, I know. Full of romantic, fluffy cheese. ;D

I think we've actually had an iteration of this topic come up multiple times...

* Caeli does a bit of searching.

Aha, here are two of them. One created by Ziggy Speldust, probably back around the time Elliquiy started coming into existence. And this was the thread I remembered post in previously, started by Haibane.

Wow, that really is a beautiful meaning. :D Thank you so much for sharing your process! ;D I love studying names and why people choose them. :-)

I don't think it's a problem that you created this thread, especially since the others had probably dropped far, far off the first page. :-)

I love BtN too - use it all the time for characters and name research.

That's good. I should have looked first, but I'm glad this one won't be too redundant. :-)

Me too! :D I'm always checking it for updates and to search for names by their meanings. I've found so many lovely names which I had never heard of before. :-)

Machete

firescorpion121 comes from my mistake in thinking I'm a Scorpio due to there being thirteen constellations in the zodiac combined with the sum of my six-digit birth date.

Machete, on the other hand, comes from the film and character, which come from the knife.

Koren

Mine is quite simple really

When I first joined I had the name Kora, for the simple fact that I liked the name, especially spelt with a K. Then when I changed it I didnt want it too far removed because I didnt want to make it difficult on people so I removed the -a and added -en instead. Hence Koren. Hahaha

Its amazing, I put such incredible amounts of thought into my characters name and yet practically none went into my screen name

Jag

Mine came from my screen name at Gaia Online, which I came here to escape. I got it for my Gaia name because it was the name of my then favorite song by Psycho le Cemu. I've been considering shortening it to just 'Michi' since that is what most people know me by and it confuses me when a new person calls me 'Sora'. Not much thought went into it, honestly...but at least I can link pretty pictures from the music video to it:

Sasquatch421

Sasquatch421: Well I like having my hair long, so my family started teasing me about being a domesticated sasquatch and I picked up the nickname and ran with it. The 421 is the number of the Strormtrooper in Star Wars Episode 4 A New Hope. I just changed the TK to my nickname and bam....

The other user name I used to use a lot was Lestat69_99... Well you can probably guess my favorite Anne Rice character from it. The 69 was well I'm sure you can guess that as well, and the 99 is when I had first started using it...

Observing Trifles

I chose the name when I was in a rush to create a profile on another roleplaying forum. I had no idea what name to use, because I hadn't created a new one in a long time, so I snatched the title of a song I had recently downloaded. Brilliant Days. by DaizyStripper.

Callie Del Noire

Callie Del Noire.. it's a character stuck in my head that won't go away. :D

I got a few alias like that. Kyriee (aka Kyrie) Ebonblade (On wow, in DND and else where), Rhea Twiceborn, Kyle Phillips (my d20 Modern character), Ryland Ro (EVE Online/Star Wars), and so on.

Chris Brady

This is my real name, I don't feel like hiding behind a nickname on this site.
My O&Os Peruse at your doom.

So I make a A&A thread but do I put it here?  No.  Of course not.

Also, I now come with Kung-Fu Blog action.  Here:  Where I talk about comics and all sorts of gaming

Beorning

My screen name is from Tolkien. Also, in a very conceptual way that only my mind can probably see, it's related to the place I live in :)

ElusiveM00se

This is my second internet handle. I have another one that I use quite often that has been identifiable to me since the late 90's. I've been using this one for only 2-3 years, in places that I didn't feel like carrying over my other more "public" handle.

The story of my screen name comes from the fact that for many, many years, I've had an obsession with moose. I think they're cute, and I have a whole bunch of silly moose trinkets and figures. (Dragons are still my spirit animal of choice). Yet neither my mother nor I have ever actually seen a real live moose in person. Therefore - elusive moose. I wanted to make it more "internet-friendly" so I use zero's for the "o"s in moose.

And so ElusiveM00se was born.

BlightRaptor

Mine was the result of my brother and I shooting back random hypothetical Mega Man X boss names, which typically are "Power + Animal = Boss" with some exceptions. For example Gravity Beetle was a robot beetle that could create black holes. I threw out Blight Raptor, a black and purple velociraptor that had the ability to decompose any material.

I started using this name for various RPGs, keeping the reptile theme in tact when possible. For instance, I created a Skyrim character who I referred to as "Blight: The Argonian Inquisition." Eventually this became my unofficial alias on the internet as well as my unofficial fursona (or in this case a big black and purple scaley.) And so here I am!

Moraline

I was playing World of Warcraft at the time and this was the name of my primary character in game so I just used it.

Now... the reason I choose the name in the first place was because it was a friend's name when I was young. I always thought her name was pretty and just decided to use it. I think it was originally an old name from her family (It was like Irish or something.)  I've never been able to find an actual history of the name online.

Silverfyre

"Silverfyre" was the last name of my first D&D character and I liked the name, as well as the nostalgia attached to it, that I decided to use it online.  I have used it extensively for the last seventeen years or so, on a variety of roleplaying and social sites.  I have a handful of other gaming related tags I use but the Silverfyre one tends to be my primary one.

Silver

...Because I hate all things Gold...

No but seriously, the name Silver for me is a nickname that I also have in RL. I am a lover of all things silver and gray; also a firm believer in the Symbolism related to the word.

QuotePrime symbolism of silver deals with the moon and as such it is an attribute of feminine energy.

Chaldeans referenced silver by the female name of Nanna.

Rosicrucian alchemists attributed silver to the goddesses Artemis (Greek).

Renaissance alchemists divined with silver using Diana’s (Roman) personification.

Arabic alchemists invoked the feminine name of Manat when working with silver as an alchemical symbol.

Some quick symbolic meanings of silver:

Purity
Clarity
Awareness
Focus
Single-ness of Purpose
Femininity
Persistence
Vision
Strength

Silver is symbolic of such attributes as awareness, clarity, and vision because of its bright/clear appearance.

Silver is a symbol for strength because this metal withstands abuse, weathering, and even heat.  Nevertheless, it can still be molded into desired forms.

This is symbolic of a subtle strength.  The message here is that we ourselves can be flexible enough to be molded into something better – but strong enough to keep our core integrity in tact.

I believe that sums me up pretty well, doesn't it?

Well that explains a lot. Have you ALSO been taking some my clothes?! (I know Kat has!)

Ciosa

Ciosa is an NPC in 7th Sea - he's a Cardinal in the Vaticine church, a corollary for Catholicism.  The NPC is a political power in a burgeoning divide in the church - the Inquisition runs rampant, the Heirophant is dead and a new Cardinal's Council is necessary to convene and elect a new Heirophant.  Ciosa represents everything that's good about faith - the desire to heal, show compassion, protect, nurture...to be moved by a force greater than oneself to do good and show compassion.  Opposed to him s a man named Verdugo that wants to root out heretics and sinners and cast them to flame, and they're the two principal contenders for the seat of the Heirophant.

I liked the symbolism inherent in the character, and I always enjoyed playing him in games.  I've written a lot of stuff under it, and it's become something that follows me from boards to MMOs to ... everything.

Oddly, the nation he's in is supposed to be an analogue for Rome/Italy, and Ciosa sounds Italian but has never actually appeared in any Italian language thing I've looked up.

Also, it's never in use.  :D

Wolfling72

I have been a practicing pagan for nigh on 16 years. Wolf is my spirit guide, and so, there has always been a Wolf in any screen name I've chosen. (Trust me when I say you could find just about every place I've ever been if you were to look for Wolf and different versions of the word Moon).

That name has resonance for me and is a highly personal part of my belief system and the way that I see myself. I wouldn't be who and what I am anywhere, if I didn't have that particular word included as part of my self naming process.

Saerrael

Oh, this is going to take a bit.

I named a character in WoW 'Saerra' once, she was a fire mage. 'Saerra' is based on searing. When I signed up on Elliquiy, I couldn't really think of anything more fitting than a fire name like that. 'SaerraEL' however, would mean more along the lines of 'burning angel' (Burning One - Seraph). Somewhere around 1998 I started using all kinds of Angelic screennames for chatrooms. I can't recall exactly when and where the screenname 'Saerrael' was born, but I use it just about everywhere on the internet, now-a-days. I'm pretty certain, too, that I am the only Saerrael around. Though.. if you say that 'out loud' on the internet, it's quite tempting the Devil and thus I'm certain I won't be the only one pretty quickly after this post *coughs*

Naiah

The one I wanted was taken so I just used a name I had for one of my WoW characters :P

Thesunmaid

Well for mine it was actually a song by a band called Soul asylum and one of their songs was The sunmaid. I enjoyed the song and when i was depressed in high school which happened rather often this song sort of cheered me up. I have been using it as a screen name since then.

Smirks it has nothing to do with raisins
